Frequent finder crashes after installing Quicktime & iTunes update

Hi,
After installing the updates, I get frequent (~90 seconds) finder crashes.
System: 867 Powerbook, 1gb, 80gb
Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

  • PC completely crashed after installing latest iTunes update-coincidence?

I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes upgrade yesterday. After doing so it asked me to restart my PC which I did. However, my PC would not then start, I get a black screen with the message:- "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt - \windows\system32\config\system "
I have tried rebooting from the "last known good configuration" in "safe mode" and have also tried restoring the system with the cdrom that came with the PC.
Is this problem connected to the iTunes download or is it just a coincidence that my PC has crashed immediately after this?? It seems very starnge as I have never had any problems like this before. I am now using my work laptop to post this message as my home PC seems to be completely kaput.
Has anyone any advice or has anyone suffered the same problem?

This error is often due to a corrupted registry. I am afraid I can not help you myself, but this Miscrosoft article seems to cover it:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
If you google: missing corrupt \windows\system32\config\system
you will find quite a few other hits about the problem.
PS I noticed that the Microsoft method does not aply if you have an OEM installed Windows:
+Warning Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM installations creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist previously. If you use the procedure that is described in this article, you may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the original registry hives.+

  • My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything!

My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S.  If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply.  If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

  • IPod wont sync to laptop after installing newer itunes update

I installed an itunes update and after restarting my computer it would not sync at all. Also when plugged into my computer it no longer showed up as "Jims iPod" but just "Apple iPod" under devices where i cannot edit it in anyway. I uninstalled iTunes and re-installed it then getting the message " iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because of a newer version of iTunes" i did some tinkering (renamed itunes library as library.itl" and iTunes was able to open again however still couldnt sync. WHAT DO I DO? I have tried everything and its not appearing in iTunes at all.

    Try:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    or

  • Computer crashed after installing new itunes version

My laptop just crashed after installing the new 9.0.2 upgrade. Upon reboot I received a dos screen that said my computer shut down due to a recent download and asked if I wanted to reboot in safe mode or normal mode. I chose to reboot normally and the computer would not boot. Now my laptop won't power up at all. Is there anything I can do, or has itunes killed my laptop??

Please help me ! I don't understand why I had to restore to factory settings and then when I tried to re-sync  it kept telling me iTunes is not working. Why ??

  • My itunes keeps crashing after installing the lastest update

I have just installed the latest itunes update 10.6 and now my itunes keeps crashing. It opens and then when I try to scroll down or access my pod-casts it crashes and quits. I have tried restarting the machine and that has not helped. Really bad show to Apple for this. Any ideas.

You may want to try deleting the iTunes preference file (/Users/your home folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist). I was having a similar problem, everytime I tried to veiw TV Shows iTunes would crash, and doing this appears to have fixed my problem.

  • Premiere CS4 crashes after installing Quicktime 7

I reinstalled the CS4 package after having some unexplainable problems, one of which was Quicktime crashes.
I did the clean install, with the Microsoft cleanup utility and all that.
    It ran just fine.
Then I did the 4.2.1 update and everything was running great.
Then, I installed Quicktime directly from a freshly downloaded inst aller from Quicktime.com
After this, as soon as I open a Premiere project, even a new, empty project, it crashes immediately.

Now that everything is working, You should buy software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... which makes restoring very easy
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

  • Finder crashing after 10.4.8 update

I have been having the same problem that other users seem to be having after updating to 10.4.8. The Finder crashes every 3 minutes or so. I have tried pulling out the Contextual Menu items, deleting the com.apple.finder.plists in each account, logging in as different users, repairing disk permissions, reinstalling the Combo Updater for 10.4.8 and nothing helped. I still get the same result - finder reloads. The crash log reads "EXCBADACCESS". Please help.

