FTP Problem in Dreamweaver MX? Could it be because of DSL?

I'm just opening up Dreamweaver after quite a while and I can't access any of my websites. I can access just fine via Transmit (ftp program for OSX).. but Dreamweaver just says "An FTP error occurred".. even when I'm using the exact same host, username and password as I use in my FTP client. I googled the issue and one person said that maybe it was because he had DSL. I don't see how that would cause problems... but I don't know if I've used Dreamweaver since we switched to DSL from Cable. Any ideas?

  • FTP Problems with Dreamweaver 8

The webmaster for the library I work for recently had
difficulty with her computer. She did a system restore from her
discs, and, after that, reinstalled Dreamweaver 8. She sent me an
email to let me know she needed my assistance setting her DW FTP
    back up.
While her computer was down I decided to reorganize the
website files. There were dozens of old files and most of the
images and html were scattered throught the main part of the file
tree. She really liked the changes, but, after connecting her to
the site and downloading all the files, a problem arose.
Once she got her laptop back home every time she'd connect to
the FTP she got a group of folders named "Windows, Linux,
Speedtest" and a few others. I contacted our webhost and they told
me this meant she was logging in anonymously. We have our login
name and password in correctly, though, so this shouldn't happen.
No one at our ISP could help me do to them not being familiar with
    Dreamweaver.
After playing around with the machine a bit I found that if I
deleted the site from the FTP and re-did it using the same folders
then the first connection was succesful. But, after disconnecting,
    the same problem happens again.
I found this article and wondered if it could be causing our
    problem.
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=3491671c
The only thing that makes me think it might not be is the
fact that our login and password stays in the box, but, for some
reason, the FTP is connecting anonymously. Could her doing a
recovery have led to this? Maybe there's an update she needs to
apply that she didn't get after doing the recovery?

It's hard to know what kind of things happened with your
    moving stuff around
    outside of DW.
Suffice it to say that most FTP problems are router/firewall
    related. Does
    this help at all?

  • Dreamweaver 8 on INtel Mac ftp problems????

The basic setup: I have an emac, installed Dreamweaver 8 (actually the entire studio package), it works fine. I want to move our webpage to a new imac (intel). I've copied the files, installed Dreamweaver 8, done the set up for the site.
The problem is: I can't get the FTP connection to work. Whether I'm in the SIte Management section, the TEST part, or trying to connect (with the little electric plug icon), I get this message...a file activity window opens, "An FTP error occured -- Cannot make connection to host. Dreaweaver could not connect because the serve is down or not accepting connections."
Things I've tried: I've explored diligently the Adobe/Dreamweaver website.
I've deleted the Files for Dreamweaver, the web site files from the local host, I've tested the connection using other FTP methods (safari -- a test suggested by Adobe or FEtch); I read some of the posts here after searching for Dreamweaver/Intel items. The server is not down since I've been able to connect an upload from another computer; the computer does perform FTP using other methods...which I suppose I can do...but it makes an extra step.
    I"ve tried using Passive FTP or not; I've tried everything I can think of...or suggested by outside sources (adobe, an instructor who teaches Dreamweaver, the Apple forums here); I modified the Hard drive name to eliminate spaces;
I've come to the conclusion it is more an "Apple" issue rather than a Dreamweaver issue.
I'm using the Dreamweaver on an emac and it works flawlessly!! But I need to use the emac for other purposes and set up the website on the Intel imac...
The Question: Any ideas or solutions or something to try????
Thanks for any help, suggestions, ideas. Cathy (working in an elementary school computer lab...)

Yes--I've tried the "test" ftp address suggested by Dreamweaver; I've used fetch to connect as well as upload something.
I've connected to the server from another computer....
Thanks for trying but...the server seems to be functioning okay.

