Freenx-0.7.3-3 completely breaks freenx server (solved)

Hi.
After happily running freenx for sometime (including installing various updates to it) the latest upgrade stops freenx working - freenx-0.7.3-3-i686.pkg.tar.gz
After going to back to the previous version - freenx-0.7.3-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz it is o.k again.
When trying to connect to the freenx server after the upgrade the client I get this message :-

um, again........
basically -Rcs openssh and freenx (for the 3rd time hehehe) do nothing... copy the key to client and voila......
funny how this happens nicely when a person gets a bettter understanding through studying......
Still interested in tips and that new version..... should be great!

How do you completely erase Apple Server as if it never existed? I keep having issues with my Apple server so I want to erase it as if it never existed. I have tried doing "sudo rm /var/db/.ServerSetupDone" but it still saves settings from before. I just want it to install as if it never has been set up before on my iMac.

When I connected to FREENX server, the client can see nothing

I choose UNIX-KDE in my client, but only find a black windows with 1024x768 when connected , and when I check the server, I found no KDE running.
On my client machine I edit the connection, select "custom" under the desktop section, and manually specify the command for starting kde. but that doesn't work eighter .

I checked this issue with 32 and 64 bit versions, as well as different desktops to connect to (KDE, Gnome, XFCE4). The problem is always the same, so I believe the actual version of freenx is just buggy. Please, whoever maintains freenx, have a look at it. The problem happens with any NX client. I used the new version 3 due to best logging. Again in short:
- Installation and nxsetup works well
- Authentification works
- Downloading session information works
- The clients last message is: "Established the display connection"
At this point Nomchines session administrator shows a running session, although no display is showing up. A little later the client terminates with a timeout and following log:

FF 22 completely breaks Flash

The new FF 22 dpi scaling breaks Flash programs (at least the ones that have "noScale" set in Flash).
The problem is that I have this in the HTML (generated by swfobject.js): <object data="main.swf" name="flashContent" id="flashContent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="576" width="1024"><param value="noscale" name="scale"><param value="t" name="salign">
When I trace the Flash program it says: "3.202: MainView: setup: stageW = 1280, stageH = 720"
FF has changed 1024 and 576 to 1280 and 720. The stage size is used by the flash program is used to place objects accordingly in the Flash program. Now, if the Flash program doesn't have appropriate, scalable assets, the layout in Flash program is totally messed up.
Flash has its own scaling mechanisms and this change is a real problem for the "noScale" mode because it is not passing the information correctly from the HTML to the Flash program.
I wouldn't mind if FF scaled the entire Flash window, but changing the parameters passed in not the right way to do it.

Vista SP2 x64 completely breaks DTS/DDL decoder

My X-Fi Elite Pro was running the DDL/DTS pack that I purchased just wonderfully until I updated Vista to SP2 x64. After the update, the encoder dissappeared completely from the console launcher. An attempt to re-install the pack throws a coded error message.
$6 license only bought me 3 months of use....money down the drain?
Are we going to get a fix for this soon or have to wait a good long while again for DTS/DDL support?
This does nothing but make me nauseous. Looks like a trip back to the future of SP................................................ ..............................................

After installing Vista sp2, on a system already running sp Vista64, I had to reinstall the Daniel K. driver pack. This fixed me up just fine. I believe the sp2 update may disturb the sound stack in Vista. A removal and reinstall of Dan K.'s Driver pack should fix the issue. I am running this:

Updating to 7.5 completely breaks iTunes

I was prompted to update my version of iTunes today, and like the good little user I went ahead and updated. Once that was complete, attempting to open iTunes resulted it showing up briefly in Task Manager, then vanishing again. It simply would not open.
I went through all the recommended steps to completely clean iTunes and Quicktime from my computer, reinstalled and finally iTunes would open. However, as soon as I attempted to copy music to my iPod, iTunes exited while copying and now refuses to open again.
Prior to this, iTunes worked just fine with my iPod, with none of the above problems. This has only been a problem since updating to the most recent version of iTunes.
Most troublesome is that my iPod has now allocated that memory to those songs, but they do not show up at all.
I am using iTunes on a Windows XP machine, with a 30 gig 5th generation iPod.

The new version of iTunes completely ruined my ability to play music as well. I actually can't even open iTunes anymore no matter what I do. A problem happened the last time Apple had a new "update" for iTunes. Whenever I opened it, I would receive an error message and even though I did everything Apple's "support page" said, nothing worked.
I am so tired of updates meant for the newer models of Apple's products ruining my computer. Whenever they have an update, they should at least state what product it is needed for instead of destroying the iTunes of their other customers. It's not fair that we get punished just because later versions of iPods.

Problems with connecting to FreeNX server

When I try to connect to the server a black window with the NX logo apears for 1sec and then it disapears with no errors. In the error file this shows:

Your only option is to contact the server administrator. Who
hosts your
server?
If you have an account with them, you should be able to login
to your
account and change your FTP settings however if they are
having problems
with servers, this might not be possible!
There isn't, as far as I know, any other way to connect.