  • Unexpected crash after installing XP security update

    I use K8T-Neo (FIS2R), with ATI 9800-Pro video card, Athlon-64.
Sytstem works fine until I install Win-XP updates. After installing some updates. I tought it is related to SP-2 as it crashed my system already twice. Recantly, having SP-1 only, I installed some MS security updates and it crashed again. The effect is that after displaying initial Win-XP logo it keeps rebooting. I had GoBack installed, as well as some other utils (RegRun) but none of those seem to be good enough to bring the system to the previous state. First time it had happened I had the most recent drivers from MSI and ATI as well installed (+ latest BIOS ver.)
I haven't done any overclocking, it is just standard plain configuration, however I hasve 2 SATA drives installed running RAID-0, and PSU is 500W. The bottom line is that system starts malfunctioning after installing XP updates, tough I don't know yet which particular downloaded file or driver causes crash.
I believe there is a problem either in MSI or ATI drivers.
I'm wondering if anybody had solve this type of problem ??

    Sounds new to me.
Did i get i right u changed nothing to the HW config ?
Try and repair the XP installation using the install CD (boot from it and choose repair).
How does it crash ? BSOD, freezes or restarts ?
BSOD's can be driver related, the others are HW related .

  • IWork09 crashes after installing 9.2 update for ML

    Hi guys,
Since one week now my iWork09 is crashing when I try to launch it. I get an Error " check whether your version of iWork is compatible with this OS"
Here are the steps which led to this:
    -  keynote, pages and numbers' are in the  iwork09 folder in the Application folder
    - recently I upgraded to ML by doing a complete erase and install of ML on my 17"MacBook pro (2008/09) running Lion.
    - I have made a new user/admin account with ML (had diff user acc for Lion)
    - Restored  iWork09 folder from time machine backup.
    - tried to install 9.2 update for iWork's, but software update couldn't detect it.
    - Downloaded 9.2update manually...installed it(don't know where?)
Tried launching keynote, pages and numbers and got the error.
To find a fix for this I checked the forum at apple and other sites on the internet and here is what I have tried so far:
1- As I couldn't update iWork's 09 thru software update. I erased iWorks09 folder from the application folder, other iWork09 content from application support folder-rebooted. Checked/deleted again for any remaining .plist files.
2- Again restored iworks09 from time machine.
3- ran disk utility for repair permission and rebooted.
4- launched App Store and ran software update. Luckily! App store showed the iWork's09, 9.2 update
    - downloaded the update, restarted my Mac and when i double click on keynote, pages or numbers, I get the SAME error about check the compatibility??
I have done the uninstall/re-install 2 times so far and still can't launch iWork. I don't understand where am I going wrong or how to FIX this.
I would appreciate if any of you guys can help.
(I do not have the iWork install disk with me,  AND iWork 09 works fine without any problem with CC 10.7.8 Lion backup)
    Thank you.

I think, you are right. But the problem is my iWork installer disk is left back
In Switzerland and i am in India right now. I don't think i can get hold of it anytime soon.
Is there any other option to fix this?
Does this mean, I will have to buy iWork's again from the
App Store? But, i am just qurious to know,  how did so many other guys..who had previously bought
iWork's disk manage  to install it on ML? I mean does everybody has the iWork's disk
    With them?
I have read in the forum here, many guys did uninstall/re-install and
got it fixed? I mean, how can someone keep track of install disk which
was bought way back in 2003/4 maybe? (Not sure)
Anyways, thanks Gary.  I appreciate it.

  • Finder Crashing AFTER installing Stuffit Deluxe 11.0.2

There appears to be a bug in the version of the contextual menu plug-in that was installed with Stuffit Deluxe 11.0.2

  • Safari & Software Update crash after installing latest Security Update

I recently loaded Security Update 2008-007 and now Safari crashes on trying to open. I've also found Software Update crashes. Trying to reload Safari and the downlaoad crashes. I'm running 10.5.5 on my G4 12" Powerbook. Any suggestions, before I permanently turn to Firefox? Which of course won't help with Security update

I found that reinstalling the system and not opting to install the security update stop the crashing let's hope the next security update doesn't do the same thing