  • Problems with FTP connection in Dreamweaver 4

I hope someone can help me with the following:
Since recently I can only connect to the FTP host within
    Dreamweaver once a day.
I have two defined sites in my Dreamweaver 4 and before I
could connect several times a day both sites - no problem.
But now it connects once and then when either trying to
connect to the other defined site or perhaps a while later to the
first site again (where I connected well on the same day already) I
am getting the error message: 'FTP error - connection to the host
    cannot be madet'.
Basically it will now always only connect daily once.
Anyone any idea what is causing this?
    Many thanks for your help.

These issues are most often associated with your firewall.
    Please try
    disabling it altogether.

  • OT: FTP problems with DW? Mention the Dreamweaver version

    Hi all,
I request all of you to post the version of Dreamweaver when you post queries on FTP related issues. There were a number of bug fixes made in the 12.0.3 and 12.2 update, and it would be of value for the product team to know whether these fixes have helped resolve the problem, and any pending issues.
For users that have made it to these updates, use this post as a sounding board for problems you are still facing with FTP. Having these posts in one place will ensure that we have one link to capture this information.
Moderators and experts: Please request users for the version of DW when they post a query on FTP related issues.
    Thanks,
    Preran

What firewall do you use? I would sooner think a setting on a
    firewall got
changed somehow. I have had this happen to me from time to
    time even though
    I haven't changed anything myself.

  • Unable to connect to the remote ftp server using dreamweaver.

For the last one week I have been trying to connect to the remote ftp server using dreamweaver. I spoke to the technical support agency who manage our remote server but they are saying that there is no problem with the server adn they dont know anythign about dreamweaver so cant assist me.
I was suggested to check with adobe team directly and i spoke to a technical support person on the live chat but they said since the version is CS4 - education version, they cant assist me at all!! This is just ridiculous...I am constantly being sent from one place to the other without anything getting resolved!!
    Please help somebody!!

I am having a similar problem... maybe.  I was connected to my remote site all day yesterday, then out of the blue I tried to "put" an edited file... as I had been doing all day, and I received an FTP error:  Cannot make connection to host. Your login or password is incorrect.  That's odd, I've been connecting all day.  So I went into my sites > manage sites and clicked the Test button on my remote server information and it returned Adboe Dreamweaver CS connected to your webserver successfully.  I went back to my file and tried once more to "put" it on the remote server... again FTP Error: cannot make connect to host...  So I reboot my computer and start Dreamweaver CS3 again.  I reenter my remoter server information and click the Test button.  "... connect to your webserver successfully".  I try to put any file, FTP error again.  So I call my server administrator, he checks the servers logs and says there are no errors and you've connected successfully several times today.  I went through the trouble shooting steps listed here, though my FTP Logs are empty.  I cannot stay connected or even see the remote folders to try to drag and drop.  I tried to run ftp from a windows command prompt and it seems to connect me.
I downloaded an installed an SFTP client and was able to successfully connect to my remote server and upload the files.  It's definately a Dreamweaver problem.  Any suggestions?

  • Strange problem with Dreamweaver Pop-Up menus

    Hello:
I have encountered a very strange problem with DreamWeaver
pop-up menus, and I was wondering if I could get some help from
this forum, as I can't seem to find an answer anywhere else.
The problem involves use of DreamWeaver's pop-up menu
behavior — all works as expected, and my local preview of the
Web page/site works fine, but when I upload the site to a server, I
see extra question mark and "box" characters added to my drop-down
menus. This problem is inconsistent between browsers: Sometimes I
see it only on IE, sometimes I also see it on Firefox.
For example, check out the following URLs:
    http://libertycreativesolutions.net/clients/cci/
... this implementation of drop-down menus ("Services"
button, etc.) displays an extra "box" character for each of the
drop-down menu items, but this only occurs in IE -- Firefox is
    fine.
    http://libertycreativesolutions.net/clients/microtek/HTML/MicroTek_home.html
... this implementation of drop-down menus shows an extra
question mark above the triggering link onMouseOver for Firefox,
and in IE, it shows this "box" character for both the triggering
buttons and for each menu item.
For both of these sites, the pop-up menus work without a
problem *when I'm looking at a local version on my workstation*.
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is going on here????
Any help for this problem is appreciated.
Note that I stripped out the JavaScript code for menu
information from the <head></head> area of each of
these pages and placed it in a linked JavaScript document.
    HELP!

