GoDaddy/.Mac issue... maybe

Hi guys,
I just recently bought a GoDaddy domain to host my iWeb site.
So. I have to first admit I know NOTHING about what I am doing and it's probably very easy which means I am making it much more complicated than it really is.
So here is what happened:
1) Had my original site:http://web.mac.com/halcyonseven/StephenMillersWebsite/About.html
2) Bought this domain: http://www.halcyon7.com from GoDaddy
3) When I re-made my website in iWeb I published first to the old website. No problems.
4) I then went into iWeb and clicked the "Set Up Personal Domain" under the File Menu
5) Followed the instruction to forward my site using GoDaddys account settings. This is where I got confused. Apple said to use "web.mac.com" as my forward address, which I took to mean use MY address which is "web.mac.com/halcyonseven". Did I do that right?
6) Clicked the "continue" button that .Mac told me to click once I finished setting up the forwarding from GoDaddy. It told me it may take up to 48 hours to take effect. Great.
So now when I try to visit my site or click the "visit my site" button in iWeb it takes me to this: http://www.halcyon7.com/ where there is only a message letting me know it cannot find the server. My redesigned site is also not appearing in my web.mac.com/halcyonseven account. It's actually showing my OLD website.
So: Anyone kind enough to tell me if I just need to wait a few days to see if it really worked or did I do something wrong in my list above?

Now, if you type in
http://web.mac.com/halcyonseven/halcyon7/Home.html
it will stay
http://web.mac.com/halcyonseven/halcyon7/Home.html
it will not turn into the new domain. This is how it's meant to be.
And that's why:
On personal domains there's no content because it's only an alias replacing the .mac name with yourdomain.com hiding the .mac name but .mac is still there. If you prefer it works like an iframe, loading a page with content in another page without content itself. The real content is on .mac and that's why the .mac name still exists. So a personal domain basically just forwards to the .mac name and pages.

the problems is receiving them...there is an enourmous delay-up to 8 hours!
things i have done/figured out:
on the godaddy email client all is good
on my iphone the account works
i set up an account in entourage and the account works
i upgraded to snow leopard
i deleted the accounts and recreated them
here is the rub...i figured out a "work around". if i manually "sync all accounts" in mail and then click on get mail the mail comes in immediatetly or if i delete an email in one of the accounts and then click get mail the mail comes in immediately. but Mac Mail won't retrieve email other wise.
I know that this is a problem others have expereineced but i have not been able to find the solution
i believe that it is an issue with Mac Mail and perhaps the IDLE feature (disabling IDLE does not help that much)
i have spent countless hours on the phone with godaddy and today they told me that the problem is a mac issue and therefore i am on my own.
any ideas???

Okay - I fixed it. Here's what I did.
- Deleted the entire mail folder inside my Preferences folder. ~/Library/<userfolder>
- Kept the files in the trash just in case, but didn't need them
- Rebooted
- Opened the System Preferences
- Selected "Mail, Contacts & Calendars"
- Verified the previous account was gone
- Clicked Create
- Created a new account and then opened Mail
- Voila! Email
Note - if you trash the mail folder inside Preferences, it will delete any local emails. All my email is IMAP and I never store anything locally, so everything syched right back when the account was recreated.

Which is better for solving Mac issues

I have been experiencing Kernel Panics and program crashes. I want something that is good for testing hardware and OS issues. Can either of these find corrupted data files? I am looking at two utilities for purchase. Which is better for solving Mac Issues?

When you say "complete bootable backup" do you mean that it contains the OS + all my applications? Basically a clone of the start-up?
Yes, you have that very clear. I use Tri-backup or CCC for this normally, but there are other options.

Yep, right back to 100%, excluding HW issues.
With all my software... it takes a day to reinstall all of it to a complete image.
Yes, the only sensible thing is a Clone... or two. Most problems can be overcome by simply Verifying/Repairing the HD once in awhile, Repairing Permissions before and after every update/upgrade, and turning off Auto Updates in SW Update CP... wait a couple of weeks and check these forums for the number of problems with any update.
PS. DiskWarrior has saved me hundreds of times from having to do complete new Installs or cloning back of Installs, I figure that's saved me 10's of thousands of hours & grief... I appreciate Alsoft so much that I don't even go for the generous upgrade offers on new versions... I just buy the new version completely at Retail.
PPS. Funny thing, you'll read something like DiskWarrior is a one Pony Dog Show or something... just does one thing... I just have to laugh outloud... Yeah, the one thing is... cure my incurable Mac Problems 99.9% of the time!

I am running 10.8 and I am trying to get a E-mu 1x1 midi/usb connector to work with my keyboards. It's not working with any keyboard at all. I believe it is a Mainstage/Mac issue. Mainstage can recognize the the interface but it won't work.

Here are two screen shots to show you what I am seeing. The first screen shot shows it allowing me to select (highlighted in blue) my admin user (which is what I am locced in as). The second screen shot shows it allowing me to select the "Guest" user (highlighted in blue). However when I click on the user "Orion" nothing happens. It will not change to highlight that user.

