From database 8i to database 10g

I have installed oracle10,but t did not know how to import datafile in database 8i to database 10g

Are you attempting to Upgrade an 8i database to 10g? If so the Upgrade Guide would be the place to start.
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/toc.htm
If you have an 8i export that you would like to import into a 10g database you can use Import.

  • Not able to create XML from an existing relational database

    Hi,
    I am trying to create and xml from an existing relational database. I am not able to get any XML data, I receive "XMLTYPE()" as the result.
    Here's the query -
    SQL> select o.order_id, XMLELEMENT("order", XMLATTRIBUTES(o.order_id as ID)) AS "result" from order_
    info o where order_id=2793;
    ORDER_ID
    result()
    +2793+
    XMLTYPE()
    I was expecting to get +<order id=2793 />+ instead of XMLTYPE().
    I am using -
    SQLPlus: Release 9.0.1.0.1*
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    I have also run some checks to confirm XML DB installation -
    SQL> select 1 from all_users where username  = 'XDB';
    +1+
    +1+
    SQL> desc RESOURCE_VIEW;
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    RES                                                SYS.XMLTYPE
    ANY_PATH                                           VARCHAR2(4000)
    RESID                                              RAW(16)
    I think, I have something wrong with installation or configuration.
    Any idea about what have I done wrong here?

    Works fine now. Got the result "<order ID="2793"></order>".
    Thanks. :-)

  • Import/insert data from XML into Oracle database tables?

    Hi. (I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and Oracle 10g)
    I have been able to export the data from one of my database tables by using a View Object and .writeXML.
    Now, I want to take an xml file that is formatted in the same way as what is spit out by the writeXML and put that info in my database table. I followed online examples and have tried using .readXML like so:
    Element element = XMLDoc.getDocumentElement();
    vo.readXML(element, -1);
    I know it is sort of working, because at first I got an error message that one of the required attributes was missing. So, I added that attribute to my xml file and ran my code. No errors. But, I checked my database, and the new records were not added.
    Is there something I have done wrong? Or is there perhaps something I left out? I also noticed there were several versions of readXML like readFromXML. Which one should I use and how?
    Thanks.

    KUBA, I changed my code to match your example:
    DocumentBuilder db = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder();
    File xmlFile = new File("C:/myfilehere.xml");
    Document doc = db.parse(xmlFile);
    Element element = doc.getDocumentElement();
    vo.readXML(element, -1);
    vo.getDBTransaction().commit();
    I still get no errors, but my database table has no new records.
    Any ideas why?
    Thanks.

  • Error while registering RMAN from primary to catalog database

    Hi all,
    Here we have a 10g dataguard environment with db1(db_unique_name) as primary and db2(db_unique_name) as physical standby database. Also we configured one schema on a third machine as catalog database using following steps.
    The steps executed in catalog database(appsdb):
    SQL> create tablespace rmancatlog_tbs datafile '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/NEW/rman_catalog.dbf' size 500M autoextend off extent management local segment space management auto;
    SQL> create user rman identified by oracle

    3 quota unlimited on rmancatlog_tbs
    4 ;
    SQL> GRANT connect, resource, recovery_catalog_owner TO rman;
    RMAN> create catalog;
    recovery catalog created
    Added tns entries of catalog database in primary and standby. Then from primary database we tried to register to catalog database. It is showing that it is registering. But every query afterwards in rman is throwing the error. Below are the steps and error:

  • Installation error message for Oracle Database software for version 10g

    Would someone be able to advise why I keep getting the following error message whilst installing Oracle trial Database software for version 10g Release 2 Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition? Link listed below : -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html
    Error message "Cannot create directory"C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_7\cfgtoollogs\dbca\projemp"
    Below is the 12 steps that I go through, please advise what I'm doing wrong : -
    1. (Operations) default is Create a database
    2. (Database templetes) default is general purpose
    3. (Database Identification) projemp.local for Global database name & projemp for SID
    4. (Management options) default is "Configure the database with Enterprise manager, also the options button has been clicked for "Use database control for database management"
    5. (Database Credentials) the options button has been clicked for "Use the same password for all accounts" so I've set up a new password, was that correct?
    6. (Storage options) the options button is clicked for "File System - use the file system for database storage.
    7. (Database file locations) the options button is clicked for "Use database file locations for template" Is this option correct? Other options are Use common location for all database files or use Oracle-managed files?
    8. (Recovery configuration) the options button is clicked for "Specify flash recovery area
    9. (Database content) nothing has been selected, the only option is "Sample schemas" should that be clicked?
    10. (Initialization parameters) the options button is clicked for "Typical- allocate memory as a % of the total physical memory
    11. (Database storage) no options available
    12. (Creation options) the options button has been selected for "Create Database"
    Click finish
    I then get a screen stating General purpose, click OK then I get the following error message as stated at the start of this e-mail ""Cannot create directory"C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_7\cfgtoollogs\dbca\projemp".

