Glossary

I am using RH8. I am having problems with the glossary in the
.chm file. On the Glossary tab in the .chm file, the first entry in
the list of terms is preceded by ME=, that is, ME=<glossary
word>. The definition is correct. I am sure that I have a
corrupt file (caused by other efforts to create a glossary manually
as an XML (text) file) that is causing the problem, but I don't
know where to look. I have deleted the .glo file and recreated the
glossary. I deleted the *.cpd and *.xpj files, and the I opened the
*.hhp file. All with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

dsarig,
Thanks for your time in replying.
My coworker created a new project and a glossary. He did not
have the problem. I copied his .glo file, renamed it, and placed in
my project with the problem. The problem presented in my project
using the .glo file from the clean project.
I also created a new project (one topic, one glossary entry)
and had the same problem.
My CHM file is not a merged project.
Thoughts?
With all that said, the problem seems to be resolved;
although, I don't know what caused it, and I suspect there may have
been another fix.
I used the Repair option in the install package. I have no
idea what was repaired, but the problem is gone (for now at least).
The problem was corrected in a new test project as well as old test
projects (test projects = projects that I created while working on
the problem).
Thanks again for your help.

  • Quickly populating the Glossary

I like the idea in the info below, posted 08 Nov 2006 by La
Menting, but does not work. I have 4 entries in my glossary--need
to add about 100 more. However, when I open the project's .glo
file, it is empty. I saved my project closed RH 7, and the file is
    still empty. Any ideas?
II recently converted a WinHelp project to HTML. The only
problem I've encountered is that the Glossary entries are all in
bold and a larger font than the normal HTML Glossary output. It's
extremely ugly and gives me a headache after looking at only two or
three entries. Because I subscribe to the “be kind to the
customer” philosophy, I'd like to fix this. Does anyone have
the solution? Any help will be much appreciated...by me, at least.

    * open your .glo file in notepad.
    * copy and paste your glossary on another notepad - delete
the text entry on your current .glo file.
    * paste the entry on the other notepad back to the .glo file
    which is currenty in notepad.
of course don't forget to backup your original .glo file
    before doing this.
    Example of .glo entry
    NAME=Data
    Definition of Data.
    NAME=Element
    Definition of Element.
NAME should be in uppercase followed by an = sign then your
glossary entry. Ensure the definition appears on the very next
    paragraph.

    Hi yenelli
The only thing that comes to mind here is that maybe you
aren't looking in the right location. Assuming you have four
entries in your Glossary, there should be data in the file. This
would suggest that you aren't looking at the right file.
It may be helpful to employ one of my all time favorite
RoboHelp tricks here. To quickly open Windows Explorer in the
Project location. Just right-click any topic in your project and
choose Properties (It may also say Topic Properties). Then click
the File tab. See that button in the lower right of the dialog? The
one labeled Open Folder? Click that puppy and Windows Explorer
should pop open in your project location. Sweet, huh?
Now try looking at the .GLO file you find there and see if
you are able to see your entries.
Let us know how you make out... Rick Cheers

  • Expanding Text Glossary Terms into Popup windows

I am using RH6 and I have a help project that uses expanding
text glossary terms throughout all the topics. When the topic is
printed out, the glossary terms are auto expanded and it disrupts
    the flow of the text.
    My questions are:
Is there a way to quickly change expanding text glossary
terms to just popup hyperlink windows?
If not, how can I find all the expanding text glossary terms
using the Multi Find and Replace?
Can they be searched for in a Report?

There's another way. Enclose your glossary definitions in
brackets [a means of enclosing text] so that the definition does
    not interrupt the flow.

  • The Glossary creates a page per term... how to shorten?

As I have been writing my book I have been adding terms to the Glossary but I have now tried printing the document for review and found that iBooks Author created a separate page for every term - to me this is not a workable result. Does anyone know how to abbreviate the Glossary when printing or exporting to PDF (same thing happens in PDF)?

