Front Row auto launches on login

Now why would that be? About 4-5 seconds after logging in my user, Leopard auto launches Front Row. Leopard is choosy in this regard, as it does not extend the same 'courtesy' for my wife's account or that of the sysadmin.
Anyone else seen this oddity and got a way out of it?
Cheers,
Nige.

Don't just uncheck the box next to the name of the program. Click on the program to select it, and then click on the - (minus) button below the list of programs to actually remove the program from your startup list.
It doesn't remove the program from the computer, just the startup list for that account. I use the + button to add programs like AddressBook, Mail, and iCal to my user account so that they automatically launch when I log in. You are just trying to remove a program from that list totally.

  • How to prevent iTunes from auto-launching at login

For some reason, after every restart or logout/login, iTunes will auto-launch at login.
I initially thought that iTunes Helper in Login Items may be the culprit. So, I removed it from the list of Login Items. But, iTunes still launches automatically after login.
How can I prevent the auto launch?

Yup. I think this may have to do with .itms files. Apple has allowed web sites to open itunes with an autolaunch command. I think that the .itms files are the ones that auto launch itunes. I think what we are suffering here is a misuse of the itunes autolaunch command. Web developers seem to be able to launch itunes and try to display their products for purchase. It seems like Itunes has been turned into a 'Pop-Up' advertisement. I hope Apple takes notice and fixes it. I have been having this problem since I got this new i5 Imac in January.

  • Front Row Auto Play

I went to play music on Front Row like I used to on 10.4 on my new 10.5. I started the music fine and it played, but when I tried to get out by pressing the menu button on my remote, when I get to the main screen the music stopped. Is this suppose to happen? With 10.4 it usually kept playing and I could go on with what I was doing. Also, Front Row doesn't let you play music while viewing photos. Is this also supposed to happen? Is anyone else having these problems, I am using a newly updated intel MacBook Pro.

yes, this is normal behavior for the *new* Front Row, which is based on the Apple TV paradigm. as soon as you exit the "music" menu area, it will stop playing music. although it does not directly address your question, it is possible to set up a photo slideshow to play a particular playlist.

  • Why does front row launch, Why does front row launch

Why my new Apple TV, I noticed that occasionally iTunes will start playing a random song while I am watching a video on AppleTV that is being streamed from my mac. I also noticed that Front row will launch. How do I get my mac to just stay idle and let the apple tv do all the work? This is inconvenient especially if I am trying to do work at the same time. I might add that I am using 10,6,8 and the newest apple tv available

I realized that every time I open front row empty "iTunes Music" folder is created even I have "iTunes Media" folder in use. Anyone have any idea how to solve this? I tried to remove Frontrow.plist files but that does not help. I think this could be related to this issue since it is not happening on my other mac which is not having any front row problems...

  • Front Row won't launch iPhoto, no black menu

I just got my new Intel iMac. All works great but not the Front Row's photo show. When I press Photos on the rotating desktop, the menu just fades and shows Desktop. No error message, just desktop.
I deleted iPhoto, re-installed it (v. 6.0). Does not work. I updated it and Front Row to the latest versions, not working. I repaired permissions. Does not help.
If I manually open iPhoto, I can then launch the slideshow by using remote. And iPhoto works fine by itself. Problem seems to be that Front Row cannot launch the black FR menu and/or iPhoto.
I'd like to be able to launch the slideshow by only using remote as it is meant to be...
    Any help appreciated!

I solved it finally myself: I deleted my old photo files and photo albums from iPhoto. Now FR works nicely. Seems that the migrated photo libraries from iPhoto 4 did not fare well with iPhoto 6+Front Row.
Weirdly, this rather straightforward solution is not suggested anywhere...

  • Just stop already Front Row, I'm tring to use my APPLE TV!

I've searched the support threads and a few pages in this discussion group but missed what has got to be an easy fix. My Macbook pro is often either open and being used, or closed but still sitting in between me and my Apple TV. Whenever i use my apple TV remote, my Macbook- as it should- launched front row. Annoying especially when it is closed and in sleep, and now wakes up. How do I stop Front Row from launching when I am really working my apple tv. I rarely use it on my Macbok so I don't mind having to manually launch the application.

You will need to "pair" each of your two remotes with each device.

  • Automatically start Front Row

I've ditched the AppleTV in favour of a second Mac Mini. Much better. I'm streaming HDTV bitstreams and DVD (MPEG) bitsreams from a USB drive attached to Airport Extreme. (Simple alias creation in the MOVIE folder and additional components installed for Quicktime). No loss of quality through converting to h.264. No waiting around 24 hours to encode. Front Row interface is MUCH better than AppleTV interface.
Two questions which I can't find the answer to: First, is there a way to automatically start front row? I would like the Mac Mini to automatically turn on (easy) and then automatically start the Front Row interface.
Second, is there a way to modify the Front Row menu structure?
All I would like is simply Videos: Movies. I would like ro remove (or hide) Sharing... Trailers... etc.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

You can write an AppleScript, that you add to your user's login items, that will open Front Row each time you login. You can find the instructions here to write the script:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2148108
I don't think there's anyway to change the built-in menu structure, though. It's hard-coded into Front Row. You can add folders and sub-folders to your user's Movies folder. Front Row will follow them down into all your video files.

