Frustrated With Apple's Mail.app Interface :(

Been Mac user since System 7.5 in professional publishing environment.
Just was forced to using Mail.app and I have to wonder about the new Geniuses.
I create a new email and attach a word.doc and Acrobat .pdf — first I can't tell if they are actually attached or what is actually attached — so confusing.
I click on Get New Message and I can't tell if the app is actually doing something, then I can hardly hear the sound when it finishes the task.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

Have you considered the possibility that the third party fan software might itself be implicated in the issue, theosib (or perhaps something else introduced at about that time?).
My inclination in a situation like this would be to back up your drive to an external, wipe the drive, and do a clean installation. At the very least I'd try an archive and install.
Do you have plenty of free space on the drive? Once you get things down below the last 10 to 20% things can get hairy at times, and may not be fixed as a result of simply freeing up some room, as free space fragmentation is likely to have set in.
As far as RAM goes, either "Rember" - http://www.kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember/ or, better still, but less user friendly, "memtest" - http://www.memtestosx.org/ does a much better job of checking your RAM than the AHT. Still takes a while to run for a thorough test, but much quicker than the approach you are planning on using.
You might also want to use "Activity Monitor" to check for any applications with progressive "memory leaks" or that are acting as CPU hogs, given your symptoms

How can I edit received emails in Apple's Mail app? Also, delayed sending of replies?

I finally switched to Apple's Mail app 4 months ago after 12 years of using Eudora (because of the inevitable - that Lion or Mountain Lion, when I upgrade, will not support the foundation architecture that Eudora is built on).
There are (AT LEAST) two functions available in Eudora that I very much want to do with Mail and currently cannot figure out how to do. I'm hoping that someone knows of a plugin that will do these functions, or will write such a plugin, or will tell me how to make this suggestion to Apple to include in a future update.
1) I want the freedom to EDIT a received message - to correct a subject line, or make it more relevant for my reference, or add a key word/prefix to the subject for future searching and archiving, along with being able to edit the message itself, so that it is the equivalent in a book (or an eBook) of adding comments/marginalia for future reference. (In my opinion, once I receive an email message, it is MINE - so I should be able to do what I want with it (which includes the responsibility of not rewriting a message to resend to appear as deceptive or fraudulent).
2) Write up a draft email, that would reside in the "Send" folder of Eudora, and for which I could select a time in the future that it should be mailed (dependent on the fact that Eudora would be running at that time, else it would send the next time Eudora was opened. I would LOVE to be able to do that in Apple Mail. Rationale: Often, when I receive an actionable email, I want to respond at that moment while the subject is fresh, but due to priorities or scheduling reasons, I don't want the response to go out just then. Maybe I want the response to go out after an event three days from now, but I want to process the message right now, and I don't want to have to remember to make a ToDo item to remind me in 3 days.

That tip takes me further down the field. And, I am able to do stuff like indent and change font color of my comments which is very helpful.
However, the big disappointment is that by dragging the original message to the Draft mailbox and then back to the original one after the edits is that it removes the original sender's name and puts mine in along with changing the heading info on date and time. That is, it creates a new message, rather than allowing me to modify the original one to suit my needs.
All the same, this was a very helpful tip. Thanks again.

Apple's Mail app keeps jumping away to a different message when syncing....

Its been an issue since iOS 5.x for me at least.
I use the Apple Mail app on my iPhone 4s, because simple is good enough. But has this very annoying tendancy to jump out of the message I'm looking at and pull up another old message in the message view, when it syncs with the various mailboxes. Always seems to jump to the same old message.
Any ideas why and how to get Apple to fix thier mail app? If thats not gonna happen, how do I remove Apple's mail app and point all things mail to a new app of my choosing?
My setup, I read several mail accounts via the Apple Mail app:
Gmail EXCHANGE connection ( my main mail account and listed first in the Mailboxes list)
Another gmail accout, connected as a gmail mail account
Hotmail account
When I'm reading (viewing) a message, and a new sync happens, Mail jumps out of the message I was looking at and pulls up an old message from the gmail (as a gmail connection) message (account #2 in the list above).
Its REALLY annoying. Syncing is fine, but DO NOT change what the user is viewing as you sync.. why would you?

Annoyingly still happening in iOS 6.1.3 to this day.
I'll be reading a message in my main Gmail account, and the Apple Mail app checks for mail and then just jumps to show a message in a completley different mail inbox account .. a message that is rather old even.
How is this desireable behavior ?
If someone upgraded to iOS 7.xx and found they had this problem but its since been fixed, please let us know here.

Unable to receive gmail through apple's mail app 4.3 on Mac Book Pro

I am unable to receive gmail through apple's mail app 4.3, on my MacBook Pro although I can receive my email on the gmail web site. *I can send email through Mail with no problems I just can't receive any e-mail in Mail.* Recently I got a message that my user name or password was incorrect. I made sure the information was correct but still I can't receive any e-mail in Mail. Could somebody please help me?
Here are the settings. Are they correct?
Account Type: Gmail IMAP
Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com

I had the same problem. The unlocking mentioned above worked for me. Right now mail.app is downloading the messages.

