I had the same error and it turned out to be an issue with the domain name specification. I have a single node install on a computer not on a network. But it had been part of a domain earlier. I took it out of the domain and followed the instructions posted by Srinath Nanduri in his post 'Steps for **SUCCESSFUL** installation of 11.5.9 on Windows' - Steps for **SUCCESSFUL** installation of 11.5.9 on Windows

    Hi there.
I had encountered the same hanging problem at "Performing database characterset conversion adsvdcnv.cmd" (On Microsoft Windows Server 2003 - - XEON PROCESSOR - a staging area installation - rapidwiz ver 11.5.9.22 - . ).
What i did is that i installed the JDK version : 1.4.2.04 instead of 1.3.1 and reinstalled the product. So the installation completed successfully..

  • Database Characterset Conversion from AMERICAN to JAPANESE

    Hello
We are creating a test environment from a database with NLS_LANG = AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1. This needs to be converted into Japanese characterset with NLS_LANG = JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16EUC
As per my understanding, I need to first export the database, then create a new database with Japanese NLS_LANG, and then re-import it
Could someone please confirm the steps please
    1. Do I need to change NLS_LANG before exporting the database?
    2. Can I run a database characterset conversion check before exporting db?
    3. Is there any other pre-cautions that I need to take

    Hello,
I have used the Character Set Scan utility (csscan) Version 1.2. I have attached the report results below.
To convert the character set instead of export/import, can I simply do
    ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET ja16euc;
I would appreciate feedback on this if anyone has worked on this conversion before.

  • Characterset Conversion

    Hi,
I would like to change the characterset of my E-Business Suite R12.1.3 with database 10.2.0.4 from US7ASCII to UTF8. Which is the best document to follow and what all are the things I need to take care of?
    Expecting expert's advice.

  • Does Adobe offer an app to perform a batch conversion from Canon CR.2 raw files to TIFF files?

Apply Adobe Photoshop to astrophotography requires numerous images to be converted from a raw CR.2 file to TIFF files. Does Adobe offer an app to perform a batch conversion from Canon CR.2 raw files to TIFF files?
    Thanks.

    Trevor.Dennis wrote:
Note the option to open the first file and apply settings.
Personally, I'd be nervous of batch processing RAW files because they can need significantly different treatments file to file, but it is doable.  I would assume that Image Processor would allow the XML sidecar files, so you would have the option of looking through and fine tuning any files that were not up to scratch.
You do not need to use that option.   There are two other options.   If the RAW file has never been process by ACR then ACR would use your defaults for the cameras used no ACR dialog UI will display.  If the RAW file has been process by ACR there are ACR settings either in you ACR database or in your RAW files sidecar files in the same folder as the raw file these will be used.
I will often use the Bridge to process groups of RAW image files that look like they have similar exposures looking at the thumbnails the bridge displays.  ACR will open for the group of RAW files.  I will process one RAW file and sync the settings to the other image in the group.   I may also  make other ACR setting for some in the group like crops or spot healing for dust that may be in some sykes  because my sensor needed cleaning. When I'm done all I do is click on the DONE button in ACR so it will save out ACR setting for all the raw files in the group.  No image files are saved.   When I use the image processor script I never use the open first RAW option and the Automate Image Processor Pro plug-in script does not have that option open first RAW  in ACR and use the setting set for all other RAW files..

  • To perform database update in a module with AT EXIT-COMMAND addition

    Dear All,
I have a function code 'EXIT' with function type 'E'. When this function code is triggered, my screen should close.
In the module that handles this function code (defined with AT EXIT-COMMAND addition), I will prompt the user whether he/she want's to save the data before exiting with the POPUP_TO_CONFIRM_STEP function module. The text message in the dialog box is "Do you want to save before exiting?".
When the user wants to save the data, a simple UPDATE statement will be executed to write the data on screen to database.
The problem here is since the module is defined with AT EXIT-COMMAND addition, the data on screen won't be copied to their corresponding variable on the code (correct me if I'm wrong). Therefore, even though database update is performed, the data written to database are no different that the original.
How to perform database update in a module with AT EXIT-COMMAND addition?
    or
Is it even a "custom" or a "good practice" to prompt user to save data before exiting?
    Thanks in advance,
    Haris

With an exit command, if there's anything that would be lost, I would prompt "Data will be lost, do you wish to continue?". If they do, the database is not updated, if they don't, they stay in the transaction.
This is because the exit command runs before validation. So how can you know the data is correct?
If you have a button to leave the transaction that isn't an exit command, then you could prompt to save instead. There the choices should be - quit without saving, save and quit, don't quit.
Doing a database update in an exit command is not a good idea.