    Hi Tuceef,
    Thanks for the response.
I have created another hidden item P8_URL1 IN page 8 and
I have created an on submit process in page processing section.
    the pl/sql code is
    Begin
    htp.p('<script type = "text/javascript">');
    function setLocation(href)
// set the location path specified in the textbox.
               htp.p('location.href = document.getElementById(href).value;');
              htp.p('P8_URL1:= location.href');
    htp.p('</script>');
end;But the code fetching the plain URL only,it's navigating to the empty form page when i click on the URL.
Please correct the code if am wrong anywhere!
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ramya.

  • Is there a way to create a glossary in Pages?

    Hi!
I'm currently writing a paper, with technical terms, which I'd like to put inside a nice and neat glossary. But I can't find a way to do so. Anyone got any idea? Thanks! BTW, I'm using the brand new version of Pages, on Mac OS.

What makes you think that Apple would do that?
Here is a list of alternative software, but you have to do your own homework as only you know what balance of features suits you:

  • Is there a way to copy and paste a glossary, for use in a text that would be separately published by unit?

I just submitted my first textbook, and it only covers the first quarter of my course.  I'm planning on submitting the others as I finish them.  One problem that I think I will encounter, is that if I create each quarter as a separate iBooks publication, I won't have the continuity of the glossary throughout each publication. Another option is to simply add to the first quarter publication, using the same iBooks Author file, and publish the text as the 1st and 2nd quarters, then the 1st through 3rd quarters, then the 1st through 4th quarters, removing the earlier versions as I publish a newer version.  (Why not just finish it, and publish it once?  Because I'm currently teaching the course, and I want to make the material available as soon as possible--also, it's a course on computer programming, which is a subject that rapidly changes.)  I've seen other iBook publications by the unit, and that has inspired me to consider publishing my text in four smaller installments, one for each quarter of a year-long, 2 semester course.  But that brings me back to the problem of having one continuous glossary that would function in all four publications.
Any and all ideas are welcome!  Thanks!

You're right, but I'm a little under the gun with my employer to get something out there, asap, and I unfortunately have a full time job that doesn't allow me to commit a block of time to finish the text in one shot.

  • No glossary or browse sequence in 1 chm

On my own PC, I have four classic HTML chm Help files (User
Guides for biometric and encryption software end users). Each Help
file has only one .glo glossary file in the project, which I can
edit and view. Each project has the HHactive.dll in the same folder
as the chm file. When compiled however, I see glossary panes in
only three of the Help files.
Researching this, the RoboHelp help says something about
browse sequence. Of course, it does not say what this is or provide
a link to it! I did however create them using the Browse Sequence
Editor on the Tools menu. Sure enough, neither the Browse Sequence
or the glossary appear in that particular Help file.

    Hi there
If you look at the Project Manager side (earlier than version
    7) or click View > Pods > Project setup, you should see a
pseudo folder named "Windows". Expand that and double-click the
    window assigned to this project.

  • Issue with creating a new line in Glossary widget

I'm using Captivate 6 and have an issue with trying to display text on a new line in the description field of the Glossary widget. In playback, a carriage return displays as \n
I read in another discussion (from early last year), that this issue had been resolved and that the fix would be shared soon on the captivate blog for non-subscription users. Does anyone know if the fix has been shared yet - I can't find it anywhere?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Tenneil

    Hi Tenneil,
    Greetings from Adobe.
Please click on the below link and download the updated Glosarry Interaction.
    https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/0a17bb28-049e-4ac7-b8f7-dbdacef5e91c
Extract the zip file to your desktop.
Copy "08_Glossary.wdgt" from the extracted zip file.
    Go to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 (32 Bit)\Gallery\Interactions (For 32 bit Captivate) or C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 (64 Bit)\Gallery\Interactions (For 64 bit Captivate).
Replace the glossary widget in the interaction folder. Restart Captivate 6. (Make sure that you take the backup of the original Glosarry Widget)
Apply the widget again and check for the issue.
Let me know if it works for you.

