Function keys on new wired keyboard for old iMac don't workdon't work

Apple replaced my original wired keyboard when keys had stopped working, but with the new wired keyboard the function keys don't work as the symbols on them indicate. My concern is F10-F12 which are supposed to control volume. F10 shows all open windows; F11 romoves open windowns from screen; F12 shows ttime, date, temperature, etc, like the top button on the mouse. I have tried suggested ways to fix this through System Preferences, Keyboard/Mouse but none works.
Can anyone solve this problem for me?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You don't need Leopard to use that keyboard. Go to  menu > Software Update and update your iMac to 10.4.10. Then download and this keyboard update (link).
The keyboard is not a powered hub and so won't play nicely with all devices. On Alu iMacs the USB ports are higher power and so is the keyboard. I've yet to find a device that won't work on the Alu keyboard on the Alu iMac.

How do I assign brightness to function keys on new apple Keyboard in 10.3.9 using spark v2.1.1?

Following on from my recent post regarding the new apple wired keyboard after very helpful feedback from people who responded to my post I decided to take the leap and purchase it! Good news is that I am really happy with it and am glad that I got it! Much nicer then old apple keyboard that I was using.
I also downloaded spark v. 2.1.1 which has enabled me to change the functions of Fkeys to enable to play, pause, etc... in itunes in accordance with the keyboard layout. However, there are two functions that I am having difficulty assigning which are the F1 and F2 keys which allow the decrease and increase of screen brightness. Does anyone know how to do this? So that I can control my screen brightness using these keys.
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated

I don't have a screen that can be dimmed or brightened, but does Increase/Decrease show up as an option here...
If not, use the AppleScript one to execute a Script...

NOTE - the only difference between the two scripts is the last number
which is either 0 or 1. You can also specify a number between 0 & 1. For

Is there a way to Change the Function keys on a bluetooth keyboard for ipad

I just got kensington wireless keyboard for my ipad 2 but the program that i am using dosent allow me to use the function keys instead for volume, brightness ect.

I have had to explain often that no pressure is needed. It's a "touch" screen, not a "press" screen. Most people believe they have to push down hard to make some sort of contact.

New aluminum keyboard for 24" iMac-10-key numbers not working??

I've got a new 24" intel aluminum iMac I've only had for 2 weeks.
Just today, the 10-key number pad stopped working & my programs froze up with no response from the might mouse plugged into the USB port on the keyboard.
The keyboard viewer shows all of the keys being recognized & Apple Hardware Test showed no issues.
I re-booted several times, did a permission repair & ran MacJanitor & when I rebooted again, I don't get any freeze-ups so far, but I do not have the function of the 10-key portion of my new aluminum iMac keyboard.
Very strange, but it does seem to be software related.
Something of interest: Only the 789-456+1230.enter keys are not working. Those above the 789 are working fine.
And to re-iterate, the keys are all being recognized by the keyboard viewer onscreen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't end up taking it in - I created a new user account & there were no problems with my keyboard.
I transferred my home folder to the new account & started basically fresh.
I guess my old user account was corrupted or messed up somehow.
I have done this once before on my 1book g4 laptop & it also worked.
Thanks for the suggestion, I was getting ready to pack it up for a trip to the Apple Store & remembered to try this at the last minute!

New wired keyboard, swapped key functionality?

I just replaced my keyboard for my iMac Intel Core Duo 10.6.8, 2GHz with the standard wired one. The aluminum keyboard is v 0.74, Apple made. The orignal died.
I used a Dell board for a bit, and used Sys Prefs > Keyboard to swap the OPT & CMD keys. Now I have a new wired Apple keyboard, and the system won't recognize it as an Apple board, and the OPT / CMD keys will not return to heir original roles.
I did these things:
1) sys prefs: reset default for keyboard command keys
2) sys prefs: swapped OPT & CMD key functions, didn't respond.
3) repaired disk permissions
I don't know what to toss as preferences that will influence the keyboard.
Any suggestions, please?

thanks, but it didn't change anything.
I've also tried restarting after removing the system preference .plist as well as the keyboard layout .plist. Neither of these worked.
I tried swapping out the keyboard and mouse with a friend's and that did not change anything.
I've updated all OS software and repaired all permissions using Disk Utility.
Perhaps something is creating a conflict, but I haven't a clue as to what at this point.

I don't think that will do the trick, at least not by itself, if the post date is anything to go by (2007).
The specs for the latest Apple Extended keyboard clearly say it requires 10.6.8, so the answer is to run the 10.6.8 combo.

