General Java3D Art question

Hello everyone, was hoping that someone could point me in the direction of any documentation that might exist for guidelines on building 3d models and graphics for Java3D. Ideally, it would include information about what features are supported, and how settings, on shaders or lighting for example, translate to java3d.
If something like this doesn't exist, I'd consider making one, so any art related documentation that anyone could point me in the direction of, would also be helpful.
Thanks in advance for any assistance... Also, I'm new to the forums, so if anyone has a suggestion on a forum this topic might be more relevant to, feel free to offer it. Thanks again.

Sorry, I think I probably didn't clearly explain what I'm looking for, I'm already a fluent user of 3d studio MAX, with numerous years of professional experience in realtime engines...
What I'm looking for is what features out of max are supported, and what features translate over to Java3d... For example, the specular settings of a shader on a model carries over it's color from MAX, which is something that I'm not accustomed to in the other engines I've used, so wondering if there is any documentation on this topic, are multi sub object materials supported? is userdata? keyframe animation,? mesh-deformation? bones animation and character studio? Which map channels are exported? can it do reflections? refractions? etc etc... Just wondering if any documentation on this topic exists, either official, or made by users, it's definitely helpful to have as reference when working with any engine.
Any ideas if something like this is out there somewhere or not?

  • Podcast Art Question

    Hi all,
Ultra newbie here with probably an obvious question.  I recently submitted two separate podcasts to iTunes, and they both seem to be up and running in the store.  Right now, the art that goes with them is not there--just the generic podcast icon.  I gather from what I've seen on this forum that this is pretty much par for the course--the podcast goes live long before the associated cover art appears in iTunes.  In both cases, when I submitted my feed (I'm using Feedburner), the art popped up on the confirmation page, so I assume all is basically well.
I have two slightly more subtle questions, though.  First, I've subscribed to both podcasts myself to make sure they would download okay, and they do.  In the case of the first one (the art of rhetoric one), it even shows up with the cover art, even though it doesn't appear in the iTunes store yet (which, I assume, means it's just a matter of time before it *does* show up).  With the second podcast, however, the episode downloads, but unlike the other podcast, the art doesn't get downloaded with it--just the same old podcast icon.  Is this just a fluke, or is this cause for concern that there's something wrong with the image?
A second minor question is that with the art of rhetoric podcast (i.e., the one that *does* download the cover art with the episode), the art appears, but the right and left edges are cut off just a bit.  I thought I had been incredibly careful to format the jpeg to be precisely square at 300 x 300 (the numbers I saw recommended by iTunes).  It's easy enough to rejigger the jpeg to allow for more margin space, if that's necessary.  The question is this: if I change the link to this cover art jpeg with Feedburner, will it then automatically change (eventually) in iTunes?
Below are the itunes links to the two podcasts.
Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie!

    Hi again,
I *think* I've figured out the problem.  I was a bit thrown by the note that there wasn't a media file associated with the new Rhetoric episode since I had certainly uploaded one, but thanks to your prodding, I went back and figured out (probably) what the source of confusion was.
When setting up my podcast feed using the combo of Blogger and Feedburner, the instructions said to make sure to show the link dialog box in the header for each new blog post associated with the podcast in addition to the title.  I did that and was dutifully including a link to the media file in that dialog box when making a new post.  I had assumed that this was the link that "assocated" the linked media file with the blog post (and, hence, the feed generated by feedburner).
That seems to have worked in the posts for the "Headlines" podcast, but in the Rhetoric podcast, I noticed that I had also linked to the media file in the text of the blog post itself, not just in the link dialog at the top, in the first post.  In the second one, I had not.  When I viewed my feed details in Feedburner, I was given the option to "Play Now" the podcast for the first lecture, but not the second.  I went back and included a link to the media file in the actual text of the blog post for the second lecture, and went back to Feedburner.  Now, I was given the "Play Now" option for both lectures.  I assumes his means that now there truly is a media file associated with this post, and next time iTunes checks, things will be hunky dory.  We'll see.
I'm still not quite sure why I had to link to the media file in the text of the blog post for one feed, but don't seem to have needed to do that with the other.  It's not a problem to do so, but I'd be a bit more comfortable if I knew why this was the case.
At any rate, thanks again for the help.  I'll likely have more questions as things continue, but I'm keeping fingers crossed that I've managed to get things up and going now at long last.
    Cheers,
    Ted

