Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occured (13010)

Hi Folks,
I have been getting this error for some time everytime I turn Genius on.  I have tried deleting "iTunes Library Genius.itdbi" from my iTunes fold as some have said but this does not fix it.  I have now registered with iTunes Match and it connot get beyond the first stage on information collection and I suspect it is linked to the same issue.
Can anyone help.
Kind regsards
Pete

I decided to check whether genius would work on another log on account on the same computer (in xp) and it worked like a charm (syncing w/iphone works too). So I simply rebuilt my itunes library on the other account by redirecting itunes to my old library. It still ***** that I had to do that, but at least it works now. I don't know why it didn't work in my windows account, it's exactly the same library! Oh well...

  • Restored Domain from backup, and now "An unknown error occurred"

iWeb (and my own mistakes) messed up my home page, so I decided to restore a backup copy of the Domain file from Time Machine back into user/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Everything copied fine and opened as I hoped in iWeb. No problems there.
But now, whenever I try to publish my site to MobileMe, iWeb gets through the process of uploading all the files, and then gives me a Publishing Error message saying, "An unknown error occurred." (It says this instead of giving the usual dialog box about my site being published, and do I want to visit my site now.) It looks like my site is operating just fine, new files and text published properly. But I can't get the error message to go away.
Any ideas? My site is here: http://web.mac.com/techinnoval

I don't know why, but now it's working fine. I made one change to my Home page, republished, and now no more error. Odd.

  • HT201263 iPhone 4 is in recovery mode but iTunes can not restore it.. Says unknown error occurred  (21) HELP!

I've just got back of holiday and while there my phone decided to turn itself off, it would not come back on unless I plugged it into the wall charger, it said that I had to connect it to iTunes, but being on holiday I couldn't.
So when I got home yesterday I plugged it into my laptop and the Apple logo came on, and then went off again, then back on and off again, it was doing this untill I unplugged it. So I put it into recovery mode and it said Connect to iTunes, so I did. It then said that the phone needed to be restored, iTunes started this process, 'extracting software' it said, and then once that was done it said 'preparing iPhone for restore' but then my phone disconnects itself from the laptop and then connects again then disconnects again. Then iTunes comes up with a message saying 'iTunes can not restore this iPhone 'iPhone', a unkown error occured (21)'
I have tried over and over again to try and do this but it keeps coming up with the same.
Does anyone know what's wrong with my iPhone and how I can fix it?
    Thanks

And what did the error message say?

  • IPod Touch Update 1.1.1 - Unknown error occurred, Wiped my iPod

I attempted the iPod Touch Update 1.1.1. The software downloaded completely, then the progress dialog appeared that it was preparing my iPod for the update. After a lengthy delay I received an error dialog saying that an unknown error had occurred(1602).
After looking through my logs, the only relevant entry I can find is the following in iPodUpdater 3.log:
    2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: device connected (isDFU = 0)
2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: error getting plugin interface for device: 0xe00002be
    2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: an erorr occurred handling a connected device: 0x7d1
    2007-09-27 18:06:56.000 iTunes[432:d03]: _AMRecoveryModeDeviceFinalize: 0x14caa540
This failure left that initial screen of the iPod plugin and iTunes symbol. I closed iTunes and relaunched it, as my iPod wasn't listed in the devices list. Upon relaunch, the iPod was detected but an error dialog appeared and said that my iPod was in a recovery state and had to be restored in order to work. So I restored my iPod and it updated it to 1.1.1.
I have done nothing special to my iPod, I've only had it for a few days, but this update wiped my iPod clean. This is absolutely unacceptable for an update and I am very disappointed in Apple for this. They claim they are keeping the platform locked so things like this don't occur, but clearly it isn't helping.

Mine upgraded from 1.1 flawlessly, but I was holding my breath...
So far, I have never had a glitch like the one described here on my Ipods, but have read similar stories everywhere. This happens on Pocket PC PDAs as well.
I've used my dubious firmware patching abilities to (as they say) brick a couple of things over the years, including a fairly nice Vaio. There was a time (after walking 10 miles through the snow, uphill both ways) that a failed firmware update meant that your computer was useful only as a doorstop if something went wrong.

  • Genius Results Can't Be Updated Now. Unknown Error has Occurred. (4010)

I have all my music stored on a NAS drive. Access to the NAS is through a wired network. (no wireless).
I just upgraded to iTunes 8, tried running Genius and I get the above error. All the time.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

I figured this out by the way. Try looking for something like the following in the file iTunes Music Library.XML
or try looking for one of the characters.
    <string>ï¿¾ä €æ¤€ç€€â´€ä €æ¼€ç€€</string>
You'll find other data associated to that info, like the song location etc. Use that to find the offending file in iTunes.
The XML validator didn't really help me because, while it said there was an invalid character, it didn't tell me where.
By luck, I remembered the location of this particular file. It was the last item in the Genre table in iTunes Library. So I renamed the file in iTunes and re-ran connecting to Genius, this worked for both my MAC and Windows box.
I have a screen shot as well, which I sent to Apple Support.
Apple Support contacted me a couple of days ago and asked for my Genius ID. They just told me to wait to see if there was a fix. They knew about the fixes available in the forums. They didn't say anything definitive about fixing the issue, just to wait a couple of days and see what happens.
You can get the Genius ID by holding down the CTRL key and then go to 'About iTunes' on the menu. You'll see stuff scrolling, to pause, hit the space bar.

  • Can't Update Ipod. An Unknown Error Occurred (1453)

Updating 2nd Gen 8 G iPod Nano on my Dual 1.25 MDD with 10.4.8 to Version 1.0.2. Downloads fine but when it trys to update the firmware I get the above message. Any Ideas????

Hey KickSock and other who've posted,
Okay, I'm not sure if this is related to your issue, but try this:
1 - While you are getting your error message while trying to update in iTunes, go to "My Computer" in Windows Explorer (leave iTune up and running).
2 - Right-click on your iPod's drive, and click on "Eject".
3 - Go back to iTunes, and try to update your iPod again.
Also, although this isn't the same error message, try the technique in this post for error 1417 (when updating your iPod) -> A solution for error 1417, occuring when updating
I hope this helps you guys,

If any post helps or solves your issue, please mark it that way accordingly. Thank you for helping the boards!

  • Genius unknown error occurred (4010)

Every time I try and use the genius feature on itunes 8 the following error is displayed.
'Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (4010). Please try again later'
Having read loads of other posts with this same issue the majority of people suggest that it's down to server overload. I've now tried this at all times of the day and night and I keep getting the same error message!
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem. Never had a problem with Genius before, and now it just started happening. Any info would be great.
I checked if my Library.xml file was valid (using Validator), and it says it was. So I can't even use the "fixes" that were mentioned on the boards.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
