  • First time with Oracle XML database

    Hi!
    I'm a beginner with XML and with Oracle XML database so i need same help. I've read the documentation (example for XML Oracle).
    What do i need to write XML files from an oracle database and the other way to read XML files into the database?
    Or does anyone know how i can get information about this?
    Thank's for help!
    With best regards
    Nicole

    Nicole,
    One quick way to get xml out of the database is to use the dbms_xmlgen.getXML package.
    i.e. in sqlplus
    set long 4000
    select dbms_xmlgen.getxml('select * from emp') from dual;
    or
    set long 4000
    select dbms_xmlgen.getxml('select column_name from owner.tablename') from dual;

  • How can I send files by FTP with Oracle Portal?

    I want to send some file by FTP.
    How can I send files by FTP with Oracle Portal?
    Any ideas?

    Enrique,
    Are you trying to transfer more content from remote locations to expose as items within a portal page? By itself, the Oracle Portal runs within the context of the database so I'm not sure how FTP at the OS level will help. However, if you're attempting to transfer files from a remote PC to upload within the Portal, here are a couple of suggestions.
    Option 1:
    A. Create a portal page.
    B. Convert a region to Items.
    C. When you're challenged to upload a file from the local OS, ensure you've a drive mapped to your remote location and pick the file to upload into the Oracle9iAS Portal.
    Option 2:
    Alternatively, the Oracle9iAS Portal 9.0.2 supports the WebDAV protocol(Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning Protocol) allowing endusers with a WebDAV client to upload content into the Portal seamlessly from their desktop.
    Pls. check out:

  • Nls support with oracle xml parser in java

    I'm using The JAXP interface to manipulate xml with xsl. the implementation that I use is Oracle xml parser.
    My xml contains a lot of hebrew chars, and in the result stream each char translated into 5-6 chars, which makes the result to be 5-6 times bigger than it suppose to be, and harder for me to debug my application.
    The client's browser shows the results well.
    How can I make the transformator to transform the hebrew chars to hebrew char istead of longer and not readable string ?

  • XML parsing problems with Oracle XML parser for PL/SQL

    I am using the Oracle XML parser for PL/SQL to transform XML into HTML usign XSL. The parser gives me sporadic errors trying to parse various XML documents. For the same XML source, the XMLPARSER will parse without errors one day and the next day will give me errors such as "invalid char in text", "Expected ';'.", or even Java null pointer exceptions.
    I have verified that the XML sources are well formed, so I am pretty certain that the problems I am having are bugs in the XMLPARSER.
    Is there going to be a XML parser for PL/SQL version 2 that will fix these bugs? If so, when??? If not, is there anything else I could do to fix these problems?
    Thanks!

    You can use the latest version.

  • Securing FTPS with Oracle WSM gateway (10g)

    Does anyone know whether it is possible to secure FTPS traffic using the OWSM gateway (10g)
    I have a service which is sending encrypted files into our system using FTPS and we would like to check and decrypt the files before we persist them on the FTP server. Is it possible to use the OWSM gateway to authenticate and decrypt the files in a DMZ before processing them any further?
    Please note that I understand that 11g does not currently have a gateway and we are not looking to upgrade and therefore 10g OWSM gateway is an option for us.

    Yes, true,
    I was assuming a firewall protecting internal zone is part of DMZ setup, and infrastructure is on 10g, and owsm gateway, according to initial poster.
    Protecting the internal URL, only allowing gateway requests to pass through would require the requesthandler (service URL) to look into the request.
    What we did was to let the owsm gateway do the authentication/authorization, and adding a policy step to "insert SAML".
    So the client request contains a valid username/password to be authenticated towards LDAP. After authZ an additional SAML header is added, containing a magic token known only to owsm gateway, and internal requesthandler, processing the service URL request.
    If the request did not pass through gateway it will not contain the saml magic token, and thus be rejected by requesthandler.
    11g has some improvements when it comes to protection using agents, but as long as the weaknesses are not covered (lack of gw-functionality) it would be wise to handle this in current infrastructure.
    Suggesting a switch to 11g infrastructure to solve his issue is a bit over the top., switching the entire SOA infrastructure is not something done overnight.

  • Does Oracle XML parser support scripts?

    I've tried using scripts in my XSL which I parse with Oracle XML parser v2. If the function does not exist, I get error. But if the function exists, I get nothing at all on the output! Not even simple function that only returns a string.
    I also have the same problems with <xsl:eval>.
    Thank you for reading this,
    David.

    We fully support the XSLT 1.0 Recommendation.
    <xsl:eval> and <xsl:script>
    are not features of the XSLT standard.

  • Fatal Error and NullPointerException in Oracle XML Transformer

    Hi,
    I'm building a dom tree in memory with oracle xml parser. Then I transform the dom document into a string to send xml to the client. But I get an fatal error on calling transform.
    I don't know what could be the problem, because apache and weblogic parser works, an when I create a dom document with org.w3c.dom elements and statements then the xml document can't be invalid,
    because the document implementation would throw an exception if wrong nodes or something like this should be inserted...

  • Problem with loading XML file from directory.

