G5 Tower crashes on sleep after Leopard upgrade

Question

I recently "upgraded" from Tiger (10.4.11) to Leopard (!0.5.8). Now, automatic sleep doesn't work. But worse, when I force sleep, the G5 crashes every time (turbo fans come on) within 5 min of sleep - the machine is unresponsive requiring a forced shut down. I have tried forcing sleep when no apps are running (except the OS). I do not have any antivirus SW. I'm thinking of trying to sleep in safe mode to see whether it's any of the apps that load at startup or as root, but other than that, I'm clueless on what to do since this appears to be an OS issue. Comments and strategies would be very helpful.
BTW, there 54GB of free HDD space, there is 2.6 GB of ram and have recently run DiskWarrior on the HDD in case any of this matters.

Nice tech note. I've always tried to decipher what was in those logs. This helps but not in this case. I've copied the crash log that was generated below. Incidentally, I also tried booting back into a Tiger mirrored drive (I will keep them until I'm completely comfortable with the Leopard install, WHICH I'M NOT). Slept and woke as it should. So it's definitely the Leopard install but why? I'm still not quite sure what is going on. Do you?