    I've gone through my courses instructions as listed above (1-12) and end up with the following error message"C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_7\cfgtoollogs\dbca\projemp".What course?

    I've removed the software from my computer using control panel, programs & features then uninstall once but the other five times the software hasn't been listed. Whilst the Oracle was on my task bar I was able to install using Start > Programs > Oracle - HOME-NAME > Database Administration > Database Configuration Assistant.No you didn't. Database Configuration Assistant does not remove software. It can remove a database. As I mentioned before, there is a difference between the software and the objects that software manages. Deleting an Excel spreadsheet is not the same as deleting Microsoft Office. Deleting an Oracle database with Database configuration assistant is not the same as removing the Oracle software.
    >
    Now that oracle is not on my task bar I've unzipped the link below, clicked on db, Disk1, setup, changed the Database password (is that correct?) install and I get the following error message "Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed<<<<<
    Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
    Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses;
    However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adaptor to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP."
    So what did you do with the above error message? Did you follow up on what it said? Did you read the very fine Installation Guide that comes with the software? Did you read the section on networking considerations where it discussed DHCP assigned addresses and installing the loopback adapter?
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html
    Ok, that link takes us to the download page, which does not shed any light at all on your problems
    I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit operating system, and my computer is saying I have 142 GB free space.
    If you read the installation manual that came with the downloaded software, you'd have seen in the prerequisites that Home editions of Windows are NOT listed as supported platforms, whereas Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions specifically ARE listed as supportd.
    Hope this is some help.And
    I'm not to clever on computers so would you be able to advise how I get to the command window to issue the SET command please?
    Also I've no idea what OS user I am, I'm taking an on-line Oracle course and been advised to install "Oracle Database software for version 10g Release 2 Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition"
    How do I find out if I'm part of an Administrator, ORA_DBA group ?
    Can you walk me through how to create the directory from command line please?Ok, given the above statements from you, I'm not even sure where to begin. I don't want to be cruel, but this self-admitted lack of even the most rudimentary knowledge by someone attempting to learn about Oracle is truly astounding. What course are you taking? Why are you taking this course?

    How do i filter on the report that is created by using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS in obiee 10g?

  • How to Connect to Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE

    I have installed Oracle 10g eXpress Edition and uninstalled Oracle 9i client database. I used Oracle 9i client to connect to another Database server on a local LAN. Is it possible to create a database link to the old Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE? If yes, do I need to add ODBC drivers?
    I want to achieve the following:

    Database links between Oracle databases do not require ODBC. They do require Oracle Networking (included with both Oracle9i Database and Oracle Database 10g XE) to be configured correctly.
    It is also possible to connect ot the 9i database using the 10g Instant Client (separate download)
    I want to achieve the following:

    Database tables on a LAN network.XE does not have an equivalent to Oracle Enterprise Manager. XE does come with HTMLdb preinstalled and configured, and HTMLdb provides a subset of the administration capabilities of Enterprise Manager.
    3) Create data access to Oracle 10g XE via some ODBC
    connection from a C++ runtime application.You can download ODBC drivers from the same location on OTN you downloaded XE. I do not know whether XE includes ODBC drivers. ODBC drivers will usually still require you to configure the Oracle Networking.
    There are a number of items that make me believe you do not have a good grasp of Oracle architecture and basics. Thanks

    Respected Sir
    These are the detailed steps that i performed on standby and primary database.
    On both the systems i install the oracle in E drive and the database i create in G drive and archive destination also in G drive.
    Like G:\prod1\(all the datafiles,logfiles and control file).
    G:\arch\(all the archive files).
    ON PRIMARY DATABASE(IP:192.168.2.14):
    1.First i create a database with DBCA and the database SID is prod1.
    2.Put the database in archive mode and also enable the force logging.
    3.Shutdown the Primary database and modify the following parameters in pfile.
    log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=G:\ARCH'
    log_archive_dest_2 = "service=STDBY mandatory reopen=60"
    log_archive_dest_state_1 = enable
    log_archive_dest_state_2 = enable
    log_archive_min_succeed_dest = 2
    4.Mount the primary database and create the standby controle file and create the spfile from the modified pfile.
    5.Shutdown the primary database and take the backup of all the datafile,logfile,standby controlfile ,passwordfile,pfile in a folder.
    6.Startup the primary database.
    Tnsname.ora Configuration.
    Create the connection string using the Net Manager with name STDBY and in host name i provide the IP address of the standby database.
    ON STANDBY DATABASE(IP 192.168.2.9):
    Listener.ora Configuration.
    Create a listener using the Net configuration Assistance.
    1.I copy the datafile,logfile and standby controle file in g:\prod1
    2.Copy the E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\prod1 folder from primary database and past it on the same location on the standby database.
    3.On standby pfile i change only the standby_archive_dest parameter to g:\arch.
    4.Create the service with oradim -SID -NEW prod1 -STARTMODE manuall
    5.Start the standby database in nomount mode.
    6.Create the spfile from pfile and shutdown the database.
    7.Startup the database in nomount mode using spfile.
    8.ALTER DATABASE MOUNT STANDBY DATABASE;
    These are the occurs when i use tnsping stdby on primary database.

