FTP Bug Dreamweaver CS3
There is a issue with Dreamweaver CS3 and ftp connections. For some reason if I leave dreamweaver open for a few hours and come back, I get an error when saving to the web server that an ftp error has occurred. There is no problem with ftp service on the server and no the users are not maxing out the connection.
The simple yet odd fix is to restart dreamweaver. The problem is that dreamweaver should not do this. If i have saved documents and open from the remote, and if the remote over rides the local, I have lost changes made to given file.
Dreamweaver's ftp bug is a problem. Having 18 specific documents open in dreamweaver, just to have to close and re open dreamweaver just to save files to a known working ftp server.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Those seem like good practices.
As far as the firewall issue, I am very sure that it is not the firewall, unless its a bug with windows firewall being disabled and dreamweaver checking its status and getting confused. The windows firewall is disabled by group policy and being a local admin, I am sure of this.
Just to give a better idea of the issue.
I come in at 8, and I open dreamweaver. I open files edit them, save them, which by my settings ftp's saved files. I have no problem saving the files to the remote server.
Around 12 ish i leave for lunch and I come back to dreamweaver. Dreamweaver, is the way i left it, it has a few of the files I am working on open inside of dreamweaver. I make a change to any given file and save it, i then get the FTP error. I could try changing the "site" i am working on and connect to its ftp, just to get an FTP error. I leave dreamweaver in its current state, and i open filezilla and ftp into the same server as well as delete, rename, copy files to the ftp.
In order to resolve the connecting to ftp issue, I have to close and reopen dreamweaver. And only after doing that can i access any ftp server through dreamweaver.
If i could never get to the ftp server through dreamweaver, I would assume a firewall issue, but that is not the case.

Hi,
As always thank you for your help.
I am keen to try dw ftp in order to load site folders, as I have had to resort to loading png image individually via File Manager in order for them not to go corrupt.
However, I keep getting an error message and need someone to help me.
I use MAMP on localhost: 8888 as my testing server. I have also tried both server settings options in the remote panel.
I have included the detail from my isp as well as screenshots of my testing server, remote server, and the original and updated version of the local info server as well as the error message.
Here is the detail from the isp:
Uploading Your Website
And once your domain has propagated you may use the details below:
FTP Hostname: eddit.co.za
Webpage URL: http://www.eddit.co.za <http://www.eddit.co.za/>
Login Details
[Details removed by moderator]
The username and password are definitely correct as I have used the both in Cyberduck and cPanel.
I looked through the forum and see that dw ftp is not too popular, but would really like an experienced eye to tell me if I am not making some silly mistake.
Much appreciated.

[Screenshots removed at request of original poster]Took me a call to tech support to understand what to do in Dreamweaver at first, too.
That was some years ago.
If your hosting service uses a standard Linux/Apache host, the way you need to set up Dreamweaver is quite simple, really.
Fill out your local info as you have, defining an area on your Mac for websites. Mine is in /user/userid/sites/
Then I have a whole series of folders beneath that, one for each website I manage.
You're doing a testing server and you have figured that out.
In the site definitions window, I click on the Advanced tab and select the Remote Server, select FTP, then I type in the host name. In your case, your ISP has all ready given you that and the site has all ready propagated over the net enough so that you can use that.
As I said before, if you have a standard Linux/Apache server, your host directory will almost always be: /public_html/
Then type in your Login and Password. Then click the Test button. If Dreamweaver says you have connected successfully, you're all set. If it doesn't, click the Use Secure FTP (SFTP). Then click "Test" again. If that works, you're all set. You can play around with passive FTP and, unless you have your Mac set up with a strange firewall setup, you needn't click on "Use Firewall," unless you are working for a corporation with a big IT department that uses an additional firewall beyond that which your computer comes configured with.
Unless you are in a collaborative environment, I would not use "Enable file check in and check out." I would maintain synchronization information. I do not prefer to automatically upload files to the server when I save them.
Do this once or twice and you'll find everything really familiar. -
Hi, and thank you for reading this.
I've setup a production and test FTP servers in Dreamweaver CS3. It is either saves to production or test server when I click COMMAND+S (CONTROL on PC), but I'd like teh file to be saved on both simultaneously. Persssing Sync the Servers won't work since the servers are not mine and they a bit different, teh files are not the same. I just would like to be able to save 1 file at a time in both production and server with one click.
I've been searching the Interenet but could not find anything other than basic FTP setup. Any help would be appreaciated. Thanks!
AntonHi John, first of all thank you for replying!
The reason why I would like to have Dreamweaver to save to both servers Test and the Production at the same time is because it would save me a lot of time keeping both servers more or less in sync. I have to keep both Test and Production servers syncronized, but only wihtin a specific content. While I test my design I do use Test server, but then the hassle begins when I am asked to make changes to the content.
For example, I have a content page called books.html. I first built it on a Test server. Then switched to the tab called Remote, connect to the Remote Server, and save it. Very simple.
However, then I need to create 10 more pages, lets call them books1.html, books2.html, and so on. Again sync them with the Remote server.
All is great, but then my boss comes and say, hey there is a mistake on these files: books3, books4, books7, and books8. Please change the text content on those. So, I know the pages are working fine, I just need to update the text on both Test and Remote servers.
So at this point I have to open these 4 files, change the text, then SAVE ALL to Test server. Then, I switch to Remote tab, go back to files press any key and 'Delete' keys so that Dreamweaver would see the change in file so that it would be able to save it. Then again 'SAVE ALL' to the Remote server.
This is happening very OFTEN. It would save me so much time and brain power remembering which files I should sync if I am in a hurry and jump from one project to another, losing track of small changes in files when there are a lot of .html files.
CMS is only in development now so I have to work with what I got. As to regard to backups, I use Time Machine so I am set with that. Plus I use MAMP. So basically I first use MAMP for testing, then upload changes to the Test server with all the BIG databases, and only then to Remote (production) with real Database. However, this is only when I develop new pages, very often I just need to modify what's already has been created. So that's why a feature like Save to BOTH servers (Test and Remote) would make a big difference to me.