First, you need to read this, written by the person who
    adapted that menu
    code for Macromedia -

Then you need to know that there are MUCH better ways to do
    such things -
Check the uberlink and MacFly tutorials at PVII -

and the Navbar tutorial/articles at Thierry's place

  • Font problems with dreamweaver on Mac

Hi, i installed dreamweaver cs3 as a part of web premium
suite on intel mac os x 10.4.10. My international settings are set
to Turkish. There are some oddities with fonts. Dreamweaver font
list displays some fonts with CE suffix (Helvetica CE, Lucida
Grande CE ...) but these fonts are not installed on my computer.
How does dreamweaver displays these fonts? I checked the install
log and couldn't find where these fonts are located. Other
applications in the web premium package doesn't show these fonts.
Also, dreamweaver is having problems with Turkish characters
if I don't use these fonts. For example, I want to use default
operating system fonts Helvetica or Lucida Grande (which have
Turkish character support and works fine with Adobe Photoshop CS3
and Illustrator CS3) in css font family but Dreamweaver can not
display Turkish characters with these fonts. If I use Helvetica CE
instead of Helvetica, Turkish characters are displayed without any
problem but this is not an option because most people have
Helvetica (not Helvetica CE). Previously I was using Dreamweaver MX
2004 on windows and didn't have any problems with Turkish
    characters.

    Update,
I have this type of code in the old pages on my body text I'm guessing it's because in most of my pages i.e. old dreamweaver mx days I've selected the text and formatted with the property inspector instead of css by mistake.
      <p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">text eh?
    </font></p>
But I want them like this so i can change it all with css vs manually.
        <p>text eh?</p>
So I've followed your advice and searched and replaced the former with the later on the dreamweaver template page and on a few individual pages, hoping that will allow me to eventually use css to adjust it all.
I am very very tempted to do a global search and replace with changing
    this   <p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">
    to this <p>
    and this </font></p>
    to this </p>
but I'm kinda worried if I don't do each page manually and test each one, all 148 pages, oh joy, and check something it  could bork my site in ways i'll take forever to find out and fix. Am I correct in worrying about this?

Not sure if this is a Fireworks or Dreamweaver problem but
    here goes.<BR>
I&#8217;ve created a graphic in Fireworks CS3 on the Mac
    and Exported the H=
TML and related images. I open the HTML file in Dreamweaver
    CS3, all fine so=
far. Then I highlight the table and click the
    &#8216;Edit in Fireworks&#821=
7; button and it throws up a warning dialogue saying
    &#8216;Cannot launch an=
d edit. The Fireworks table could not be found in the HTML.
    Please export fr=
om Fireworks and re-import the HTML into
    Dreamweaver.&#8217;<BR>
    What?!!<BR>
I&#8217;ve only just exported it from Fireworks!
    It&#8217;s even got the Fi=
reworks table code in the Code section, so what&#8217;s
    going here?<BR>
    <BR>
    Has anyone else had this?<BR>

    charset="ISO-8859-1"
    Content-transfer-encoding: 8bit
When you export the sliced graphics from Fireworks it places
    them into a
table. In my instance the code says...
    <!-- fwtable fwsrc="Brands.png" fwpage="Page 1"
    fwbase="Brands.jpg"
    fwstyle="Dreamweaver" fwdocid = "325827661" fwnested="0"
    -->
So it recognises Fireworks was the the graphics app and jumps
    back to it
when you want to edit the image. Fireworks then displays (or
    should) a
ŒDone¹ button over the window. You do your alts and
    press Done to update the
HTML and graphics back in Dreamweaver automatically.
That¹s the only table I was referring to Murray.

