Getting distorted aspect ratio when Importing my TIFF picture files

Trying to import some Powerpoint slides in order to intercut between the slides and the speaker. When brought to the browser or timeline, these TIFF files, which looked fine on the cd, have taken on a widescreen 1.88:1 look. Under the motion tab in the browser they also show up as being distorted, and scaled down to 75%. I can manually reset these attributes one at a time, but what a huge pain. Are there some settings I can play with to preserve the original attributes of the TIFF pictures?
Thanks,
John Freeman

I'd guess th TIFFs are larger than 720 X 480. If you don't need to move them around in Final Cut, you might take them into Photoshop and do the resizing there. In Photoshop, can can program an Action to make this quicker and easier.
What is the frame size of these TIFFs?

  • Incorrect aspect ratio when importing MPEG-4 Video file to project

My movie which originated from a commercial DVD, is a .m4v.ff.mov file.
The "ff" is the software interface (ffmpegX) that converts third party Unix media.
When I open it as a Quicktime movie it comes up in the correct 1: 2.35 aspect ratio.
and shows an actual pixel dimension of 720 x 304.
When I import that same file to FCP (version 5.1.4) it comes up as 720 x 480 pixels - a completely different aspect ratio. The viewer window shows the pixels to be a SQUARE format but it is grayed out.
I was able to de-select the "show as sq. pixels" in the canvas window but it only expands it to what appears to be a 1: 1.85 aspect ratio and not the 1: 2.35 which it should be.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
i would greatly appreciate someone with the expertise to solve this.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I think I figured it out for myself:
In the Viewer window go to the "Motion' tab, go down to Aspect ratio and move the slider to the left or right to adjust the width to height relationship.
I have no idea why this is solving the issue but it does.

  • Strange Aspect Ratio When Importing a Video

I am getting strange aspect ratio problems when importing a .mov file that has been exported from premiere pro.  The footage in question is from my Canon HG10 HD camcorder.  No matter what format I export it seems okay when played back via quicktime, but when imported into AE then double clicking the file it seems to be forced into a 4:3 aspect ratio.  Even when you drag the file onto the "new comp" icon, the problem still persists.  I have screen grabed everything to try and explain the problem.
    Premiere
    Premiere sequence settings
    Thanks in advance!

Enable the pixel aspect ratio correction in the comp viewer. You are using a non-square PAR because your sequence settings are set to HDV/ XDCAM and without telling AE about it, it can't correct the preview.

  • Clips gets distorted (aspect ratio gets changed) when I move them

I am trying to move some clip froms one iMovie project to another. I have copied a bunch of other clips and have had no problems but for some reason I am having a problem with a certain set of clips. When I copy these clips to the other project they are coming out stretched out, as if iMovie is tweaking the aspect ratio.
Any idea what is going on here? I couldn't find anything in Preferences to address this problem.
    Thanks,
    Chris

When you create a new project you get a window asking you what you want to to call it and where you want to save it.
At the bottom of that window is a small arrow pointing to the words Video Format. Click on that small arrow and you get a drop down menu offering you DV, DV Widescreen, and a few others incl. iSight.
You only get the opportunity to select the video format when you first create, and name, a new project.

  • Wrong aspect ratio when importing photos

I have done different movies (16:9 format), never had any problems. Since yesterday, I am not able anymore to integrate photos in the right aspect ratio. In the preview they appear with the right ratio. When I integrate them and the rendering starts, they first get back to a 4:3 format with black frame on left and right side (during the rendering process) and then get teared to wide (like a doubled 16:9).
Does anybody know why?? I have nowhere read anything about this problem...:-( Thanks!

Yes, this seems to be a problem with Mac OS X 10.5 (or maybe some QT version) and 16:9 (PAL and NTSC) SD projects. 4:3 projects are OK.
But I prefer to use Photo To Movie to compose iMovie slideshows anyway because its quality is and has been better.

  • Problems Maintaining Aspect Ratio When Importing

OK. So i've been at this for a few hours trying to figure out this issue im having.
I have exported a slideshow from iPhoto to iDVDin 16:9 format.
The slideshow is saved in my movies folder from that export as "slideshow.mov".
I am trying to take my "slideshow.mov" and import it to iMovie but after import the slideshow is playing in the Standard 4:3 aspect, in a 16:9 project.
I've read several support discussions and this is what i've tried so far.
    1- Importing "slideshow.mov" into a DV-NTSC-Widescreen project. 29.97 FPS
    2- Importing "slideshow.mov" into a DV-PAL-Widescreen project. 25 FPS
** Both of these has been tried with and without "Auto Pillarboxing" selected.
The reason im so stressed is because when I play "slideshow.mov" in both quicktime and iDVD, it playsback in the desired 16:9 ratio but iMovie still wont accept it.
Any advice or solutions would be awesome.
And if you're wondering, im trying to get it into iMovie to add a mix and matched audio track and transitions to it rather than the basic slideshow features from iPhoto.
    Thanks,
    Tyler
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Try this:
Open the slideshow.mov in QT Player Pro and export it as a DV stream with the 16:9 flag set. Then import the .dv file to a widescreen iMovie project.
Then iMovie should treat it as 16:9.
Hmm... what is the frame rate of the .mov? The .dv should use the same fps but it is fixed at ntsc 29.97 or PAL 25 fps for .dv.

