Front Row Incorrectly Reads iTunes Metadata under Snow Leopard?

There is a serious problem with Front Row under Snow Leopard. The program is unable to correctly read the TV metadata from iTunes and does not correctly filter/organize the data. TV episode/season/title data is not read resulting in a completely disorganized library. All files are viewd as "movies" whether they have been tagged as TV shows or not. I had a sizable libray of videos that was perfectly organized under Tiger. Under Snow Leopard my entire database has been blown up- most TV shows appear as "Untitled". I'm sure they are MacMini users who have integrated their computers into their media playback systema s I have and am hoping Apple will provide a fix for this issue which totally undercuts one of the main reasons for integrating the Mini into one's home theatre system. Does any have a fix or simple work around. Come on Apple-- don't turn into Microsoft on me!

I recently purchased a used iMac (from 2006), that the previous owner had upgraded to Snow Leopard. I already have a MacBook Pro. To explain, I purchased the iMac to set it up as a media center computer, connected to my external hard drive and synced with AppleTV. I used Migration Assistant to move my files onto the iMac, but Front Row is now showing all the errors you described.
1. It is VERY slow to open. Clicking Menu on the remote, and you wait 15 seconds or more for Front Row to open.
2. Even though iTunes is directed to my external hard drive, Front Row shows Source as my Macbook Pro.
3. TV shows are out of order. On my Macbook Pro (10.5.8) all shows are listed from first to last, from top to bottom. On the iMac (10.6.4) they are listed last to first, top to bottom.
4. Some TV shows that are clearly in iTunes (purchased from iTunes) do not appear in Front Row at all.
5. The unwatched content blue dot remains even after watching something all the way through to the end. After watching them in Front Row, iTunes does not show them as watched either, but instead has the half blue dot, as if they were unfinished.
6. iTunes is also badly affected: I now have a large number of TV shows in the Movies section, and attempts to reorganize them in the folders on the external where they are store fails. It's a complete mess, and it seems like its deliberate that we cannot reorganize it ourselves.
So what used to be a very lovely program has become a horribly messy, PC like, application. Which made the whole point of setting up a special computer just for media a total waste of time and money with Snow Leopard installed.
If a fix is not forthcoming, I'm probably going to uninstall Snow Leopard, and reinstall Leopard. Everything worked fine there for me.

  • HP AIO: Scan to Computer STILL missing under Snow Leopard?

Has anyone gotten any info on the status of the "Scan to Computer" and "Copy to Computer" (for reading memory card) under Snow Leopard? Being able to scan and copy files from my AIO directly to my Mac under Leopard was freaking awesome. Now I have to acquire images from the Mac (which works) and there is no way to automagically copy over files from the card reader at all.
It's a real bummer to have to use a Windows machine to do these things... Especially since it was working fine in Leopard and we've been waiting months with no work and the only HP person appears to no longer be able to post here.

Uh-huh. I beg to differ and think it is an Apple issue and an Image Capture issue in particular.
I have a nice new Epson SX610FW that is absolutely stunning in Windows Vista.
It also has Epson Scan application that does scan but Image Capture sticks and will not talk to the scanner.
Plus on Windows I can fax from the 'pooter using Epson Fax, in OS 10.5 or 10.6 no fax option is available.
I am of the opinion that print, scan and fax is broke in OS 10.6
So, in my case on a wi-fi capable all-in-one:
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Scan
    Print
    Fax
    On the device
    Copy
    Fax
send scan to a declared network computer (I have not tried this too thoroughly but it looks broke on OS X)
    In OS 10.5
    Scan
    Print
    no Fax
    or 10.6
Scan with Epson Scan but not with Image Capture or Preview (Preview fires up Image Capture with no option to use Epson Scan instead)
    Print
    no Fax
Why won't OS X do Fax easily from an all-in-one - a relatively new all-in-one at that?
    Interim conclusion
Image Capture is broked in OS 10.6
Fax is strange in OS X

  • Automatic Front Row Playlist in iTunes?

