G580 external USB 2 and 3 hub connection

G580 Windows 8 64bit
I am unable to connect either USB2 or USB3 external hubs either powered or not to the notebook. The USB2 is locked out by windows and the USB3 crashes the system until removed. Intel driver update states that all Intel drivers are up to date. Both tested hubs work on an HP Vista 32bit laptop. Individual USB devices work fully so it seems to be hubs that are the problem.  As there are only two USB3 ports available it would be convenient to use a hub occasionally. Any help would be gratefully received

I have a drive I had been using in a 2007 MacBook that I would like to "upgrade" to a compatible version of 10.7.4 (build 11E2705), but I am having trouble finding a way to get the version of the OS on the drive without affecting the data on the drive.
I had hoped that booting from the Recovery partion on the SSD would allow me to "Reinstall 10.7" to get a compatible version, but the drive still can not boot the 2012 MacBook Air.
I may try cloning next, moving directories I want to keep to the root level of the target drive, but I wish there was an easier way to "refresh" the install of the OS to a newer version for new hardware.
I also need to find a way to "refresh" the USB drive I have for installing 10.7, to make sure it has the ability to boot new hardware, since the original 10.7.4 USB install clone does not boot the newest laptops.

  • Best external USB/FW hubs?

Been a little concerned by what readers have posted about the Belkin and other external USB/FW hubs -- even those posted on Apple's pages that list recommended hubs. Many folks have complained that these things get extremely hot....Anyone have recommendation. My problem with some hubs I've seen is that the way the ports are placed your cables fork out in off directions and make a mess. Some of the Belkin hubs are designed ifferently but people say these get very hot. Also, will FW devices really run properly through one of these hubs? Lastly, I see some hubs list as NOT requiring an AC power supply. Do non-powerd hubs really work reliably?

    Hello David Chartrand,
Ok first a word on Hubs, especially, FireWire hubs.
Be aware that not all manufacturer's hubs are built to, or adhere to, 1394 standards, and may be damaged or cause system problems; If unsure, check with a potential supplier's support and get them to confirm that their product will comply with 1394 and work with Apple products Some don't.
The official FW specifications designate voltage from 8 - 30 Volts @+/- 10percent which means that if the vendors unit is not built to handle that voltage, it will fail.
Second, if your considering a Hub, you have a better chance of success with a Powered Hub, and, you have a better chance of success with a dedicated firewire hub rather than a combination USB/Firewire device
One example on the boards is a combo hub from IOGear which actually "popped" it's internal capacitors.
Hubs that are reported as working include but not limited to; Belkin Modelf5726slv and Belkin's 6-PortHub(F5U526APL). I use a good Macally Hub that ran about $ 80. and can be found here; http://www.macally.com/spec/firewire/connecting/hub_uf.html
Regarding iSight: I strongly suggest that you consider unplugging the iSight anytime your using any other FW device. If fact, since the iSight is never truly "off", just leave it unplugged until your actually going online to chat.
This applies weather you are using a hub or not, so unless you are chatting with a buddies, keep the iSight camera unplugged; hub or no hub. And you especially run a risk when doing backups to external FW HD's.
The only exception I've found is for some PowerBooks. From waht I can tell, the internal FW circuit/components used the other Mac series are not the same as used in my PB.
    Hope this helps.

  • SB Live ! 24 bit external USB and windows seven blue screen

;SB Li've ! 24 bit external USB and windows seven blue screen+ hi! i have installed windows seven 64 bit build 7600 RTM on my PC and i wanted to install also my USB sound card which is SB Li've ! 24 bit and i downloaded the beta drivers from creative. instalation was really fast and smooth but at the end i've got a message that the program has stopped to response and i have closed it. i did a system reboot and i have seen that the sound card has been installes succesfull and also the control panel. Sound was clear and really nice, all worked fine but sometimes im getting a blue screen on my windows with a code STOP 0x000000E and then a file named usbuhc.sys was the problem. i think that the sound card is the thing that is doing the blue screen becouse i have only a keyboard, mouse and the sound card SB Li've ! installed as USB.
Is it normal that i have those troubles on my PC ? is it my sound card my windows seven problem ? what should i do now ?
at the moment i have turned off the sound card so i will see if i get a blue screen or not.
    thanks for any reply

  • PC Suite - no USB and Serial Connection Type avail...