[BUG?] Dreamweaver CS3 b3481 removes all source
Hello,
Since a few days I noticed that Dreamweaver (CS3 build 3481)
is removing all of my PHP-coded source if I didn't close the
PHP-tag; '
?>'.
This is how I found out;
First I created a new PHP-document and went to the Source of
it. After some typing of HTML and PHP, the document had to be saved
to a file. For example, the document's source is:
quote:
<?="Echoing a foobar!";?><br
/><table><tr><td>foo
bar</td></tr></table><?
More PHP source comes here
... without closing the PHP-tag.
The document will be saved to a file (f.e.: foobar.php). Now,
everything after '</table>' is gone.
How is this possible?
Thanks for any read and respond.

I haven't come across this. If you have reproducible steps,

Dreamweaver CS3 (9) maxed CPU slow performance and FTP issues.
Dreamweaver CS3 (9) maxed CPU slow performance and FTP
issues.
Never mind...I found it.
Of course I have all the firewall, worm, scanning, phishing
filtering, full time protect, and everything else turned off when I
am working on a remote/testing site however I found the Symantec
antivirus email scan being enabled (doesn't it just interact with
my email program?) was getting in the way of DW9 ftp operations,
causing some lagging that was putting DW9 into an unstable mode
during and immediately after (10 seconds) ftp operations.
The CPU still spikes to 99% during ftp functions but DW9
works even though it's likely taxed to the max but when I turn off
email scan DW9 returned to a functioning state during ftp and
remote file view. Whatever it takes huh?
PS: email scanning only never effected DW8.02
My System Info: properly configured (as in: everything works
or I fix it) Toshiba - XP pro SP2 – Pentium 4 - 2.3GHz
– 1.5 GB ram – Intel extreme graphics card 64 MB ram
– Apache 2.2 server – PHP 5 – MySQL 5 -
phpMyAdmin – Dreamweaver 8.02 – Interakt Kollection
3.7.1 – Dreamwweaver 9 - DeVtoolbox – Flash –
GoLive - Photoshop - ImageReady – Illustrator – Acrobat
– CuteFTP – Putty SSH - blabla...)Thanks for the response. I managed to Google the 'nobody' account and found the explanation.
As you say, I assumed the 'syslogd' process had to do with system logs. I did check the console and couldn't find anything of particular interest in the logs.
I'll continue to monitor but if anyone has any further suggestions please post.
One thing that might also have an impact... my available drive space is now down to less than 5gb (runs anywhere between 1gb and 5gb free depending on what I'm running). I know this causes problems for Parallels as it keeps moaning at me, but would it cause any problems with OSX?
Thanks again,

