When viewing facebook photos on Safari (or Chrome, or Firefox) on Mac, photos uploaded using iPhoto get displayed in low res. Manually uploaded (through facebook upload tool) photos are displayed ok.

Thank so much for your reply. That portion I comfortable with, but was thinking I could take photos with my mobile phone and have them sync to a folder on my PC as my originals. I dont want to download photo's from my phone. It does work as desired exept the fact that the photos resolution is lower on the PC than the "originals" on the Revel website.
If I right click on the photo in PE and select "download original from revel" it works, but sort of defeats it purpose in my case.
It seems like Photoshop is not importing the pic at the original resolution. ie to me I would expect a "import original resolution" inside photoshop.
I am using PE12.
I dont like to compare PE revel to apple iCloud, but this is how their software works. If I take a photo on my iPhone its on my mac in full res within minutes to do with as I please. This is what I was thinking Revel could do for me and more. Dropbox, Onedrive and Googledrive all support this, but then I have to import it into PE.

I am unable to play a downloaded HD movie from iTunes. SD movies play OK. An error popped up saying something about the display not suitable for HD movies but now all I get is a blank window. I have tried changing the display resolution to no avail.

I have sownloaded an HD movie from iTunes store and when I attempted to play it on my Windows 7 PC a error message popped up saying something about the display not being compatible for HD movies. I have tried changing the display resolution several times but it didn't help. Now it just comes up with a blank screen when I attempt to play it. SD movies work fine. I have the latest version of iTunes installed.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

Apparently the display is required to be HDCP compatible to view HD movies in iTunes. My display isn't so this is my problem. I contacted Apple support and they have agreed to credit me for the HD movie and I have now downloaded the SD version.

Connected a new 27" LED display and only get 1280 resolution

Ok....got the monitor connected through the adapter (AD-TP400) and only get 1280 resolution....how do I get the full res on this monitor?

Interesting. I have your monitor directly connected to a 2010 Mac Pro which has the mini displayport built into the video card. I also still have the original Mac Pro (1,1) it replaced and that has the NVIDIA GeoForce 7300GT with 2 DVI ports, the one on the right being dual-link.
Where did you get the AD-TP400 adapter? I've searched on that part number and can't find it anywhere. I do see that Apple lists a connector which can do that but there is no part number associated with it.

Leopard "Forgets" External Display Resolution

I have a 17" MacBook Pro C2D (Oct 2006 revision) that I use at work with an external display (Dell E197FP) that is connected to the laptop via the DVI-to-VGA adaptor. The Dell has a native display resolution of 1280*1024 @60Hz and this is set via the System Preference's Display panel. The problem is that quite often when I connect the display in the morning OS X (10.5.6, at present) "forgets" the resolution that has been set and reverts back to its default for the display, which is 1152*864 @75Hz. It is baffling to me that it keeps forgetting the selected resolution for the display, despite recognising it, and that it selects such an odd resolution as a default. This happens about once per week at the moment.
Does anyone have an idea what is causing this and how I can stop OS X from being so forgetful?

Are you getting one to extend your desktop? I don't, I use my MacBook with the screen off using my external only with a keyboard and mouse plugged in. I run my Late 2008 2.1GHz MacBook with a GMA X3100 using a 23" Samsung wide ratio no problem in 1680x1050. It is high resolution. Make sure you click "mirror" in Display Prefs. Be certain that you don't simply boot to both because the external will appear grainy and only be putting out the native 1280 X 800 13" MacBook resolution on the new big LCD. There are many different ways to achieve this. With the LCD on and hooked to the MacBook, turn the MacBook on then quickly close lid after the chime. Give it some time. After it boots to the external, I open the lid to provide proper airflow, some may argue it's not needed.

External Display Resolution Issue...

I have a Mid-2012 MPB running Mavericks. Recently, I've tried connecting 2 different external display's to the MBP via an Apple Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor. I can't get the resolution of the connected displays to go above 800 x 600, and it looks awful.
The first screen is a Samsung SyncMaster T260HD with a native res of 1920 x 1200, and the other is a Samsung SyncMaster 933HD, with a native res of 1366 x 768. I plug them into my Windows box via a VGA cable, and it will drive each display at it's native res just fine. So what have I missed to get the MBP to do this???

My MBP has Thunderbolt and I have a mini displayport to DVI adapter. This is connected to the DVI port in the display.
That option key selection did not increase the alternative resolutions available.
I did reset PRAM according to a advise hee in the community. That did not help either.

Cannot set display resolution after upgrading to Mavericks

I have early Mac Mini connected to KVM stitch. Over the weekend I upgraded to Mavericks and it "dowgraded" display resolution from 1920x1200 to 1600x1200 and everythign looks streached. 1920x1200 no longer shows on the list in display properties (1920x1440 shows but it does not look good on my screen). I googled Option key trick and hitting "Scaled" while hold Option key does show some additional resolutions, but not the one I used to have.
Connecting Mac directly to the monitor allowed me to set proper resolution and after removing monitor and pluging mac back into KVM things "held" untill Mac goes to sleep or until reboots.
I am aware that my KVM switch does not communicate EDID but things did work just fine before upgrade to Mavericks.

It sounds like you are getting a graphical anomoly when unplugging an external monitor. I recommend these troubleshooting steps from the article named:

Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.

