"Getting Started - Create PDF"

Acrobat X Pro:
This version of Acrobat now opens with a useful looking interface with broad options:  'open a recent file' and 'getting started', the latter with a few options...
Most often when I open acrobat this way I want to produce a new file:  often from a scanner or whatever.  However, the "Getting Started - Create PDF" option goes to a "open file" screen:  it doesn't appear to have anything to do with 'starting a new file'.
Am I missing something here, or is this an error with the program?
Thanks.
PS this is just a curiosity point:  generally I just ignore the screen and go directly to the toolbar to do what I need to...
Richard

Doesn't seem to be a 'typical' welcome screen:  there is no typical option, as in most programs, to 'skip this screen', and on a quick review of the (very complicated) preferences options I don't see that type of option...
But in any case that wasn't the point:  the point was that the 'new file' option doesn't appear to actually be a 'new file' option!!!

  • Acrobat X - getting started - create pdf

When I open Acrobat X Pro, there is a window that says "Open a Recent File" on the left and "Getting Started" on the right.  The first choice under "Getting Started" is "Create PDF."  When I click on "Create PDF" I get an "Open File" dialogue box.  I don't want to open a file.  I want to create a PDF.  In my particular situation, at the moment, I want to create a PDF from the scanner.  This is an option from the pull-down menus and the buttons, is there a way to make it an option from the "Getting Started" window?

Thanks.  After a while, I started using the big "create" button.  It works to create a new scan to .pdf.  But, can't find a dependable way to insert from scanner.

You cannot customize the entries on the Welcome Screen, but very few people use the right side of the Welcome Screen for routine tasks, it's there as a reminder of the type of things Acrobat can do. Creating PDFs from your scanner is usually activated via the large "Create..." button on the main toolbar, or the File menu.

    Hello,
You can't create pdf using Adobe Reader. You need Adobe Acrobat to create pdfs, for more on Acrobat, please refer - http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html
Also you can subscribe for our CreatePDF service here - https://www.acrobat.com/en_gb/products/pdf-pack.html

  • Can I hire someone to help me get started creating a javascript to manage my PDF files?

I have  written quite a few programs in VBA and C+.  Although I have not programmed at all in Java, it seems very close to C.  I simply do not know what programming/debug  tool to use and how to get started.

OK, Thank you very much for taking the time to look more closely at what I need to do.  Here is a pretty detailed description of what I need and again thank you for your consideration:
Job Packages or “Work specifications” are received from our authority in 15-50 page PDF files. The work specifications typically have 4 to 10 different jobs in each PDF file.  Each job is several pages or more and is uniquely identified by a work number which is located on the top right corner of each page in the job. All the pages that belong to a specific job can be identified by the associated work number.
    Scope of what is needed:
    1. Each individual job in the Job package must be extracted (Based on its work number) and saved in a unique folder (which will already exist) with a unique name that matches the folder name.
    2. Each job extracted must be printed on a specific printer or emailed to an out of office recipient. Whether the extracted file is printed or emailed is based on the parent file the extracted file came from. In other words, I intend to run this app on several PDF files. As an example, these 4 files to start:
Job Package Report – Hampton-Wmsbg – Email all files extracted to……
Job Package Report - Norfolk-VA Bch, Daily – Print all files extracted to printer IP:....
Job Package Report - Chesapeake-Chuckatuck Daily – Print all files extracted
Job Package Report - North Carolina  – Email all files extracted to printer IP:...
    3. On each page, where the work number appears, ( Unless the work number is marked…as existing) the work number needs to be replaced by a unique number, using a Arial black number 10 font. This number will be available in the same lookup table where all work numbers are found. An example lookup table would be:
    Work # to find
    Work # to replace
    7639509
    CG143668_2807639509
    7639191
    CG143669_2507639191
    7639189
    CG143670_2207639189
    7638341
    CG143671_2107638341
    7635491
    CG143672_2807635491
    7632212
    JOB ALREADY EXISTS
If the work number is marked as existing, as in job 7632212 in the table above, do not search and replace work numbers, simply go to step 4.
    4. In the Header or centered in the top of each page, using Arial Black number 16 font, the same unique “Work # to replace” number needs to be printed. If that work number is marked already exists; in the Header using the same font Print “JOB ALREADY EXISTS.”
5 If a work number is not found in the work specification, the work number not found must be identified and listed in a table.
6 Likewise, any pages that have not been identified in the work specification, after the work number list has been gone through once, and all associated pages extracted, must be extracted and given a name “ pages not found” and stored in a directory called “jobs not found”.
    Approach
Of course many approaches to accomplishing this are available and up to the programmer the best to perform. Additionally, it is probable many steps can be combined.  For example, when searching for the work number to extract pages, the new work number can be replaced at the same time.
The end goal is to have a VBA program, embedded in an Excel file, call a Java script to open the  Job Package file.  The PDF file name does not change and the file will always be located in a specific directory.