    Hello everyone.
    *1)* I have directory defined by DBA. I have read, write privileges. I can read file from this directory using UTL_FILE, I can create file in this directory using UTL_FILE. I tried many times and it does not seem to be any problems.
    *2)* I have very simple XML table (with just one column of xmltype). I can insert into this column using:

    *3)* When executing
    insert into temp_xml values (

    *4)* Previously I was receiving more descriptive errors like permission denied, file not exists etc. This time there is no clear description apart from "file or LOB operation %s failed\n%s". I'm sure I can access this file in this directory (I used UTL_FILE to dbms_output the content).
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Marcin,
    Welcome to the forums.
    One very important thing with Oracle XML : please always give your database version, all four digits (e.g. 10.2.0.4).
    Does the directory resides on the same machine as the database? Which OS?
    Does any of the following work ?
    DECLARE
       v_lob   CLOB;
       v_file  BFILE;
    BEGIN
       v_file := BFILENAME('XML_LOCATION','sample.xml');
       DBMS_LOB.createtemporary(v_lob, true);
       DBMS_LOB.fileopen(v_file);
       DBMS_LOB.loadfromfile(v_lob, v_file, DBMS_LOB.getlength(v_file));
       INSERT INTO temp_xml VALUES( xmltype(v_lob) );
       DBMS_LOB.fileclose(v_file);
       DBMS_LOB.freetemporary(v_lob);
    END;
    DECLARE
       v_lob   CLOB;
    BEGIN
       v_lob := DBMS_XSLPROCESSOR.read2clob('XML_LOCATION', 'sample.xml', nls_charset_id('AL16UTF8'));
       INSERT INTO temp_xml VALUES( xmltype(v_lob) );

  • Oracle XML parser and IBM jdk bug

    Hello,
    From a few messages found in the XML forum it seems that IBM jvm could cause problems with oracle XML parser. ( see http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum11/HTML/003823.html )
    I am using IBM jvm (jdk 1.3) on a linux box, and problems are starting to arise:
    I have
    - 1 BC4J based jsp app which works fine.
    - 2 XML parsing BC4J apps which cause strange errors (like parsing 40 documents fine and failing on the 41st for no apparent reason)
    Hopefully, Steven Muench provided precious advice on this (basically, disabling the JIT), however some issues are still open:
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>You should file a bug with IBM to get this fixed, using your stylesheet as a testcase. Lots of people have hit this problem.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    Has anyone (from oracle or else) done this yet? I have gone (quickly) through IBM website but I didn't find any bug report utility or the like...
    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Disable your JIT compiler (or switch JVM's) and you won't have the error.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    Turning off the JIT indeed made the errors vanish, thanks a lot for the tip!
    I have a few more questions though :
    * As the BC4J framework uses the xml parser, It is fairly possible that the ibm jvm bug will affect it...
    I haven't had any problems (yet?) with the BC4J part of my applications, but I'm a bit concerned about having random bugs lurking around (I have more than enough of my own :) )
    Has anyone stumbled upon IBM JVM vs oracle parser issues in BC4J? (oracle.xml.parser.v2.XXXXXX exceptions...)
    * If BC4J is indeed affected, what's the solution?
    - Disable the JIT? (And forget about performance?... hmmm... no)
    - Switch parsers? (oracle parser is too tightly integrated in the BC4J Framework isn't it?.. hmm... not possible either)
    - Wait for a patch from IBM (and use another one in the meantime) / switch JVM :
    In either case, I'd really like to know what is the JVM that oracle people use / would advise.
    Thanks for your help

    For those interested,
    last week i reported this bug in the ibm jvm news forum.
    They said that the problem had been investigated and would be fixed in their next service release.
    FYI: the current release (SR7, labeled "build cx130-20010329) still has various problems wih oracle XML parser.

    [from XmlRpc-Java]
    As a result, my XML
    is contained in a String instead of an InputStream.
    It is possible to convert a String to an InputStream using
    StringBufferInputStream, but this class is deprecated in favor of
    StringReader (as StringBufferInputStream does not properly convert
    characters into bytes).
    For the default HTTP transport, an InputStreamReader could be used to
    wrap the InputStream before calling parse().
    Ultimately, the InputStream is converted to an InputSource for use by
    the SAX parser. InputSource will accept a Reader as well.
    [from XmlRpc-Java]
    There should be a way to go from "getXMLString()" to "parse(Reader)" also. In the meantime I'm stuck.

  • OracleApps Adapter VS Oracle XML Gateway

    Can any one tell me difference between Interconnect Oracle Apps adapter and Oracle XML Gateway. I am not familiar with Oracle XML gateway tool. I wonder if i could use XML Gateway comes with Interconnect Oracle Apps adapter instead of the product Oracle XML Gateway.

    Hi,
    I am also having one question relating to this thread.
    We are using Oracle Applications 11.5.10.
    We have a Business Requirement to send Approved Purchased Orders to Supplier in XML format.
    We have made all the required setup to generate the PO in XML format using XML Gateway, which places the XML message in a queue.
    Our design expert has suggested us to use Oracle Applications Interconnect for sending the message to the supplier through AQ adapter (From Oracle Apps to Interconnect) and HTTP adapter (from Interconnect to supplier).
    As per my knowledge (read in Oracle documentation) this can be done using Oracle Transport Agent (OTA), which comes with Oracle XML Gateway and also I believe that OTA is tightly integrated with Oracle XML gateway and we can easily track the status of the message.
    When contacted our design expert he told that there are some advantages of using Interconnect but I didn't understand his argument well, may be because I am very much new to using Oracle Interconnect.
    I will be grateful if somebody could tell me, how advantageous is using Interconnect over Oracle Transport Agent (OTA) (please note we are not doing any modifications to the message generated by XML gateway, we are transferring as it is).
    Thanks in Advance,
    Thiru