Mac Mini Mid 2011 problem getting 2560 resolution

I've been told that Mac Mini 2011 would support 2560 resolution however I cant get it to work.
Here is background story.. i used to run this MacMini on a cheap 26" acer using apple Minidisplay adapter to dvi input to Acer.
I ended up buying two 4K Samsung U28D590D in hopes this would be a plug an play affair as Samsung comes with display port and i can simply run a display port to mini display cable. This ended up being true for my wife's macbook Pro (about 6 months old) connected it and runs 2560 no problem, picture is perfect!
Using the same concept and cable on MacMini does not work at all, monitor does not display any picture. If i use HDMI to HDMI ill get 1920.
I also have an additional monitor "Shimian" that is a DVI-D monitor supporting 2560 which i ran on a PC using Geforce GT 610 and ran 2560 no problem. When using Minidisplay adapter to dvi same problem, it does not work at all. (unless apple sells different adapter minidisplay to DVI or DVI-D?)
i'm trying to figure out if this is a hardware problem on Macmini that does not allow this resolution to be supported?
Any help is greatly appreciated!! Here are system specs on MacMini(running upgraded ssd) and Macbook pro.

Display resolution on external monitor

I have purchased a MacBook Pro 17" and happy with the high screen resolution using it as a laptop. Successfully making my Windows desktop obsolete :-), has left me with a nice Dell 30" monitor (which have been running very high resolutions on using Windows).
I have connected the MacBook Pro 17 via Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and can fine chose between mirror the display or using two display mode. The MacBook Pro also detect the screen fine. But I can't get the resolution on the external monitor higher than 1280X800???? If I use the setup without mirroring, the Mac's own display fine shows 19xx x something, while not displaying an similar high resolution option for the external monitor.
What do I do wrong?

You need a dual-link DVI cable to get higher resolutions.

Cannot change display resolution when connected to external display

On my 2.0GHz 13" MacBook, I have no problem with the display resolution when connecting to external display/projector when I am running in Mac OS, everything work perfectly! But things start to get messy when I am running in Windows VISTA 32 (installed within the Boot Camp 2.1). Whenever I connect to any external display/projector via a MiniDisplay-to-VGA cable, the resolutions on both my MacBook LCD and external display/projector drop to 640x480. And i am not able increase the resolution in the Display Settings. Does this mean that I have not installed the latest version of display drivers? Or is it that Apple did not provide the VISTA 32 drivers (in Boot Camp 2.1) that is compatible with the Mini Display port.

Display Resolution and iPhoto (MBA, Mavericks, iPhoto 9.5.1, etc.)

I get an error message saying the resolution is not optimal for iPhoto when I select the bottom option (1024 x 640), but the other two options are so small as to be a strain on the eyes. The bottom control bar is not accessible at that resolution, unless I hit the full screen arrows at the top right.
The "Best for Display" resolution setting is even worse than scaling. Fairly puzzled what to do.

Thanks for the response, but it seems unlikely, since my last computer, a 2006 Powerbook G4, had great iPhoto resolution when the display was set at 1024 x 768.
Any other ideas?

Display Resolution with Beige G3

I am running a G3 Beige with an OWC G4 500 MHz OWC upgrade processor. The machine is running Mac OS 10.4.8 well.
I love to have more choice in the display resolution. A few days ago, I accidentally touched a couple of things, and was able to change the resolution to a higher one. However, when i reboot the machine later, the magic disappeared. I cannot recall what I did to increae the choice of display resolution.
Can you tell me what I can do to change the resolution from 832X624?

You want separate Syncs.
The CRT is supplied with data for its Red, Green, and Blue Electron guns on pairs of wires (or coaxial wires) reserved for them. The CRT sweeps the electron beams across the face of the display and "lights up" one row of dots, then steps down one row, returns to the left side, and gets ready for the next row.
There is no row buffer in the CRT, it displays the Red Green and Blue data "live", 60 or more times a second. The data for each row is supplied at the right instant to display it properly across the row. In order to position the beam properly to display the correct row data, the CRT must know when rows and screens start and end.
Horizontal Sync - tells when a row should start and end. The beams are "blanked" during Horizontal Retrace time.
Vertical Sync - tells when the entire screen should start and end, and the beam should be brought back up to the top. The beams are blanked during the manyrow_timeslong Vertical Retrace time.
Some cheaper monitors combined the Horizontal and Vertical Sync together electrically and provided the combined signal as "Composite Sync". The CRT was responsible for pulling the separate signals out of the composite.
The other trick that saved one more pin in the cable was to combine the Composite Sync information onto the Green data signal. The CRT had to dig out both Horizontal and Vertical Sync from the Green data line. This had a tendency to make the Green data less crisp.
Macs have always provided separate Syncs. Except, perhaps, for the very first Mac-II displays, genuine Apple Mac displays have accepted only Separate Syncs.

Display resolution gone wrong

Hi there
I wonder if someone can help with an odd problem with my display resolution. This applies when the laptop display is used on its own or hooked up to my Eizo CE210W.
The display resolution is set to 1680x1050 and was working perfectly normally until about 40 minutes ago. Suddenly while I was surfing, the screen flickered and then I couldn't see the whole screen. The top/bottom and left/right borders are "bleeding" off the screen and the whole screen moves when I move the cursor. It's as if it's set itself to a lower resolution even though System Preferences shows it as set to the standard 1680x1050. I've tried resetting the resolution at lower and then the standard resolution. It can be set at lower resolutions but won't return to its 1680x1050 resolution even though System Preferences says it is.
I've rebooted a couple of times, but it's still the same. Any ideas what's wrong and if there's anything I can do?

Get higher resolutions for extended desktop

We have a new iMac. We also have an older Apple Cinema HD display monitor that we're using with the iMac as an extended desktop. On the iMac, we're using 2560 x 1440 resolution; but the highest resolution we can get on the Cinema HD is only 1280 x 800. Does anyone know how we can get higher resolutions on our Cinema HD display monitor?

I've been looking for a way to have the screen resolution change for different Apps too. I can't find anything in Automator, but I hope there is a way.. Like you, I like my editing programs to be higher resolution and my finder, email and the rest to have a lower resolution.