  • General Airport Extreme questions

I have some general questions regarding the dual band technology and how it relates to my specific setup. A bit of background:
I have 20Mbps cable internet and I am running the new Airport Extreme on a pc running XP to broadcast my wireless signal. I have an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad. I also have an Airport Express that I use in bridge mode so that I can connect my PS3 in a wired fashion.
    My questions:
-How do wireless networks work when you have both "g" and "n" devices? (which I do)
Does the router send out simultaneously a 2.4 and 5.0 signal for each capable device to pick up? Do the g devices pick up the 2.4 signal while the n devices pick up the 5.0? Or do all devices pick up the 2.4 signal since there are non "n" rated devices on the network? I have read many conflicting ideas on this.
    - I have spoken with multiple Apple customer service people and have gotten differing advice on how to improve my devices' connectivity to the network as I have been experiencing unacceptable levels of interference on all devices.
One rep reccomended that in the Airport Utilities, under wireless options that I check the 5GHz box to setup a seperate 5GHZ network for the n devices. Another rep dismissed this idea.
Does creating this new 5.0 network keep the network signal from being bumped down to "g" speeds when "g" rated devices are connected?
How am I to better off setting my networks up so that my n devices as well as my g devices get the best performance and connectivity?
-I use an Airport Express in bridge mode with my PS3 and it seems to be helping my connections speeds. When I was connected wirelessly, the speeds would either be non-existent or unacceptable. I know the PS3 has a "g" antenna. I have the airport express connected to the 5.0ghz wireless network in Airport Utilities. Am I actally now connecting to the 5.0ghz signal and converting to the PS3 at higher bandwidth then I would be otherwise if I was connected to the 2.4ghz wireless signal?
I appologize for the longwinded post.
Any insight I will be most appreciated as I am banging my head against the wall here.
    Scott

The default setup for the AirPort Extreme provides a dual band wireless network with a Radio Mode that looks like this:
    802.11a/n --- 802.11n/g/b
The 5 GHz band is on the left and the 2.4 GHz is on the right of the --- dashes
Also as a default, the same wireless network name is used for both bands. The theory here is that any device will automatically connect to the best signal quality. This works great for older "g" devices because they can only connect to the 2.4 GHz band, so you know where they will be at all times. You never need to be concerned about a "g" device slowing down a faster "n" device on the 5 GHz band because the "g" device cannot even connect to the 5 GHz band.
But note that newer "n" devices can connect to either the 5 GHz band or the 2.4 GHz band. So, it's possible that you may have a "n" device and a "g" device on the 2.4 GHz band and the "n" connection will slow a bit if the "g" device is really active.
It gets a bit more complicated if you have a new iPhone, which can connect at "n" speeds, but only to the 2.4 GHz band. The new iPad can connect to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.
Most users are better off if they leave the settings as recommended on the AirPort Extreme. That's because each device will connect to the band with the best available signal quality. Isn't that what you really want?
If you will concentrate on signal quality, which is a combination of signal strength and low noise, you'll be fine.
Most problems arise when users think that they want to connect to the 5 GHz band because the speeds can be faster there. So, they assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network and then "point" their computer at that band. The potential issue with doing this is that 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals.
So, if the computer is several rooms away and you have "forced" it to connect to 5 GHz, you are likely telling it to connect to a signal that is both +weaker and slower+ than the 2.4 GHz signal at that location. The signal always slows down as it moves further from the router or encounters obstructions.
As I said, most users will do well to use the default settings and let each device find the best connection automatically. With a mix of a number of devices, you'll never be able to find the single "perfect" setting. With wireless, there are always compromises. No way to avoid that, I'm afraid.

  • Complicated album art question

here is what i have: an album made up of songs by different artists - such as an 80's album. I have put the individual album art for each song, rather than one generic album cover.
so, while viewing the albums in Cover Flow, the first track is generally the album art that is displayed for the 80's album. However, is some rare occasions, a random track within the album is displayed for the album art.
any idea why, and an idea how to set the album art to come from the first track?

