G5 wont finish boot, can't find my OS disk

So I guess my question is where can I get OS 10.4.11 to try and resurrect this beast.
Was working fine, then locked with rainbow beachball. Had to button kill it. Now, on boot it makes it to the grey apple screen with gear.
After a few minutes, fans kick into high gear, so I shut it down again.

Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

  • Error on boot: "Can not find script file "C:\ProgramData\Lenovo-20841.vbs".

Recently I'm getting an error dialog box on my T530 when I boot it into my OEM installation of Windows 8.  The window title bar is "Windows Script Host", and the error message is:
Error on boot: "Can not find script file "C:\ProgramData\Lenovo-20841.vbs".
I pulled up an old backup, and I do have that file, along with a number of other ones that are missing from that directory.  I'm attaching a screenshot of the files that are missing.  Not sure why they would have been deleted (I know I didn't do it manually).  Should I just restore the file?  What about the other ones?
    Thanks very much.

I am getting a different VBS script error than the one listed above.
Does anyone know how I can get this file?  or recreate it?
I get a similar message saying that it can't find the file c:\programdata\Lenovo-11472.vbs
Also, my wireless just randomly resets - sometimes very few minutes - after I've been using the system for a while.  It's brand new and I can't figure out what's going on.  Could this be the issue?
When I restart, it stays stable for a while and then starts acting up again.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Can't find the hard disk

Hi Everyone, My iMac G5 20" (not iSight) is about 18 months old and I never had any problem with it until a week ago, when it started booting up with white blank screen. I tried to start it up by Tiger, but wouldn't have it, so I went to change the PRAM battery, but broke the clip, now put a new battery and fixed the problem somehow, BUT regardless how often and how hard I tried, the computer can not find the hard disk when it reaches the installation stage. Not by the system DVD or by it's disk utility. I tried the hard disk in my PowerMac, it works fine. I tried another hard disk, just the same. The three lights on the motherboard come on just fine. I have also tried it with the original DVDs (10.3.9) but just the same. Any ideas please? Many thanks

    Hi,
Ref: iMac 20" (not iSight) model.
Well, I started it by holding down the option key, like usual it only show the flashing icon the the center of the white screen toggling the small square with question mark, looking for the hard drive.
I boot the iMac by system CD, it takes me through first 5/6 stages and finally does not find any hard drive to install. During this process, when I use the Apple Hardware, it does not find anything.
The hard drive works fine on other machines and other working machine hard drive will not be detected on the iMac.
All three logicboard light come on, showing it works fine, according to Apple manual.
The iMac was working fine, then after started to miss detecting the hard drive a few times during it last two weeks of being used, now it will not detect the hard drive.
Looking from logical point of view, it leads to one of the two cables connecting the hard drive to the logicboarde being faulty, but they have never been touched before as well as look fine.
Would it be caused by backup battery (PRAM)?
    Thanks

  • IMac crashed while updating today and I can't find my reboot disk

Hello, I have an iMac that was purchased Feb 2014 and when it was trying to install the latest update today (March 12, 2015) it crashed.  Like, I can't get it to boot at all. unless I have the reboot disk.  The problem is, I can't find my reboot disk.  I have my reboot disks from my 2 MacBook Pro's and from my MacBook Air, but I can't find my iMac disk.
This happened, of course, 6 days after my warranty has expired so I get no support from Apple...geeze.  Any suggestions and/or helps would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Cameron

While in the recovery mode, select the Terminal app from the Utilities menu, and copy & paste the following lines, one at a time, followed by hitting the return key. After the first, you should get a Password: prompt. Carefully, type in your admin password, since nothing shows on the screen, and hit the return key:
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
    sudo chmod a+rx /volumes/*
    These should unlock the HD.

