Found solution to Snow Leopard issues...

Got tired of Snow Leopard slowness/bugginess. Downgraded my Mac Mini to Leopard - whew! Movies work fine again in Front Row, and the system no longer freezes, and no more annoying like **** Quicktime X, which keeps popping up when opening movies, even after changing the application to open them to Quicktime 7...
Snow Leopard does seem a bit faster right after the system was rebooted, but as you use it more - it becomes slower and slower. With Leopard it's not happening.
Seems like "It just works" slowly, but surely, turns into "It just doesn't" with every new iteration of a big cat...

Mine is as fast as it ever was at installation. Not sure why you see a problem.
As a matter of fact, this is the best OS I've ever used.

  • Illustrator CS4 in Snow Leopard Issues

I have a logo file that I created in Illustrator CS4 on an iMac running Snow Leopard and it does not display some of the text layers when saving for the web or saving as an Illustrator CS3 file or copying and pasting into Photoshop CS4. Basically the text layers are just standard text using Adobe Garamond Pro (Italic and Regular) fonts and white text on a black background. In the original file both text lines look fine but when I try to save using one of the other methods above I no longer see the 2nd text line. So, in effect I can't create the JPEG or GIF that I need from this logo. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Steve

Maybe not a cs4/snow leopard issue but an overprinting issue?
Is the white text that goes away set to overprint?

  • Logic 8 and possible Snow Leopard Issue

Ok folks, this is my first post/problem on the apple discussion boards....here it goes. Hopefully someone can tell me what my problem:
Specs: MacBook Pro 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM: Operating on Snow Leopard.
Logic Pro 8.0.2; Lexicon Omega USB as the core audio.
Problem: First of all, I work primarily with MIDI and some vocal audio. Ever since I installed snow leopard on my computer Logic has been giving me a lot of problems. My CPU can't even handle one VST plugin with a couple effects on it now. Sometimes even just playing an instrument, one of the ram sticks will spike and either crash logic or say it's overloaded and cut out the audio. This happens either with a single instrument, or with a sequence I created, it can't play the loop back all the way through without saying "core audio overload". I primarily use Komplete 5 software instruments by Native Instruments, and I know these eat up CPU but it was never like this before I installed Snow Leopard. I tried dumbing down the I/O buffer size, and process buffer range, but none of these seem to make a difference. Why is it only one CPU bar that spikes? I'm not running anything else on the computer at the time. Is 2GB of ram not enough anymore?
One more issue that might help someone troubleshoot this...actually playing the instruments isn't as much of an obstacle as playback. Also, any session that I've made under the old operation system, if I try and open it up and play it, it either overloads IMMEDIATELY or the actual software instruments don't play, and the only way to make them play is to rewire them by taking them off and putting them back on again.
I can usually troubleshoot these things myself but for some reason I'm scared that it's a RAM issue and that I will need to buy a new computer to continue my producing. Because 2 is as high as this macbook goes, right? I hope it's just a USB thing and I need to upgrade my interface or switch to firewire.
Can anyone offer some advice or a solution to this problem?
    Thanks,
    J

    wow, thanks guys.

  • Snow Leopard issues with Word for Mac 2004?

Are there any compatibility issues? Since I installed the Leopard, I've had to uninstall and reinstall Word Office for Mac twice.

  • Upgrade MacBook 2,1 to Snow Leopard issues

    hello folks
over the holidays i took on the task of upgrading my 91-year-old fearless mom's aging MacBook (running Tiger OS X 10.4.11) so that she can use FaceTime to chat with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. since Snow Leopard is the farthest she can go without hacking (though Lion seems possible) i ordered a Snow Leopard Install DVD from Apple and 4 gig of RAM and an SSD drive from Other World Computing. the SSD was a 120 GB OWC Mercury Electra 3g SATA II - recommended by OWC for this particular MacBook model. i ordered their upgrade bundle, which came with an external USB enclosure for the old drive. installation of the memory and HD was a snap. to cover any possible gotchas i also ran a clone of her old HD using SuperDuper prior to doing the HD upgrade. once everything was in place i booted up to the clone and formatted and restored her data to the SSD. booted to the internal SSD and had a very peppy MacBook. phase two is where things got very strange: when i booted to the OS X 10.6.3 Install DVD and started the process of installing Snow Leopard i found that the SSD drive was not being found by Disk Utility - i could see the CD drive and my external HD with her clone, but no SSD. since there is no way to quit the installer (that i could find) i forced a shutdown and did some research. the SSD is formatted as GUID and extended (journalled), S.M.A.R.T status ok. i'm leery of pulling the SSD out and attempting to install SL on an external drive, due to the age of the machine and my own thumb-fingeredness. any suggestions would be welcomed. i have to head back home tomorrow, so likely i won't be able to finish this till our next visit, but i'd love to figure this out.
    cheers
    bruce

