FrameMaker 8.0 Conversion to PDF

Missing information in PDF document from FrameMaker 8.0... Issue with both our 8.0 Acrobat Standard and Professional packages dropping various items such as headings, bullets, pictures and other content from FrameMaker 8.0 Have the latest updates as of current date and still have issues. Mainly on documents larger then 50 pages. Sometimes re-running several times eventually will get all the missing information to the document or taking smaller sections of a document. Have tried manual distilling and saving to PDF with same results. Any ideas to correct?

Two possible issues.
1. Delete the FNTCACHE.DAT file in your Windows\System32 folder and
re-boot. It will get re-built at start up.
2. In the Distiller (AdobePDF) printer instance, try setting the
Graphic > Print Quality: setting to a value of 600dpi or less (but no
less than 300dpi). This is found under the printer instance's
Preferences > Paper/Quality > Advanced Button, as well as under the
Properties > Advanced > Printing Defaults > Paper/Quality > Advanced
button. You need to set this in both locations.
Note: this setting affects the granularity of the placement of
objects, not their resolution, on the page. The default setting is
something like 4000dpi, and with larger paper sizes this causes
overflow or rounding errors.

  • CreatePDF to convert Framemaker binary (.fm) files to PDF

    A web search and the Adobe chat salesman says that CreatePDF can convert Framemaker binary files (.fm) to PDF and send the results back to me.  I'm told that this capability is not documented in the CreatePDF compatibility FAQ, but is provided.  My Framemaker was version 5.5, but is long since died (I'm on my 3rd or 4th Mac since Framemaker support on Macs went away).
    So I subscribed.  But the web interface refuses to upload a .fm file.
    How do a get this feature to work?

    Good day,
    FrameMaker files are not supported for conversion from within the CreatePDF interface.  To convert a FrameMaker file to PDF using CreatePDF, you would need to use the Print to PDF function.  This particular feature is Windows-only and requires that you be able to print from the native application to the virtual printer that communicates with our CreatePDF service.
    The best solution I can think of would be to coordinate with a colleague/friend/etc., who has a Windows computer (unless you're running a Windows VM on your Mac).  Download and install the FrameMaker 10 trial and convert your files to PDF using FrameMaker's export function.
    I don't think that CreatePDF is the solution for you in this particular case.
    Please let me know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,
    David

  • How can I perform the conversion of pdf files in Cyrillic script to Word files in Cyrillic script. The pdf file is too small for me to read right now. Julyan Watts

    How can I perform the conversion of .pdf files in Cyrillic script to Word files in Cyrillic script. The .pdf file is too small for me to read without a magnifying glass, and the document is more than one thousand pages.

    This answer was not helpful. First of all, I could not find "tech specs"
    anywhere on the Acrobat 11 homepage. And secondly I purchased this software
    for the specific purpose of converting .pdf files to Word. It was only
    after I had completed the purchase that I learnt that Acrobat does not
    permit the conversion of .pdf files in Cyrillic to Word files  in Cyrillic.
    I feel that Acrobat should have provided this crucial information before I
    allowed my credit card to be debited. That is why I  am now asking for my
    money back. But thanks for your attempt to solve my problem, even if it was
    not successful.

  • Batch Conversion of PDF to Postscript

    I've been trying write a script for Batch conversion of PDF to PS files, using "silent" printing. I'm apparently missing something, because acrobat keeps crashing after executing the script (and the .ps files are not being created). Its also still prompting me for a filename. Not really sure of the syntax for keeping the same filename? I'm new to java script, so I'm sure its something I have wrong. My code is below, if anyone can help me out. I'm using Acrobat 7.0.9
    this.print ({bUI: false,bSilent: true,bShrinktoFit: true,});
    var pp = this.getPrintParams();
    pp.interactive = pp.constants.interactionLevel.automatic;
    pp.printername = "Xerox Docuprint 92C NPS PS2 C1";
    pp.filename = "c:\temp\$filename$.ps";
    this.print(pp);
    Thanks

