GeForce4 MX using DVI to S-VIDEO / Composite Adapter

Hi peoples,
I'm running a PowerMac G4 Dual-867MHz MDD, with nVIDIA GeForce4 MX Video card.
I want to connect this PowerMac to the TV, so I bought the DVI to S-VIDEO/Composite, to find out that it doesn't work with this video card.
My question is;
is there something I can do to get this adapter working with my current set up, or do i need another video card or something?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers.

A new video card would work. e.g.
ATI Radeon Pro PC&Mac Edition 256 MB. Has two DVI
ports. The DVI to S_Video adapter will work on one
port, the other port can handle a screen up to 30".
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition 256 MB. Better 3D
performance. One DVI port (single-link, no 30"
support), VGA port, and S-Video port. S-Video to
composite adapter included.
There are also used Mac, and modified PC cards that
would work.
Thanks for your reply. 3D performance isn't really required, as it's being used a server machine that will be hooked up to the TV, so it's hard to justify a Radeon 9800 Pro. Hopefull I can find something cheap & nasty, else this baby is going on eBay.
Cheers.

  • Mini dvi to s-video/composite adapter doesn't seem to work?

basically i'm trying to hook my rather new 2.53 ghz mac mini to my tv, which basically has rca inputs. so, having seen several laptops hooked to this tv as simply as using an s-video to composite adapter, i figured it would be as simple as getting the mini dvi to composite adapter and i'd be good. well, for some reason this doesn't seem to do anything. the other weird thing is that when i hook the cable from the composite adapter to the tv, i get a buzz out of the speakers as the connection is being made. why is a video signal having anything to do with the audio? plugging my playstation 2 into the same input works fine. why the difference?

That's the setup I've used. Works great for video and photos, but webpage text can be difficult to read.
I used the yellow composite input rather than the s-video. My old tv is inside an “entertainment center” type tv stand and is so friggin heavy, it’s a pain in the axx to move, so I just used the composite plug on the front of my tv. Since the Mac mini is sitting in front of the tv it works great:-)

  • Problems with Mini DVI to S-Video/RCA adapter

    Hello
I've got a mac mini and I want to pass its image to a television (note: this television doesn't have HDMI)
I've bought the Mini DVI to S-Video/RCA adapter, but when I connect it to my TV nothing appers (except some gray lines, which means the signal is reaching the TV, but no image)
    Thanks

That connector may not be compatible with an Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini like yours.

  • DVI to S-Video & Composite plug cable needed for output to audio/TV system

I'm in need of a DVI to S-Video and Composite plug cable to replace the Monster iTV Link cable I used with my 12" Aluminum PowerBook. (http://www.monstercable.com/apple/Computer.asp) I use it to output to my audio/TV system.
Whereas the PowerBook used a mini-DVI port and had the audio output jack on the same side of the computer, the MacBook Pro uses a full size DVI port and has the audio jack on the opposite side!
I've been unable to find a cable so that I can connect up to a TV. Does anyone know where I can find one? Or perhaps a DVI to mini-DVI adapter? Or perhaps a VGA to S-Video/Composite cable and I can use the DVI to VGA adapter that came with the computer?
    This is very frustrating!

Apple's video adapters have a ROM chip inside them with EDID data contained within the ROM. That is one thing that will definitely be different between the two. The NTSC and PAL version (M9267G/A) gives priority to NTSC. This could cause problems in a PAL country. If you hooked a PAL TV up using this adapter, you might get a rolling (non-synced) screen and you'd have no good way to recover since the image on the screen would be unusable.
I don't think one adapter would have any advantage over the other in terms of PAL picture quality. It would just be a question of compatibility as outlined above. That's my best guess.

  • Mini Dvi to S-video/Composite/RCA

I have a 2007 black macbook and recently bought a Mini-DVI to video adapter (brand-dynex) and hooked it up to my older television (TV has no hdmi hookup or dvi, just S-Video and RCA) and I could faintly make out my computer screen but it was all "scratchy" and was moving across the screen. I changed the resolution and it became black and gray lines moving up and down the screen. I was wondering how can I hook my computer up to this older TV to watch movies online (I wont be upset with low quality). Do I need to purchase the Apple brand adapter or is there some "tweeking" I can do to make the Dynex one work? thanks

Honestly, I was afraid of this... Oh well, I bought it off ebay and got my money refunded so no harm done. Thanks for the help and if anyone can figure some application or anything and get their adaptor to work, please contact me thanks....

