Getting rid of stupid animation

Before I expire from old age I would love to know how to turn off that ridiculous animation whenever I browse for a file. You know that stupid, useless, horrible animation where the file list or whatever is conveyed to you via some Star Wars movie of a list morphing from a flat line to an actual file list as if it was coming out at you from inside your Mac. Like those stupid headlights on some muscle cars that open their eyes rather than just turn on.
LIke how in the world to you get rid of them? Or, how in the world do you get rid of programmers who think that's cool? Is there a way of throwing a stick of dynamite into your computer so it blows up in some programmer's face? This is like waiting for some old lady in a mini-van at a stop light to remember where her gas pedal is and what it's for.

Hi Stu,
I feel the same way you do. I want to use my computer to get things done, not spend an extra 20 hours over the course of a year watching folder windows flow open and close.
You can turn off pretty much all of OS X's extraneous animations with OnyX. Once you have the application, launch it and click on the Parameters button. Under that heading, click the Finder tab. Turn off all of the check boxes under the top choice of "Graphic Effects:". That should do it.

Don't use it.  I don't use it myself except that I have my iPad and iPod configured so that I hear a chime whenever something goes into that mailbox.  By the way, the message also appears in the Inbox.

  • ICal animations - how to get rid of them

Is there a way to get rid of the animations in iCal while moving from one month to the next? There are very slow and completely unnecessary.
I know that one can press the 'alt' key while using pressing the arrow buttons, but it would be nice to get rid of the animiatons.
Next step after would be to get rid of the ridiculous leather skin...

  • How do I get rid of "Open All In Tabs" from the Bookmarks dropdown menu? [STUPIDITY] Also, my bookmarks run off the bottom of the screen and I can't see them all.

The bottom of my bookmarks in one subcategory extends beyond the screen on my TV and I can't see them all. I can't see where any arrow to extend the bookmarks to the bottom of the list is so I've been clicking below the last visible bookmark in that list and I hit that STUPID "Open All In Tabs" crap (then everything locks up). WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD WANT TO OPEN ALL OF THEIR BOOKMARKS AT ONCE???? Seems really, really stupid to me. And why won't the bookmarks drop down list allow me to see all of the bookmarks I've saved on that topic? It does not automatically scroll down as large lists on other drop down menus routinely do.

I agree. It is a brainless moronic subcategory!!! I would love to get rid of it!

  • Please help me get rid of that stupid Navigator and that annoying voice and blue line once and for all!!!!

    Hello,
I followed directions left by others and in Windows 8 there is no Explore All Settings but found Use computer without a display.  The narrator box was unchecked to begin with and I cannot get rid of the sound and that stupid blue line all over my screen.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Based on your description, I understand that you want to disable Narrator in the Windows 8.
Did you mean that had un-checked
Turn on Narrator in Use the computer without a display panel (the path: Control Panel-> Ease of Access-> Ease of Access Center->
Use the computer without a display)? Please also click Make the computer easier to see in
Ease of Access Center, there also has a Turn on Narrator option. Please check if also un-check it.
Please also refer to following article and check if can help you.

Narrator on Windows 8/8.1 Computer | Steps and Pictures

In addition, I also suggest that you should post the question in

If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there any way to get rid of this stupid feature in iTunes for Windows? You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes.

s there any way to get rid of this stupid feature in iTunes for Windows?
You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes. You may get the following message:
iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
You can click Yes to continue downloading additional episodes. Or you can just listen to any part of any episode and a new episode will download at the next update.

I believe that feature was added in order to reduce wasted costs to the Podcaster.
Podcasts incur costs - that have to be paid for, by someone. That cost will be the cost of hosting the Podcast on a server somewhere and more crucially (with regard to your point), the cost of the Podcast being downloaded to your computer. Every download costs the Podcaster money (typically, charged by bytes downloaded).
If that Podcaster pays for the whole thing personally, obviously they want to keep down any unnecessary cost to themselves. If the Podcaster is earning money for his or her Podcast (typically from advertising within the programme) then obviously, the advertiser only wants to pay for advertisements heard by listeners. So a download, not heard by the downloader, is waste of the Podcaster's money or no payment from the advertiser.
My own experience is that I only have to resume downloading once per programme. I'm usually several episodes behind on two different Podcasts that I follow, but I do not recall having to repeat the resume Podcast after that first time.

  • How do I get rid of the unnecessary animations everywhere?

