Gallium works much better for some i915 chipsets

I've been unable to run almost all modern games due to severe lack of opengl extensions support on my old Intel Atom netbook using an Intel GMA 3150 graphics card.
When I recompile mesa with gallium support for i915, everything is fixed and I can play most games on low settings.
Is there any chance gallium could be made default for i915?

Thanks for the info. I had actually read about your modification when you first posted it. Great information. I am hesitant to cut into my two pairs of Asics GT-2110 as these have become my favorite shoe and probably the only shoe I will ever buy in the future. So I plan to use your velco under the laces modification on those.
I do have a pair of Saucony Omni 5's that I do not like as much. So I decided to try the cutting method on those. It actually worked very well. The sensor was very accurate and consistent. I could not feel it at all in my arch. Of course, the real test will be repeated runs to see if my foot develops any soreness.
I have also used a shoe pouch. I do not recommend this method. The accuracy greatly decreases and worse, it is much less consistent. I usually run around a 9 minute pace and using the shoe pouch method, the pace is always flucuating from like 7:00 to 13:00 even though most of the time it does settle around 9:00. I assume this is because the sensor is moving around too much.
I may try the marware product when it comes out. It looks like there will not be much movement with that one. And since I rotate shoes, it would be slightly more convenient than the velco method. But it would have to be accurate and consistent to make it worthwhile.
All in all I love this product. I refuse to buy Nike shoes. So I am glad I have found a few proven methods to make this thing work.

Is it just me,or is the your Iphone working much better over the past 24 hr. For the past 3 weeks it's been very slow in getting my email (can take up to 5 hrs) or accessing the internet. Over the past 24 hrs in New York City both email and internet have been fast as lightening. Is anyone else seeing improved service in the past 24 hrs? There hasn't been an update. Why is it all of a sudden working so well?

I get better 3G signal after the last update and in some areas where I used to get 1 or 2 bars maximum, now I get 3 and it is not dropping like before.

I would say to start by looking on their web site... unfortunately, that appears to be dead.
Based on the horrible ratings on the App Store (1 star for the current version), I'm not surprised it doesn't work well.

Which is much better for me, MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display or MacBook Air 13"?

Hi! I'm a High School Student, and I really need help in choosing the right MacBook. So which is which?
I'm really confused in choosing which MacBook suites. I have been researching about the specs of each MacBooks; some websites say "MacBook Pro is much better" while the others "MacBook Air is better than the Pro". I'm totally confused! And PLEASE HELP ME!

Unfortunately, you mentioned "GAMES!!!" - no Mac notebook is a good gaming machine (sad but true). For everything else, however, I would recommend a MacBook Pro (Retina or non-Retina - whichever you prefer, although my preference is for the non-Retina: it lacks the portability of the Retina but is user upgradeable whereas the Retina 13" machine is limited to 8GB of RAM, soldered onto the logic board, and a 'fixed' storage space).
I haven't looked at the specs but I'm assuming that the Retina model would be only slightly heavier than the Air. But it would out-perform the Air should you desire to try games with it.
Good luck - we get these "what shall I buy" questions all the time but, in the end, it's your decision.

Home sharing is not working in apple tv after upgrading apple tv to 4.2.2. I've had apple tv working just fine for some time now and after upgrading, it stop working and prompts me in Apple tv to turn on home sharing in Itunes. It's on.

It asks me, in apple tv when I go to my "Library" to turn on home sharing. It's on. When I turn it off and back on I can access my itunes stuff fine for a day or two and then it doesn't work again. I've tried unplugging appletv, reboot the router (att uverse), and then plug in apple tv again and it doesn't help. it's still give me the message. the only thing that works, temporarily, is to turn off home sharing and turn it back on.
I'm using itunes version 10.5.0 on windows 7. can someone help me with this? I can't run up and down the stairs all the time. I have bad knees and other conditions that stop me from doing that. Please help.