  • Is this the right place for me to get started with pdf development?

Hi, What I am going to do is to write some AS3 classes which will load a pdf file and can extract its data like taking BitmapData shots from all the pages and that stuff...
so, will you be able to let me know if I'd be able to ask tech questions in this forum along the way? and also, will you be able to tell me where to start to get some helpful information about pdf files so that I can access and read them in binary level?
    any comment is appriciated,
    Hadi

thanks for the reply, I just downloaded that reference book and will start reading it in a few minutes... I wonder if I'd also need to purchase the pdf library thing later?  http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pdf/library/
or accesing the pdf in AS3 in binary level will solve my problem of taking bitmapData screenshots from pages?
    Regards,

  • How do I get started creating an app that retrieves photos from Flickr and creates a mosaic?

I'm working to develop a wallpaper application for desktops, tablets & smartphones. What I need to do is the following:
    1) Get a little user input (this will be a web or app front end).
    2) Retrieve N (50-200) random photos from a particular Flickr set (handled on a Mac server interfacing with Flickr).
    3) The hard part... assemble the photos into a mosaic that matches the dimensions of the client application. Again, this is done on a Mac server, using either available Mac software & AppleScript or standard Unix tools available or installable on a Mac server.
    4) Send the output photo back to the web or app client.
Steps 1 & 4 are where the user will interface, and I figure I'll get to that part later. What I'd like to do is start figuring out what I need to complete tasks 2 & 3. I'll probably poke around Flickr for task 2 help. Task 3 is purely handled on the Mac server. I have XCode installed and experience with HTML and writing very simple software in Perl, Fortran & a little AppleScript, but zero experience in XCode.
    Thanks for any advice.

To stop the Cannon software from doing the import read the Cannon software manual
To have iPhoto do it go to the iPhoto preferences and set the preference for action when a camera is connected to launch iPhoto

  • Have problem on creating pdf from web page

When acrobat finished downloading of that web page to start creating pdf file,  acrobat.exe take more and more memory, eventually the whole physical memory  and OS prompt memory inefficient warning.
the web page is only 900+K,
url is http://www.w3.org/TR/2004/REC-xmlschema-1-20041028/        ( I use the only one layer configuration)
but url: http://www.w3.org/TR/2004/REC-xmlschema-0-20041028/ is turn out to be fine, which is 300+K
it seems when the web pages is more than some hundreds of KB, then the acrobat went insane and took all the memory out there.
    Please fix the bug asap!
PS:  I use acrobat pro 9.4.1

Adobe only provides security fixes for all versions. With Acrobat X out, you will see any bug fixes. I don't have the problem you are seeing on 9.4.1 on the Mac nor on Acrobat X under Windows. I no longer have Acrobat 9.4.1 on my Windows machine, so I cannot check. Perhaps someone else can. Methinks you are seeing something else going one. Perhaps something is interfering with the pdf creation. What OS do you have? Maybe it has something to do with virus/spam software on your computer. Can you turn this off for testing purposes?

  • Getting general error when saving site using "create PDF from"

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0 for Mac, trying to save websites. This started working fine, but I had to shut down in the middle of a site being saved. Now when I try to save a site  using Web Capture/create PDF from I get a "general error, nothing was saved". What do I need to do, remove, replace, reinstall or whatever to get this feature working again?
Also can anyone tell me how to set the feature that saves web pages with the headers and footers showing date, time, URL, page title, etc. I often use the print feature (save to PDF) and up until a day or so ago it always saved with those headers and footers. Now they're missing, which is what prompted me to try saving entire sites, above. I remember setting these a long time ago and being able to choose what went on the left, right, header and footer, but I cannot find those settings now.
    Thanks,
    Michele