I have been trying to solve this problem for days now. I have Windows XP and Nokia 5310. After I installed Nokia PC Suite, there is no USB or Serial connection type in the Connection Manager; it only has Blue Tooth and Infrared conection available. I have install and uninstalled PC suite and used PC Suite Cleaner to clean the installation. I also went into the add and remove program in the control panel and click on "change" to fix the Nokia Connection Manager and Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. It still didn't work. The thing is that the first time when installed PC Suite on my laptop, it did have USB connection option. Later after uninstalled PC Suite and reinstalled it, it start to have this problem. I am extremly frustrated. Can anyone help please?

Thanks for your reply. I have solved the problem by following your instruction below:
Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Software, there you need to uninstall all Nokia software (Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Cable driver, PC Connectivity Solution ...)
Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner
    Reboot your computer
Download and install PC Suite here.
Connect your phone via USB cable (if possible use a different USB jack) and follow the instructions on the screen.
Maybe when I uninstalled Chinese version of PC suite, the order in which it was uninstalled was not the one you suggested above. So,I followed your instruction and uninstall order to uninstall PC Suite again. I also uninstalled all the antivirus, spyware, and firewall before I reinstall the PC Suite. It worked; then, I reinstalled all the other security software again after I had reinstalled the PC Suite. Although it worked, I still didn't know what exactly cause the problem the first place, PC Suite version, Security protection software, or the order which it was uninstalled? All it matters is it's working.

  • Lion won't sleep when my external USB drive is connected

    Hi guys,
I've searched the forums and can't find anyone with quite the same problem I'm experiencing here. I've noticed that my power saving settings are not being actioned properly on my 2011 mac mini, in that the system never goes to sleep at the specified interval.
This isn't a problem that the system will not sleep at all, if I manually put the computer to sleep it obeys and goes to sleep instantly, also when using Plex media centre software, and allowing it to control the system sleep state, it also works fine.
After some digging, I found using pmset -g assertions that the system won't sleep normally because of the following
    Listed by owning process:
      pid 20: [0x0000012c00000014] ExternalMedia named: "com.apple.powermanagement.externalmediamounted"
At first I wondered if it was because of some network shares I had mounted, which is not the case, it does however seem to be because of my external USB hard drive. As soon as I unplugged this, the assertion went away and pmset reports sensibly and the system can sleep.
The problem is that I use the external drive to store quite a lot of media (the built-in HD is not nearly big enough to store both the OS *and* all my files), so what gives? Why will Lion refuse to go to sleep when I have an external USB HD attached, and yet sleep perfectly willingly when I explicitly tell it to do so?
Any help will be gratefully received - suggestions of buying a new external HD to see if it helps shall not be entertained and dismissed forthwith, as this setup worked perfectly well with Snow Leopard and an old style mac mini.

I am stumped too. The issue is that the 'pmset -g' command does not allow changing the ExternalMedia flag.
An observation that may be relevant to this topic is as follows: if you unmount the drive (but not physically disconnect it), sleep comes in the specified time. Upon wakeup, however, the drive is mounted again to the desktop. I've noticed this behavior with SD cards, and I assume that HDs should do the same.
If this is the case, then it may be possible to use ControlPlane (current version is ControlPlane-1.1.4) and create an "about to sleep" situation, which triggers USB disk unmounting. Haven't tried it, but was thinking to (subsequently just gave up and eject my USB  storage manually).
    Hope this helps.

  • Photosmart Plus - Simultaneous USB and Wifi Connection?

I am looking to purchase the Photosmart Plus wireless All-in-one, and want to connect it to my home desktop computer via USB, and also to my existing wireless network (I already have a router set up) so my laptop can also print wirelessly.  Is it possible to connect one computer to this printer via USB, and also have the printer connected to the wireless network at the same time?
    Thank you!