The key here is to go to labs and enable advanced IMAP settings.
I'm not cheering yet if I hover over the folders / labels that are synced I get de message "Unable to open "foldername""

Flash is not, and probably never will be, supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ . Plus it would be up to Adobe to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices - something which they have never managed to do and which they have now given up on trying to do.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter and Puffin 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, so your could try checking there for your sites (and there is the built-in YouTube app).

Is anybody having problems with the courier mail app, the page shuts down during reading a page

We are new users of the iPad and are getting annoyed with the courier mail app , whilst reading the paper the page just shuts down and requires restarting ang reopen isn't it

Totally frustrated with Apple!!!!!

I have authorized my sisters computer to play movies/songs that I have purchased using my account. However some of the movies won't even pull up in itunes. when I log into my account and try to download them i get a message.."if you download past purchases with your apple ID you can not auto download or download purchases with a different apple ID for 90 days" ... What is the point in being able to authorize 5 computers to your account if it doesn't work ... HELP, I am totally frustrated with apple and it's many products

If you redownload your past purchases on that computer then you will tie that computer to your account for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 - your sister won't be able to use iTunes Match, automatic downloads, or redownload her purchases until the 90 days have completed. I believe that it's an attempt to try and stop people sharing purchases.
You can copy the films over from your own computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 (that page refers to music but it works for other content as well, I've used home sharing to copy films and apps etc)

Already frustrated by jumping in and not getting some needed information before hand, hmm k
Create a new apple id - OR
create a new free web base email - sign into the apple id you have now edit the primary email address with the just newly created email save [you justs freed your email address from being an apple id]
Once you have all the4 correct information/data etc needed to be able to then chose option None
use that email to create apple id

Using Gmail Aliases with iOS 8 Mail App

I'm wondering if there is any way to use gmail aliases with the default mail app. I've already tried the methods listed on these two sites:

I can already send from a few different aliases with the default mail app on Mac. I have two step authentication setup on on my gmail account so I've these methods with both my normal password and app specific passwords generated by Google. Is there something that I'm missing?

Seems to work properly for me. Are we looking at the same place? to instruct it to Delete instead of Archive:
In Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (select account) > Account (select your e-mail address) > Advanced.
Mailbox Behavior for Deleted Mailbox: Trash.
then
Move Discarded Messages Into: Deleted Mailbox.
It wasn't this way by default. Move Discarded was Archive, and it gave the results you described. Changing that to Deleted works for me.
I set the Swipe left-to-right to Archive. So now one swipe will Archive, the other will Delete.

A free e-mail account to use with Apple's Mail

I used to have an 1 Gb e-mail account in Spymac.com. I could read and send e-mails in the Spymac site or through the Apple's Mail.
Not anymore: only at the Spymac page.
Now, I am looking for an e-mail that I could get to work through Mail; it does not need to be big: 100 Mb would be enough.
I could not put the aim.com to work with Mail and I do not want Google's or Microsoft's . As a matter of fact, I would prefer an account with a small player.
By the way, I use 10.3.9, but this discussion is connect with Tiger and Panther was left away.
Any suggestions?

I want to thank Mulder, NoteFarm and Claire JR for the help.
Before each of the posts, I had opened up an account at Earth Link, but could not make it work
with Mail, even following the instructions.
It appears that the Mail application has some trouble, because before I could use it and now I could not figure out in neither Aim or Earth Link.
After I got your answers, I read each one of the options and tried to choose from that.
The first one was the MacMail (because the name), but the service is out for new users, with this message: We're sorry, MacMail user registration is closed at this time.
The second one was <http://www.fastmail.fm/>, withTaglines on emails.
I will give it a try, because although 10 MB of storage space is too little,if I can use it with Apple’s Mail, I could delete the e-mails at fastmail.fm and have those only at Mail. I hope that the Taglines on emails do not be too big.
The more interesting, before really knowing and hoping that it works through Mail, is <http://www.mailshack.com>, because it is opposed to Google’s Gmail , because the same reasons I do not use Google’s products: lack of privacy and become a target for ads, differently of <http://www.cashette.com/myCashette/CashetteMail/homepage.htm>, where one could make money reading ads.
I could not yet make Mail work; if I get there, I will repost, because the people that spent their time here deserve a return of the suggestions.

How do you get mailboxes set up on Bt yahoo in safari onto your apple e.mail app?

When you say Mailboxes, do you mean actual folders or the overall setting up of Yahoo mail on iPad? If overall setup then when you select Mail it should show some email suppliers, I believe Yahoo should be listed, if you select it, it should then ask for you details.
If you mean folders, if Yahoo is IMAP based if you create folders online via webmail, they should pull through to your iPad when the account has been set up.
Alternatively, if you have got mail up and running on your iPad and want a new folder, just select your account under the Accounts heading in Mail you should see a list of all the folders present, click EDIT in at the top of the screen, just to the right of where it is likely to say either Yahoo or BT and it will then give you the option to add a mailbox(FOLDER) at the bottom of the screen.

You have to contact AppleCare by telephone.
