For those of you using godaddy and forwarding to .mac, how long did it take for the domain forwarding to take effect?

While I do not forward any domains to .mac, I do use domain forwarding at godaddy.com, here is their policy,
Your changes have been submitted!
There will be a short duration while your request is pending update. During this period, several details of the domain(s) will be temporarily unavailable.
Domain forwarding changes can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
For domain forwarding to work, the domain must be set to use our Parked Nameservers.
I have found the domain forwarding to work as fast as 30 minutes or so, I've never had one take more than a few hours and never 24 hours... Best wishes on your project, Rick

Several Iweb and godaddy questions.

Hello Folks:
Just to give you an idea of my proficiency with web design, I'm the equivalent of a student pilot who just soloed. Just enough knowledge to be dangerous and a threat to mankind. Here are my questions:
1. How do I use text editor or word to modify my HTML? I can view the HTML of my site, copy and paste, but can't get it back into iweb as other than alphabet soup. I specifically want to change the email address. I wrote the site having my personal email address in my address book and can't change it to the business email address by just re-publishing with the change to my address book.
2. I published to Godaddy and of course cant use the counter. I tried to follow the instructions after starting an account at Statcounter.com but don't know how to insert it then change it back to a web site. Same basic problem as the email.
2.1 Why would Mac consider something as basic as a counter to be proprietary?
3. Can't get the slideshow to work on Godaddy. It works fine on my computer. On Godaddy, the slide show bar at the very bottom does not publish. I get an enlarged photo with a border on only three sides, nothing at the bottom. I can also enlarge each photo one at a time with the same results.
4. Is the Iweb loaded on my Mac a watered down version? Seems like a lot of features may be lacking, especially if you want to do a business website like mine. I love my Macs and don't want to have to switch to some windows program, but need more than I see on Iweb.

You should be able to though... this is strange... Especially if you are publishing to a folder, then you should be able to re-upload the newly published files with the proper email address.

The resources for the counter are hosted by .Mac. They can't possibly account for every variable as far as available resources on other hosts. (php, etc - stuff I don't understand nor want/care to but thats what it is about probably)

Try re-uploading your slideshow_assets folder.
I can also enlarge each photo

IWeb+Pocast+Godaddy=Question/Frustration

If you click on the link "podcast" then the "listen" link the Podcast archive loads up but all I see is a quicktime image with no podcast happening. When I save my iWeb Site to a folder and then view it I see the podcast. I see the file in the Podcast folder of my site on my ftp server. But no workie Podcast!!!!!!!!!! I checked with my hosting company and the podcast is supported and they could not tell me why it doesn't work.

Multiple questions about using iWeb '09 with my Host Excellence, GoDaddy & Storenvy Accounts. Can you Help?

Hello, my name is Luis Diaz and I have always appreciated the help here in the iWeb community. I've been using iWeb for a long time. For some reason my usernames are not working lately - LuisDiazArt or RabidArt)
I updated my domain service with Host Excellence before MobileMe expired and thank you guys for the help with that. So far it's been a flawless service and because of that I'm very happy. I also have all my domains in GoDaddy. They have been very helpful
Okay I'm going to try to explain my current problem. I'm trying to create a subdomain in GoDaddy for my website: LuisDiazArt.com
I went and added a Subdomain in the Control Panel as: store.LuisDiazArt.com The subdomain suppose to mask my store: luisdiaz.storenvy.com
I thought by adding this subdomain it would make all the addresses look similar (and more clean) just in case someone gets lost along the way.
So what's happening after I waited an hour is I'm getting: http://store.luisdiazart.com/LuisDiazArt.com/Art_of_Luis_Diaz_%7C_LuisDiazArt.co m.html
I'm getting the huge and familair long addresses and it is not pointing to my store, but to the homepage.
Did I do something wrong or do I not understand something fully about subdomains? I thought you can make a subdomain point to another site. Perhaps it can't be done the way I'm thinking about this.
So to fix this issue I am thinking about making a duplicate website with a different domain name (RabidArt) and mask it with LuisDiazArt (this is site name I use on business card and everything else). After that make a subdomain with the same: http://store.luisdiazart.com
Perhaps this may fix the problem.
So to do this I may need to add another site onto my account (Basic and not Business) on HostExcellence.
So my other questions are:
Can I have multiple domains or websites using iWeb on a Basic Host Excellence Account? I checked out a few websites, but couldn't really find out if I can have multiple domains/websites using iWeb on Host Excellence with my current account.
I do know how to make a new duplicate site, but do you publish it the same way as you would with the regular site or do I have to so something different?
Hopefully the problem can be fixed not having to do a new site and maybe it was something I did wrong when I added a subdomain.