It very possibly can be an email issue. Some email providers encode files to make transfer faster. When pdf files are decoded, it could break them.
The first thing to try if you haven't already is to save the attachment (without trying to open it) to your desktop and THEN try to open it. Another would be to have whomever is sending the files to you, Zip them first.

Mail or .Mac issue ... maybe neither???

I've recently signed up for a trial .Mac account and have since sync'ed my mail.
I found that one mail folder on one of the sync'ed Macs has a problem. Selecting a message to view, the content area says something like ....
'this message has not been downloaded from server, this account must be taken online'.
On one computer this is not a problem. On the other it is. It is a POP mail account. Both computers have Mac OS 10.4.11. Not sure what else is relevant.
Any feedback appreciated.

I'm downloading the POP mail to each computer and also the IMAP mail (.Mac). Then sync'ing the Mail Rules to sort and file, I have mail boxes set up identically on each computer.

Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder in the Finder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level of ~/Library/Mail/. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
Before actually posting that information, edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you should keep private, e.g. replace any real username with “username” to hide your real email address. Other than that, report the file/folder names as accurately as possible.

Can you see there the mailbox that has the problem, either in Mailboxes or in the POP-username@mailserver account folder? Where exactly? Does it contain as many .emlx files in the Messages folder as messages show up in Mail?
There are two folders with problems, both in Mailboxes on the 450AGP.
First: a second level folder: Mail shows 149 msgs (24 view ok; 125 view with 'not dnld'd msg')
Finder shows 114 msgs
Second a third level folder: Mail shows 0 msgs
Finder shows 9 msgs
Are there any significant differences between the contents of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder on both computers?
Yes. The 450 finder>folder shows 114 msgs 896.emlx to 1995.emlx
The MDD finder/folder shows 152 msgs 1000.emlx to 2021.emlx
It's quite likely that I have managed messages differently on each computer. Some being deleted on one while not on the other. It isn't the end of the world here, but for future reference I am very interested in whats going on with the msgs whose content is viewing as 'not downloaded yet'
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

Stroke issues - maybe file is corrupt?

I am working with a very big file. It is 1 page, 2 feet x 2 feet and contains over 1000 graphic boxes, each with an imported tiff file. I know I'm pushing InDesign to its limits, but up until now, after installing extra ram and keeping the file at "typical" display, InDesign has been performing well.
The problem is that though all the objects have no stroke - i've verified this in the swatches and stroke palette - a light gray line appears around each of the boxes. in some places, the gray line does not continue around the entire box. Frame edges are turned off.
I thought that maybe it was just a preview issue and tried printing the file, but the gray stroke remained.
I've also tried copying and pasting the contents of the file into a new indesign file, but the strokes still remain then too.
So, if anyone has any ideas of how to tackle this, I'd be greatly appreciative!

What happens if instead of copying all of the contents of the original file, you copy only a small number. If that gets rid of the gray strokes, then try increasing the number copied over, until the problem reappears if at all.
If the problem occurs with only one object copied, try closing the original one, saving the new one, closing it, and reopen it. What then?
Also explore placing some of the tifs into a new fresh file. If the problem still shows, then it is nothing to do with the original file, but something in your installation. Try deleting the preferences.

Edit: Does it happen in Tiger? Check that even if you have to take it to another computer.
Edit 2: Also try an inx round trip.

NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 for MAC---Issues with Adobe Premeire

I've had a multitude of issues with Adobe Premiere on this system and I'm not sure what to attribute it to. First of all: I have two MAC Book Pro's that run APremiere, with similiar specs and only 8GB of RAM. These two laptops run APremiere flawlessly and it's because of this reason that I can deduce, that my 'tower' is having issues because of the NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 installed; it's the only difference, besides the RAM, that the computers have. Has anyone had issues using the NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 before? Some of the issues I've been having are (please note, these issues are random, happen at random times and on random projects. The majority of the footage I use is MOV (from DSLR cameras) and MP4's (from a Sony EX-1)):
*Renders crashing
*Slow clip playback
*An oddity: certain MP4 files will go out of sync-on playback from APremiere and even in a VLC player
*AMedia Encoder crashes
Maybe the NVIDIA has nothing to do with it?

One way to accrue evidence would be to turn off Mercury Playback in the Project Settings.
I have that card, and turning of MPE often gets me through a session. Some here have claimed that the card is the cause of the frequent Serious Errors, and disabling it is the solution.
That's hardly satisfactory when one of the best features of Pr is the ability to use CUDA.
However, anything going through the card also has to pass through Pr and the OS. Adobe claims that updating to 10.8 fixes some bugs, but according to some here (myself included), not enough.
I had one project recently that I couldn't get the Serious Errors to stop until I re-installed the nVidia driver.
But, your list of problems could be due to corrupt Pr preferences. If you have a Mac, you need to get used to refreshing your prefs several times a day. They could also be corrupt media. That will cause renders to crash.