I've researched fixes across the Discussions board and have tried everything from resetting and rebooting my router, resetting my network settings on my iPhone, selecting Auto in the HTTP proxy, selecting auto join, switching off cellular data...practically everything I can do. What are the next steps and when will Apple release and update to resolve this issue?

OS X Server.app 4 Completely Breaks PostgreSQL

There a new flavor of brokenness with Server.app 4's PostgreSQL -- it doesn't even exist as a serveradmin service!
Does anyone know how to tell serveradmin to start/stop PostgreSQL?
I've been able to migrate my old data and get a running PostgreSQL server with these commands:

Now the problem is that postgres launches don't persist over reboots, and that serveradmin doesn't control postgres. The commands

both return the same error because neither are serveradmin-managed services.

Someone's trying to break into server

Hello,
According to my directory service log, someone is trying to break into our server by trying to log in as 'root' and 'admin'. DirectoryServices senses this and delays the failed authentication return.
Okay, how do we backtrace this fellow's IP and where do I get a detailed log of this apparent hacker's attempts?

In my strongly felt opinion, using denyhosts is mostly a bandaid to a problem, rather than properly addressing it.
The one and only time I have used it was when I was battling a situation not entirely under my control. No need to go into those specifics, but it was indeed a bandaid to a situation in which I could not properly secure the server. That has since changed.
I can't state this with enough emphasis: the proper maintenance of server security should totally negate the need for DenyHosts.
1) Shut off ssh access ("remote login") completely if that is an option
1) Shut off root access via ssh entirely
Said quickly: edit /etc/sshd_config and change the section to appear as follows:
# Authentication:
PermitRootLogin no
AllowUsers myserveradmin
where "myserveradmin" is the shortname of a desired user, and should categorically not be "admin" "administrator" "test" or anything else painfully obvious.
Restart ssh.
Furthermore !
3) Shut off password access via ssh completely. Use access by ssh keys only.

Having done this, edit /etc/sshd_config and add:
# To disable tunneled clear text passwords, change to no here!
PasswordAuthentication no
PermitEmptyPasswords no
and restart ssh.
4) Set the shell ("login shell") for every and any account that does not need shell access to your server, to: None
5) Limit ssh access at your firewall, to known-viable IP ranges or even specific static IPs.
Better yet, (while still observing the other steps above) don't allow ssh traffic across your firewall, and setup VPN, and then use ssh access via VPN only.
Do all of this at your own "risk" meaning understand the consequences, the first of which will be a server that is more secure in terms of ssh access. This does little to prevent problematic php (phpBB) or other mismanaged or poor 3rd-party packages and their impact on your server.

I try to go to certain websites that I've had no problem going to before, and suddenly, it says, "Page cannot complete because the server is loading in such a way that it will never complete." I've tried erasing my cookies, and it still persists. Help!

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.sqlite-journal and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

I am getting this message when I try to register my downloaded Java 1.7 SDK. When completing the download originally, the registration process was aborted while I was reobtaining my username and resetting my password. Now when I go into C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_10 and click on register.html, I get a page with the following:

This usually caused by a customised hosts file.
These need to be the only entries in your /etc/hosts file:-
# Host Database
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface

fe80::1%lo0     localhost
Remove anything below these entries, then try and reconnect with GC. Once GC starts properly you can put the extra entries back in your hosts file, GC should start normally afterwards.

HT4759 Completing Exchange info; Server, Domain, and Username?

When setting up my several different email addresses with my new Toshiba Laptop, I was asked to fill out an Exchange form that included filling in my email addresses, plus a Server, a Domain, and a Usersname, and finally my password. I was okay with the email addresses and the password, but did not know what to put in for my Server and Domain info, or the Username, but it may now be my new Username that we just completed, MarkScharer, for my Apple ID.
Can you please help me with this information so I can start using my new laptop!? Plus I need to know if this information is going to be different for each email address or the same? I have (3) "gmail.com" addresses, (1) "icloud.com" address, and (1) "me.com" address, and did not know if the Server, Domain and Username information would be the same for each of these or not.

Has your employer enabled ActiveSync support on the Exchange Server?
If so, all that should be required is entering your email address, user name (domain\User) and your account password in the required fields when creating the account using the Exchange Account preset.

EM Plug-In for Peoplesoft 8.50 Breaking Application Server When Discovering

During the Discover process, even though, the Application Server, web Server, and schedulers are down; the Plug-In for EM PeopleSoft breaks the PeopleSoft environment. We have to rebuild the Applications Server and Scheduler to get this to work. There is a value the must reside in the ubx file and that was changed, but the discovery always breaks the environments..
My question is this: If we have to stop and start the PeopleSoft Architecture through EM, no problem. We just need to be able to explain why the environments keep breaking and we have to keep rebuilding the domains.
8.50.08, Windows 2003, Oracle 64-bit, 11.1.0.7 (Everything is on Windows).
Any insight will be helpful to our situation.

I experienced similar thing. The EM plugin for PS break the PS env down. I did not take time yet to investigate, and so far did not use it at all.
