Getting my music

Hello,
I recently had to reformat my hd. Because of that, I had to reinstall everything including Itunes. How do I get Itunes to import or consolidate (or whatever you call it) all my music I backed up on another hd. I tried going to file/library/organize library to consolidate but Itunes wouldn't do anything--literally. No windows opened up to tell me Itunes was searching for my music. Can someone help?
Thanks In Advance,
kk
P.S. I would like my email to be notified when someone answers this question but I can't find any box to check for that or any info at all about that.

How do I get Itunes to import or consolidate (or whatever you call it) all my music I backed up on another hd.
Did you just back up the music files (e.g. the mp3's and m4a's) or did you back up the iTunes library, too. If you backed up your library and music, copy that stuff (the library and the music files) back, and then open up iTunes. If iTunes isn't opening up the library that you copied to your local hard disk, you can hold down shift key while opening iTunes, and it will prompt you for the library file, at which point you can select the one you just copied back.
If you just backed up the music and not the library, then you just need to import the music files into to your existing iTunes library (which presumably has nothing in it right now), copying the files to you local hard disk in the process. I'd suggest going to iTunes' Preferences, select "Advanced", make sure to check "Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to Library". Then, back in iTunes, select "Add Folder to Library", select the folder with your music backup, and it will copy it to your new iTunes installation's default iTunes Media folder.
I tried going to file/library/organize library to consolidate but Itunes wouldn't do anything--literally.
That consolidate feature is for organizing music that is already added to your iTunes library, but might not be in the right folder on the hard disk. But if you don't have any music in your iTunes Library, that command won't do anything

Have new PC now. Saved all folders from old PC HDD. Will install iTunes 7.6 on new PC but how should I get my music back from the old PC's HDD? My iPod contains music purchased from iTunes, plus music from alot of CD's I own. WOuld like to recover music from my old HDD rather than synching from iPod (which I don't know how to do anyway!)

Yes, just delete the duplicates but make sure to keep at least one copy!
Actually it might be easiest to start over - totally clear your library, and make sure this copy setting is turned off
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61658
then clear out your new PC's music folder.
Then add everything back from your old hard drive.
You only have to authorize one song for the whole PC to get authorized:

after downloading ios5.1.1 how do you get your music back on your ipod

Sync it from your iTunes library
    Redownload iTunes purchases by
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If it was not in your iTunes library and you updated via iTunes you will have to get the music again sinve synced media like apps and music are not include din the iPod backup that iTunes makes.

  • I have a Mac mini OSX 10.4.11 Intel Core Duo, 512mb, 1.83 GHz with iTunes 9.0.3. What steps do I need to take to get my music library to my iPad. I dont think I meet the requirements to just upgrad to snow leopard and/or lion. I want the music I paid for

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor.  I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system.  I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad.  The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell.  Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me.  What can I do to get the music transferred.  I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer.  Thank you in advance if you can help me.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, then redownload it:

  • New laptop..how do i get ipod music to music on itunes

hi,i just got a new laptop and i need to know if there is a way to get the music on your ipod that you havent bought from itunes but have got from a 3rd party onto your computer.

Apple doesn't have that functionality. You will need to use a third party ipod to pc copy utility like [copytrans|http://www.copytrans.net/iphone-ipod-touch-backup.php]. I'm sure there are many, I'm just familiar with that one.
    Hope that helps!

  • I need to get the music off my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN onto either ITunes or in a music foldes on my new computer. Not all the music was purchased from Apple Itunes HOW DO I DO THIS WITHOUT LOOSING ALL MY MUSIC??

I have not had a computer for several years and I just got a new one. My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. Thank goodness I had it all on my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN. Now my problem is that I don't know how to get the music off my Ipod Nano onto my new computer!!! I was able to get the songs that I purchased thru ITunes by just authorizing my new computer. But I have alot more music that is on my Ipod nano that I can't put into my ITunes library. In fact, I can't even get my music into a file folder on my computer!! I really need help. I don't have any copies of the music anywhere else and some of it is hard to get. How do I get my music either into ITunes or into a file folder on my new computer or even if I could get my computer to recognize my Ipod and sync all the music into windows media or something like that. Every time I connect my IPod all that happens is that it tells me if I sync the IPod that it will replace all the music from my ITunes library on to my IPod. And I am guessing that means all my music on the IPod will be erased. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Thanks from the bottom of my songsters heart

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • I have just updated my Ipod to the latest ios.(deleting everything) and using different sources to get my music back it seems that every time i select multiple/individual songs on itunes i can change artwork but will not show up on my ipod?

I have a windows 8 computer and have recently updated my ipod to the latest ios and it has wiped my Ipod clean except for my photos. whilst trying to get my music back using different sources like CD's and stuff i cant seem to get any album art to load on my Ipod? I can go on itunes and highlight single/multiple items and change the artwork and my computer will confirm it but when I look on my Ipod it doesnt display any art work or allow me to change the artwork that is already there? i need help please!

Album artwork can be added/changed on songs via the iTunes Get Info menu item from the File menu. Note that music that you loaded from CDs will not have any artwork. If you want to aquire artwork you can try the File menu item Library > Get Artwork or you can download artwork from the internet, etc. Note that just changing artwork on your computer won't affect the iPod until you sync.
If the artwork is correct on your computer iTunes then delete all the music on your iPod by syncing with iTunes with no music selected. Then reload the music onto your iPod by again syncing with iTunes with all the music you want selected.

  • HT1473 Had to "repair" Itunes today after error messages would not let me open. I can no longer sync my phone to computer without deleting all of the contect on my phone. I don't want to do that! I am trying to get the music from my Iphone to my Itunes li

    Little background:
Went to open Itunes, error message told me I was missing files and I was unable to open. I deleted Itunes and re-downloaded and received same message. I then "repaired" Itunes from my "unistall/change" program menu. The error message then changed to being "unable to read my library of music." So I fixed that by following some other forum directions (Went to My Computer/Music/Itunes then dragged the most recent Itunes Library selection to my desktop, then opened the folder under music titled "Previous Itunes library" and moved that file into that folder. Thankfully that worked... sort of... I have some music in my library. None of the music from my super old Limewire library, or any recent music from my phone. All of which was in my library last night. Not to mention the HOURS of cd's I burned to Itunes over the entire weekend. Hundreds (at least) of songs are missing.
So I attempted to sync my phone and was told it would delete all of the files in my phone to replace with files from my computer. Which is NOT what I want to happen. Trying to get music FROM my phone to my computer.
Can someone please help me simply sync my phone to my computer? And then somehow get the music from my Limewire library to my Itunes library? I know I may not get the burned music back... But that sure would be amazing.
I am at a loss. Apple won't help unless I pay them... So hopefully this looks familiar to someone!
    Thanks,
    Katie

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • I can't figure out how to get my music to shuffle on my iPhone 5s. If I try to skip a song, it skips about 100 songs. It only ends up playing 4 or 5 songs then goes back to the song menu. Help please!

I can't figure out how to get the music on my iPhone5s to shuffle. If I use the arrows to skip a song, it shuffles through a handful of the same songs then goes back to the song menu. Help please!

Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.