Part of that 157.5mb is probably for files that iPod needs to operate. I removed the album art and other was still about 76mb on my iPod.
Also, I noticed that if I added a video, the size of other went up about 1-2mb. So there are probably some support files that get created. Also, Games would be in the Other category, as well as Contacts. Audiobooks are probably in the Audio category.
Even if you never used the iPod as a hard drive, you may want to +Enable disk use+ and open it up in a Windows Explorer window.
Ultimately, you can use the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and then re-sync it.

  • Serious Album Art Question!

    here is the situation,
for the songs i have purchased it works perfectly,
however, for other songs that i have that i have applied album art too, even though when i select it in the iTunes the album art is the same for the whole album, for other albums it seems to pick other random album art for about 75% of the songs, this happened twice overall,
in that i have deleted all the songs and reloaded them twice so far and it still doesn't work
please help, feel free to ask any specific questions

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
So the wrong album art is showing up for some songs on your iPod?
    Try this...
Connect the iPod to the computer. Go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Make sure "Show artwork on iPod" is checked. If it is, uncheck it. Click ok. Now go back and recheck the option. Click ok. Wait for the iPod to update. Is the artwork now there and displaying correctly?
If not, then do the same steps again. However, this time, let the iPod update and then eject it once you uncheck the option. Then disconnect it from the computer. Now reconnect it and enable the option. iTunes should say "optimizng artwork for iPod"
If that doesn't work, you may need to restore...
    Restore the iPod

  • Unique Album Art Question

I have spent days scouring these message boards to make sure I wasn't asking a repeat question. I am running iTunes 7.3.2 and I'm having a problem with album art making it to my video iPod. My iPod will not display album art for half of my music that HAS ALBUM ART APEARING IN ITUNES. I have copied and pasted, and I have clicked and dragged, but my iPod will not display album art for some of my music. EVEN SONGS I HAVE PURCHASED FROM THE iTMS.
When my iPod is plugged in to my computer, all of the tracks appear to have album art, but when I unplug it and select songs on my iPod, there are some songs, and some entire albums that HAVE ALBUM ART, but my iPod ignores this. Any suggestions?
I wasn't sure if this was an iTunes problem, or an iPod problem.

Have you tried restoring your ipod? That would be an easy, first step, provided you have all of your music and media still in your itunes library.

  • Uploading album art question? I have the artwork.

OK I have the album artwork I am trying to upload in a folder in "my pictures" on my fifth gen I pod. I can go to my library and upload the picture to each song on an album from my folder of album art but I'm unable to highlite and do the whole album in one shot , I have to click each individual song on the album and load the artwork.
My question is what am I missing in the whole process to load the artwork to the whole album on my i Pod without having to do it for each song on that album?
Thanks for the help I just figured there was some simple trick I was missing. I even tried the drag and drop method with no luck and I do have the artwork enabled and have all of the ones I did one at a time showing up.

In the search field in iTunes, type in the name of the album.
All the songs in the album should appear. Click one of them. Now go to edit-->select all.
All the songs in that album should be highlighted.
Right click one, making sure that all stay highlighted. Go to get info. Click yes to the message the appears.
On the right side of the window that appears is an area for album art. Right click the box and go to paste. The album art should now appear there. Check the box next to the artwork box. Click OK.
Those songs should now have that piece of artwork.

  • What formatting/zooming features do YOU use in Photoshop CS6? (Digital art question)

Hi, I am a beginner dabbling in digital art, and I was wondering what format you use. Examples include "Default Photoshop size", "U.S. Paper", "Web", etcetera. I feel that the paper, without doing anything to it, is too small for details.
Also, when what do the pros in digital art do as for zooming in? Do they set it "Fit on screen", "100%", "200%"? I'm talking about maybe concept paintings that have very small and fine details.
Sorry my questions are sort of awkwardly-phrased. I don't know the correct terminology.

The size and resolution depends on the intended output.
In my opinion relevant zooming shortcuts would be cmd-0 (View > Fit on Screen), cmd-1 (View > 100%) and cmd-spacebar/cmd-alt-spacebar to temporarily switch the current Tool to the Zoom Tool.

