FRM-40831: Value too long for field ROWID.

Hi,
I'm a newbie in forms and I've a problem when working with index organized tables, it post me this error:
FRM-40831: Truncation occurred : Value too long for field ROWID.
How can I solve this problem?

This is a bug in Forms 9i (bug 2408210). The workaround is to:
- change block property Key Mode to Updatable or Non-Updatable
- set item property Promary Key to Yes for all items that correspond to an index column in the index-organized table

Unable to evaluate workflow rule - Value too long for field

Need help with a workflow error for a record update before the record is saved. There are 3 calculations that would be done in a particular order - all on number fields. Each time, I am overwriting existing values. The individual numbers could have up to 6 decimal spaces. When I try to update one or more fields that contain the calculation, I get an error message saying that the system is unable to evaluate the workflow rule - value too long for field (zNum6).
This same calculation is fine when a new record is entered and the calculation is done as a default field value.
Any ideas?

I actually had to use a ToChar function at the beginning of the calculation and #### to indicate the number of digits to make this work. Oracle Help Desk provided the answer - quickly.

I'm using Forms 5 and getting following error.
FRM-40831 : Truncation occured: value too long for filed MAST_EMP_NAME.
When i checked in the column Mast_emp_name, all the values are with in the limit.
Table contains some 9 lacs record.
Please help me. this is very urgent

check the maximum length - property of all those 5 columns in your form. They have to be as long as in the database. Except number. They have to be 1 char longer than in the db.
Forms-Online-Help says:
This property can potentially limit the amount of data that an item is allowed to contain internally (in the Forms server) when it's in native format. It can also potentially limit the number of character (or bytes) displayed or entered by the end user. That is, it can specify a data limit and/or a user interface (UI) limit. The exact effect depends upon several factors, including the item's Data type, Data Length Semantics, and Format Mask properties. For a character item (datatypes CHAR, ALPHA, LONG), the Maximum Length property specifies a data limit. The property value specifies either the maximum number of bytes or else the maximum number of characters, depending upon the value of the Data Length Semantics property. Within a group of character mirror items, the Maximum Length property is always taken from the master mirror item. A compiler (generator) warning is issued if a non-zero non-default value is specified in a subordinate mirror item. If a character item has no format mask (the Format Mask property is null), then the Maximum Length property (taken from the master mirror item) also specifies a UI limit. When the Forms server is using the UTF8 character set , this UI limit has the same semantics (byte versus character) as the data limit. If this application property is not set, the excess characters will be quietly truncated, and the navigation will succeed. For a number item (datatypes NUMBER, INT, MONEY, RNUMBER, RINT, RMONEY), the Maximum Length property specifies a user interface limit. This limit is always a character limit. There is no data limit. The data item can always internally hold up to 23 bytes (which is the maximum size of an Oracle number in native format), regardless of the value of the Maximum Length property. For a date or time item (datatypes DATETIME, DATE, TIME, JDATE, EDATE), the Maximum Length property specified in Forms Builder has almost no effect (See the Query Length property for a discussion of the only effect). As with "number" items, there is no data limit. For DATE and DATETIME items, the internal value is 7 bytes long, and for TIME, JDATE and EDATE items, the internal value is 4 bytes long . The user interface limit is derived from the format mask. This limit is always a character limit which is what is returned by GET_ITEM_PROPERTY(item, MAX_LENGTH).

Oracle 11g 64 bit - "Value too large for column" when setting Varchar2

Hello guys,
I have a machine running Oracle 11g - 64bits. And I have a table that contains a VARCHAR2(2000) field.
When I try to set the value of this field to a string that contains double byte characters, I get this error:
ORA-12899: value too large for column "QAPBG1220_11"."MYTABLE"."MYFIELD" (actual: 2433, maximum: 2000).
Although the value I'm setting is only 811 characters (€ sign).
The weird thing is that when I try to run the same query on another PC with Oracle 11g, 32 bits, It runs normally and the values are updated!!
Anyone has any idea about this? It's driving me crazy

On the 32 bit, this works fine. I get the record with the values 1 and 2000 euro signs.
On the 64 bits, there is one machine (oracle 11.2.0.1.0) that adds the row, but when I view it, the value shows as "????"
and another machine (oracle 11.1.0.7.0) that throws an error:
- "String Literal is too long" : if there are more than 1333 euro characters
- Value too large for column .... : if there are less than 1333 and more than 666 characters.
Any ideas?