  • Can't find the all disks in storage pool

    Hello
I have Windows server 2012 R2 installed in KVM. I would like to create storage pool on 2 virtual disks.
I use whole new two virtio type disk.
I could see that there's two attached disks.virtio is recognized SCSI bus type.
But I can't find all the disks in storage pool.
No matter how many virtio disks I add, I could only see the first disk I mounted.
Could tell me why? Are multiple virtio type disks not allowed in server 2012 R2 storage pool?

After I initialized the 2 disks as GPT, it is still only recognized the first mounted disk.
Does it might be related to the virtio disk type?
Have you ever tried this situation?

  • Apple TV wont finish booting up..HElp!

Had my Apple TV for about 4 years, over time it became slow and more troublsome to get to complete booting up after it was shut down(after moving etc). As it begine to boot up the images are pixilated and not complete, the sound starts (the boot tune) then it just locks up and wont finish. I have unplugged it multiple times and tried all the commonds from the remote. It seems like a hard drive issue. Is there a secret to "hard boot" beyond the power supply interruption (unplugging)... Is there a place I can send it for service?

I suspect it's a case of hardware failure - either GPU or logic board, and it's probably not economical to repair it.
The pixellation is a bad sign.
Whatever you do wait until after has it's media event on Sept 1st, in case there are some new announcements of interest.

  • Kernel 2.6.25 doesn't boot: can't find root device

    Hey,
Upgrading from 2.6.24 -> 2.6.25 didn't really work, some strange things happened...
It was some time ago since I upgraded so the following packages were updated:
    udev, glibc, kernel-headers, nvidia, kernel26,mkinitcpio,klibc-udev,klibc-extras,klibc
I rebooted and it gave an error like this:
ERROR: Failed to parse block device name for '/dev/hda2'
    unknown
ERROR: root fs cannot be detected: Try using ......
Fallback kernel gives the same error.
So it can't find that disk. I booted in knoppix, added the "pata" hook in mkinitcpio since that was not there yet
    before it was:
HOOKS="base udev autodetect scsi sata filesystems"
    I changed it to
HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems"
Reinstalled the kernel (pacman -S kernel26), rebooted, didn't work. Back to knoppix, searched a bit and found out that pata changes devices into sda. So I changed my grub/menu.lst and fstab and rebooted. Still same error. Fallback kernel the same error.
Changed the pata hook into ide and changed the names back to hda. Rebooted and still the same error. Tried that configuration with sda, still the same error.
So I reverted all the installed packages to the old ones, including klibc-udev etc and I removed the ide hook, so it's HOOKS="base udev autodetect scsi sata filesystems" again.
Rebooted and still the same error!!!! After some testing in the grub bootmenu, I found a config that works: the fallback kernel and the sda naming scheme.
Does anyone have a clue what is going on here?? Why can't I use hda and the normal kernel anymore, even if I reverted all the new programs? Some config file or something? Udev that uses new names?
And any ideas why the new kernel doesn't work?
Thanks a lot!! If you need more information, please ask and I will provide it.
    Grtz

    to answer both questions:
    menu.lst:
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda2 vga=795 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26.img
    root (hd0,1)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda2 vga=795 ro
    initrd /boot/kernel26-fallback.img
    fstab:
    /dev/sda2 / ext3 defaults 0 0
But those should be correct since it booted before.
About mkinitcpio -p kernel26, the output that gives me is the output pacman -S kernel26 gives and I also performed the mkinitcpio command manually as suggested in some other forum threads
When booting today (with 2.6.24 fallback and sda naming scheme), I got a kernel panic, he couldn't find the root device... Rebooting did the trick, then it could boot all of a sudden! Is it somehow possible that my disks are getting named randomly by udev or something?

  • Imac OSX 10.4.11 Not booting- Can't find a solution!