  • Some general portal caching questions

    Hi experts,
I have some general questions regarding caching functions in portal.
    1. In System administration->Navigation I can activate navigation cache. By default there are 3 connectors: Collaboration Connector, ROLES and gpn.
I guess Collaboration Connector caches Collaboration Content and Roles caches the content of the Role-based navigation? Is that correct? What is gpn-connector?
    2. This cache does only cache the navigation structures? Not the iviews and the content?
    3. For some iViews and pages I can activate caching in PCD with certain cache levels. That caching is not related to navigation caching?
    4. I can't activate caching for web dynpro Java iviews and web dynpro java proxy pages. Is that corect? If not how can I achieve that. Those settings are deactivated for me, so I can't activate them.
    5. In Visual Admin I can activate navigation cache under com.sap.portal.prt.sapj2ee. Is this option related to the setting I can set under system administration->navigation in portal? Because I avtivated the option in portal but in VA it still showed it as not activated.
I crawled some documentation but couldn't find exact information.
    Thanks and regards
    Manuel

    Hi,
    1. GPN is Guided Procedures Navigation connector
    2. Yes only Navigation nodes are cached (TopLevel and Detailed Navigation nodes)
    3. Here it is PCD Caching, which has nothing to do with Navigation caching
    4.  I never tried this, but It looks like what you say is true.
    5. What you see in VA is old caching mechanism. So this is obsolete and can be ignored.
So you should only use the options from system administration->navigation
    Changes in the Navigation Cache

  • Some General iPhone 4 questions

We just bought my wife a used iPhone 4 and (a little late now) we have some questions.
Generally the questions revolve around the issues the iPhone 4 had when they were first released - something about the antennae location. How was that resolved? and if so how?
Is there a way to determine when an iPhone was manufactured or how old it is?
I see in the forum 'refined' lineup there are iPhone 4 forums for both GSM and CDMA - where is that shown on the iPhone?
The primary issue we are having is with signal strength. Since it's 'hers' I only hear about it so don't get much chance to see for myself.
    Thank you for any help

  • Yet another missing album art question...

OK, I just received my second 80 GB Apple ipod Classic. The first one was defective out of the box and this (these?) is (are?) my first ipod. I'd heard all the horror stories about itunes and since I have other media players, ripping and tagging utilities I'm happy with, I really have no intention of using itunes for anything more then updating my ipod and manually synching my music.
I do have one question though. How do I get album art to display for my music? First of all, I unchecked every option in itunes that I could find about updating missing data and downloading album art. I even unchecked the box under My ipod that says "show album art" (maybe mistakenly thinking that was referring to synching album art. All of my mp3's are tagged properly and have the album art, scanned by me from my actual discs embedded in the file in the album art tag. I would think these should display if the ipod is capable of displaying album art, regardless of any checkboxes I've fooled with in itunes but all I get on my ipod are little gray boxes with black musical note symbols in them.
What did I do wrong? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

That's indeed the reason your album art doesn't show on the iPod. Check this box, maybe resync, and the iPod should show the images you embedded in the mp3-files.

  • Complicated itunes / ipod Album Art Question?

This is a rather complicated question so I hope someone can help me. I have a 5th gen video ipod and run itunes (latest version 7.5) on Windows XP. I keep all my music on my home computer, syncing it daily with my ipod. I take my ipod to work and attach it to my PC there so I can listen through the speakers. I have to switch my ipod to the Manually Manage Music to be able to play it on that machine. What I want to do is see all the album artwork as I play them on that machine but only the artwork for music I have bought from itunes shows up on the work computer. All the art is on my ipod because if I listen to it detached from the PC all my art shows up on it. And I do have my ipod set to sync the album art.

If you can find the cover art you want online, you can just tell iTunes to forget the artwork for those songs and add the art you want manually.

  • General Macbook Pro questions...

I am VERY new to the Mac world and had a few questions. Any answers are greatly appreciated!
*The bottom of my macbook pro gets hot. I was told not to set it on my lap or another soft surface because it doesnt allow air in or out. My question is, I have bought a carbon fiber protective case for it. Is that ok to use or will that also prevent the flow of air?
*Is it ok to use my macbook pro while it is pluged in? Meaning will it damage the battery in any way If I use it while it is charging?
*Does any one have any tips on preventive maintence? I would just like to know is there anything I can do to keep my investment in top performance.
    Thanks for any answers!