  • Tiger and USB and Classic connection problems

I have two instances where a USB device that worked in Panther/Classic will not connect/work in Tiger 10.4.3/Classic.
One is StylusRIP software from Epson that I use to print Postscript files (mainly from IllustratorCS) with my Epson Stylus 3000. When it's working, the RIP runs in Classic, but shows up as a printer choice in the Print Center. It worked fine in Panther/Classic, but since I upgraded to Tiger the printer is not recognized. The printer works in OSX using the non-Postscript driver, so I know that basic connectivity (cables, ports, etc.) is OK.
The other is a RoboLab USB infrared transmitter. Same scenario.
While troubleshooting the transmitter, I tried booting into OS9 (on my G4) and the connection was made. It worked fine. I tried the same thing with StylusRip, and it too worked fine, the printer was recognized.
My USB Epson scanner still works in OSX, but it has a native driver.
Can anyone tell me what could be different about the way Tiger handles USB that could affect the interoperability with devices/software that require Classic?
Any suggested troubleshooting? Is it possible to "reset" the USB ports? I've reset the PRAM, haven't tried resetting NVRAM.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am running 9.2.2. The only thing that changed was the update to Tiger. I have called ESPON, and they refer me to Adobe because they licensed the RIP from Adobe. I've not had any success with that yet. The last update of RIP does not support the Stylus 3000 printer, and I don't think it's native anyway. The set-up I was using was a "non-supported workaround", so I may just be out of luck. Which is a pain, because the printer still has some miles on it. I may try to see if I can use an older Mac running 9.2.2 as a print server.
Robolab has an OSX native update out, so we will get that.
What I found curious was that both pieces of software, or the USB connectivity required by both, was broken by Tiger.

  • MacBook Pro won't stay awake with external display AND power connected

I've been using my MacBook Pro with an external 23" Apple display for several months, always with the lid closed and with no problems. Suddenly, I can no longer keep the MacBook awake when its lid is closed. *The AC power IS connected.* I plug in the display, close the lid, wake the system with my external keyboard, but then it will quickly go to sleep again after a few seconds. No matter what I've tried I get the same behavior.
Perhaps coincidence, perhaps not, I installed the Leopard graphics update a few weeks ago. Could this be a cause?

Apple did actually acknowledge this as a known issue with people running 10.5.2 with the graphics update, and are investigating it. There's some further discussion at this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1394449&tstart=0
Anyway, what worked for me was powering down, connecting my external display, keyboard, etc., powering up, and immediately closing the lid. It seems to behave better now, though I haven't rebooted since, although I have switched back and forth between running with the external display, and running without it, without any problems.

  • Where/how to troubleshoot external gateway and internal connection brokers etc.??????

We have gateway.domain.org as our external/internal gateway server.
It goes from gateway.domain.org to rdbroker.domain.local, rdbroker is the DNS address for two connection broker servers.
After this it should set up the connection and create a remote desktop to one of the RDS host servers in the RDS host farm.
Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't -- for different user accounts and different computers.
    How to troubleshoot this??
We know the firewall rules for DMZ etc. etc. are properly configured because everything IS observed to work, just not all the time consistently. We get errors about cannot contact the computer, cannot establish remote desktop connection...
    Thank you, Tom

    Hi Tom,
Firstly, you need to recheck the DNS entry is well setup for your case. Are you using DNS RR for Load balancing the server or 3rd party load balancer? Have you setup the proper certificate for your case?
Please check whether required ports is opened? We need to open TCP port 443 and UDP port 3391 and forward them to your RD Gateway server. Also need to specify the external FQDN of your RD Gateway server in deployment properties under RDS server manager. If
you have RDWeb and RDG on the same server this would be the same FQDN that your users will use for RDWeb. Please see whether you have properly configured RD RAP and RD CAP policy.

  • Supported external usb and/or firewire dvd drive

What's the latest consensus on an external drive for an iBook running 10.4? The internal one has failed and is going to be a couple of hundred quid to replace.
FireWire and USB support would be ideal as the USB interface will be useful once the iBook is replaced with a MacBook.
Support can be native or via patchburn, I'm not that fussed. Needs to work with iLife and The Finder.