I've just uopgraded and have found a few irritating animations i want to get rid of.
In the past if I clicked a button there would a fraction of a delay and your command would happen, now you have to wait a good 2-3 seconds while the computer gears up to perform a totally unecessary page turn effect of a cute bounce and scale move!
Any way to turn these off, maybe with Terminal.
    The ones in particular are:
    iCal page curling
    and
    reply to mail in Mail
No doubt there are other tasetless examples I'm yet to discover!

I am guessing that you installed an extension, related to "new tab", which added the first search bar. Firefox 31 in includes a search bar for the "new tab" page; so now you have two.
Take a look at that extension (Options or Preferences) to see how to disable ones of those 2 search bars. Or see if an update has been released for that extension, specifically for Firefox 31, with an option to disable the search bar.

ASSERT: Giving up waiting for the tab closing animation to finish (bug 608589)
    Stack Trace:
    0:([object XULElement],[object XULElement],0)
Happening since I went to the 4.0b9 beta. Thanks for any help in getting rid of it.

They're still working on fixing that Bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=608589 - a fix for another Bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613888 - landed earlier this week which might have fixed it. Unless you are willing to install a nightly Trunk which has the latest fixes, you'll have to wait for 4.0b10 for the fix.

  • I can't stream video at my favirute sites anymore, I uninstalled some programs trying to get rid of the stupid bing toolbar

I'm still on XP on this older PC, this all started because of this stupid bing toolbar that has infecting many computers, and I started unistalling a few programs that looked like they didn't belong, I ended up getting rid of the bing but now I have a much bigger problem, I still have my adobe flash player of course, all the sudden when I go to a site like wiziwig.tv to stream baseball games it just doesn't work. I tried system restore to a previous date but that wiped out all my bookmarks and everything. I just think there is some file or program I need as I've been streaming shows at sights like watchseries.ch until today. If that bing toolbar hadn't came out of nowhere I'd be watching right now!

  • How do I get rid of the stupid menu bar on my 2nd display?

I do not want my menu bar to display on my 2nd monitor. The fact that apple decided that it would be okay to reduce my usable space on my 2nd screen infuriates me. How do I revert this back to how it was previously? I don't want the menu bar (or the dock) on the 2nd screen, at all.
I didn't see any settings to get rid of it, so I assume there is a defaults write to get rid of it..
When I "drag the menu bar" to get rid of it, via the settings, nothing happens. It is still there, except now it is greyed (and still useless). And it still takes up the space and makes the 2nd screen less useful.
I want it to behave like it did previously: the 2nd monitor has no menu bar that blocks usage, and is used as a place where I drag extra windows.
Any help? This is /really/ annoying and I honestly regret upgrading.
    Thanks
    - Joey

If you do not want to utilize the new full screen funciton independently (i.e.  a full screen app on monitor one & a separate full screen app on monitor 2) go to System Prefs ->Mission Control -> Uncheck the box 'Displays have separate Spaces'.  This will remove the dock & menu bar from your 2nd monitor.  Unfortunately, until there is an update, you have to choose between the two options.

  • I want the Google and Yahoo fight on my browser to go away. How do I get rid of these stupid notifications asking me to make one or the other my defaults?

I use Google. My browser is set with Google.ca as my homepage and Google is my default search engine.
For a while I was getting messages asking me if I wanted to know how to make Yahoo my defaults...I managed to get rid of that crap...
But now I get bars popping up at the top of my screen asking me if I want to switch to Google...either my homepage or my default search engine...toss-up which one will come up when I open my browser.
Even though everything is set for Google I still get these obnoxious pushed "suggestions".
How do I get rid of these?
Right now it's looking like using IE is the only way...

You will get them on IE. I suggest you also contact Google support, as this is also a problem on their end. I too have everything set to Google on both Firefox, Opera, IE, and Chrome and the only one not getting the annoying banners is surprising Google Chrome.

  • Safari has added this stupid feature to bookmarks called cover flow and it covers up my list of bookmarks so I cannot edit/rearrange them.  How do I get rid of the black, useless space in bookmarks, bring back bookmarks manager?

How do I get rid of this annoying feature in Safari known as cover flow which appears as a balck void in bookmarks?  the bookmarks manager is nowhere to be found and now I'm going to Google instead of Safari.

Move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the black area.
Mouse pointer should turn into a hand pointer.
    Double click.
The Cover Flow  should shrink into small black strip at the top.
To revert back, move the mouse pointer to the black strip at the top.
When the pointer turns into a hand pointer, double click.

Do the eject, then drag the remaining file to the trash and empty it.