Some versions (of Oracle 9i) insert a truncated string, newer versions (9.2.0.6.5) issue an error message and donât insert anything.

We are aware of a 2000-character limit on literal strings (might be a byte limit instead of character) but you could always use concatenation to build up a longer string 2000 at a time. But this is rejected if the field is nvarchar2 and wider than 1000 (characters).
Using a function, you can insert 2000 characters. For example, lpad(âXâ, 2000, âXâ) will go in. But this will not:
âXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXâ
||âXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXâ
. . . to >1000 characters.
If anyone knows anything about this, we would appreciate hearing from you.

we had this problem.
We talked to some oracle person who said some portlets on a page had trouble exporting.
Sure enough after we deleted all the portlets (one at a time to determine which one was giving us the problem. Turned out none of ours worked) the page exported and imported just fine.
Hopefully this is being worked on...

Inserted value too large for column error while scheduling a job

Hi Everyone,
I am trying to schedule a PL SQL script as a job in my Oracle 10g installed and running on Windows XP.
While trying to Submit the job I get the error as "Inserted value too large for column:" followed by my entire code. The code is correct - complies and runs in Oracle ApEx's SQL Workshop.
The size of my code is 4136 character, 4348 bytes and 107 lines long. It is a code that sends an e-mail and has a +utl_smtp.write_data([Lots of HTML])+
There is no insert statement in the code whatsoever, the code only queries the database for data...
Any idea as to why I might be getting this error??

I have Google'd client-error-request-value-too-long, and found it is a common CUPS issue on Linux. The popular solutions (having /var/spool/cups and /var/spool/cups/tmp) are already in place. Also, the temp files are nowhere near 2 GB (44MB).

The linux sysadmins set the cups max_request_size at 10 MB, which was causing this error. Once the restriction was lifted, the reports ran without error.

Being the OIM noob that I am, had no idea where to look.
We do indeed have some user defined fields of 4000 characters.
I am now wondering if I can disable auditing, or maybe increase the size of the auditing database column?
Also, I guess I should raise a defect in OIM as the User Interface should not allow the creation of a user field for which auditing is unable to cope.
I also wonder if the audit failures (other than causing lots of stack traces) causes any transaction failures due to transaction rollbacks?

Field is updating only through trigger with hard coded value.

I have a Proxy to File Scenario when I execute it I get this error in RWB. Can you please help me on this:

Hi,
if there is any empty tag coming from source then target structure tag will not be created and because of which ur payload structure and FCC configuration is not matching.
To use map with default between source and target strcture so in case source tag dont have value target structure will be created because of mapwithdegfault fuction and ur FCC will not fail.
Open SXMB_MONI output payload and compare the structre with Data type u will se for no source value target tag is not created at all and FCC is failed.

Error on reverse on XML: value too large for column

Hi All,
I am trying to reverse engineer while creating the data model on XML technology.
My JDBC URL on data server reads this:
jdbc:snps:xml?d=../demo/abc/CustomerPartyEBO.xsd&s=MYEBO
I get an error while doing the reverse.
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12899: value too large for column "PINW"."SNP_REV_KEY_COL"."KEY_NAME" (actual: 102, maximum: 100)
After doing some check through selective reverse, found that this is happening only for few tables, whose names are quite longer.
Tried setting the "maximum column name length" and "maximum table name length" to 120 and even higher values on XML technology from Topology Manager. No luck there.

That is not the place to change.
The error states that the SNP_REV_KEY_COL.KEY_NAME in the Work Repository schema PINW has maximum length defined to be 100.
I donot know if Oracle will support this change but you will have to make a change to the Work Repository table SNP_REV_KEY_COL and change the column lengths as a workaround.

I have a table (desc below), with only one trigger wich fill the operatcreat, operatmodif, datecreat and datemodif column at insert and update for each row. When I try to insert, I got the following messages :

My trigger is not the problem, I tried to delete it and fill the columns manually and got the same error.

I'm trying to add virtual column to my test table, but getting ORA-12899: value too large for column error. Below are the details.

Yes RP, it working if you give col2 size >=400.
@Northwest - Could you please test the same w/o having a regex clause in col2?
I doubt on the usage of a REGEX in this dynamic col case.
