Generate xml output file from relational table

Hi All,
I'd like to generate an XML file from a relational table but would like to persist the XSD in Oracle does anyone have a working example?

From the FAQ on the {forum:id=34} forum, {thread:id=416001}.
If you are wanting to register the schemas in Oracle, you will find info on that as well in the FAQ.

  • How to Generate XML Output file

    Hi,
    I want to print sample output XML file.
    I got this link 362496.1
    An output file can be generated via the Preview functionality available under the XML Publisher Administrator responsibility. Navigation path :
    1. Login to the application as SYSADMIN
    2. Responsibility: XML Publisher Administrator
    3. Function: Templates
    4. Select a Template for which a Preview Data file has been uploaded in the past.
    5. Click on the Preview icon
    6. Save the PDF to the client PC
    7. Determine the version either by the above instructions OR by provide the PDF file to Global Customer Support.But in #4 I can not populate any values to search, even if I put all %.
    How can I get a valid search?
    Thanks a lot,

    Hi;
    AFAIK if you prepare template in XML publisher than you can take output as pdf, by the way you can take xml output too
    Please check user guide:

  • How to create xml file from relational tables in 10gR2

    Hi,
    I am very new to XML and was wondering how to create an XML file from querying relational tables. Some child tables may contain multiple rows that need to be returned in certain instances. Other queries will just be single or multiple rows from one or more tables. I would like to use the latest feathers in 10gR2. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi stejsky,
    Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
    >>In my project I use the option /doc to generate XML doc file from my source codes but unfortunately in the output XML file there are mixed also comments from original MFC source codes.
    Based on your issue, could you please tell me how you use the option /doc to generate XML doc file from your source codes?
    If you use the option /doc to generate the XML doc file by right-click the your MFC project->Properties->Configuration Properties->C/C++->Output file->set the Generate XML document files as Yes(/doc) like the following screen shot.
    (1)If yes, since we could not reproduce your issue in mu side, so if possible, I suggest you could share me your MFC project so that we will further help you support this issue.
    You could upload your MFC project to the OneDrive and then copy link here.
    (2)If no, please try the above way to generate XML doc file and then check if you still get same issue.

  • How to calculate number of data records in a XML output file

    Hi,
    After generating a XML output file from Oracle Reports, I want to calculate number of records in the XML file. Is it possible? Specifically, I want to calculate number of records for a group variable ( organization_id, which I use for bursting).
    Thanks for the help.

    Thanks BIPuser. It is useful for me.
    I can use this xsl function within the template. However, I'm also looking to print this in the concurrent request log file. So, outside of rtf template, id there any PL/SQL based XML functions I can use to count the number of records.
    Thanks.

  • Create Big XML files ( extract ) from Relational Tables

    Experts: I need to create a big XML extract more than 5Gb , from relations tables using SQLX. I read the excellent FAQ given by MDrake in the following thread.
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/418001
    Question
    1) Is it better to use XML schema, My XML output format is pretty much going to be static, so I can register an XML schema .
    2) Does Registering the XMLschema help with better memory management. I recall I used to get out of memory exception when I generated xml documents on oracle 10g using DBMS_XMLGEN.
    3) Can I generate this 5 Gb of XML file using oracle's default DOM parser?
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    1) Is it better to use XML schema, My XML output format is pretty much going to be static, so I can register an XML schema .
    2) Does Registering the XMLschema help with better memory management. I recall I used to get out of memory exception when I generated xml documents on oracle 10g using DBMS_XMLGEN.
    No, an XML schema won't help for the generation.
    It is useful though if you're looking for the opposite task, i.e. loading an XML file into database tables.
    3) Can I generate this 5 Gb of XML file using oracle's default DOM parser?
    What is the default DOM parser ? Do you mean DBMS_XMLDOM APIs?
    Since you want to generate XML, there's not much to parse.
    Generally, using SQL/XML functions is the way to go.
    You may still hit some performance/memory issues while reaching such a size, especially with large XMLAgg aggregation context.
    If you do, you may switch to chunk generation instead. I've got some pretty good result with this approach and the parallel query feature.