  • DVI to s-video/ composite Video Adaptors- diff b/w 2 Apple products?

I am trying to get information regarding the difference between 2
    Apple display accessories.
    - Apple PAL DVI to Video Adaptor -Apple part number MA026ZM/A
    - Apple DVI to Video Adaptor -Apple part number M9267G/A
The second is not just an NTSC version of the first, in that it
supports both PAL and NTSC - and apparently the Pin outs are
different for both. I am trying to work out which will give a better
result for PAL video output (interlace timings etc). Kbase articles
just say that M9267G/A supports both NTSC and PAL and that MA026ZM/A
supports PAL. It seems strange that the PAL item exists if the other
adaptor supports PAL also ? Apple Australia say they don't know.
    thoughts ? thanks in advance

  • Mini DVI to S-video/Composite hooked to a projector

    Hi all,
I have recently opted to sell my PB 17 as I was tired of having a brick on my back all the time.
I hoped apple would do a new 12' but alas it didn't happen.
In any way, I mostly use my book for clients presentations.
I am having an awful problem.
I bought a minidvi to svideo, and connected it to different projectors and chose the right res for the task!
everything on the screen (projector) is blurred as ****.
I cannot manage to get a crisp picture from the projector and this is very annoying.
I am buffed up with the max ram on a blackbook.
this is very annoying as this is the main task i require my book to do.
Is there any way to get this thing working using svideo
    thanX in advance
    JM

Plug it in using miniDVI (or whatever it is on the Macbook) to VGA adapter
    much better quality then
I do it at home with my PB 17" and projector
(getting MacBook too and will buy miniDV to VGA adapter for that too)

  • Trouble with DVI to S-Video/Composite on 480i TV

Please help. Just connected my 480i TV with my 2008 mac mini. First connection worked perfectly. I changed the screen resolution and now all I have is a flickering black & white tv. I've tried almost every possible screen resolution with no luck.
    Help?

I can explain the behavior with AirDisplay. OS X has the ability to store different display settings according to how many screens are in use. AirDisplay counts as two screens being in use, same as like attaching an external display to a laptop. So OS X is using different settings for that configuration. As soon as the second display goes away, OS X reverts to settings last in use for the single display configuration.
Maybe restarting in Safe mode and changing the resolution to 480i will be all you need to do. That is also covered in the link the was previously sent.

  • S-Video/Composite Adapter?  WHERE??

I'm more than a little irritated that Apple has removed the TV adapter from the store without posting an "out of stock" or "coming soon" or "discontinued" notice. The Mini's page still sports a picture of the non-existent item, complete with a link to yet ANOTHER page which touts it as an option. I was considering a Mini to add a node to the living room; fat lotta good it does me now. I'm aware of USB devices that perform this function, but for one thing an extra box & cable occupying a precious USB 2.0 port is not what I'd call elegant, and for another I refuse to spend $499+ to find out whether or not the Mini has problems running "headless". Sorry I have nothing more than a rant to offer.

Hmm. I was able to find it at the Store.

  • DVI --- S-Video/Composite - Blinking?

I have a DVI to S-Video/Composite adapter that I'm plugging into a video mixer for Keynote presentations, that displays on various resolution monitors (some are regular TVs while others are flat screen LCDs). Seemingly without reason, all the monitors begin blinking until I unplug / plug the connection back in again. From that point on, sometimes my presentation has no issues at all, while other times it seems to immediately start happening again. Has anyone experienced this issue as well?
    Running 800 x 600, 60hz (NTSC)

  • DVI to s-video TV display

what I want to do: I want to be able to use my tv as a second display to watch movies on etc.
What I have: Macbook pro 15in with a DVI Out, DVI to s-video/ composite adapter.
RF modulator for the tv as it is an old tv with only coaxel in, the RF modulator has an s-video and composite in.
Ive tried hooking up the dvi to s_video adapter to the dvi port, the s-video cable to that converter then to the rf modualtor, the rf modulator is hooked up to the tv and is working properly. I tune the tv to channel 4 like i do for my ps2... no dice. when I hook my macbook pro up to my dvi monitor it auto detects is and displays. it does not do this however with my tv. I have tried testing displays and changing the resolution down to 800x600 AND lower, still no go. What do i need to do? does it involve the F7 button?? bc ive pushed it... infact i have no idea what that does, i thought it was a display button. guess not.

turns out the dvi to s-video converter was kinda sorta broke, I had to jam the cable down into the s-video and rca plastic piece, I guess it wasnt making a perfect condition. Oh well works now.