    Why are you calling the print method twice?
    Your syntax in the first call to print is in error. You have a comma after bShrinkToFit: true which is telling the JS interpreter to expect another argument.
    Use this for filename (not the capital N in filename ... use proper case for property names):
    pp.fileName = "/c/temp/" + this.documentFileName + ".ps";
    Also, when printing to PostScript you shouldn't specify a printer name. Use this (again, note the proper case for properties):
    pp.printerName = "";
    It says exactly this in the documentation for the fileName property of the PrintParams object. I suggest you read the documentation relating to the methods you're trying to use ... always a good place to find answers.
    > When printerName is an empty string and fileName is specified, the current document is saved as a PostScript file.
    Although it may not consider C:\temp a "safe path" (I can't remember off the top of my head). You'll want to read the documentation regarding JavaScript "safe paths". If it is still prompting you for a filename it is most likely ignoring your path due to security restrictions.

    I need a tool that can translate a FrameMaker 5.5 document to PDF. Which Audobe product can provide that?

    Thanks. I don't remember if Save as PDF worked as advertised in FrameMaker 5.5 -- I think it did not. Anyway, if Acrobat is not installed, it will be needed. So, if the poster has Acrobat installed with FrameMaker, then printing to PDF is all that is needed.

  • Download Conversion of PDF to JPEG...

    23 December 2012
    My Computer doesn't have a conversion from PDF to JPEG. How can I have it for free?
    Best wishes and God bless!
    Earl

    Hi Baby look,
    Please follow the instructions below to convert pdf to jpeg :
    Open the PDF document you want to convert in Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free PDF viewer.
    Click the "Snapshot" icon in the tools bar. The icon resembles a small camera. If the icon is not visible, right click the tool bar and select "Snapshot" from the bottom of the "More Tools" list.
      Move the Snapshot cursor, which is displayed as a small cross, to the beginning of the section in the PDF document you want to copy.
    Click and hold your mouse button. Drag the cursor to the end of the section you want to copy.
    Release the mouse button. The section you outlined is automatically copied to your clipboard as a JPEG image and highlighted in Adobe Reader to indicate the copy is complete.
    Open an image editing program such as IrfanView or MS Paint. Press "Ctrl+V" on your keyboard to paste the copied image.
    Press "Ctrl+S" to save the copied image as a JPEG file.

  • Number of free conversions to PDF allowed

    Hi, using acrobat.com free facilities for first time a screen tells me I am allowed five free conversions to PDF. Is that five per session, per day... or just 5 in total ever, as a trial? Thanks anyone! - Tony in Devon

    Hello Tony,
    Thanks for posting. A free account will allow you to convert 5 PDF files over the lifetime of your account; it is not a session or monthly quota. If you're considering an upgrade for your account, you may want to look at the pricing page, which delineates the features of subscription accounts:

    Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I will be happy to answer them for you!

  • Framemaker link to open a PDF doc (internet link) on spcific page?

    Hey guys,
    I have a Framemaker book (that will eventually be a PDF book) and I want a document file in the FM book to have a hyperlink to an EXTERNAL PDF, an internet address (http,) but I need the external PDF to open on a specific page, pg 24.
    I can get the hyperlink to open the external PDF, but I cannot get the pdf to open on pg 24.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    What version of Acrobat do you have? This feature worked in Acrobat 6 and it works in 8.1.2. (It wasn't fixed in 8.0, don't remember about the other 8.x point releases.) It does NOT work in Acrobat 7.x. You do not need the quotation marks. There is an Acrobat thread about using named destinations (better to use than page numbers, if in the future the page number for the content might change), but this thread also touches on the use of the page reference in the link. See http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc5423d/32 - it might help. Another thing I don't know about is whether Frame does anything to that link during the Frame-to-PDF conversion. (It shouldn't, but I can't check this right now.)
    So, if you are using Acrobat 7.x, you will need to upgrade. HTH, GMc

  • I have downloaded the converter program and the conversion from PDF to Word is terrible. Is there a better solution or setting?