The laptop does get hot, more so with greater activity and using the higher-performance graphics cards. Generally-speaking, a protective case will impede some heat transfer and MAY cause overheating, though presumably the manufacturer of the protective case has tested it to see if there's a problem. It's not so much a matter of air-flow (there's no vents/fans there), but radiant dissipation. The aluminum unibody is very robust, so you may not want to use the case anyway.
It's perfectly fine to use the computer when it's plugged in. It won't damage the battery in any way or reduce the battery life. However, it's good to, every once in a while, exercise the battery by using it up completely and then recharging (maybe every month or two).
There's really no preventative maintenance required. The system should perform any system maintenance periodically and independently. The only thing you really want to look out for is that it's best if you never let your hard-disk get > 90% full.
As for Time Machine, it's not "like a hard-drive". Time Machine is a versioning backup system. That is to say, it maintains a copy of your system and past versions of files on that system. If you delete a file (or e-mail message) by accident, you can recover it through Time Machine. When the user activates Time Machine, they see the current window filled with messages/icons and a bar indicating various points in time. You slide your mouse over the bar to select a particular point in time, and it restores your files to the way there were at that time. It's not a conventional backup solution (like mirroring the
disk), but it does solve a problem. You might prefer more conventional backup solutions, such as mirroring the disk to create a bootable backup disk.
You can use your old WD external 2TB drive from your Windows PC with your Mac. If you intend to use it exclusively with your Mac, I would suggest that you reformat it using the Mac filesystem (HFS+) and a GPT-type partition table (what Macs use, but also high-end PCs and servers).