Forward from Godaddy. Issues on MACbook

When I try to forward a page from go daddy to a different site, it works everywhere but safari. When I try from safari, instead of HTML at the end of the link, it shortens it to HTM and then of course doesn't work. Issue is on MAC. iphone and iPad redirect perfectly.
Any suggestions would be appreciated?

This is not a Mac problem.
We use Windows and are having the same / similar problem(s) with godaddy email. We use the Thunderbird mail client and early October is when we first started noticing the problems (had been fine before that) .
SMTP outbound fails intermittently and error messaes indicate the SMTP server cannot be found or similar message. It has failed in the middle of an outgoing batch several times (when SMTP server has obviously been "found" - and sometimes it will complete the batch and leave one or two sitting in the outbound folder. Changing port settings has no effect on this intermittent problem.
Godaddy says there is no problem and suggests we use Godaddy webmail instead of Thunderbird - which is not convenient since we simultaneously manage 10 or so mailboxes for different domains - and the Godaddy webmail interface has become very slow to load. We do access webmail from android phones and, except for the slowness, the outbound from webmail does function. If we find a resolution we'll share here since this does not feel like an OS or ISP issue.

Microsoft for mac issues( cloned hard drive)

I replaced my hard drive. I cloned it to my new hard drive. But now my Microsoft for mac is asking for the product key. I went into a back up pulled out the plist file and placed into the library on my new hard drive. But still nothing. Anybody have any tricks?

Try calling MS support and explaining the situation, maybe they will issue a new key.

New to Mac - Issues with imported Excel Docs

Imported my Excel docs from my PC and they made the trip but when I open them, some don't work properly. I have some billing statements that I made with Excel templates. Whenever I open and try to save them, I get an error message:
Users/JaneDoe/Documents/Private Practice/Billing Statements/Jones 2 16 05 MAC.numbers
I'm having some issues with Word documents that have tables in them also.
I love my new MAC but have many business forms that I need to use. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your answer, I suspected as much. I've been thinking about this and have decided that since those are historical files and not working files, I'll just leave them alone and create new billing statements using Mac. It's certainly easy enough to do.
The Word documents, though, are a different story. I've scanned pages out of some manuals and many of the pages are questionnaires with tables to indicate answers. Some documents are multiple pages and every other page I view is blank. It's difficult and sometimes impossible to delete the blank page or move the table up. If I can't salvage these, I'll have to go back into the manuals and scan the pages all over again.
And I don't want to partition my hard drive, run Windows parallel or invest in Office for Mac because that all defeats the purpose of my transition to a Mac in the first place - ease of use.

Extreme with shared disk and two users on same mac issue

Hi,
just got my airport extreme + a 1TB hard drive for disk sharing and everything worked great until my wife came home (not her fault )
My setup: I have 1 mac which we both share with two user accounts plus I have a Windows 7 machine. I setup the Airport Extreme drive sharing with 'accounts' as I thought/know this will work with Windows (smb I think) which it sure enough did and I could connect to my share from both my Windows machine and my macbook air and was rather pleased how easy it was.
My wife then came home logged on and she could see the drive and even see the root folder in Finder but saw no files whatsoever and instead of the 'sharing icon' (not sure what to call it looks like a hard disk with wifi signals) she gets a circle with a red bar in it in the finder title... so I disconnected the shared disk in finder and reconnected entering the account details again and things worked for her. I then signed into my account and now I had the same issue... I could see disk but see nothing on it which means I have to disconnect and reconnect etc. etc.
I even setup two seperate accounts now in the AirPort Utility for disk sharing and use one for my account and one for my wifes but the issue remains, by the way no issue on the Windows 7 box.
HELP the whole reason why I got this is so we can share our pictures and videos etc. on 2 machines and 2 computers with 2 accounts.

Can't update ipod (windows-mac issue)

My mom got a MacBook on sale so this is now what I use for everything; it is faster and more efficient than the PC that we own. On my iTunes, I can do everything exceptupdate my iPod nano. It simply says "Only Macintosh-formatted iPods can be updated." How do I change my Windows-formatted iPod to a Macintosh-formatted iPod?

To change the format, select it in iTunes on the Mac
and select Restore.
I am having a similar issue with my daughters ipod nano. It was formatted for windows when we bought it (we have the songs on a mac) but it only downloads some of her library not all. Having looked in some of the forums it suggests restoring however when we plug the ipod into the mac the button for restoring the ipod to factory settings is not highlighted. In this case how can the ipod be restored to a mac setting? We are using the latest itunes software and OSX operating system.

Canon IR c1028 - USB and Mac issues

I have a Canon IR c1028:

I have it USB attached and Network attached. The network attached prinitng works fine but one of my home compouters is habitually attached to my coprporate VPN and so I use USB attachment. I have recently started having issues with printing from the MacBook which runs YOSEMITE as follows:
1. Instal the printer using the driver from the above link (printer appears to be connected and online)
2. Send print job to printer....printer makes a sound in recognition but if you watch the print queue from the Mac you see a cycle of:
Priniting
The printer is not connected
The printer is offline
This repeats every time and it does not resolve if you delete the printer and even if you reset the printer subsystem before re-installing