  • Generate XML output using DBMS_XMLGEN.getxmltype and not from rdf

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to display output from a particular table in XL format. Out of all the known possible options, I am planning to use the XML publisher to generate XL output.
    For the data source, instead of using the conventional way of creating XML data using rdf,I am planning to use DBMS_XMLGEN.getxmltype pl/sql procedure to generate the XML output. And from the output, call the template to generate the required Excel output.
    Now, I am using the following code to generate XML output but am not sure how to proceed from here. I need to first print the XML data in the FND Output file after which I was planning to call the 'XML Report Publisher' (XDOREPPB) program and use the current request id to get the excel output but I am not able to find the way to print the XML data in the output file as:
    fnd_file.put_line (fnd_file.output, l_xml_type); - is throwing an error as l_xml_type is an XML data output.
    PROCEDURE xml_main (
    errbuf OUT VARCHAR2
    ,retcode OUT VARCHAR2
    ,p_project_from IN VARCHAR2
    ,p_project_to IN VARCHAR2
    AS
    l_xml_type XMLTYPE;
    BEGIN
    SELECT DBMS_XMLGEN.getxmltype
    ('SELECT fnd_global.conc_request_id
    ,TO_CHAR (segment1)
    ,to_char(start_date,''MM/DD/RRRR'')
    ,to_char(xxmcc_project_details_pkg.current_profit_projection
    (project_id),''999,999,990.90'')
    ,to_char(xxmcc_project_details_pkg.cost_to_date (project_id),''999,999,990.90'')
    ,''1''
    FROM pa_projects_all
    WHERE segment1 BETWEEN NVL (p_project_from, segment1)
    AND NVL (p_project_to, segment1)')
    INTO l_xml_type
    FROM DUAL;
         fnd_file.put_line (fnd_file.output, l_xml_type);
    END xml_main;
    Can anyone point me as to how to publish XML output using a PL/SQL procedure (DBMS_XMLGEN.getxmltype)
    Thanks.

    Pl see if the example included in this presentation helps http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/applications/Events/OOW-2006/EBS/S281401_Sridhar_Bogelli.pdf
    Also, you do not need to explicitly call XDOREPPB in later versions of XML Publisher. If you set up everything correctly (as described in the presentation above and the link below) the Output Post Processor is called automatically after the XML file is generated successfully.

  • Creating XML from Relational Tables using java

    I would like to create an XML document by querying relational tables in java
    try {
            connection = getConnection();
            final String qryStr = "select XMLElement( foo, 'bar' ) from dual";
            final OracleXMLQuery qry = new OracleXMLQuery(connection, qryStr);
            final String xmlString = qry.getXMLString();
    I would expect this to give the following result that I get from running the statement in SQL Developer
    select XMLElement( foo, 'bar' ) from dual
    <FOO>bar</FOO>
    Instead I get
    <?xml version = '1.0'?>
    <ERROR>oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: Character ')' is not allowed in an XML tag name.</ERROR>
    Is this the correct way to go about this?

    Is this the correct way to go about this?
    Not really.
    OracleXMLQuery class is the Java-side implementation of DBMS_XMLQUERY APIs.
    It's mostly designed to generate a canonical XML document out of a SQL query.
    Assuming a query like "SELECT col1, col2 FROM my_table", the resulting XML should appear like this :
    <ROWSET>
      <ROW>
        <COL1>123</COL1>
        <COL2>ABC</COL2>
      </ROW>
      <ROW>
        <COL1>456</COL1>
        <COL2>XYZ</COL2>
      </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    So in your test, since the resulting column is not aliased (XMLElement), you're actually trying to generate something like this :
    <ROWSET>
      <ROW>
        <XMLELEMENT(FOO,'BAR')>
          <FOO>bar</FOO>
        </XMLELEMENT(FOO,'BAR')>
      </ROW>
    <ROWSET>
    which of course is invalid, hence the error message.
    If you want to generate only <FOO>bar</FOO> as output, just use a regular PreparedStatement with your query and access the document in the ResultSet with the proper getter.

  • XML Data from Relational Tables

    Hi,
    My requirement is to pull data from relational tables into xml format and port it to the user (either as a file or allow the user to access it directly from their browser). What is the best way to accomplish this. Your suggestions are appreciated.
    thanks.

    Marco,
    Thanks for your reply, did try that , but I want the users to query this view also. Due to the nature of the xml structure I am getting the correct results. May be my xpath query is not right? My xml is as below:
    <node1 attribute-node1 = "somevalue1">
    <cnode1 attribute-cnode1 = "somevalue2">
    <cnode2 attribute-cnode2 = "somevalue3">
    <cnode3>somevalue4</cnode3>
    <cnode4>somevalue5</cnode4>
    </cnode2>
    <cnode2 attribute-cnode2 = "somevlaue6">
    <cnode3>somevalue6</cnode3>
    <cnode4>somevalue7</cnode4>
    </cnode2>
    </cnode1>
    </node1>
    and my requirement is like : the user wants to see only cnode2 with attribute value "somevalue3" (along with the rest of the xml) ie
    <node1 attribute-node1 = "somevalue1">
    <cnode1 attribute-cnode1 = "somevalue2">
    <cnode2 attribute-cnode2 = "somevalue3">
    <cnode3>somevalue4</cnode3>
    <cnode4>somevalue5</cnode4>
    </cnode2>
    </cnode1>
    </node1>
    Need the correct xpath query for this.
    Thanks