  • Mystery of mysteries. Can't get rid of "Glossary" text on Favorites tab.

I consider myself relatively well-versed in chm file compiling and chm related issues, but this one has me stumped...
    System Specs;
RH 9 now (initial English help in background below was compiled using RH 7)
    Windows 7 64-bit
First, the background -- We use RoboHelp to compile our English CHM. We then decompile the files from the CHM and ship those off for localization. When they come back from translation, we use usually use FAR HTML to recompile the help. Sometimes we use RH (if FAR HTML is being tempermental). And in rare cases, like today, we use both. So today I was working on compiling a Traditional Chinese help we got back from translation recently. I tried using FAR HTML as usual for the initial post-translation compile. I ran into various and sundry compiler errors that made no sense whatsoever, so I decided to try compiling it in RH instead. The compilation made it through, but the Contents and Index tabs weren't displaying the proper Chinese characters. So I took this Traditional Chinese chm that was compiled by RH, decompiled it, and tinkered with .hhc and .hhk file encoding and charsets and used FAR HTML again to compile. And this time compiling worked without a hitch. We got proper characters. Yay! So far so good. Well, sort of. That's just the background.
Now, the problem -- So now, compiling back in FAR HTML from the above decompiled RH 9 files, I'm getting a psuedo Glossary tab I don't want since in our localized versions of the help. (We simply just call an htm containing the glossary info, and tie the htm to the toolbar.) I say "pseudo" because here's what the navigation pane on the compiled help looks lilke:
Notice that the Favorites tab is actually somehow getting named as "Glossary".  We don't want this. I want the default "Favorites" text for the tab. If I unregister the hhactivex.dll and recompile, the "Glossary" string on the tab thankfully goes away, showing just "Favorites". If I register the dll again or move the compiled help onto a system with a registered hhactivex.dll, the problem reappears all by itself when the help is launched.
How can I get my Favorites tab back to normal? I suspect this problem is contained somewhere in the HHP file, specifically my Windows definition. But I've tried recreating the hhp, and the window definition many times, but it still appears. I even at one point tried removing the Favorites tab but then the mystery "Glossary" text moves onto infesting the Search tab.
Here's my hhp innards if it helps:

Is RH somehow still doing something to it even though technically I'm not using it to compile? Is there some other setting or file somewhere that could be controlling this or is it just a compiler bug that I've never noticed?

Thanks Cara, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing. In this problem the Favorites tab in the CHM was showing up with the word "Glossary" in it. Anyway, it's water under the bridge now for me. Things are better now that we're localizing our Engish RH project directly, instead of our old way of decompiling the English chms and sending the decompiled htms.

  • Glossary Not Appearing in Windows 7 64 Bit

I have RH7 installed on XP. All is OK when I view the CHM file in XP.  When I view the CHM file in W7 64 Bit, the glossary does not appear.
Do I need to install RH7 under W7 64 bit to get the glossary to work under W7 64 bit?  If that is true, one issue is I have Office 2010 which RH7 doesn't support and I'm not in a position to upgrade to RH10.
Is there any way to keep RH7 installed on XP and generate the CHM file that shows the glossary under W7 64 bit?
    Thank you.
    Shawn

IIRC you’ll have to register the 64 bit dll for CHM viewing – search the forums; this issue has come up before

  • How do I create a glossary in Flash Catalyst CS5

I can't seem to locate where I could implement such a SWF in catalyst.
I've been intrigued by all the demos showing datalists when linked to display flash video's and images. I however cant find a quick demo on how to do it with basic text.
Is there a way to could build a quick glossary SWF that may be inserted into Adobe Captivate 5 or other type of E-learning app.
A data list of Term and Definition should be quite easy if all that you want to do is is display the terms in the data list and then on select change two text input sources to Definition and Term that were stored in the data list.