Dreamweaver cs3 crashed after cute ftp installation
Hi Guys!
After i've installed the cute ftp program an error has occured - "Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Deleting the WinFileCache-.... didn't worked.
What should i do?
Thanks in advance for anyone.Does CuteFTP work on it's own when DW is closed?
I too, use CuteFTP in conjunction with DW and have for many years and have never had such a problem.
Are you doing anything specific in Cute FTP when DW crashes? -
Dreamweaver CS3 strange FTP problem
Helllo,
I have just passed from windows to Mac (I got Leopard) .... I
have installed Dreamweaver CS3
and I have imported all the site definition (like Host FTP,
username, password, etc...) from the windows version
But when I try to connect to any server, I recive this error
"An FTP error occured - cannot make connection to host
no response from the server this may be due to one or more
reasons:
- Accessing the server requires firewall settings that aren't
properly set. Please verify that the firewall settings in the Site
category of the Preferences dialog box are properly set, and that
the Use Firewall option in the Site definition dialog box is
selected.
- The server may be accepting only passive mode or only
active mode. Toggling the "Use Passive FTP" checkbox may help you
establish a connection.
- If you are connecting to an IPv6 enabled server, please
select "Use IPv6 transfer mode" checkbox in the Advanced site
definition dialog.
- Your local firewall may be blocking the incoming FTP data.
Please disable it to see if it makes a difference.
- It is possible your FTP may be using a non-standard FTP
port (21). If you need to specify a non-standard port, enter the
port number after host name separated by a colon":". "
I have tryed to use other FTP programs and I got mix results:
Cyber Duck and Fetch are working
Fugu and Filezilla for Mac do not connect to any server
I am clueless .... .... can someone give me a hand?
thanks in advanceAre you running a firewall?

Hi,
I am unable to connect to my remote server using my new copy
of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
When I test the FTP connection I get an error message
I can connect without problems to my remote server using
Microsoft Frontpage and the exact same FTP address, login, and
password - so it is not the server which is at fault
Things I have tried without success
My hosting company told me to either leave the host directory
box blank or put a / in it. Neither of these options work
I have tried retyping my login details carefully.
I have tried checking the ‘use passive FTP’ box
I have tried putting a colon and the port number after the
FTP address
I have tried writing the FTP address with and without the
ftp:// symbol
I have tried setting the FTP time out preferences at 60secs,
30 secs, 120 secs, 10 secs, and 5 secs
I am wondering what else to try, and how I can check whether
or not the software is being blocked by a firewall (in Norton for
example - my windows firewall is switched off) as I do remember
getting a message about this during the install. Or would it be a
good idea to uninstall and reinstall the software?
I would be most grateful for any further information or
advice.
Many thanks
Pippa> When I test the FTP connection I get an error message
What is the error message?
Here's my experience.
1. A firewall (any firewall, including but not restricted to
SP2) may be
blocking your attempts. It's best to completely disable them
while you are
troubleshooting this.
2. The FTP host field should usually always be filled in like
this -
''www.domain.com'' (without the quotes) and with NO leading
protocol (e.g.,
http:// or ftp://) (of course, you can always
use the IP address, too).
3. Enabling Passive FTP (usually the default for 3rd party
FTP programs) in
your Remote site definition can often be the gating factor in
a balky FTP
connection.
Make sure you use those guidelines and usually your
connection problem will
be solved.
By the way, if you find that #1 allows the connection to
proceed, then you
have to figure out what it is about your firewall that is
blocking
transmissions. CS3 allows you to fine tune firewall support
via the
Remote site definition, but you may also need to do a very
simple thing of
permitting CS3 to make outgoing connections in the Firewall
configuration.

Dreamweaver CS3 FTP Error: Cannot make connection to host
I have Windows Vista with a new purchase of Adobe Dreamweaver
CS3 Web Premium. I am a regular Dreamweaver user since version 2.
But this FTP situation still baffles me.
1. I have set up all my FTP parameters as usual and have
tried to use "Passive FTP" and the "Secure FTP" settings, but to no
avail
2. I tried to FTP via explorer and do have access to my
hosting service. The problem lies related to Dreamweaver itself.
3. I tried to check to see if my Windows Firewall would
affect it, but it is included in the firewall exception list.
I checked the other forum listings related to this problem,
and one of them mentions about the 60 second issue. I also checked
my site preferences and it is set to 60.
I don't want to use Cute FTP. I've been using Dreamweaver for
all these years and found it annoying to get another program just
for this. I am hoping to resolve this issue here on the forums so
that other Dreamweaver CS3 users can use FTP to upload their
site.http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14834

Does Dreamweaver CS3 support implicit ftp over TLS?
Does Dreamweaver CS3 support implicit ftp over TLS? I cannot find this option.
Ask in the Dreamweaver forum. This forum is for suite specific issues only.

