Frozen 80 GB ipod

I have the old school 80GB ipod. When I tried to sync recently I had an error message stating "drive can not be read or written to" (or something like that). I tried to restore the ipod however after twenty minutes or so it still read "restoring ipod". I removed the ipod and turned it off and then back on and now it's stuck with a dark screen and a faint apple in the middle. Any suggestions. All help is truly appreciated.

Hi and welcome....
"drive can not be read or written to"
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you cannot sync the iPod, the hard drive is failing or has failed.
To make sure you can make an appointment an Apple Genius bar here.

My computer is frozen and my iPod is plugged in, trying to sync. I can't eject my iPod with a frozen laptop. Any suggestions on how to unplug it without losing all my music?

All you can do is force close iTunes, disconnect the iPod, reboot the computer and see is you can sync or if a restore is required.

  • My daughter ipod touch is frozen.. Ipod is disabled, connect to itunes

My daughter ipod touch is frozen It says, ipod is disabled, connect to itunes.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Do not disconnect screen is frozen on my ipod

I have a video IPod 30G. I got a new computer and I downloaded the new itunes 7.0. It recognized my ipod but it would not let me add my current 1800 songs to the library. I ejected my ipod on itunes several times and nothing happened. I went ahead and disconnected my ipod from the usb connector like I've done before and now it froze and the wording "do not disconnect" is frozen on the bottom of my screen. I tried to reset it, but it's still frozen. I tried to connect it back again and now it's not recognizing my ipod in itunes or my computer. When I do connect it, it does not regcognize my device? I ran a diagnostic through itunes and it shows that there is a connection problem w/ my ipod. What can I do? I've tried to turn it off and on and nothing is working. Please help!!

I drained the battery, and the "do not disconnect" screen finally came off.... I must have reset my ipod, I lost all my 1800+ songs,. But I have a new problem, when I connect it to the usb port, itunes opens up but has an error message saying to go to the summary preference and select restore to factory setting??? I don't show that anywhere in my IPOD, where is the "summary" icon? My computer can recognize it as a drive but itunes can't...what do I do now..?

  • Frozen screen on iPod

My iPod screen is frozen on a black screen with an arrow in the upper left and the time bar at the bottom at 00:00. It does not show up in the Source panel when connected to iTunes and it will not reset by toggling the Hold button then holding down the Menu button. I'm stumped.
    Thanks,
    Jon

The problem resolved itself. Because the iPod would not respond to any commands, it eventually drained the battery and when I recharged it, everything was fine.

  • Completely Frozen 4th Gen IPod

Its frozen in a block of ice... hehe
I have a 40gig 4th gen monochrome ipod which froze on me today. I was running with it. I had it set to shuffle with the hold on. Next thing I realize, it goes to the next song, and thats it. Frozen. I unhold it, and the hold icon is still there. The clock at the top is still the same as when it froze, nothing works. I tried turning it off, and I can't; I can still hear the drive spinning.
I wanted to reset, but when I connected to the comp, itunes didn't pick it up. When I docked it to the power dock it made the sound like it connected.
So there it is stuck. I don't know if its still functioning or if its a screen problem (the battery level is still the same even though its running)
    What to do?

Ok so i just put into Disk Mode and have it connected to my computer, hopefully it will work after awhile

  • Frozen 1st gen ipod touch

My 1st gen. ipod touch is completely frozen.  It is not even recognized when I connect it to itunes.  I have tried restarting it several times, but that hasn't helped.  When it restarts, it shows the red flash for battery charge, then goes to apple screen, then it stays stuck on apple screen - with frozen "timer".  Any suggestions on how to get this back???

  • Frozen 4th Gen Ipod 40gb

My ipod is frozen with the light on, it says its playing but nothing is happening! Clicking the click wheel does nothing and holding the center button and pause at the same time to reset does nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've also tried plugging it into the computer to try to reset from itunes but itunes doesn't recognize it either probably because its frozen.

I would just let it run out of power. That will completely reset the iPod. You can try connecting to the computer after it shuts off from lack of power.
Alternately, if you have previously opened the iPod, and have the plastic tools, you can open it and disconnect the battery. Leave it disconnected for a few minutes and then reconnect.
If the problem recurs, your iPod may have a problem with the hard drive (which was probably the reason it locked up). Reformatting the iPod's hard drive using Windows, and then using Restore in iTunes may fix the problem, at least temporarily. When reformatting, use the full format.

  • My Computer Frozen While My iPod Was Loading Songs

My PC froze randomly while I was loading songs on to my iPod. The iPod said and still says "Do Not Disconnect" even though the computer is froze completely. The whole PC is frozen and I have to use my laptop to post this. Should I disconnect my iPod even though it says "Do Not Disconnect" or shut down my computer while leaving my iPod plugged in?

or shut down my computer while leaving my iPod plugged in?
That's what I would do. Then disconnect the iPod and reset it.

Thanks.

    Hi Boxermum!
Have you first tried resetting your iPod? To reset an iPod:
First, toggle your iPod's "Hold" switch back and forth a couple of times (make sure to leave it on the white side of the switch).
Then, press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons together for 5-10 seconds.
You may need to attempt this step several times.
(For more efffect, you could try connecting your iPod to a power source, like a wall charger or your computer'sUSB, while you reset your iPod.)
Does that help un-freeze your iPod?

  • Frozen Battery Eating Ipod

So everytime that I turn my I-pod off it dosn't really turn off it freezes. I can unfreeze it fine but the problem is that when it is frozen it uses up the battery so I can never relaly use my mini when I want it, because it dies. I have tried to restore the I-pod, and this did nothing at all. Any sugestions?

If it froze once then it is probaly just a glitch, but if you are see freezes on a regular basis then there could be something wrong with the ipod. I've had mine since December and it has frozen once or maybe twice.
One thing to try if it is freezing regularly is to restore the ipod. This would clear up any software problems that may have occured. This will also erase your ipod so make sure your music is backed up somewhere. To see how to restore click on "Support" and check the 5 R's under "iPod Issues".