  • DVI to S-video connector?

I'm looking at buying a cable to extend my display onto a TV. Apple sells the mini-DVI to S-video/Composite adapter but doesn't say if it works for the Powerbook G4 15". I would assume that if it works for the 12" it would also work for the 15" and 17" versions, but I'm looking for confirmation before I go spend $20 on it. The cable I'm thinking of can be found here:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=4D2 4B4AB&nplm=M9319G%2FA
I'm wary because many of the descriptions include the qualifier "ONLY" before naming the compatible systems.

You're absolutely right. I wasn't with my Powerbook when I asked this question, so in any event, I thought if the S-Video jack ever got damaged or malfunctioned, I would have a backup. Having the Powerbook in front of me now it definitely came with everything I'll need so I guess this was just a test post and now you get points for replying. I'll still need to buy one as a gift though. Thanks.

  • DVI to Component Video - Compatibility Question

Hello, everyone. I am in a pickle with my soon to be new Mac Mini, concerning the issue of hooking it up to a TV for use as a monitor.
My problem is thus: The TV is a 26" LCD with only a maximum of a Component Video input (no VGA or HDMI), and the Mini has only DVI out. I have seen a cable and/or adapter on the internet that converts DVI to Component, but there is a warning that says the DVI port must support it, or the graphics card must support it. I am wondering if anyone knew if this would work with the Mac Mini. My only other alternative is to use the DVI to Video adapter with S-Video, which on the 1368x768 TV would be inferior. I would prefer component, but am unsure if it would even work because Apple's Tech Specs on the Mini lists only DVI to VGA conversion or the S-Video/Composite adapter, and does not specifically say if it supports Component.
Any support would be GREATLY appreciated, as I have been up for three hours into the wee hours researching all the aspects of my problem, and am unable to figure it out. THANK YOU!
    Duncan
EDIT: Here is a link to the adapter: http://sewelldirect.com/dvivideoadapter.asp
    And cable: http://sewelldirect.com/DVI-to-Component-Adapter-Cable-6ft.asp
That way you can see what I mean about that cryptic warning. All I need to know is if the Mac Mini can support that sucker! Thanks again!

Our local video "expert" is BSteely, and hopefully he will weigh in on your question.

The impression I get is that you might need a more expensive adapter to convert DVI to component.
BTW can you give us the model number of your LCD TV? Thanks!
AppleTV is probably better suited for a component-only TV, though the Mini can certainly do a good job when the TV does have digital or VGA inputs.

  • When I unplug Mini-dvi to S-video adapter mouse often disappears

When I unplug my mini-dvi to s-video/rca adapter, the mouse cursor often disappears. This results in me having to restart the computer. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

At what resolution? Have you tried different ones?

  • No display after sleep with macmini using DVI - S-video/composite under XP

Hi guys, I have installed XP on my mini. I have CRT TV so I'm using
DVI -> S-video/composite to output to my TV.
The problem is after sleep - there is no display (it's woking only after reset).
I installed the latest drivers from the mac os 10.5 DVD & updated the graphics driver from Intel.
    Please help

Unfortunately, no answer, as I'm having the similar problem with a Samsung SyncMaster 215tw and a G4 Mini. It works with the DVI-VGA adapter and the VGA cable into the montor's VGA port. However, connecting with the G$ Mini's DVI port with the monitor's DVI port using a DVI cable doesn't work. I cannot figure out why this doesn't work.
The DVI cable is good and the monitor's DVI port is good, as the connection does work using my friend's Intel Mini's DVI port connected to the monitor's DVI port using the DVI cable.
The monitor is new, too, and otherwise works fine with my other Macs connected with the VGA port. (I've not tried the additional ports as yet.)
Although the monitor is supposed to synchroize automatically, I also tried manually presetting the G4 Mini to different resolutions, but that didn't make any difference. The screen remains black when it should be showing the booting Apple icon.
Any idea what is going wrong here, please, as it sounds as if this same thing occurs with various monitors?