If it was a Core Duo this could be the problem:
    http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MC573Z/A/i-have-a-macbook-2-g hz-intel-core-2-duo-running-104-if-i-buy…
". Be careful when you upgrade from 10.4. The 10.4 hard drive is probably formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Snow Leopard requires the hard drive to be formatted as a GUID. A Mac OS Extended drive will have to be wiped/reformatted/partitioned to get to GUID."

  • Any solutions to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 R2880 total failure on iMac

Everything was fine on Snow Leopard 10.6, but now - on 10.6.1 - I can print nothing to the Epson R2880 from my main desktop machine. When I went to print, the Epson Printer software had been removed and I had a message that new printer drivers should be downloaded from the manufacturer.
Having done this, I had various error messages culminating in the one shown below.
Hours of searching the forums, and telephone help from first Epson then Apple, have not solved the issue. in spite of removing the printer, uninstalling Epson software, drivers and library folders, reinstalling current drivers, making sure Rosetta is loaded et cetera.
Strangely, the printer works OK from my laptop, which is running 10.6.1 and identical Epson drivers.
The problem is caused it seems by rastertoescp in /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Filter/rastertoescp.app/Contents/MacOS/ra stertoescp
Epson blames Apple, and Apple tech support has tried all it knows or can think of. The case has been escalated, and I should hear back 'within the week'. In the meantime, can anyone help?
The error log file, which has gone to Apple, starts as follows:
    Process: rastertoescp [410]

    Please try the following:
    1.Uninstall Gutenprint.
You can download the uninstaller at the following URL:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/Uninstaller%20-%20Mac%20OS%20X% 20ONLY/1.2.6/gutenprint-uninstaller-1.2.6.dmg/download
Click on the file it downloads and uninstall Gutenprint.
    2. Power off the printer
    3. Remove the printer driver from Print and Fax
    4. Delete the Epson Folder from the following location
    Mac's Hard Drive\Library\Printers\Epson
    5. Delete the following files.
Mac's Hard Drive\User\Library\Preferences\ com.apple.printer ....plist (remove all of the print.plist you find.
    6. Restart your Mac
    7. Delete the Epson folder in HD/Library/Caches
    8. Delete the Epson…R2880.gz from the HD/Library/Printers/PPDs
    Hope this helps, Syd

  • Snow Leopard issues ... a few.

    Morning all!
I've had a few SL niggles since the upgrade, but when a carbon copy cloner backup failed last night I've started digging.
    1. Screen corruption, only happened once, had to force reboot. Whole screen was corrupt.
    2. Cannot open screen saver preference pane, crashes. Seeing this in the console:
    20/10/2009 06:47:22 [0x0-0x73073].com.apple.ScreenSaver.Engine[1144] Tue Oct 20 06:47:22 xxx.local ScreenSaverEngine[1144] <Error>: Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment
    3. Console is constantly writing this error:
    20/10/2009 08:54:50 [0x0-0xa30a3].com.apple.Console[2257] Tue Oct 20 08:54:50 xxx.local Console[2257] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: cglsCreateContext = 10015
Short of a fresh OS install are any of these common and easily solvable issues? I did a fresh SL install originally and then restored my user stuff from a backup but I'm thinking perhaps I should do another and re-install everything manually.
    Cheers,
    Adam

Why not just try a normal install of Snow Leopard? IOW, just put the disc in the optical drive, launch the install app, & let it run, without erasing anything beforehand. This allows the installer to move anything it knows to be incompatible with Snow Leopard to the "Incompatible Applications" folder & to do some minor adjustments to the user home folder items.
It may not solve all your problems but it gives you a good starting point to eliminate the rest of them. If problems persist, check your login items (System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items tab) for any suspicious items.

there is no automated way to do that. basically you need to copy everything you need by hand. see this post on where some important data is stored
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6185507
but before you go through all that trouble, make a new account and make sure that the problems that were bothering you are not present there. they might be system-wide in which case making a new account will not help.