Well, after downloading Applejack, I am completely confused. I'm not sure I understand what will happen if I do any of these steps: see 3a.. "clean out all cache files including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures". What kinds of things will I lose? Can I choose only the Acrobat cache files?  I don't want to have to spend hours or days resetting things as I'm in the middle of a project with a close deadline. I also don't really understand fully what will happen with all the other things they discuss.  The instructions say (I just copied and pasted these):
    3.  Auto mode: You can let the script run through its tasks automatically by typing 'applejack auto'. If you want the machine to automatically restart at the end of its tasks, use 'applejack auto restart'. You can also tell the computer to shut down automatically at the end by using the command line 'applejack auto shutdown'.
3a. Deep Auto mode: If you want to let AppleJack clean out all cache files, including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures, use 'applejack AUTO' instead. Use this if you still have problems booting after running AppleJack already.
    4.  Interactive mode: To run through just one task, or to run the script manually, type 'applejack' and then choose tasks from the menu. Running the script in interactive mode has the benefit of giving you options for working with user level cache and preference files, not just the default system level caches and preferences. To select an option, type the highlighted number or letter associated with the action, and then hit return. Whenever you enter a choice in AppleJack, you will need to hit return for that choice to take effect.
    4.  Corrupted preference files are moved into a directory that will mirror the original preference directory, with (Corrupt) added to the directory name. For example, corrupt preferences files found in ~/Library/Preferences will be moved to ~/Library/Preferences (Corrupt). After running AppleJack, you'll probably want to take a look at them (and most likely throw out those folders). As of version 1.4.2, AppleJack now creates a copy of the directory tree inside the (Corrupt) folder so that if any files were deeply nested inside the original preference folder, they will be placed in an identical directory hierarchy in the new (Corrupt) folder. This way, if for any reason you would want to move a preference file back, you know where it should go.
    6.  AppleJack has a primitive logging mechanism. It writes a journal of most of its activity to /var/log/AppleJack.log. AppleJack will automatically reset the log the next time you run it, if the file should ever reach a size somewhat over 500k.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Create PDF from Word doesn't start

I have Word 2007 and Acrobat 9 Pro installed on Windows 7. I can print a Word file to PDF, but using Create PDF on the Acrobat toolbar does almost nothing. A dialog opens and asks what to name the file, but when I click Save nothing happens. The PDF Maker doesn't even start.
When I go into Acrobat and try to Create PDF from File and select a Word file, I see a message about "starting" but then I get "An unexpected error occurred. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
So I essentially have no PDF and no useful error messages to help me find the source of the problem. I've tried repairing the Acrobat installation, and even uninstalling and re-installing, all to no avail. My IT department has tortured me for a few hours trying all the basic stuff, but nothing has helped. I found this problem description in the Adobe Knowledgebase and I followed the steps there, but still nothing. (Yes, I have my name and initials set in Word's personalization settings. That was a dumb bug, wasn't it?)
Anyone had any ideas? I can create basic PDF by printing, but that doesn't give me a hyperlinked table of contents and other good stuff that I need.
    Thanks for any help!
    Steve

    Hi Bill,
Can you tell me a little more about PDF Maker not working in Word? It worked fine for me on my Windows XP machine with Word 2003 and Acrobat 8 (or maybe 9). It sounds like you've had a different experience. I currently have version 9.3.1, but the updater is running right now to update that. Is there another way to install the updates besides with the built-in updater? I don't seem to have control over the order of the updates when I use it.
I will try turning off features to see what happens. It doesn't look like PDF Maker gets started, though, so I don't know if it's getting far enough to even load the list of what features are on/off.

  • Getting Started PDF with V3 images

    Hi Guys
We supply all our clients with a BC pdf document made a few years ago called "Getting Started Guide". I note that there is no new guide and a lot of the content on the Knowledgebase still references V2 menus. I really want to give clients a tailored PDF rather than get them looking at the KB and seeing a lot information that is not necessary. Has anyone made a V3 guide they want to share?
    Kenton

+1 - This is a big miss for me. Having to explain that our GSG is being updated as we onboard new clients puts a ***** in our armor that I'd rather not have. I'm not against creating my own, but a sanctioned copy would be nice. Any ETA, ABC friends?

The instructions seem so simple. I can't imagine what I am doing wrong. Have project I need to submit today. Please help.

Unfortunately, what you describe isn't a common problem. It is pretty surprising, but hopefully it's a simple as clicking or pressing the wrong thing. So, to find this out we need to know, step by step, at the most basic level, what you click or type EXACTLY and what you see. That should let us get to the cause.