Downloaded the Demo of Master Collection CS 5.5 which now has round tripping between Catalyst and Flash Builder. Looks like Catalyst still does not let me set text items based on selections in a datalist. Flash Builder 4.5 from CS 5.5 suite, however allows me to edit the project and make the change to the code to allow the datalist to change text.
In the sequence I can edit the Richtext UIComponent to:
    s:SetAction property="text" value="{list1.selectedItem}"
However now I've tried to insert the compiled project into Captivate 5. No go. The Final SWF generated from Captivate goes wonky when I insert the SWF Animation from Flex Builder (even if I use Animation Slide). I copied all the files from the Generated Flex Builder App and externalized all Animations in
Captivate to see if that would solve the problem but still no go.
Maybe I need to create a wrapper for Flex Builder SWF's ......

  • How do I create a glossary in RH9 without typing all the terms & defs?

I have searched all available doc and this is what I've tried:
Linking to a Word 2010 doc with just the glossary
Linking to a Word 2010 doc with glossary appended to existing topic
(For both of the above, I chose "convert glossary" in settings AND used unique Word paragraph styles not used anywhere else in my project--mapped one to glossary term and one to glossary definition.)
    What I got:
In both cases, the glossary came through as a topic (or added to the existing topic when appended), but what am I failing to do to get the glossary to be recognized as a glossary?
P.S. I hand entered one term and it generates just fine. However, in any of the settings locations where there's a choice to "Add to existing glossary" or "Create new," I notice that the "add" feature is grayed out.  Is this a clue...or a random, unrelated issue?

In Linking if you want to convert glossary then only option available is to create a new associated glossary for each Linked Word Document. "Add to existing glossary" option is available only for import workflow and not for Linking.
Since, you have already selected the option "Convert Glossary", you must have given a glossary name say "MyWordGlossary". So, are you sure your glossary items are not coming in this newly created glossary "MyWordGlossary", you can open this glossary from "Project Manager" Pod.
Also, please note that when a GlossaryTerm style is followed by a GlossaryDefinition style paragraph then only a new Glossary item is created in RoboHelp. So, your glossary term and definition should be in pair in the word document to get converted properly in RoboHelp.
NOTE: Your Glossary will not get created in (Default) Glossary but in "MyWordGlossary".

  • Glossary tab doesn't display and Glossary pop ups don't work

TCS 3.5 (FrameMaker 10, RoboHelp HTML, version 9)
    Windows XP version 5.1 sp3
    Internet Explorer 8.0
My apologizes if this should be in a different forum.  Also, from searching I have found that the problem is usually that the DLL has not been loaded -- I have done that. So I am at a loss. Thanks in advance for your help!
Problem: My .chm output does not have a Glossary tab and the Glossary text pop-ups in my topics do not work.
Background: Since I am new to TCS 3.5 I'm going to give my entire process. Quite frankly I'm not even sure if my entire process is correct.
    Steps:
Before I began: I loaded the HHActiveX.dll. Here's the proof:
    Create a blank project.
Import master page (File > Import > Master Page).
Load project settings (File > Project Settings > Import).
Link FrameMaker Book (File > Link > FrameMaker Document)
Configure Properties (Right-click the book file in RH and click Properties).
In Properties, select Convert FrameMaker Table of Contents and give a name.
In Properties, select Convert Glossary and give a name.
In Project Manager pod, right-click the Glossary topic (System Management GLO) and click Set as Default.
Update Project (File > Update > Update All).
Run Glossary Hotspot Wizard (when running wizard, select the glossary topic that was set as default in step 8)
Edit the UpdateMarkedGlossaryTerms.jsx script (change the GlossaryName variable to the Glossary topic created in step 8 and change the GlossaryStyle variable to TextPopUp)
Run Update Marked Glossary Terms script (In Script Explorer pod, right-click the UpdateMarkedGlossaryTerms.jsx script and click Run).
Run graphicinreferencepages.jsx script (this inserts my note graphics from FM reference pages)
Configure Microsoft HTML Help layout.  Here's the properties file:
    16. In the properties file I selected the Glossary topic that I had set as my default in step 8.
    17. Click Save and generate.
Result: In the .chm file (and in View Selected Item in RH) when I click a glossary term in a topic, I get "This program cannot display the webpage". Also, the Glossary tab is not displayed.

