Found iWeb images in trashcan???

I was about to empty my trash when I found "recovered files", and another that says "recovered files#1"
The one that says "recovered files" had images in it from my website...
Are they safe to delete without losing files and images on my website? Why would they come out of nowhere and appear in my trashcan?

I would think so. But to be on the safe side, move them to the Desktop, launch iWeb and check it out throughly. If not problems delete them.

  • Where did I found the images in Finder?

For a while ago, I found some images in Finder of, among others; iPad, iMac Unibody, some MacBooks, etc. Now, I can't remember where I found them. Does anyone have experienced the same, and can tell me where in Finder they are?

You may have found them in the Resources folder of the CoreTypes.bundle. Take a look here:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle
Then right click on the bundle and select "Show Package Contents" and continue burrowing down. There are lots of icns graphics files for apple hardware. They will open in Preview when double clicked and you can resave them as jpegs to use somewhere else.

  • IWeb Image Size

    Hello Apple Friends,
What's the easiest way to get iWeb images down to a reasonable size? The PNGs are just too big as they're created automatically. Is there a setting I can adjust somewhere? I hope I don't have to go in and manually shrink each image file with Photoshop of something.
    Thanks for your help,
    Steve

Well for your already published images, you might want to take a look at PNG Crusher: http://www.amake.us/software/pngcrusher/
You are supposed to use this directly on your published files, so just be aware of that.
Going forward with your new pages and what not, the best thing to do would be to minimize the opportunities for iWeb to convert your jpg images to png. You do this by avoiding resizing the image inside iWeb (either smaller or bigger) and avoiding the special effects like drop shadows, rotation, reflections, frames, etc. At the very least, use iPhoto to size your photos down from their original full resolution size. Know that standard iWeb pages are only 700px wide, so that is as big as you need. For slideshows, iWeb would size everything to 800x600, so keep that in mind.

my iWeb image names are incompatible with FTP servers and must be renamed but I can't find the images in iWeb. I can upload to a desktop file and change them there but then I would need to download them to a new site in iWeb to publish them.
    What's the answer?
    Thanks

Many thanks to  responded to my question and sorry not to get back sooner.
Yes, I discovered by this unfortunate experience that the names of photos are a serious issue if the site is to ever go to an FTP server.  Apple should discuss this carefully in their "manual".
One more question:  I uploaded the website to a folder on my desktop. When I open it, unlike the photos in iWeb, there are folders for each page which have all the photos in them. I went through each folder and changed the names to be FTP compatible. I'm using iWeb SEO Tool which allows one to upload from this local folder to an FTP server but having trouble.
Is this because there is an imbedment in iWeb that uses the old photo names to link to the actual photos and it can't find them because of the name changes?
Thanks again for your help ...

  • IWeb images not showing on google image search

I've created an iWeb website but can't find any of my images on google image search, although the site appears on web search. I've created new sitemaps 4 days ago, tagged the images with iWeb SEO... I've made two separate pages of images only, not the photo album pages which I think are difficult to search / tag.
Does anyone know how long it takes Google image search to list your images. It already has listed my website on web / text search for sometime.

    Mia12 wrote:

Do sub-pages of your site appear? I'm wondering whether your images aren't being found because the sub-pages in which they reside are not being found...
One of the biggest problems with iWeb is the way it creates your navigation bars. Instead of using standard HTML which search engines can use to correctly find all files on your website, it uses Javascript which makes it extremely hard for search engines to scan and index your website properly.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
3 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • IWeb images and nav menu not displaying in IE

    Hi all,
I've just created my second IWeb page: http://web.mac.com/benbruder/iWeb/Ben%20and%20CC%27s%20Garden/Welcome.html
It displays fine on my MacBook Pro, and loads fine on a PC, but when the page finishes loading, the images and navigation menu both disappear.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks much,
    Ben

Just figured it out from reading the other posts--having an apostrophe in the title killed the page. When I took the apostrophe out, everything worked.

