Fuzzy Type

Hi, I am using Dreamweaver MX to create webpages. I have a
user who is complaining that the type is fuzzy. The user is using a
screen resolution of 800 x 600. We have looked at webpages where
they say the type is sharp and I think its the same as what my
pages look like.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Here is a sample please give me your feedback --

In the beginning, it can look fuzzy. The fonts are also a
zillion times
better looking in my estimation. But it did take a bit of
getting used to.
Another thing is that Clear Type that's not adjusted right is
horrible. MS
makes an online Clear Type Tuner:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearType/tuner/Step1.aspx
And also a PowerToy you can download and use:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypePowerToy.mspx
It can make a big difference!

  • Large file size and fuzzy type

I'm new at using FCE2 and composed my first short 4 minute video. It includes a still image, a PSD layered file which I discovered was quite handy, a few clips and type using the type generator. I exported it to QuickTime movie. Three observations: I was floored by the nearly 1GB size, fuzzy type, and the file on the hard drive says it's a FCE movie inclusive of the little FCE icon by the file name. I was expecting to see a QuickTime icon with file name and the type of file is a QuickTime movie. Is all this normal? I'm very disappointed in the fuzzy type. Oh, also, the still image became blurry. Why?? Just so you know, the still image was a special file 640x480 with a pixel aspect ratio of D4/D16 Anamorphic
I saved the project under a new name and redid it taking out the Photoshop image, removing it from the bin also, and the new movie exported even larger, over a gig in size. Huh??

Thanks for the reply Tom. After I posted the first time I went to the Finder, Get Info, and I saw that I could change the 'Opens with' to QuickTime and therefore it became a QuickTime file. About that Anamorphic business I read a 'how to' on dealing with images before bringing them into video. The tip says in the 'New' file dialogue box to choose 640x480 size and in the pull down menu at the bottom where you can choose the 'Pixel Aspect Ratio' it was suggest to use that Anamorphic setting. I did it but it certainly didn't look right but I went with it.
Again after I posted I looked at the Format of one of the clips and saw the size to be 720x480, Compressor is DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, Pixel Aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601, Anamorphic field is blank. I'm running Photoshop CS2. So I went back there and created a new blank file to use a template for dealing with stills but this time I used the Preset pull down menu and chose NTSC DV 720x480 with guides and the Pixel Aspect Ratio automatically loaded D1/DV NTSC (0.9), clicked Ok and viola, the blank file looks exactly like the Canvas in FCE. I haven't played with a still with this new setting but I will try it on the little project I'm working on.
As for viewing it, I am looking at it on my Mac flat screen. I went into QuickTime Preferences and checked the box for high quality, thank you. Thanks for reassuring me on the file size.
I also don't know what "D4/D16 Anamorphic" means.
I don't understand the fuzzy type. I'm aware these are 72 ppi files and video is not resolution dependent but rather pixel dependent. Computer monitors display at 72 ppi, televisions are higher. I have yet to complete the process of burning a DVD and playing it back on a TV. Maybe that's where I'll see the type showing up sharper.
At any rate, just dealing with this itty bitty project tells me I have a lot to learn about video, never mind learning about how to use FCE as well.

  • Bevel button and fuzzy type

I made a button and put a simple bevel filter on it.
When I added type to the button the text bleeds into the
filter. How can I stop/fix this?

  • Endless fuzzy type issue

I still am having trouble with fuzzy type SOMETIMES after 3
YEARS of screwing around with that kind of thing. Generally I can
fix it by "break apart" or next frame F7 and type the same thing
all over again, but dont always want to do that. copy/paste is no
fix either. These are buttons or type that is good on the first
frame, but then inexplicably the next frame is different. I have
always put my type on whole number coordinates. I use static text.
In case you want to see,
    http://www.stevez.biz/foto_fun/salvage/qc.html
page 3 or 4 this starts to happen with "next" & "back"
    BUTTONS this time.
Makes me afraid to try something new or even use words!
    Thanks anyone
    Flash 7 mac osx.4.10

device fonts are 'standard' fonts that are available in most
browsers, this way the font doesn't have to be brought with, taking
up space in the file. so I would say to use a different font that
you like (non-device), it won't take up to much space, and since
you fields are static you don't even need to 'embed' and the font
will be rendered upon publishing. using 'anti-alias for
readability' the font should look sharp all through the dock.
The problem probably has something to do with the internal
font rendering scripts, and I've heard of some other problems with
    this before.

  • Fuzzy type for 2 years now

I've been fighting fuzzy type for 2 years now on buttons
especially. They are static text, perfectly on even coordinates,
anti alias off (the sharper way). Certainly others must know the
final answer on this by now? Please
Flash 7 Every button is made the same way; sometimes they are
fine, other times not. Today not:
    http://www.stevez.biz/foto_fun/fotofun.htm
Why is this typing box so tiny, can only see 2 lines at a
    time.