I've been having similar problems so I put a packet analyzer on the network to see what's really happening. (Apologies in advance if this post is too techno-babbly...)
Some background:
How do Apple devices find each other over the network?
iTunes with home shaing turned on sends out a message to a special IP address called a multicast (224.0.0.251, in this case.) All your Apple devices listen to this multicast address and respond over that same address. This process applies to iTunes, AppleTV and Apple Remote at least (those are the things I've been testing with.)
How do Apple devices communicate with each other once they're found?
Once they find each other, they establish a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) communication session. This connection is only between two devices. In this case, iTunes and AppleTV or Apple Remote and AppleTV. The TCP session is how data gets transferred between devices.
The problem:
I captured the protocol traffic between my PC and AppleTV first with the firewall software turned off. In my case, I use Norton 360. What I see is iTunes and AppleTV communicating over the multicast address every 100 seconds. My iTunes usually 'disappears' from AppleTV and the Apple Remotes within about 5 minutes so I left the firewall off for half an hour and everything worked fine. I turned the firewall software back on and then restarted everything. iTunes then did the device discovery and all the devices found each other. Then, after a period of about five minutes of inactivity, the multicast discovery protocol stopped being sent by my PC. Why? I really don't know. From watching the apple protocol's timing, contents and behavior, I see nothing wrong with the implementation. I've done troubleshooting on other location-based multicast protocols for work and have seen some dumb things but Apple's protocol is done correctly and behaves exactly as I would expect.
The solution:
I put a rule into my firewall software explicitly allowing the multicast IP address and also the local subnet that my devices use. I then moved the new firewall rules to the top of the list to ensure that they will be 'hit' before any of the other rules in the list. After that, I left the firewall on and tested for a while then left everything idle for an hour. When I came back, everything still worked. I would suggest that replacing your firewall software won't necessarily help you here. You just need to make sure that the rules for the Apple stuff are put in manually and are at the very top so that another deny rule in the list doesn't trigger before the new permit rules. Hopefully it goes without saying but doing the above leaves your PC completely wide open on the local network so, if you use wireless, please be sure to use encryption on it.

Spry menu not working in IE for some reason

Hello, I have an issue at hand that is quite troubling
I am designing a website in Dreamweaver CS3 for the childcare place I work for, and it was coming along great until I realized that I never stopped to see if the spry worked in Internet Explorer (I use FireFox on average). Turns out, it doesn't, and does this sort of weird thing where all the menu items are backwards and the submenus only show on the far right of the page.
It works fine in FireFox, so I am truly curious on what I might've done wrong here.

As a last remark, if you want to center text do so using the CSS rule.
For example instead of <div align="center"> use <div style="text-align: center;">. This will make it HTML compliant.
Also use normal tags rather than divs to apply styles.
For example where you had <li><div align='center'><a href='#'>Some Text</a></div></li> use <li style='text-align: center;'><a href='#'>Some Text</a></li>
The above two examples show the use of in-line style rules which are selective style rules. Better still is to define rules that cover every instance at once so that, if you want to change the rule, you only need to do so once rather than multiple times.

Unable to set working directory (-2147024832) for some app installs

I've found several drivers on a Dell Laptop that don't play well with others in MDT 2012, so I started making an application install package for them instead. Most of them fail with an "unable to set working directory" error. I checked
the app install logs and they don't really make any sense to me. I know the process as a whole works, because I can install .Net 4.0 runtimes without any problems using the same method. The important bits of the ZTI App log are below. Would
be for any guidance on this, as I'm stumped and none of the searches on the exact errors are of much help.
A sample error returned in the wizard is:
WARNING - unable to set working directory (-2147024832)Error installing application Dell 3440_Chipset_Driver_JD3WN IMEI drivers 9.5.3.1520_A00: The system cannot find the file specified.
The ZTIApplication.log file contains the following... the first is one that works (.NET 4), the second is one that fails. (Not using code block for this one, it doesn't like it).

Why can't it find it or set the working directory, especially when it's already validated that it's there?

I'm not familiar with how Dell does their client side software, but for the server-side software (my area of expertise), I've always done something like the following:
I recommend running every application install in a VBScript/Powershell wrapper. You get logging for the application back on your SLShare as well as its cleaner (you can replace Drivers A05 with A06 by changing the script, rather than editing the application
in MDT).

I always copy any drivers that are installed after the fact (everything for me other than SAS/NIC drivers) to the C:\Temp as it can break. I always update my NIC drivers during the build to the latest Dell software using their packs. I try to
not mess with my boot image unless I'm adding a new model that is not supported by the built-in drivers.