  • IWeb Images and Assets Switched Around After Publishing to MobileMe

    Hello,
A few days ago a podcast I am hosting started acting odd. If I add a new graphic element to the site, ALL graphic elements get moved around, stretched, rotated, etc.
This DOESN'T happen when I publish to a folder.
I managed to do some workarounds so that the site looks "useable" but all of my borders and colors are moved around. After digging through, I managed to find what goes wrong.
Here is a screenshot of the homepage published to disk: http://imgur.com/p35EZ.png
and here it is published to mobileme: http://web.me.com/ksnowsb108/PhuketSpring_Podcasts/Main_Page/MainPage.html
You can see its not so bad because I tweaked it a lot, but if I so much as add anything, ALL of the photos get rotated around, I get a red arrow instead of the top left building photo, etc.
As I said earlier, I found the problem, but I can't fix it yet. For some reason, when publishing to mobileme the "shapeimage_#.png" files get out of sync. Here is what I mean: http://imgur.com/xcCpP.png
As you can see, shapeimage_7.png corresponds to a red arrow when published to disk, however it shows up as the blue arrow in mobileme. So right now it's not fatal, but one more shift and then the yellow text box will appear instead of the arrow, etc.
Please please please tell me you have a solution! This podcast gets around 5,000 hits daily and it's embarrassing! I know I should not use iWeb for these things but it was a dire emergency.
I have tried going into Sites folder and deleting/reuploading, deleting cache, and preferences. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    Thank you very, very much!

It CAN be site destroying. The only way I've found to fix it myself is to delete and recreate the page. But that is time consuming and if you do that, you have to then remember to clear your cache or you REALLY get a jumbled mess. But doesn't that then mean that visitors to your site get the same jumble unless they too remember or know how to clear their own cache? Even that doesn't fix the original problem though. And yes, it sounds like we are experiencing the same thing. Seems like others should be as well... do you update the site a lot too? Maybe people don't update as much as we do and don't see it...? Very frustrating and I hope they find an answer...

  • IWeb image source... a link?

Is it possible on my iWeb-constructed webpage to have an image whose source is remotely linked (rather than a simple file on the local or .Mac server)? Note: I'm not refering to a hyperlink. For example, on my webpage I'd like to include the latest image from a webcam that appears on my school's website... I can make it work by manually writing in code (below) in the .html file that iWeb generates, but each time I edit my page I have to manually rewrite the code again. Can't iWeb support these kinds of "dynamic" images?? Thanks in advance!
Example code (minus the < and />): img src="http://www.atmos.colostate.edu/webcam/latest.jpg"

How do you know it's not a background image? That's how I
    would do it.

  • REPOST:Source not found for image

I am generating the source for af:image on runtime. Sometimes when a source path is generated at runtime there is no such image at that source path. So in that case shortDesc field of that image is showed instead. Is there a way to catch the exception (if thrown any) in case the image is not found on specified source, a default image can be shown instead.

maybe this is just because there is no source code for the JCO Classes. I don't think SAP ships JCO Classes with source Infos for debugging.
In debugging i would suggest just not to step into the JCO Methods.

  • Iweb images disappear and show only 2 words: Comments Widget

    would anyone please help

    Thank you!

the website I pulished seems working well in safari and firefox

  • IWeb image files

I've been using iWeb heavily for two sites that I maintain. The one thing that always irked me is that the program, when you add the same image to multiple pages, instead of pointing to one single file copies multiple versions of the same image file to each pages image folder.
Can anyone with iWork '08 check to see if this is still the same setup or has Apple actually corrected this behavior. It happens with other file types as well but in my sites it's most prevalent with images.
    Thanks in advance.
Here are the sites for those interested:
    http://www.sonsofben.net
    http://www.umsconline.org