There is no such option as "anti alias off" in flash when
    comes to export.
This is only for authoring time preference of VIEW, not
    publish setting.
The buttons are clearly due to uneven coordinates. It does
    not matter that
the text is placed on even cords, the button that holds it
    has to be too.

  • Fuzzy type for 3 years now

Even tho I have made a zillion buttons, SOMETIMES the type is
    fuzzy.
In this example, each button is made from another, they all
have the same original type coordinates, and then the buttons are
on even coordinates, and then the movie clip is on even coordinates
    (whole number integers).
Yet some buttons are fuzzy. What can I do?
flash 9, flash MX, OSX etc

  • That fuzzy type thing again

I am using the same phrase on every frame, but as the show
goes on, the type suddenly gets fuzzy. Even if I retype it in
place. Even if i copy, paste-in-place from a good one. All this
type is on even coordinates. Static type, anti-alias off (the
sharper way), 9 points, verdana, not device fonts. Flash 7 OSX
This has bugged me for 2 years.

I got a temporary solution in "break apart", but is that the
    proper routine?

  • "fuzzy" type over image

    I am running InDd CS4.
When I put type on top of an image, it looks crisp. But, if I apply an effect to that image (lower opacity, multiply, etc), they type gets rough around the edges.
Anyone know why this is? I think it only started happening recently.
    Thanks!

    Screen effect.
    Does it print that way?
In any case, images with effects should be on a layer below the type to help prevent any output issues with type.

  • Type fuzzy when brought into FCE

I have searched through many many questions and responses about the "fuzzy/blurry" type syndrome of LT going into FC/FCE. I have tried MANY MANY of the suggestions and I still get the fuzzy type.
I really hate to bother you folks but can anyone get me straight on this?
    My usual practice:
    Create title w/effects
    Save file
Render file (In preferences I've tried all kinds of various settings. CCIR 601NTSC40:27, NTSC 4:3/Upper, Lower filed dom./reduced opacity type/different font styles, colors)
    I export LTfile
I open FCE and import that movie file
I play within FCE and even after I export the final FCE to aQT movie and then to iDVD, the titling looks fuzzy on tv.
Thanks for any help. Signed, VERY FRUSTATED.

The alpha channel defines your area of transparency, it's what allows your graphic/image to exist as a cut-out as opposed to an element existing with a background.
The reason I mention Live Type graphics are all rendered in animation with million+ is so you know that you can just render them in its default render mode and don't have to change quicktime setting.
Sometimes when people export and change the QT setting they don't change it to the highest setting and end up creating a graphic with a lower quality than the one they originally created. So for instance if you rendered a movie and then decided to export the movie, you would want to change the compression Type to Animation and the Compressor Quality to Best. Folks who don't do this can create graphics that are fuzzy.
I'm not sure if FCE can use the .ipr files that Live Type creates but if so that's the best way to get your graphics from LT. Simply create them in LT save them and import them into your FCE project.

  • Fuzzy Logic for string comparison

    Hi All
Thanks for taking the time to read the thread.
I was wondering if any of you has come accross an algorithim to compare two different strings (or find patterns or degree of similarity) between these strings - Fuzzy type logic
The reason I ask is because some of our duplicate invoices are created because the poster miss-enters the reference number - e.g. 1234A and 1234B. We would like to report invoices based on the similarity of the reference number.
I have heard of the Fisher Wagner algorithm that calculates the cost of the differences (based on whether a character is added / omitted or changed) and the Perl algorithm - which finds patterns based on the degree of similarity; but not sure how they are implemented in ABAP or where I can find the open source code
    Your help is very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mamdouh

There are a few function modules provided by SAP which seem to be for fuzzy searches.  ( Look at SE37 ).  For classes, again, there are a few: look in table SEOCOMPO with CMPNAME = *FUZZY* to find the classes and methods.
These may give you what you need.

  • Text Query Search

    Hi all,
I'm trying to find the best way to search a database for titles that are made up of concatenated words. Example "THECATINTHEHAT", if I wanted to find the word "Cat" what would be the best operator to use. In the past, I've used "like". I would like to move away from like and use an "about" or "fuzzy" type operator. This way, I can search for the words in any order. Example: Hat, cat, would have a higher score when using a contains query. The query would need to be able to identify cat and hat in the string and assign it a score for relevance.
    Any assistance would be great!!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Color is washed out and the type is fuzzy

The color on my HP Pavillion 15 Notebook PC appears washed out. In addition, despite trying several settings on the "clear type", my type seems to be fuzzy nd difficult to read. I've already tried adjusting the color on the advanced settings to no avail. As an example, if there is a box surrounding this post area, I cannot see it. I'm really frustrated and ready to return this after fighting with it for over a month.