Dreamweaver cs3 FTP Fault - Not connecting anymore
Hi,
I hope someone may know the cause of this wierd problem
My dreamweaver cs3 has just stopped connecting to server for
any of my sites
(i got over 100 sites and tried quite a few).
My other ftp program external to cwcs3 is fine and continues
to work. This
using the same connection settings as dwcs3 site profiles.
Nothing has
changed on my dwcs3 profiles but yestarday I had the daylight
saving problem
(and last year) where i had to delete the cache file as per
adobe tech doc.
DW no longer crashing but i think this ftp not connecting is
only since
yesterday.
I have also installed the various windows updates that came
out recently.
The other machines in the office continue to work fine. All
machines import
the same saved profiles, but if i remove the site profile and
reimport it
still dosent connect, but repeating this on another machine
works without a
problem.
All machines in this floor have Vista Business/ CS3 web suite
connecting to
a windows 2003 standard ed server running iis and
iis/microsoft ftp server.
Same result with windows firewall disabled. Only other
security app is NOD
anti-virus, again all machines are the same.
All i get is an error telling me to try passive etc, but i
know this isnt
the fault as the other machines with the same settings are
fine..
here is a copy of the ftp log after trying to connect,
selecting a file, and
selecting put.

dreamweavers built
in ftp with its feature 100%cpu usage. Even on my core 2
extreme 9000 cpu!!
Thanks for the links, but everything in them has been ruled
out. The issue
is clearly not a setting within dw. Its some sort of windows
firewall
corruption
Even running wf.msc (advanced win firewall config) provides
no clues

Dreamweaver CS3 Mac loses ftp info
When I close dreamweaver cs3 i lose all of my ftp login
information. it keeps the server and the folder information, but
drops all of the login information. I know this happened on CS2,
windows version, but hadn't experienced any trouble with it until
today (and i've been running dreamweaver CS3 mac for a year or so)
TylerHi. I am experiencing the very same problem. No issues for
years up until recently - but my problems started not long after I
installed the latest upgrade for Mac OS 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 - I am
going to use Time Machine to revert back to 10.5.4 it may not be
the answer, nor a long-term solution but it driving me nuts.
I am currently deleting sites out of my site manager and then
reloading them from the STE file everytime I need to work on them.
I have read that this problem existed in Dreamweaver 8 on Windows,
but an update sorted it out - lets hope an update appears soon to
fix this problem. -
Dreamweaver CS3 bug with templates?
Hello,
I am having a very major problem with a template. I am on
Dreamweaver CS3 and my template has been created in Dreamweaver 8
and it says in parenthesis (xhtml) - even though all my pages from
the template are html.
When I now make even the most minor change (even adding one
single letter) to my template or when I try to create a new page
from that template, the resulting pages have missing images (my
whole top banner), but the actual template looks perfect. You can
actually seean example of a page on a test website at
http://ww2.itrak.com/iTRAKnouveau/
I seem to remember I actually had this problem once before
and I did not have it in Dreamweaver 8 but I am not sure of my
recollection.
Unfortunately, this time I cannot access Dreamweaver 8
anymore... I am really hoping someone can solve this one with me!!

Dreamweaver CS3 FTP Issue on Mac
Background Info
My Mac laptop which I had been using perfectly fine for over a year with connecting via FTP in Dreamweaver headed off to the shop last week for an unrelated power issue. In its absence, I purchased a Mac Mini to continue with my design work. I used the migration assitant to replicate the exact settings of my laptop on my new desktop from a backup of the laptop. The fixed laptop was returned to me yesterday.
Issue
I went to upload some site changes I had made from my laptop and up pops the FTP error that there is no respnse from server (http://img.skitch.com/20090810-8muhscacixyxkuidwkc2yiimba.jpg). I tried again with the same result and just thought perhaps that sites server was down or similar. I moved on to another site and I get the same error, and with the third site, I decided it was an obvious pattern. I then decide to try uploading the files with the desktop that I had purchased, and it uploads without a hitch.
So any thoughts on why things would work as usual for the new desktop, but never connect (the FTP log is empty) on the laptop sitting right next to it?
Thanks for your help! Thanks Samantha for posting back a soution - I'm sure it will be helpful to others in the future :-)

Dreamweaver CS3 and Mac OS 10.4.11 Incompatability
I have been using Dreamweaver CS3 under OS 10.4.10 for a few
months without significant issues... but after upgrading to 10.4.11
there is a significant problem.
I am unable to access any of my remote servers to upload
files to the sites I have built.
I was able to reinstall Dreamweaver 8 and it works fine with
all the same setups
I've read a technote on a noted problem with Dreamweaver CS3
and Mac OS 10.5 - but it also appears to happen on 10.4.11
You can read the 10.5 technote here:
http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402780I have not experienced this problem. Try removing the DW CS3
preferences file in your Library and then let DW build a new one.
BTW, what error you are getting when you try to FTP?