  • Is Front Row customizable?

Instead of it coming up with the little circle and the choices (movies, music, etc.), I'd love to be able to able to show the catagories that I would customize. They would all be movies (with no need for music and other choices) but I'd love to have "drama", "comedy', etc. come up when front row is launched instead of the general choices. Any thoughts?

Front Row cannot be customized in that way now. You may have some more options with a third party media organizer like Media Central. Before I got an Intel-based Mac I was using it as my media player/organizer. But, I haven't used it for a while now, so I can't remember if you can set the Movies section to open by default. You can, however, put folders ("drama", "comedy", etc.) in your Movies folder and navigate that way.

  • Front Row is Stuck

My Front Row is stuck on one picture from iPhoto and all I can do is press F9 or F10 to see particular applications, and from there us Front Row to launch iTunes, but that is it. I cannot stop iPhoto and I cannot force quit Front Row. I could force quit iPhoto but am afraid to lose a book that I have been putting together in iPhoto. As a recent (and otherwise extremely happy) Mac convert, does anyone have any hints? Would iPhoto save recent changes automatically? Any other way to quit front row?
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks, but unfortunately I could not actually get to the utility page to start the activity monitor. In any case, iPhoto finally crashed by itself but then I lost all of my work in iPhoto.

  • Front Row -- MBP, question?

    Hi,
I have the following computer listed below...
I also have a 22" LCD w/DVI connected to my computer... I have my computer setup so that my 22" extends the space of my MBP screen...
But -- When I launch Front Row, it launches on my MBP screen, not the 22". So, each time I want to use Front Row, I have to goto Monitors, and change so that 22" is my primary display........ This is really annoying, is there more a simple fix, so that I don't have to change things like this every time I want to use Front Row? I want MBP to be set as my primary display, 22" extending my desktop, but launching Front Row on my 22" ...
    Help help appreciated..
    Thanks,
    J.

Unfortunately, right now Front Row only displays in the "main" or "primary" screen. This is the one that is displaying the Dock and menubar. Since Font Row doesn't really have any preferences you can access to change the display screen, there's no way to change it now. If you want, in the Displays System Preferences, there's an option to "show displays in the menubar". This will give you a menubar option to "mirror" displays pretty quickly without opening the Displays System Preferences. Then you could open Front Row with the remote and it would display on both screens. But, there's no real simple way to change the primary display quickly or switch back.
I might suggest you send Apple some Mac OS X feedback and suggest you'd like an option to select the display:

  • Front Row on Mavericks?

Hey I now have Mavericks and I used to have Mountain Lion and I remeber I found some way to enable Front Row.... I used it a lot in Mountain Lion but is there a way to make it work in Mavericks as well? I have the icon still in my applications but when I go to open it looks as if its about to but then really does nothing...please help!
    Thank you,
    Derrik

Yes, Front Row works great with Mavrick 10.9.2
Copy these files from a snow-leopard installation (e.g. your backup) to the appropriate folders in Mavrick 10.9.2:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BackRow.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iPhotoAccess.framework
Confirm the copy process by typing in your password when required. You can then change the icon Apple Script  to Front Row's icon.
Open Apple Script Editor and type in:
    #launch Front Row
    tell application "/System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app"
      launch
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
      key code 53
    end tell

  • DVD's in front row

I have set my system preferences for Front Row to launch automatically when a dvd movie is inserted into the drive. Sometimes the movie will play. However at other times all I have is a full dark screen with the dvd being non-responsive. This has occurred with more than a couple of dvd's.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Andrew

Yes, Front Row handles DVDs fine. If Front Row is already open, a new section called DVDs appears after the Mac reads and mounts the disc. If you insert the DVD and let it be read and mounted first the new DVD section will be there when you open Front Row.

  • Front Row not functioning at all

I can't get Front Row to launch at all. I just got my machine back after having the motherboard replaced and everything seems to work except Front Row won't launch. Not with the remote, which works otherwise, nor using Command + Esc.
    Help.

Why would it leave this file out when installing new system and how do I replace it without reinstalling?
Front Row, for now, isn't specifically included in a Mac OS X install. You need to install it after installing Mac OS X. You can put your OS X install disk in and double-click on the "Install Bundled Software" icon. On the "Installation Type" screen, there a button to "Customize" the install. Then you can be sure to check on "Front Row". There might be some of the other software, like the iLife suite, you could install from there as well. Be sure to run the Software Update afterwards to make sure you're up-to-date.