  • Problems in Dreamweaver with cut-and-paste

    Hi there.
I wondered if someone could help with a small problem within
Dreamweaver CS4. If I have two different CSS style sheets open, and
I highlight a certain section of one CSS stylesheet to take the
rule to another CSS stylesheet, for some unknown reason as soon as
I do "copy" the whole of the stylesheet is highlighted, the only
way I can stop this from happening is to double-click on the "code"
button at the top left-hand side of the Dreamweaver window. Is
there any other way to stop this from happening. I am running
Dreamweaver CS4 on the windows Vista platform.
Thank you for reading this post and for any help you may be
    able to give.
    Regards, John.

    Hoorah!
At last - someone else with the same problem!
I have been leaving messages on here for ages to try to get some response from Adobe. Someone kindly suggested getting rid of the preferences folder, but that didn't solve the problem.
I think its something wrong with Dreamweaver CS4. I have reverted back to CS3 until they come up with an upgrade!
Out of interest does this happen straight away or after a period of time? I found if you quit Dreamweaver and restart it usually its ok for a while.
Do you also have the same problem editing the code? I find I can't put the cursor anywhere WITHIN a chunk of PHP. The cursor highlights the whole lot. I have to click all over the place until it eventually works as normal - or I have to quit Dreamweaver and start again.
Are you using a Mac too?
    Regards
    Colin

  • FTP Bug in dreamweaver 5.5

I just upgraded to DW 5.5 included in my master collection, I'm connecting to FTP no problem, but I'm unable to upload to the ROOT folder only.
I can upload to any other folder, for example, images in the assets, swf in the flash folder etc.
Premission are correct, godaddy hosting upper tier support thought they fixed a rare problem on there end.
Turns out they can upload to the root folder on there end but not on mine through dreamweaver 5.5. FTP
Any else have this problem and know how to fix it? Fillezilla is my only option right now.
    Big thanks.

Yet another GoDaddy/DW ftp problem... Since DW works pretty well with everything BUT GoDaddy, I keep saying this is a GoDaddy problem.
They may be the biggest, but that CERTAINLY doesn't mean they're the best.

  • FTP Error in Dreamweaver (mac)

I have a site that I can connect to on my Dreamweaver/Windows, but not on Dreamweaver/Mac.
I have the settings identical as far as I can tell and it immediately gives me an error that says:
An FTP error occured - cannot make conection to host.
No response from server. This may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
    -Proxy... etc...
    -Use Passive... etc...
    -IPV6.... etc...
    -Firewall etc...
    -Port 21 etc...
None of these apply except for Passive and I have set it both ways with no joy.
I can use FTP from Firefox on my Mac with the same settings and it works fine.
    Kirk

    Fixed.
I am using Dreamweaver CS5.5 on Snow Leopard and am having the same FTP problems.
After  trying to uninstall and reintall Dreamweaver CS5.5 with no luck I was  able to solve my issue by leaving the "Root Directory" field of the FTP  server configuration BLANK.
My hosting provider (justhost)  allows you to specify the FTP path when you create a FTP accounts. That  is where I specify the "root dir" path and not in DW ftp server config.

  • Problem with dreamweaver and Flash

Hi, maybe someone can help me, i have any problem with
dreamweaver and flash, i have a page and i have a menu and
    sub-menu, and the same page i have a category en flash 550 x 700 (
photography and more... ) but when the menu to unfold
the menu to see under flash and it cant see ( sorry my
english is bad.... i hope you can understand me, and help me.. )
i dont now why always flash ever stay up, or first, and
another information under flash... this a problem... if you have
    menus...
    thanks.... have nice day.....

This is a drawback of using flash or any other active
content. By default, all active content including flash will
display over every other content and thats why your menu stays
under the flash movie. Some people make the flash background
transparent to show content under the flash movie, but that will
    not work for menu items.
I would suggest that you make the menu such that it does not
    overlap with the flash movie.