  • How to get correct aspect ratio? Hi-8 transfer

I am Importing through a Datavideo box but cannot get the aspect ratio correct No matter how I set the project I get a 4:3 aspect rather than 16:9.
I don't have the problem in IMovie HD. When I open new project inImovie it asks for standard or widescreen and mports correctly.

I posted screen shots of each step I took.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/yoda8945
I downloaded the file from the camera to an event.
I created a new Project  in 720x480 anamorphic
I went to timeline and the file is no not anamorphic.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/yoda8945
I a now starting to understand how this anamorphic thing works. It can stay at 4:3, but at some point I need 16:9.
How do I batch change in the browser? I don't find anything about an anamorphic flag.

  • Set maximum aspect ratio when exporting

    Hello,
I'm using LR5 and I'm wondering if it's possible (maybe with plugins if necessary) to set a maximum aspect ratio when experting photos. For example I have a picture that I cropped to be a panorama, with an aspect ratio of 26:11. The print shop can print at a maximum aspect ratio of 19:11. So my 26:11 image is too small and I need to add some bars at the top and bottom of my photo to reach an aspect ratio of 19:11 (see also the sketch below). Later, when I get the finished prints, I have to cut the bars at the top and bottom with a pair of scissors for example. Is it possible to let LR automatically add these borders for a given maximum apsect ratio?

Hi Victoria, thank you for your reply. I looked at the Mogrify plugin, but couldn't find the option I need. I see some options for canvas and resizing and adding bars, but these all require to set a certain absolute pixel dimension. I don't want to resize images to a specific pixel size, I just want to correct the aspect ratio by adding bars at the bottom and top of the photo. Maybe I'm missing something in the Mogrify plugin? Could you explain how I can add the borders automatically to reach a maximum aspect ratio of 19:11 using Mogrify? Just to be clear, all photos with an aspect ration between 11:11 and 19:11 don't have to be changed. Only photos with an aspect ratio larger than 19:11 should be changed to 19:11 by adding the bars.

  • Can I maintain original aspect Ratio when making web Quicktime video

    Hello there,
I have to convert at 16:9 Premiere file I originally made for DVD into a web ready format. Can I do this without distorting the image? In other words, I want to reduce the file size and keep the proportion intact.
Also, for future reference, what is the optimum aspect ratio when creating video content for web with Premiere?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    M

Thank you Jim. Sorry for not replying sooner; I've been offline for a couple of days. Your reply is helpful and I'm
happy I won't have to squash my original 16:9 format movie to put it online.

  • How to keep original aspect ratio when cropping in Camera Raw?

How to keep original aspect ratio when cropping in Camera Raw? Cant figure it out! With shift, the aspect ratio is 1:1. But I didnt set it to 1:1 (I checked "normal").

The Shift key works once you’ve set your crop ratio.  DSLRs would typically do 2:3 and others sometimes do 3:4.

  • Get an error message when importing from iPhoto says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space."

I get an error message when importing from iPhoto that says, "There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 44GB of free space." the drive is empty, I just reformatted it to Mac OSX journaled.

I'm guessing this is an extrenal drive, correct? If so make sure the library you're importimng into is really located on the external drive. By default Aperture creates its library in your home pictures folder.

  • Getting very green tint on importing GF 1 RAW files.

    Using AP 3.2.3 on 10.7.4.
Getting very green tint on importing GF 1 RAW files. Also a message saying the files were processed usnig a previous Aperture RAW conversion. When I click on the reprocess button nothing happens for a few seconds then the WB corrects, but not every time. Sometimes I have to click on the WB picker for it to have an effect. This has only just started to happen as I've used the GF1 for 2-3 years with no problem. I see from other posts that the WB is a known issue but I alsohave the previous RAW message as well.
    Any thoughts?

    Two things to try:
Force the generation of new previews by holding down the option key while selecting "Update Preview"
If this only happened after you upgraded to 10.7.4 and worked well before, then register your camera with the lauch services database - see this post by Alan Roseman:This solved my questionRe: Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish, but read the follow up posts (the lsregister command) as well, on how it is supposed to work and how to correct the typos.

  • Keep getting error code 2048 when trying to open wmv files, says realplayer cannot open with the installed version of Quicktime, any suggestions?

Keep getting error code 2048 when trying to open wmv files, says realplayer cannot open with the installed version of Quicktime, any suggestions?

wmv is a Windows Media format.  I don't know why Realplayer is coming into it since that deals primarily with Real format files and maybe a few generic formats.
    You need
    Free Flip4mac QuickTime player components - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences.  Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.
or play the files with VLC
VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - general media player that plays just about anything.
While you're at it you might install:
Perian codecs for Quicktime - http://www.perian.org - plugins to add functionality to Quicktime for playing additional audio and video formats
Quicktime audio problems, Perian, VLC - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9013669 - read note about uninstalling prior DIVX support before installing Perian.
Perian doen't do WMV but it's handy to get many things to play in Quicktime.
Note, if these are protected WMV, nothing on a Mac will play those (unless you also have Windows installed).