Hi, I just got my MBP last week, and i was wondering:is there any way to disable the automatic creation of a Front Row Playlist in iTunes anytime i play music thorugh it?

No you can't configure that. It should however get removed by Front Row when it exits to the desktop.

  • ITunes will not sync audio to iPad under Snow Leopard

When I try to sync audio (music and podcasts) from my MacBook Pro to my new iPad, nothing gets transferred.  They are listed under the iPad heading at the left of iTunes, but have a gray chasing-arrows icon to the left of the names.  (I tried to include an image, but it doesn't work.)
My contacts and calendar do get copied to the iPad.
If I boot from a different partition running Lion, with the same home folder, iTunes does sync audio files.  But I'd like to get it running under Snow Leopard.

  • Backing up an encrypted drive with Time Machine under Snow Leopard

In a nutshell, my question is “Can I back up an encrypted drive using Time Machine under Snow Leopard, and if so, how do I access its data from a previous day?”
I have a 1Tb USB drive connected to my MacBook, which runs Snow Leopard. The drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This drive is included in the drives that Time Machine backs up. I used Disk Utility to create an encrypted drive on the USB drive (998Gb), also formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The encrypted drive is not on TimeMachine’s list of excluded files/drives.
When I go into Time Machine, I can see the USB drive and the encrypted drive in the side bar. I can access the files on the encrypted drive as long as I’m looking at how it stands now. But if I move backward in time, the encrypted drive is grayed out and inaccessible.  If I click on the USB drive, I get a window that tells me it is 75.9Gb in size, and nothing else is available to me.
When I open the back-up drive in Finder and navigate to Backups.backupdb > macbook name > some date and time, I see my MacBook’s hard drive and the USB drive. The encrypted drive is not shown. When I click on the USB drive, I see an entry for drivename.sparsebundle. When I click on that I’m prompted for the password for the encrypted drive. When I enter it, I get a warning telling me that the disk image could not be opened and that the encrypted drive has no mountable file systems.
Is my encrypted drive really be backed-up and if so, how do I access the backed-up data?

Having received a bunch of views but no replies over the last 5 days, I decided to venture into my local Apple store and ask this same question. The response I got from the geniuses was that you can't get a reliable back-up of an encrypted drive using Time Machine under Snow Leopard. So, my only alternative is to copy the encrypted drive's contents elsewhere, unencrypt the drive, and then copy the contents back. This is what I expected, but not what I wanted to hear.

  • My app will no longer run under Snow Leopard, runs fine under Lion.

My app will no longer run under Snow Leopard, even though it was originally written for Snow Leopard.  It runs fine on my Dev machine under Lion. But when I test it on my Snow Leopard Mac Mini the app starts but the window does not appear. Going to file, new window does nothing. My depolyment target is set to 10.6. Is there something I did to make my app lose Snow Leopard compatiblty?

Does your application use features only available in Lion?  Are you getting any console logs?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless Won't Scan Under Snow Leopard

After installing Snow Leopard, my new HP Officejet Pro Wireless 8500 all-in-one printer won't scan. It delivers the following error message: "No Scan Options - refer to device documentation".
Also, when I attempted to check and adjust scan settings using HP's Scan Destinations program, that program hangs and cannot save any setting changes. Then I have to use "Force Quit" to stop the program from hanging up while saving.
HP's software update reports the printer software is up to date.
It appears there are a ton of printer problems appearing for people after installing Snow Leopard, but I sure would appreciate any help on solutions if someone also has this problem.
    Thanks much.