  • External VIdeo and Sound Connection

Not too sophisticated re computers and am still moving from XP to OSX 5.5/Macbookpro.
Want to connect mac to 48" HDTV for movies, games. TV has HDMI port open and digital audio port available.
    Questions are re audio connection:
    1. I have dvi to hdmi cable on order;
    2. do I also need separate digital audio cable? and
    3. if yes, what type of connectors on cable? Mac port looks like small rca, but all cable I see have M ends that are not circular.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, did you manage to work this out?
I've got my MacBook Pro connected via DVI to HDMI to the TV. Picture comes through OK. Should sound come through the same connection or is a separate cable needed?
    TIA

  • Multiple external drive problems, both USB and Esata

Everything worked well in Tiger on my first gen MBP. Since i switched to Leopard and now Snow, and a new UNI MBP in december 08 I have so many external drive issues.
USB drives just disappear and power off (from the system not electrical) for no reason, mostly when connected to USB hubs. I've tried various hubs including the powered ones. But as soon as i go over two USB devices in the provided ports my problems start.. It feels like not enough juice is getting through those ports on my MBP. I never have a problem if i just connect 2 devices into the MBP, but it's not enough (i have 5x1tb external drives).
Also the same with the express34 slot.. Everything was fine under Tiger and my old MBP, But now i get the grey wall of death so many times when connecting 2x esata 1TB drives. The system is so unstable with multiple drives both USB and. I'm currently working as a pro Photographer on assignment in Asia and these stability are starting to become a big problem.
God forbid i'm even considering a switch back to windows for reliability, (yes, i did use the words windows and reliability in the same sentence)
Does anybody else experience problems with multiple drives through leopard/snow leopard via Apple notebooks? I would love to hear some users experiences and hopefully find a solution to my problem.. In every other way the system works like a charm.
I will post in 2 forums because i'm not sure if software or hardware related.
    Thanks, any help is appreciated.

    @ Gregory
All my drives are 3.5" HD's all with external power cables along with a mains powered USB hub. Sorry, i didn't state that clearly in the original post (i thought the hint of all drives being 1TB was a dead giveaway:)).. However, this still doesn't explain the same behaviour of the 2x1TB esata drives which actually work well if no external USB drives are connected. Sorry i'm not technical but does the expresscard slot share any bridge, bus or power connectivity with the USB slots??
I'll try this SMC reset that S.U mentioned...
Thanks for everyones help and ideas so far.

I have acquired a keyboard enermax acrilux usb and have connected the taken keyboard to the qosmio g50 12q at the same one where an other keyboard was attacked usb and that it worked without problems.
After to start the PC with keyboard eneramx connected the qosmio has not loaded windows vista ultimate and the inner impellers have been activated.
Never happened previously. I have doubted of the enermax
Reconnected to taken usb the mail of the qosmio it has on the back not given to problems of start of impellers
As the enermax it never has blocked the start of the system operating and put in function the impellers also having connected it to the same one taken usb to which precedence was connected one keyboard ?
    Tank you

    Hi mate
Sorry but you message I really hard to understand
What I understand is that you connected an external keyboard to the Qosmio and now the notebook does not boot up correctly. Is it right?
What to say; maybe you should disable the USB legacy mode in BIOS.
    Please check this!
To get into the BIOS press F2 and while powering up the notebook.

  • Which External Drives are compatible with Time Machine.  I plan to utilize it for backups and to connect to an Airport Extreme.

MBP Retina, 15 inch, Late 2013. Intel Core i7.  OSX 10.9.4
Which External Hard Drives are compatible with Time Machine.
I plan to use one drive for automatic backups connected to an Airport Extreme.
The connection can be USB or Ethernet and should be expandable.
    OR
should I just buy the Time capsule and avoid the compatibility, connection and interference issues.
    Thanks

    Hi Kappy,
I just saw that on the Apple Support site that "Time Machine is not supported with USB hard drives that are connected to an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme device", just as you have suggested.
Why is the newest model of the Airport Extreme, which is the model I have, an exception to the Time Machine compatibility?
The following information is from Apple website:
    Time Machine works with:
AirPort Time Capsule's built-in hard drive (any model)
External USB hard drive connected to AirPort Time Capsule (any model)
An external hard drive connected to your Mac
Use the Time Machine pane of System Preferences to choose your backup disk(s).
    Additional Information
Time Machine is not supported with USB hard drives that are connected to an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme device.