    Ideally you would do the hashing of the password inside the client side application so only the Hashed value goes over the network, but the above demonstrates the principle of using hashes to store passwords.  Because it's a one way algorithm, only a brute force method can be used to try and determine the original password.  There is no way to directly un-hash the value.  To check for a valid login, we don't retrieve the password and try to unhash it to compare against what the user has supplied, we actually take what the user has supplied and hash that in the same way and then compare the hashes.
    The point of including the username or some other data in the hashing process means that if two users have the same password, they will still have different hash values, so it won't be apparent they are the same passwords.  In my example, the point of putting another character between the concatenation of username and password is in case the username and password together would give the same result e.g.
    If we had one user "Fred" with password "Fr3ddy" then just concatenating the strings would give "FredFr3ddy".
    If we had another user "FredF" and he happened to choose a password "r3ddy" then just concatenating those would also give "FredFr3ddy"
    by introducing a known breaking character they would be different e.g. "Fred!Fr3ddy" and "FredF!r3ddy" and hence give different hash values.
    That's the basics of how passwords are stored for security.
    It would take a lot of processing power and brute force methods just to determine a single password for a single user when using hashing methods of security.
    With encryption, a brute force method could be used to find the decryption key, and once found that could be used to decrypt ALL the encyrpted data, hence it is less secure, especially when some clever person will no doubt have written the key down somewhere so they don't forget it.  With hashing there's no key to write down.

  • Failover from standby database to primary database

    Hi,
    Can anyone suggest me, How to do " Standby DataGuard database to primary database (dataguard)".

    Hi
    Follow these steps
    Oracle switchover operation:
    1.     Check and verify the role parameter on the v$parameters both primary and standby
    On Primary
    Log_archive_dest_1=”this is the local archive destination”

    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary┘
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> Startup;11.     If this don’t work please issue the below statement
    SQL> alter database activate standby database skip standby logfile;12.     If the switch over fail issue the following statement on standby (ORACLE 10g and above)
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database finish force;
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary;
    SQL> alter database open;
    SQL> shutdown Immediate;
    SQL> startup;13. Added the temp file to your temp tablespace
    If you follow the steps (10,11 & 12 ) you have to recreate the standby again. those steps are actually fail over steps. Hope this will be helpful

  • PUBLIC database account on oracle 10g - what are the default privilages?

    Hi there,
    I was wondering what are the default privileges to PUBLIC database account on oracle 10g R2. Could somebody explain it? Thank you in advance.

    There is not a user PUBLIC. There cannot be a user PUBLIC. Users and roles share the same name space so if there is a role PUBLIC, there can not be a user PUBLIC.
    The catalog table user$ contains both roles and users. The usage is determined by the TYPE# column - 1 = user, 0 = role.
    select user#, name, type# from user$  order by 1
    sys@esdb01:pncl# /

  • I can not access to "Database Control - Sid_Name" in 10g

    Hi there.
    I have installed "Oracle Database 10g" (10.2.0.1) in Windows 2000 Advance Server SP4.
    All was Ok, and then I've created a new instance called "BDGPC".
    Then, in "start menu" -> "Oracle" I can see "Database Control - BDGPC".
    It goes to http:/myIP:1158/em/ but when it open the browser, it shows nothing, a absolutly blank page. It dont shows any error message. Only white page.
    I have other Oracle 10g in other server, and it runs. But I didnt installed these Oracle.
    So, I installed the "Database" from CD called "Oracle Database 10g". I need install another thing to run Database control?
    Why I see a blank page when I launch Database Control?
    Thanks in advance!

    Well, firstly the output was similar that "ORACLE_SID is not defined".
    So I set ORACLE_SID=mySID.
    Then I think it runs but I must enter in http://myIP:1158/em/console/
    Dont run http://myIP:1158/em/
    And first only runs in Firefox and dont in IExplorer 6. I dont know why, some ideas?
    In adiction, when I logon in "Database Control" throught Firefox, first times then it shows "404 not found". But when I tried it again it seems thats runs.
    Thanks again.