I also just tried connecting my 8500 wireless printer directly via usb and then downloading the HP printer drivers from Apple downloads and reinstalling.
The install hangs nearly forever on the final step, but eventually says the driver install was successful. However, then when connected via usb, I am unable to print. Printing works when you reconnect via the wireless on the 8500.
So connecting via usb and reinstalling HP printer drivers does not solve the issue. And it's puzzling, because the list of supported printers under Snow Leopard lists the Officejet Pro8500 Wireless as supporting both printing and scanning.
    Somebody has it wrong.
If this scanning problem continues very long, I may be forced to uninstall Snow Leopard, because my printer is brand new.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless second paper tray under Snow Leopard

He there, I have a strange problem with the second (extra) paper tray from the Office Jet Pro 8500. I have setup the tray and activated the option on the driver page on the computers, but no results. No paper is loaded from the tray and there is an error that no paper is loaded in the machine. The printer is connected via ethernet (and a time machine) and I am running snow leopard on all the machines that are connected to the printer. I have installed the latest drivers from Apple and from HP. I know that the paper tray is working, because when I make a copy on the machine localy and force him to use papertray number 2, then there is no problem.
Does anybody have the same problem?? Thanks

  • I have a big problem with Lion and PGP. After upgrading from snow leopard to lion I cannot access my PGP drive which was generated under snow leopard. PGP does not start but gives a notion that lion cannot work with my PGP version. Solution?

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion I cannot access a PGP drive which was generated under snow leopard. PGP does not start. When I try to start I just receive a message that Lion cannot work with PGP. How can I now access important and confifential informatio which I have stored in PGP (snow leopard). Do I have to move back to snow leopard. If so, how can I do this?

  • PhotoShop Elements 6 for Mac under Snow Leopard?

Hi. Apple's new operating system for Mac, Snow Leopard is being released tomorrow.
According to the Snow Leopard wiki, Photoshop Elements 6 does not work under Snow Leopard:
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
I contacted Adobe to ask if they had any plans to update Photoshop Elements 6 to work with Snow Leopard.  The response I got from their support was that Adobe Photoshop Elements was programmed before Snow Leopard and so they weren't responsible if it didn't work.
I am pissed because of course Photoshop Elements was programmed before Snow Leopard.  EVERY software program was. Most of my software (and I have a lot of apps) are being updated for Snow Leopard by their developers.
I'm writing this post just to make sure that Photoshop Elements doesn't work under Snow Leopard. It's possible whoever posted that Photoshop Elements didn't work under Snow Leopard could have been having an isolated problem.
So, if anyone tries Photoshop Elements with Snow Leopard, please post here whether or not it works.
    Thanks a lot.
    Mirskyman

No, there are no significant known conflicts with Snow Leopard, so that's not your problem. Have you deleted prefs since the upgrade? Was this an upgrade in place rather than an erase install? If so, go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
    com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist
Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 Paths Folder
Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 Settings Folder
    Opera preferences
repair permissions and see if it's any better. Do you have any third party content installed in PSE? There may well be conflicts with that, if so.

  • Font problem with MX under Snow Leopard

Anybody know what might cause an app built with Director MX not to display an installed (not embedded) custom font under Snow Leopard?
The program was built quite some time ago but was tested under previous Mac OS X.x versions and worked fine. What might have changed that could cause this problem?
Complicating this is that I don't have Snow Leopard myself to test it directly, but here's what I do know:
The font is definitely installed and available to other apps.
Everything else about the app works fine.

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • Problems with AppleWorks drawing docs under Snow Leopard