I'm not sure if this is still true in iWeb '08, but in order for images to be rendered to a common Images folder, the image has to be placed on the site with no effects that would cause the image to have to be re-rendered.
For example, the background on my pages
    http://web.mac.com/makentosh/iWeb/tipsfromtheiceberg/Images/background.jpg
Are all pulled from the same location because this is a .jpg and no effects were added to it. As a result, my pages render a little faster since this background doesn't have to be pulled for each individual page.
    Another example is here.
    http://web.mac.com/makentosh/iWeb/tipsfromtheiceberg/visual_archive.html
All of the little tags to the lower right used to be shapes I altered in iWeb and then shrunk. iWeb was forced to render all of these to .png's because shapes MUST be rendered before displaying on the web page. By turning those tags into images that I just dropped on the page, you can see
    http://web.mac.com/makentosh/iWeb/tipsfromtheiceberg/Images/qtag.png
That instead of having qtag-1.png, qtag-2.png, etc. I've got one image that's referenced for each instance it appears on the page. That made this page load faster as well.

  • IWeb images files on computer

I want to use some of the images files from the iWeb program with other programs. For example, on iWeb, I like the background for one of the website templates. I want to use it for my publishing program to create a fyler. Are these files somewhere on my computer? And if so, where?

If you use the images in a published webpage, then the images are in the Sites folder on the server on in the folder when you publish to a folder.
All the other images are in the iWeb.app.
To access these image select iWeb in the Applications folder and do right-click.
From the menu, choose Show package content.
Navigate to the Themes folder and do right-click on any theme. Choose again Show package content.

  • IWeb-image transitions

    hello,
i am new to iWeb and am interested in setting up a portfolio page where an array of images would transition into one another (fade in-out) by navigation of buttons.
for example, 5 images in middle of page and 5 buttons (1,2,3,4,5) at bottom of page.
this would allow for someone to go back-forth as they please as opposed to watch a movie loop over and over again.
    Is this possible?
    Any help is much appreciated,
    g

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't think you can do that in iWeb, at least not with the transition you'd like to do. However what you're describing sounds a little like the gallery portion of aniWeb photo page which has the photos on one page, a gallery option (by clicking on one of the photos on the first page) where the photos are in a thumbnail tray at the top and you can peruse them with forward and back arrows or view them as a slideshow. But no fade in/out transition. At least not by default.
A web gallery created by iPhoto has something akin to what you'd like but again, not the transition you'd like.
You could create separate pages for each of the 5 photos with the photo centered in the middle of the page and your own navbar at the bottom. That would send the user to each photo but no transition.
There may be a 3rd party solution based on javascript out there and maybe one of those who are listed in the Top Users section of iWeb will be able to point you to a solution.

  • Iweb image hyperlinks not working across pages

I KNOW there are many other threads on this topic, but I can't figure it out!
I am using images as my website navigation and they have stopped working on some pages when I updated it (and won't work no matter how many times I replace them or send them forward/back and republish). I have read some other threads that say it may be hidden objects blocking the links or that the images are in the navigation layer, but I don't think that's the problem (correct me if I'm wrong). I've also disabled the navigation menu since the problem happened, but that was not the cause.
Here is my website home page (all the links are working on this page): http://melissabloom.com/mb/Home.html
but then on this page, for instance, none of them work: http://melissabloom.com/mb/Portfolio.html
To specify I am talking about the "home, about, contact, portfolio and reel" images/links. They are not working on the "portfolio" and "reel" pages and also, the four pages "portfolio" takes you to.
Let me know if you need more info. I appreciate any advice, thanks!

Ok, bear with me here, I need some clarification. How do I change the z index of those images and get them out of the nav layer WITHOUT changing their position on the page?
I see that they are in the header layer. I had gone into the layout section and changed the height of of the header layer to make it fit the links too. Assuming that was a bad idea? Should I make the header layer smaller, so it doesn't reach the links?
And WHERE is the nav layer? I don't understand how to pull objects out of it because I don't see it.
Thank you so much for your help!