To add more domains you need to upgrade your account.
To have a sub domain for your store you need to create a separate site in iWeb and upload these files to the store.luisdiazart.com folder.
The files for the main site go in the luisdiazart folder.
Use an external hyperlink to link one to the other.

Quick Question - Setting up Personal Domain with godaddy

Just a quick question to make sure I've done this correctly?
Ok, I've published my iWeb website.
I've purchased a personal domain with godaddy.
I've set up the personal domain in my mobile me account.
I then logged into my godaddy account and went to 'Total DNS Control and MX Records'
I changed the following under CNAME (Aliases)
www web.me.com 1 Hour
and then added a new CNAME Record
www.*******.com web.me.com 1 Hour
Have I done this all correctly?
Will it take a few hours to take effect?
Anything else I need to consider?

CNAME settings can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
As long as you have forwarded your domain name to web.me.com, then it should be okay.

Godaddy private hosting question

I was about to register a domain with godaddy. I was going to register a .info. As I went through the checkout process, the site implored me to sign up for private registration for an extra $6.99, otherwise all of my private information would become available online. Obviously, I'm not crazy about that. Does anyone who is here who uses godaddy use the private registration? Is this something that I should use, or am I just being paranoid?

I don't use Godaddy but instead use Yahoo Business and when I signed up they offered me the option of checking out with private registration (an extra 10 bucks) or just keep my purchase as it was. Personally I thought about it and decided to go ahead and pay the extra 10 bucks to keep my information private. In the long run it turned out to be better, I receive very little spam in my yahoo inbox, and I have the feeling of insurement that Yahoo will not give my personal information out to third parties without my consent.
But really it is up to you, and if you want to spend the extra $6.99, I would recommend it, as I would imagine you do not want your personal information all over the web, but once again it up to you.

Godaddy hosting switching question

If I decide to switch to Godaddy for their web hosting services, wil I lose the password feature in iWeb to protect my sites? How can I get around this if I go with Godaddy? Are there any other things I should be aware of that I will lose by going with another hosting service?

still have about 10 domains I have to move off there.
I followed suggestions from others to use them and
then was sorely disappointed with the usability of
their admin tools. Unbelievably bad interface.
I'd be curious about the details. Are you mainly talking about their domain management facilities? Or did you have problems putting sites on the server or with server performance? Would your problems apply to someone with just one domain?

IWeb and GoDaddy combo question:

I built a web site (with pictures and videos) on iWeb '09. I'm using GoDaddy for ftp hosting. All the Login info is correct according to GoDaddy ie; login name, password, server address, user name. iWeb won't accept the password as valid. I've changed it on GoDaddy a couple times to reset and try again on iWeb. No luck. Any answers?

Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Another option is to publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck, Transmit or YummyLite to upload the files to the server. You might try one of those clients to see if it will take your user name and password. With them you'll get a Finder like window of your account folder on the server.

IPad GoDaddy email question

After the recent update, my boss' iPad popped all 8,000 emails to the device. Is there a reasonably quick fix or do I have to take it home and delete them while watching movies? Thanks! (I've already changed his GoDaddy setting to delete emails after a time certain...sigh...)

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!
Also, what are Orange Freeserve settings on the mail server with regard to how many days to 'leave a copy of themessage on the server' and 'delete after xxxx days'? If it is not readily avilable on your Mac mail management pogramme You should be able to ascertain them by going into your account via the web.

2 questions - shadows, godaddy

The shadows I put around my photos in iWeb do not show up when the pages are posted. Can anyone help?
Also, I have terrible trouble posting my iiWeb pages to goDaddy. The only thing I've found that works is to kill off everything on the GoDaddy site every single time, then post my iWeb pages. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Regarding the shadows what browser are you using? Can you give us the URL of the site?
Can't help you much with the GoDaddy upload issue. What ftp client are you using? If it's one that GoDaddy provided try using the free CyberDuck. It's very well regarded here.