Since I installed Snow Leopard, I've encountered two major problems:
(Problem 1) AppleWorks gets corrupted when dragging a picture file (.jpg or .png) from the desktop into a drawing document. Various dialogs (e.g. "Format : Document..." or "Format : Ruler : Settings ..." or "Options : Object Size ...") become uneditable. These dialogs will display blank boxes instead of the given object settings, and nothing can be entered into these boxes. AppleWorks must be shut down and restarted in order to continue work.
(Problem 2) When a formula (i.e. an equation) has been created in a MathType window, selected and copied, it takes ages to make AppleWorks the active application (spinning rainbow coloured ball appears and keeps spinning for a long while). Thereafter, it takes another century to get the formula appearing in the AppleWorks document when selecting the command "Edit : Paste".
Everything worked still fine under Leopard; under Snow Leopard it's a desaster.
    p.s.
I've produced thousands of work sheets for my Maths teachings using the Drawing module of AppleWorks in combination with MathType (Design Science). Now I'm stuck since there is no decent successor of AppleWorks available:
    * iWork doesn't feature a drawing module.
    * EazyDraw doesn't collaborate with MathType (i.e. no OLE; inserted formulae cannot be edited by double-clicking).
    * OpenOffice doesn't collaborate with MathType.
    * Micro$oft Office doesn't feature a drawing module.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I don't use AppleWorks as much as I used to & I've never had a need to use MathType, but I just tried dragging 3 images - a .png, a .tiff & a .jpg - to a new AppleWorks draw document. I had no problems resizing them using Format > Scale by percent & I had no problems using any of the other dialog boxes you mention.
Some basic troubleshooting you might try:
Whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions in 10.4.x, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them. You should do this step anytime AppleWorks crashes or you force quit it.
The slowness is likely the "Recent Items bug" & it has been around since AppleWorks 6 was released in March, 2000. It can make it appear that AppleWorks has frozen or failed to launch. The user tip by Dale Gillard, AppleWorks slow? Spinning ball appears?, explains a lot.
Could you send me a copy of one of these worksheets? Perhaps I can see if I can easily duplicate one in Pages/Numbers/Keynote. Even though iWork doesn't have a draw app, all of the apps do have basic drawing capabilities.

  • Dell U2713H Startup under Snow Leopard

Under Snow Leopard, 10.6.8, my new Dell U2713H doesn't come on when I Start Up my Mac Pro. I have to turn it off from energy saving mode, and back on. I also miss the spinning starting up window completely. Wonder what I would do if I needed to see a verbose startup.
It displays a message saying I need to correct the 2560x1440 @ 60Hz selection. I believe it selects the proper high resolution and frequency ... but to have to turn the monitor off / on isn't right.
I'm using the Dual DVI-D connector supplied by Dell with my Mac Pro ATI Radeon HD 2600, which has 2 dual DVI ports.
    It works under 10.9.1 Mavericks ... and I also get full 2560 x 1440 @ 60Hz.
I tried the EDID Force RGB override many people correct color while using mini Display port connectors ... but no change.  (Reference: http://embdev.net/topic/284710#3027030)
Can I use something from OS X 10.9 in my 10.6.8 installation that would correct this issue?
    Thanks

I've tried resetting PRAM and rebuilding after a Safe Boot, to no avail.

This is all I could find on Adobes Forumns

They talk about changing the permissions of the admin group but you have to be careful or you will mess your machine up -I dont wanna do that.
Is anyone having this problem? Or can anyone help

You might try creating another user account (testUser) and seeing if those installers will function properly there, under a clean account...

  • Acrobat CS4 under Snow Leopard

hello one and all, just received new CS4 web premium and installed on a new mac pro with snow leopard 10.6.1.  printing to the acrobat 9 printer doesn't work.  it gets up to asking for the location and filename of the pdf file, the host software sends the print pages to the driver, but the pdf file never shows up on the harddrive.  additionally, acrobat will die unexpectantly by simply opening a pdf file.  i am hoping/betting that this is because i installed CS4 under snow leopard and i am anxiously awaiting updates to bring stability to the CS4 products.  thank you.  lucas

Here's one way to accomplish having a PDF printer in Snow Leopard:
Requirements: 2 computers—one running Snow Leopard and one running an OS in which the PDF printer appears in the print menu, say Tiger 10.4.11, for example.
    1. On the Tiger computer:
    a. In Preferences, turn on Print Sharing.
    b. In Preferences, make the Adobe PDF Printer share-able.
    2. On the Snow Leopard computer:
    a. In Preferences: add the Adobe PDF printer, which will appear as a Bonjour printer after you clik +
Note that files may not appear where you expect them: printing to pdf results in files being generated on the Tiger computer's desktop (for me).
This was arrived at working with an Apple Support Tech named Eric: thanks, Eric!
Adobe: Printing to pdf is by no means replaced by the drop-down, especially for batch processing of many items.
A way to create a properly scaled pdf and eps file from any application is key for many people.