  • Snow leopard issues with windows for Mac

I installed snow leopard on my Mac Bk and I-Mac, Mac Bk no issues. On my I-mac the excel and Power point icons on the dock base show question marks and those to programs a gone. Word still appears and works, any help

Icons in the Dock represent applications stored on your machine. They can be in various locations (User folders or external hard drives).
When they show as a question mark it means the Dock can no longer find the source application. To restore functionality you need to remove the question mark icon (click, hold and drag up) and drag the source app back into the Dock. An "alias" is created that "links" to the source app.

  • MAC Pro start up problems ( Maybe Snow leopard issue?)

I can't get to start my Mac Pro,
My mac started working slow and then I had a white screen, I went to apple Geniuis and the reinstaled Snow leopard. and then it work but with a diferent hard disc.
But after a few days it starts to go slow, and then uploading bar shows up at starup and takes long. After a day after the wheel starts turning at start up and my macpro won't work it keeps on wheeling. I tried to reboot with the disc but it won't reboot.
Now I put my old hard disc it works but slow. My hardrives are new and have plenty of space.
Any idea what it could be?
    THX.

What I always start off with:
    SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner
Disk Warrior or another disk maintenance tool
Then start resolving like any other issue: one at a time.
cables, printers, devices - unplug them all and add back after the problem goes away one at a time
    SMC Reset
    Safe Boot
    Apple Hardware Test
    Why do you think 10.6?
Does all your software and drivers meet SL?
Clean install vs update in place
Did you import old prefs data and files and applications?
You have the old X1900 with its problems?
Or you have 7300GT OEM also old, and failing.
Or you upgraded to a new video card (but then you wouldn't be using Tiger).
You might be runnning programs in the background or processes that are corrupt or not compatible?

  • Downgrading to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard Issues

Hey there. I recently have bought a MacBook Pro with lion already on it. I wanted to play old mac games on it so I heard you could downgrade to snow leopard if you have the disk to install it. Will it work even if the lion is already installed on the computer (latest version of macbook). Also, I try to do it, since I have the disks, and it restarts my computer but doesnt start...It's just a blank grey screen that doesnt do anything. Please Help. Thanks

I repeat, you can't use any system older than the system your Mac ships with.
You can only do that if your Mac shipped with SL or earlier.

  • Snow Leopard Issues Again

Ever since I have installed Snow Leopard my camera profile doesn't seem to be right. My pictures look awesome on the back of my D3 and also in "Photo Mechanic" which I'm told is just a jpg preview of the RAW file, but once I import them into Lightroom they look awful. I was told that the gamma point on Snow Leopard is 2.2 and the default for Leopard was 1.8. Would this affect the import preset to not work properly? Will new camera profiles come out now that Snow Leopard is on the scene? Just wondering. Thanks.
    Jim Shields

If you could be more specific about what changes you see, perhaps posting a screen shot or two, we might be able to nail this down better. In my own experience, upgrading to Snow Leopard didn't change anything.

  • Adobe CS3 and CS4 updater under Snow Leopard issues

Hey everyone -Ive been trying to research this and I have CS4 and CS3 (just photoshop installed) under snow leopard -(clean install) and when I launch the adobe updater on CS3 it just crashes-and on CS4 the updater runs but finds no updates and I know they are out there.
This is all I could find on Adobes Forumns
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2349031#2349031
They talk about changing the permissions of the admin group but you have to be careful or you will mess your machine up -I dont wanna do that.
Is anyone having this problem? Or can anyone help
    Matt

You might try creating another user account (testUser) and seeing if those installers will function properly there, under a clean account...

  • CS2 in Snow Leopard issue

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, but I am still using CS2.
In Illustrator, after converting text to outlines, when I try to save as an
EPS file, I get this warning...
"Only fonts with appropriate permission bits will be embedded"
    Any ideas?

Some fonts are restricted and you cannot embed them the other partyneeds to have a copy of that font as well.
But itf you outlined the font then it is just a warning.
I would not worry about it

Problem is it's running Snow Leopard (don't think Im ready to take the Lion plunge yet) and when I work on an existing CS5 file it constantly gives me  "can not complete the filter because of an unexpected error" message. It gives me that message when I'm try to group something, click off of something, select something...all the time! It's highly annoying.