  • General and specific questions on the applicability of Sun Studio 11

Hi. In an e-mail letter from Sun Microsystems I read about Sun Studio 11 to "utilize its record-setting parallelizing compilers." From this message I was attracted by the possibility of adding something like parallel processing, not by changing the processor (hardware), but by adding Sun-Studio-11 software to a Linux operating system. Now I already have a Fortran compiler, the Intel Fortran Compiler for Linux, which is free and can handle Cray-style pointers, a feature hard to find in a free Fortran compiler.
1a. So for the most basic of questions, without having parallel-processing hardware, just an ordinary processor [a 1-GigaHertz (GHz) Advanced MicroDevices Duron central processing unit, in my case], is it possible to have parallel processing and thereby increase one's computing speed by installing Sun Studio 11 in a Linux operating system?
1b. If so, by what factor could one expect the speed of computation to increase over not having Sun Studio 11 installed? (If the gain in speed is dependent on the type of computations being performed, I imagine possibly using a Fortran code to perform numerical calculations using and perhaps searching for minima or maxima in a two-or-more-dimensional surface. So please give me an idea of the sort of gain in speed one could expect for these two types of activites, calculations using formulas and searches for minima and maxima among already-computed quantities.)
1c. Again if so, how could one just by adding software have parallel processing without two or more hardware processors? In other words, what is the basic working principle of the software to make the simultaneous performance of multiple tasks (multitasking or parallel processing) possible?
2a. Does Sun Studio 11 include a Fortan compiler?
2b. If so, must one use it to have parallel processing with Sun Studio 11?
2c. Or will the Intel Fortran Compiler for Linux work with Sun Studio 11 to have a parallel processing capability?
Concerning hardware requirements I read that Sun Studio 11 requires a minimum of 512 MegaBytes (MB) of memory, presumably Random Access Memory (RAM). My Hewlett-Packard, ZE1110, Pavilion, notebook computer has 256 MB of RAM, but is expandable to a maximum of 512 MB of RAM. So in this respect it is in principle at least technically possible for me to meet the minimum system requirement for Sun Studio 11 with my computer, if I choose to increase its RAM. Somehow accommodating the cost of such a RAM addition, including whether one may have to buy two, matching, 256-MB RAM modules or just presumably one additional 256-RAM module, is another requirement. But before spending money for such an upgrade, one should first thoroughly investigate other matters to determine if other things are going to work and to determine what gain, if any, one could expect in computing speed with Sun Studio 11 and an additional 256 MB of RAM; then decide, based on such data, whether the purchase is personally worth the money or not. That's one motivation behind this posting; another motivation is for me to learn some things.
Lastly I would like to here thank whoever was thoughtful enough to provide the Sun Download Manager (SDM) 2.0, which allows the pausing and resumption of the 207-MB download studio11-lin-x86.tar.bz2 for the Linux version of the Sun Studio 11! Using a slow, dialup, Internet connection like mine having a maximum speed of 28.8 kilobits/second, this makes it possible to download that file over a number of Internet sessions instead of having to have an uninterrupted, 19-or-more-hour Internet session. Besides the invconvenience of tying up one's telephone line for that long a time, it might be even be difficult to have such an uninterrupted Internet session for that long a time. I have at least started such a download using the SDM 2.0 potentially over multiple Internet sessions. Whether or not I carry it out to completion could depend on whether everything looks good with Sun Studio 11 for my particular situation. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for both of your postings here. I'm mostly trying to learn something here.
From Maxim Kartashev: "For example, if one thread (or process, or lwp) frequently performs an I/O operation, then the other thread (process, lwp) can utilize processor resources to perform, say, some computations while first one waits for operation to complete."
I think I might understand what you meant above. I guess lwp in the above context stands for light-weight process. And I think you may be talking about a potential gain in speed with just one, ordinary processor. I guess you meant that one program, or perhaps group of programs, could perform input/output processes at the same time it is performing calculations because different parts of the processor are being used in these two groups of processes. Then on "while first one waits for operation to complete" I guess you meant that if the input/output operations finish before the computations finish, then thread 1 that was performing the input/output operations will have to wait until the current computations ordered by thread 2 are complete before thread 1 can utilize the computational resources for its own computations; i.e., two threads can't use the same computational resources of an ordinary processor at the same time. How is my thinking so far, Maxim, right, partly right, or all wrong?
Now if the above thinking of mine is right, then it appears that one could have some gain in speed doing things like you suggest with just one, ordinary processor. And if so, I imagine that the gain could be a maximum of a factor of two for a program that requires spending as much time in input and output as it does in computation; i.e., keeping both the computational and input/output resources working all of the time without the input/output resources waiting on the computational resources or vice versa. How is my thinking here?
If the above thinking is correct, just for purposes of discussion with just one, ordinary processor, not a dual processor, and a program which does nothing but computations there would be no gain in speed using Sun Studio 11 and a Fortran compiler over not using Sun Studio 11. In other words, to increase the speed of computation one would have to buy a faster computer, buy parallel processing hardware for an existing computer and use parallel-processing software, or somehow figure out how to harness two or more computers to work for you at the same time with instructions from one piece or perhaps set of pieces of code set up for parallel processing using two or more different computers. The latter case would be a computer analogue or "two 'heads' are better than one," not human heads, but computers. How is my thinking here?
Here I am still assuming that it is possible for one processor to be used to do two different kinds things at once. However, I don't see how one Fortran program could instruct two things to be done at once. This is because I have not seriously studied parallel processing, I suppose. That is I am used to a sequential set of instructions that proceed from top to botton down the lines of code; i.e., one instruction or line of code can't be executed until the line of code before it has been completely executed. That is the computing "world" with which I am familiar. So how about someone here teaching me with an example of parallel-processing Fortran code how parallel processing works, explaining what instruction or group of instructions tells the computer to execute input and computational instructions at the same time?
Based on the encouraging information from one or more other people I have been able to use the Intel Fortran for Linux 8.1.024, if I remember correctly, in a computer with a 1-GigaHertz (GHz), Advanced MicroDevices (A.M.D.), Duron Processor. So this is at least one case where it is not essential to have an Intel processor to use the Intel Fortran Compiler for Linux 8.1.024.
Is the Sun Fortran compiler free for personal use? And can it handle Cray-style pointers?

  • Ascii-line art question

    Hi,
I have made a series of ascii-drawings as illustrations for a story book.
This is very font sensitive and the font that I am using is "Courier".
    An example is shown below.
                                                           ~V~
        ~V~                                          ~V~    )           ~V~
         )                                            ) >-~-<            )
    >-~-<                                        >-~-<  \  /~       >-~-<
    \,,,,\,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,\,,/~,,,,,,,,,,,,,/,,,/~,,,,,,,
I need to make large sized prints of these ascii drawings, for a gallery show.
I am a newbie when it comes to digital art production. Any suggestions?
Would re-typing these pictures in adobe illustrator in Courier font at a large font size work?
    Are there any better methods?

There is no good reason to convert the type to outlines. Simply export to PDF with fonts embedded. Converting to outlines bloats the file and can result in blotchy text at smaller magnifications. Text realized via fonts using intelligent scaling via the "hinting" in the fonts. There is no downside to embedding the fonts.