    Welcome to our community, Linda
In RoboHelp, if you open the Glossary pod (View > Pods > Glossary > Select Glossary) do you see terms and definitions listed there?
If not, that would explain it as the Glossary has no entries.
Assuming it does have entries, you may simply need to enable the tab by clicking View > Pods > Project Set-up. Expanding the Windows section in the pod and double-clicking your CHM window.
A CHM window looks like this:
If you don't see a CHM window, you will need to create one. If you do see a CHM window, double-click it. Then ensure the Glossary is enabled.

  • Include a Glossary Page in a Webi report for report documentation

    Hi experts,
My client would like to include a Glossary Page at the start/end of each Webi report. This page should include documentation/explanation of each dimension detail, measure, formula, etc shown on the report.
I cannot find any designated location in the Webi report for documentation purpose. Assuming I have created this documentation in a word/html document, what is the easiest way of including this info in the Webi report?
So far I can think of 2 options:
    1) Include a new report with one or more blank cells, and paste the text from the word/html document into the blank cell.
Pros: Can be printed out together with the report contents (print both reports together).
Cons: Considerable effort with creating this page
    2) Include a blank cell in the original/separate report, and insert a hyperlink for this word/html document into the blank cell.
    Pros: Less effort involved
Cons: Cannot be printed out together with the report contents
Besides these 2 options, are there better ways of creating the Glossary page?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
    Linda

We do something similiar in that users cannot create a new document.  Users can only copy and edit the existing template for new reports.  The template has standard headers, footers and confidentiality statements that are required on all reports.
Here are some of the standard formulas we include in the header/documentation report tab:
    ="Report Title: "+DocumentName()
    ="Run User: "+CurrentUser()
    ="Run Date: "+LastExecutionDate()
=If (DocumentPartiallyRefreshed();"Your document contains partial data only")
    =DocumentName()
    =DataProviderSQL([Query 1])
These formulas automatically fill in some of the basic data using option 1 from your list.

  • Business Functions of type Validation/Constraint not used when defined in the Glossary

    Hi,
the problem is the following: in the Glossary, we have some Business Rules defined. They are of type Validation or Constraint and shall be used to validate the data in the system. These Business Rules are used in Domains in a CDM model.
From that CDM model we are generating a PDM model (for HANA, but it's not working for any of the databases available for selection). Now: I would expect, as this has been defined in the CDM, the Business Rules replicated in the PDM model and used as constraints.
This is unfortunately working only for Business Functions, which are directly defined in the CDM model, not for those ones, defined in the Glossary and reused in the CDM model.
    Working case:
    - define Business Rule in CDM
    - define Domain in CDM and assign Business Rule
    - assign the domain to a attribute
    - generate PDM from the CDM model
    - the Business Rule is replicated in the PDM model, the check constraint for the table is generated correctly
    NOT working case:
    - define Business Rule in Glossary
    - define Domain in CDM and assign the Business Rule from the Glossary
    - assign the domain to a attribute
    - generate PDM from the CDM model
    - the Business Rule is NOT replicated in the PDM model, the check constraint for the table is MISSING
Do you think it's a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
    P.S.
    We are on 16.5 SP05
    Thanks,
    Rafal

Looks like a bug to me; I would expect the source of the rule to be irrelevant, assuming the PDM has access to the relevant metadata at the time of generation. Perhaps Glossary shortcuts don't have access to all the metadata?