  • Most effecient way to generate XML output

    What is the most effecient way to generate XML output using ORACLE.
    Presently I am aware of the following:
    1)DBMS_XMLQUERY
    2)DBMS_XMLGEN
    3)SQLX functions
    We are using the first 2 in our database to generate hierarchical XML. Once the XML is generated the XML file is ftp'd to a UNIX box. Because of the file size restrictions in our UNIX bix we decided not to transform the XML output into XML Attributes.
    The attributes are assigned from an XSLT file and the raw XML file is transformed to a file which has attributes.
    My question is:
    In the Oracle Database release 9.2 is there a better efficient way to genarate the final XML file with Attributes from the database side without using the XSLT. If yes, please give an example how to do this?
    Thank You

    In general the SQL/XML publishing functions are the most efficient way..
    DBMS_XMLQUERY is a legacy technology imlimented in Java. The main advantage is that it can be run outside the database in the mid-tier is required.
    DBMS_XMLGEN is a re-implementation of DBMS_XMLQUERY in 'C' which runs inside the database. In most cases it should be much faster than DBMS_XMLQUERY. It provides some features that are still not availalble in the SQL/XML standard such as the ability to generate XML based on a cursor, and the ability to generate recursive output from a connect by query. It is hoped that future versions of the SQL/XML publishing functions will address these issues.
    Both DBMS_XMLGEN and DBMS_XMLQUERY are somewhat limited in terms of generating complex XML documents with multiple levels of nesting.
    The SQL/XML publishing functions are the preferred way of generating XML from relational data. THey provide the ability to generate extremely complex XML structures from relation data and provide full control over element / attributes names, levels of nested etc. Future development projects will focus on enhancing the performance and functionality of the SQL/XML publishing functions rather than the PL/SQL packages
    In general if you can use SQL/XML publishing functions you should do so.

  • Generate xml source file for Oracle Order Capture Print Quote

    Hi,
    I am new to xml and need to work on creating templates for Print Quote.
    I am trying to generate the xml source file for which I enabled the report in system administrator and set the output to XML and assigned to Quoting Reports responsiblity. I then assigned XML Report Publisher to the same responsiblity.
    I ran the report (Print Quote) and then I am trying to run the XML Report Publisher but I cannot get the request id in the list of values.
    I am able to generate xml source file for other reports like Printed Purchase Order etc.,
    The view output for the (Print Quote) report is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    - <!-- Generated by Oracle Reports version 6.0.8.26.0
    -->
    <ASOPQTER />
    How do I get the xml source file? Or are there seeded templates that I can use to create more templates? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ravi

    Hi, I am in the same position - did this issue ever ger resolved by anyone. I have done a few XMLP reports successfully now using the Word add-in, but customising the Quote output differs from other standard reports.
    If you look at the data definition for Quote it is a 'dummy' definition and has no XML file attached. Does anyone know how I can get the XML format for the report output?
    Also the template uses XSL-FO ?!?!?! rather than RTF - not sure how to work with this, the Oracle docs are not very helpful in this regard either.
    Has anyone successfully managed to customise the Quote print report? Many thanks,
    Roger

  • How to generate XML Publisher report from PLSQL Stored Procedure in APPS

    Hi,
    I have concurrent program of type PLSQL Stored procedure.I need to generate XML Publisher report from the same.I have changed the output of the concurrent program as "XML" but when I tried running it,the XML tags are not generated.Due to this I am unable to create the template.Its a urgent issue.
    Please help me out .
    Thanks in advance.
    Kaveri

    Hi Kaveri
    Sadly there is nothing magic about that output field. The only program type that you can flip it to XML and then magically get XML is for Oracle Reports. For plsql you will need to recode the plsql to generate XML rather than text that you have now.
    You have some options, best option first:
    1. Move the sql to a data template - check the user guide and blog for help or
    2. Use SQL XML or XMLGEN (not great for large datasets) or
    3. Use dbms_output.put_line and write the XML file manually - not performant at all

  • Extracting data from Relational tables in 11.1.2.1

    I want to extract the following data sets from relational tables
    1. Attribute and its associated base member
    2. Smartlist value of an account
    Does any one have a code to extract this kind of data? Even pointing to the correct table names will be helpful.
    Thanks

    The table layouts can be found in the [documentation for EPMA|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-data-models-11121-354684.zip] . If this doesn't work, there are other options to export hierarchies to text files. You can use life cycle management or the [EPMA File Generator|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epma_file_gen_user/launch.html].