    I am trying to convert a PDF to Word without re-typing.  I downloaded the converter program onto my MAC but the conversion was terrible.  Unusable.  Is there a better way.  I also have a PC so I could try that as well if would make any difference.

    "Scanned"  Scanned anything starts you with an image / picture of the page content that was on the source paper.
    There is no "renderable" text. OCR can provide an output of text that can be exported. Without that all that is exported is the image.
    As to OCR, Acrobat's ClearScan lends itself to repurpose via the export process.
    Regardless, anything sourced from a scanner output is the "pig's ear" and that'll not yield the "silk purse".
    Export is dictated by the input (GIGO). Export output identifies input quality.
    As a C Student stated a Word file (being well-built helps) that sourced the PDF will yield workable export back to Word.
    PDF's sourced for FrameMaker export rather nicely.
    For optimal export always start with a well-formed Tagged PDF (ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant).
    Two core design considerations of tagged PDF are (1) support Accessible PDF and (2) support export (repurpose) of PDF content.
    Be well...

  • Color conversion to PDF issues

    Hello, I am attempting to convert my document to PDF format. My company has STRICT rules on the colour of the logo. I saw in another post about RGB to CMYK settings and I have tried everything from setting them in Framemaker as CMYK, then changing the PDF Document Properties setting to leave colors unchanged, not to conver to RGB or CMYK, Using Postscript and Distilling, to no avail, the colour always comes out incorrect. Any suggestions? Thank You!
    Frame 7.1
    Acrobat 8
    Lisa

    Lisa,
    The solution suggested by VAN may work perfectly for you in regard to on-line viewing, but will most likely not work in print.
    The solution suggested by Sheila is more general and will also enable proper conversion for prepress PDF's. To do it you'll need to create a custom color map, that remap the RGB-color from Heading1 to the CMYK (or SPOT) color from the logo art.
    To create a custom color map in Grafikhuset Publi PDF you simply right-click the Publi PDF icon in the system tray, select the Attended Queue you want to use, and then turn on automatic creation of color maps in the Optimizer section of the pop-up menu. This will prompt you with an interface that allow you to create new spot colors -- next time you print to the queue.
    Clicking the "Convert to" field for each listed Gray, RGB, CMYK or other spot color allow you to remap colors exactly as your job require. When finished you can save the color map for later use. You may actually attach it to the queue, so you don't need to enter new information each time you print (If you attach it to the queue you should switch off the automatic color map creation, since its OFF state assure that the analysis phase is skipped and conversion is run directly without prompting).
    Note: due to a font-error with input fields in the color map editor you must have XP themes enabled, i.e. the classic Windows 2000 interface still works, but will display text and numbers as WingDings (fixed with a patch coming soon).
    Hope this helps.

  • Some CGM graphics do not appear when FrameMaker files are converted to PDF

    CGM files are exported from ISO (Arbortext Isodraw 7.0 CadProcess) files. Then they are imported into Adobe FrameMaker 7.2, where all elements of the illustration are visible and can be printed. The FrameMaker FM file is converted to a PDF file using the Adobe PDF converter function of Frame. When the PDF file is opened by Adobe Acrobat 8,0 Professional, some, but not all of the illustrations in the file exhibit this problem (The callouts and other text may appear, but the lines, curves, etc. do not). The illustration prints the same way it appears on the screen. When exporting the ISO file as a CGM, the following selections are made.
    When importing file into Frame, "Import by Reference" is selected.
    When creating PDF in Frame, the following selections are made.
    Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

    Thanks, Michael.

    First you should update to the latest version of Acrobat 8, since you say
    you are running Acrobat 8, you should update to 8.2.5. Update your
    FrameMaker to 7.2p158. Those two steps might do the trick. If that fails
    try using a different settings file. Perhaps High Quality or Press
    Quality. I would never use Standard for anything where fidelity is
    important.