    Hello all!
I am resigned to posting this question as after 4 days of scouring the forums I have still not found a solution for the problem.
It started when Safari was always freezing up and slowing down the imac. We tried to run an update, and when we restarted imac was stuck on the blue screen. We tried to restart again and it was stuck on the gray apple screen with the endless spinning of the pinwheel.
This is where I went through reading all the various forums and it seems that other people have also had this problem while running updates.
    1. Tried to reset PRAM and NVRAM, Still no luck.
    2. Tried to boot into safe mode- the imac just keeps turning itself off.
    3. booted via the disc installation- ran disk utility- tried to repair permissions- it completed yet after restart same problems. Tried also to run disk repair but got an invalid node structure message (which apparently is argued whether it is an hardware issue, or a software issue).
    4. Tried to run repair permissions again but there was no progress with the utility after a 2 hour wait.
    5. Finally resigned to reinstalling the OSX (with an archive so as to not lost programs and data) with the 2 installation discs. However keep getting errors during install which won't let us reinstall the OS- I choose the HD to install, it processes the installation disc for about 30 mins, then it says preparing for installation, and verifying destination volume. It then almost immediately stops and says that there were errors installing the software and "please try installation again".
Now I definitely do not want to run a full reinstall and format the whole drive, but nothing seems to be working. Is the HD zapped? Any suggestions to as any other solutions? Apple care is long expired and money is tight so not looking like a viable option + this is what they basically advised us to do, and I am worried that in such serious issues they will immediately declare a new HD is needed.
Please help, I am completely stumped and the wife cannot work on any of her design projects with no computer...

    1. If I get diskwarrior- how do I run it? Is it installed via single user mode and run through there?
It needs to boot from the Superdrive, or from another Hard Drive with OSX & DiskWarrior installed.
    2. Is there a chance that my SUPERdrive is also problematic and this is the reason why the install is failing? A while back I had a CD in the drive that was stuck and only able to get out after a few months.
    Yes.
Is there a way to re-install the OSX from a USB drive or something else? Is it actually possible to boot from an external USB 2.0 HD?
Yes, as long as it's Mac compatible, IntelMacs can boot OSX from USB, but Firewire will be faster...

    Hello rewing45,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with installing your Canon printer on to your Windows 8 computer.  I see that the computer is an HP.  I suggest that you contact Canon for installation instructions.  They will troubleshoot the printer on the Operating system NOT on the make of the computer.

  • RAID failed - Can't find status in disk utility

I have an Xserve G5 with 3 hitachi 80GB SATA hard drives with a RAID 5 (I think) running 10.4.6. A couple of days ago, the server was running really slow and the afp was taking up alot of cpu time, so we rebooted the server as we haven't had a problem with afp before. However, the server would no longer boot up and the RAID alarm started going off. Now when booting the server I get the apple screen and after a couple of minutes, the server's fan would start going faster and faster until they would be going full blast. So I tried to check the status using disk utility of the RAID, but I can't see any status. I admit that I have only been working with the xserve for almost a year and I don't know alot, but all I see on the left of the disk utility is xserve megaraid and below that Server HD. I checked both of these and clicked on all of the tabs (first aid, RAID, partition, restore, etc), but I can't find a place to check the status of the RAID. All I can find about RAID is how to create another one. I finally found that I can run megaraid -showstatus and it said that the first hard drive failed and the other 2 were online. I also took out the hard drive and ran hitachi's test drive software using the advanced test and it said everything was fine. So I'm not sure if there is just something wrong with the RAID or what.
I did order another hard drive that is exactly the same and it should be here in a couple of days. I also know that this is the hard drive that was accidentally ejected while the server was running before, but when the hard drive was put back in, the RAID rebuilt it and has been running fine till now. I am pretty sure that I shut the server off before when the hard drive got ejected and it would boot, so I'm just not sure exactly what this all means as the Hitachi software tells me there is nothing wrong with the drive.
    Help please

I checked the status of the server and hard drive by booting off of the 10.4 installation disk, select utilities and disk utility.
I know very little about terminal, however I'm pretty good at dos so I can figure some things out if given some commands.
Anyway, I ran some commands and here are the results:
    megaraid -showstatus
    MEGARAID CLI version 1.0.12
    No cmd argument
Um, so I think I remebered the command incorrectly and I did -showdevices instead. Sorry.