  • Issue with database characterset

    Hi All,
    Database Version:11gR2
Developer complained that they are trying to insert Japanese characters and they are able to insert but while displaying its not actually dispalying Japanese characters. So i checked the database characterset.
    SELECT * FROM nls_database_parameters WHERE parameter = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
    PARAMETER VALUE
NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P15For 'Japanese' i know that the characterset required is AL32UTF8. The above one supports French i believe.
    So here are my questions.
    1. Is there anyway i can insert and view Japanese characters properly in the above characterset database?
    2. Is there anyway i can change the characterset of the database(i believe we cannot, but just confirming it)
    3. If i create AL32UTF8 and import the database from above characterset, will that work?
    Thanks,
    Arun

    2. Is there anyway i can change the characterset of the database(i believe we cannot, but just confirming it)Yes but this may require a lot of work.
    see approaches in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/ch11charsetmig.htm#CEGDHJFF.
    3. If i create AL32UTF8 and import the database from above characterset, will that work? Yes: should be easy with Data Pump.

  • Changing the Database characterset

    Hi,
My oracle 9i database characterset is AL32UTF8.
I wanted to change this to UTF8 for some testing purpose...
After few days i need to reset this characterset back to AL32UTF8.
how should i proceed on this?
    Plz adivice.....
    Regards,
    Ashok Kumar.G

    Thanks Pierre Forstmann,
In metalink i found out the following
In 9i you can't simply use "ALTER DATABASE CHARACTERSET" to go from
    AL32UTF8 to UTF8 because UTF8 is a SUB-set of AL32UTF8
(some codepoints which are correct in AL32UTF8 are not known in UTF8)
So you will run into ORA-12712 if you try alter database ....
I hope this makes sense when the database contains data.
suppose if i drop my schema(now the database has no user data) and try to change the database characterset from AL32UTF8 to UTF8 will it impact any other?
and after changing to UTF8 can i import the user data again (say from export file which was taken from a UTF8 database) ?

  • Database characterset and National Characterset

    Hi,
I am asking a basic question here in this forum.
What is a Database Characterset and what is National Characterset? I did google, but did not get too much of help.
    Thanks
    -Neel

When looking for basic Oracle terms or concepts, better reference the source directly.
Via http://tahiti.oracle.com you'll find the Globalization Support Guide. Relevant chapter to begin with is 2 - Choosing a Character Set.
Simply put, database character set is for "char" data types and national character set is for "nchar" data types.
For most applications the latter is never needed and current recommendation is to choose AL32UTF8 for database character set, which basically makes national character set i.e. unicode data type solution obsolete. See chapter 6 in the same book for more information.

My system halts whenever I do certain applications such as Windows Media player. audio cleaning Lab 2005 deLuxe, and recordings..... it happens all the time.  However, PC does not crash at other times.
I thought it was my old GeForce3 Ti200 in the first place so I changed it to GeForce4 Ti4600 and the problem is still there :(
I refreshed Win98se and downloaded updates from Microsoft.  I ran memtest68, Registry mechanics, Anti-virus - all successful but still my PC crashes!   By the way, my PSU is http://www.jeantech.com/Products/Power_Supply/400W/400w.html (+3.3v @ 28A, +5v @ 35A, +12v @ 17A).   This is my new PSU replacing my old PSU 300W just few weeks ago.   I suppose this PSU is rubbish! right?
    Any suggestions here?

  • Utl_file output converted from database characterset

I have a developer that is sending output to a file using utl_file. Here is a snippet of his code:
    fileHand UTL_FILE.file_type;
    buffer VARCHAR2(1000);
    UTL_FILE.put_raw(fileHand, UTL_RAW.cast_to_raw(buffer), TRUE);
In the database there is data such as:
    Stéphanie Chéry
but in the output file it is written as:
    Stéphanie Chéry
basically it is being converted to WE characterset.
This is RDBMS 11.2.0.2 64bit running on RHE 5. The linux user account executing the proc that generates the output file has NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8 in it's environment. We don't understand why the characterset is being converted. he has tried using the NCHAR functions of UTL_FILE and still gets the same results.
Any idea what our issue is?

  • Database adjustment - Conversion failed at step5

    Hi All,
When I changed the field length from char7 to char5 for a ZField, which is being used in many other tables like BSEG and COEP, SAP tried to convert all those tables. All the tables were converted and activated properly except for COEP.
Conversion process of COEP is failed at step 5 of the process defined by SAP.
    Restart Log of the conversion:
    1) Initialization was successful
    2) Unload  - Successful
    3) Delete data - Successful
    4) Activate  - Successful
    5) Reload data - failed
    6) Create Indexes - Failed
When I open COEP table through  SE11, it displays a  information message saying " Table COEP does not exist in the database".
Please help me in correcting above mentioned issue.
    Thanks for your time,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

  • Strange behavoir : characterset conversion

there is a strange behavior related to character set conversion under windows. Please take a look at the example below and give me you comment :

    DUMP(CONVERT('I','WE8ISO8859P1

This does seem like strange behaviour, are your windows and Unix clients perhaps of different versions? All I can do is echo Barry's comments, if your database is WE8MSWIN1252 and you want to provide WE8MSWIN1252 data from the client, NLS_LANG must be set to French_France.WE8MSWIN1252.
Note that this must occur before you start SQL*Plus otherwise the setting will not take effect.