Safari works much better since latest update.

It's amazing how much Safari works since the update from 7.1 to 7.0.5. With the update 7.1 I couldn't open some web-sites and others were terribly slow. I had to use Firefox! Now everything is fine. Safari is my preferred browser.

Tap Settings > Safari
Tap to clear History, Cookies, and Data.
Then reset the iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

I've been working with AI for some time time now & would love to have a light weight viewer to open the files. The bridge is fine when we're working but just being able to toggle through folders is impossible otherwse

I was thinking of keeping things a bit easier in the way of clicking & dragging artwork into Illustrator. The bridge is fine when we're in the print shop & working but still has problems with some of the file extensions with the vectors. A lightweight no frills viewer that would open anything that Illustrator would open, so we could just burn through our regular file folders without opening AI or the bridge would be a great deal. Add the PS extensions too & we could dance by the firelight. Just offer it to those with the software & the valid codes for their software. I mean if there would be a problem with folks just grabbing it up. Love to have it though.

A thumbnail preview file icon option would be nice. CorelDRAW has had this capability for its past few versions. It does make it a whole lot easier conducting searches in Windows File Explorer. You can find the right files pretty quickly and then drag/drop them into CorelDRAW.

Suddenly, I am unable to add photos to my project in Imovie 11. I have an IMac Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and have made several movies where this worked fine but for some reason, it has quit. Everything seems to be working fine except that?

I'm an oldtimer and have had this Mac for less than 2 yrs and have LOTS to learn - but I've climbed the curve a little. !'ve made several movies and published to YouTube and burned to disc using IDVD with reasonably good results. Each time I have added stills to my movies it has worked fine - but tonight, I'm suddenly unable to add them. I click "Photos" - select my photo - left click the photo and drag into the project while holding the click. Have the green "+" and the green highlight and even get the green vertical bar in the project but when I release the click, the photo simply disappears! One "clue" here may be this: I was able to add one still to this project and the only diff between it and the other still thumbnails now is that there is a "green check mark" on the thumbnail of the one successfully added. Any suggestions? (I do have the "advanced tools" option selected in IMovie Preferences.)

• iMovie ill behaving - Trash the iMovie pref file - use to set things right
• in reg. to Photos - Did You change iPhoto Photo Library - Then iMovie get's lost as it peeks into iPhoto on start up to see where photos are stored. Set iPhoto back to first Photo Library (when iMovie is not running) then start iMovie.

Links not working in Reader for some

Hi,
I'm making PDF documents from InDesign and then opening up the PDF in Acrobat Pro on my Mac and adding in links. Once I save and open the PDFs again, I'm able to click on the links in both Pro and Reader and they work on my computer, but for others on a PC using the Reader 11, the links don't work. Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Hmm. Sounds like something went wrong with the links. Are they spelled out (using http://www....etc) or are they hyperlinks? If they are spelled out, you could have your version of Reader set to recognize links and they may not (Edit>Preferences>General>Basic tools - Create links from URLs).
To create links in ID, highlight the text, go to your hyperlinks pallet and in the drop-down select "New link" and fill in the appropriate information. Then when you export it to PDF from ID, in the "General" settings section under "include" select "Hyperlinks".
There are other options you may want to be aware of but that's better asked about in the ID forum.

I cannot get the followed links colors to work in 24 for some reason.

I have just downloaded to v24, and now I cannot get the colors to work for the followed links on a web page. I have checked the settings on my other computers running windows 7, but those settings will not
work on my laptop running windows 8. In my previous firefox version it worked fine, but fails in v24. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you setting the link colours from inside the Firefox options?
Some website have their own link colours programmed and will override your specifications.

"Close Firefox - Error Message -. Firefox already running, but not responding -.." A real pain - Firefox worked much better before all the updates!! How do I fix this?

This pop-up appears anytime I attempt to close Firefox and immediately open another browser, etc.
Suspect it is add-ons related. Never had the problem with "older" version of Firefox.
It is a real nuisance, almost makes me go to Explorer!

Try to wait a bit longer (up to 1 minute or maybe more) as it can take some time for Firefox to close completely.