Using new wired keyboard (w/o numeric keypad) with Windows Vista

I have a 2008 Mac Pro and a Windows PC. They share the same monitor, keyboard and mouse via a KVM switch (I use the Belkin Flip DVI-D KVM Switch, model F1DG102D). My keyboard is the Apple wired keyboard with numeric keypad, which works fine with my Windows Vista PC, even with no Apple-specific Windows driver installed. My keyboard tray is pretty small, so I would like to get the new Apple wired keyboard which doesn't have a numeric keypad. I don't need the numeric keypad anyway. However, I will miss the home, end, page up, page down, and forward delete buttons. The Mac Pro has a way of simulating these keys. However, the key combinations to simulate these keys don't work in Windows Vista. My question is: how do I simulate these keys from Windows Vista? My guess is that possible options are:
1. Use some Vista keyboard mapping software. If so, any idea what might work?
OR
2. Use Apple's keyboard driver for Windows Vista (32-bit). The keyboard comes with boot camp, but I don't use boot camp (since I have a separate Windows PC). How do I go about getting a standalone Apple keyboard driver without having to install boot camp?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a similar problem but it seems there is no solution. The new wired keyboard is not event working properly with BOOTCAMP. Vista doesn't recognize the keyboard as Apple keyboard and even forcing the device manager to use the Apple keyboard driver is not working.

Did you check the long verticle silver button on the left side of the phone? It is above the + & - Keys. If it is pushed down, you will have no volume. THis is a key to quickly shut off the volume if you forgot to trun it down during a meeting, funeral, etc. If that is okay, go into settings and see if volume is turned on. "vibrate" is no longer an option by itsself.

Sticking keys on new wireless keyboard

I just got a brand new wireless keyboard for my laptop. The S and A keys stick now and then and leave a loooooong trail of s's or a's across my screen. Any idea what is going on here?
I also seem to loose connection now and then, could that have to do with the line of 'sight' between the laptop and the keyboard? I have the keyboard on a pull out tray, and it seems to happen when the keyboard gets to far under the actual desk. Where is the bluetooth 'antenna' or whatever it is?

and one more question! both the wireless mouse and the keyboard got set up fine and they connect (although the keyboard looses connections now and then), but when go to Preferences and click on Setup Bluetooth keyboard, it can't find it. Same thing happens with the mouse. Or it says that it can't find it.. when I"m actually using the wireless mouse. So it' wrong. Any idea what is going on there?

I have always been a fan of these. Well built , solid and workflow helpful.
This new cool slimline design is awesome as well.
I would not have changed from my CS4-5 logic keyboard except I am so pleased with new timeline trim functions and keyboard shortcuts in CS6 that I was compelled to upgrade to the new keyboard.
I am even now...progressively re customising my keyboard preferences more in favour of the Default CS6 ones where as initially I was customising my CS5 based set up to work with CS6.
Well done Adobe.
Changes to "Trimming in the sequence" has been my main highlight in CS6.
Hover Scrub is another valued but lesser highlight.
Speedgrade ...I am waiting to get excited there!

You need to set your keyboard layout in windows to UK/US to use this keyboard, right? I am in Denmark, and need the special characters once in a while, but I guess I can use the character map commands to punch them in when needed.

I have been updating my PSE since 10. Recently I purchased PSE13 as I didn't see an update for my 12. I was changing to a new laptop as my old laptop had been patched and worked and was showing signs of giving out. It was a Window's 7OS. My new one is a Windows 8 OS so I bought the 13 and downloaded it on the new laptop. Our desktop had died so I downloaded the 13 on the new desk computer also. Not thinking I downloaded 13 on my old laptop as I hope to get it patched up enough to be a backup for my photography. When I tried to activate it I realized that I had downloaded it too often. I didn't know you could only use it on two computers. Learn something new every day.. Any way I removed it and now my PSE 12 does not seem to be working. Now it could be something that I did or something that is an issue with the laptop. this laptop has all the previous editions on board as I always tried to update, except for the year I got a really good deal on Black Friday. I also notice that the new laptop has a copy of PSE 12 in the program list. To my knowledge I have never deactivated any of my PSE's except the extra 13 downloaded. Bottom line, do I need to go in and deactivate previous PSE versions and removed them from my computer? I could certainly use the space and secondly, can I deactivate the PSE 12 and then go back and reacitivate it and install it again on the old laptop or the desktop, whichever I deside would be the most appropriate place for the newer program. For the PSE 12 since it is an updater for 11, does the 11 still need to be on the laptop? thanks for anyone who can understand what I am trying to say and can advise me as to my next move. Map Function Keys on a Windows Keyboard

Is there a way I can map/edit the function keys on my Windows keyboard? I want to create a quick shortcut to assign one of my function keys to be able to move a file to the trash can.

Nevermind. The keyboard shortcut menu in preferences works. The problem was that I typed "Move to trash" instead of "Move to Trash"

New search criteria for old (standard) node?

Is it possible to create script, which adds new search criteria for old (standard) node?
CustomSearchExtensionHandler.jsx gives example of custom search criteria for custom node. But it is not clear for me, how to add new search criteria over standard XMP fields.

First you create your own table (with fields like Vendor No and Name), in which you wants to store your Value range for that Vendor and fill this table with all the values for that vendor(your own set of values).
Using this table create an Elementary search Help from SE11 and you can use that search help for the Vendor field where ever you use.
This works fine.