Question re: what files & folders to upload to godaddy hosting account

I created a small website in a local folder named "lovecake." Inside are three folders named images, pages, and lightbox_assets. I have a hosting account with godaddy that allows me to have multiple sites. I have three sites on there now. The first one I uploaded before I upgraded my space so that I could have more than one site, so it is not in a separate folder. The other two are in named folders they call directories. I need to upload this site into a folder(directory) named "alina" that I created for the domain name of livelovecake.net. I plan to upload with Fetch, which I have used before rather than trying to use DW to upload because I have to make sure that I upload my sites into separate folders which I know how to do with Fetch, but am not sure how I would do it with DW. Do I need to upload the whole folder on my computer named "lovecake" with its contents into the "alina" folder, or do I just upload the folders inside "lovecake," eg., images, pages, and lightbox_assets? Will there be a problem because the folder on my computer and the folder on my godaddy hosting account have different names? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Geoff for the tip. I will read up on it. The site I just made is very simple and only 5 pages, since it is my first effort in DW and I was just getting my feet wet-have used iWeb in the past. But I hope to do something more complicated in the future, so will probably need to keep better track of stuff.

Follow up to .JSP page will not display on GoDaddy Linux hosting

I think my last post got locked but I wanted to explain my reasoning (I am not trying to abuse a forum). I think forums are filled with wonderful people who may have dealt with similar issues. This is my first Java hosted project so I was just hoping someone had some insight.

I am not trying to use this as a GoDaddy support forum. I have tried calling GoDaddy multiple times and they do not know why it does not work. There response is… “we do not provide support for scripting”. Please, correct me if I am wrong here, but the JSP file I am trying to display does not contain any scripting. Is that a true statement?
To give an update…
I logged in this morning and now, the JSP page displays. I was aware that GoDaddy redeploy’s Tomcat every night at around 1:00 am Arizona time, but I am not sure why this corrected the issue.
When I was testing locally, I could place any new JSP files in Tomcat and view it without having to do a redeploy. Why does this work differently on GoDaddy? I am assuming it has something to do with the shared hosting but I am not sure what. Does any one have any insight on this?

IWeb Widgets gone from Published Site Hosted by GoDaddy

I have been using third-party widgets to create components for my iWeb (3.0.4 version) website. They are Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack items. (I copy to iWeb html snippet code windows the code from the Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widget and hit "apply" and they work in TEST mode). I tested everything on my site to a local file prior to publishing the site to the internet. Upon publishing to the internet, none of these Pro-Pack widgets are visible on my site. They all functioned fine when they were in Local file "TEST" mode. They don't even appear as blank boxes or question marks (which has happened when I have incorrect paths). I wonder if it is the pathways to GoDaddy? I have spoken to GoDaddy techs about my dilemma and they only say the path to my webroot is:
/public_html
This I don’t understand. Don’t I need http://www. ….. and other file references to get to the specific file in my webroot at GoDaddy?
Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack widgets I am using:
Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)
Simple Hover Effect
Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)
Photo Slideshow
When I created the Pro-Pack widgets for iWeb I used file links (through GoDaddy hosting) like http://www.wildmonkeysproductioons.com/images/WMP_VIDEO_PHOTOS/....specific photo.jpg
or---inside the cover path [in Apple Style Video Gallery (Youtube or Vimeo)] or a Youtube link in the video path (example): http://www.youtube.com/embed/LWWLM8QhVaw?rel=0
I also have non-Beyond iWeb Pro-Pack generated widgets like Youtube video widgets that are also missing from the website. I believe the problem is not with my Pro-Pack widgets but with my pathways to GoDaddy.
Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful ideas?
I do not understand website building very well and website code, for sure, I do not know.

I took your advice and changed some file and folder names. I then updated my widgets to create continuity of connection with their files and photos in GoDaddy's File Manager. Now the BeyondiWeb widgets [Panoramic Slideshow (Smooth Div Scroll)] no longer recognize the path to them. No matter what I use as a path the link is broken.
GoDaddy says the following is the absolute path: /home/username/public_html/

Having a hard time with Spry Image & CS5 on GoDaddy

Please excuse the newbie here. I hope I can give you all the info up front.
I downloaded and installed the Spry Image Slideshow with Filmstrip widget just fine into DreamWeaver CS5. I then changed Donald Booth's page to show images from my hobby of 12 images, deleting what I didn't need after that. I created thumbnails, directed everything to where it needs to go (so I thought) and saved it all. I then used FileZilla to upload to my GoDaddy site at www.cargobay13.com the file cafnew2.html and the Spry folder. The actual page is at www.cargobay13.com/cafnew2.html . So, the image file works great on my PC (a windows xp pro unit), but when I try to look at it on the internet (in google Chromer, IE8 and Firefox), it gives me a bunch of messages like "SpryPanelSelector.js requires SpryWidget.js!", etc. Then, the webpage displays all 12 images in a column, one on top of the other. I have uploaded the Spry-UI-1.7 folder into the root directory, and for good measure I copied all the individual files into the directory, too. So, what do I do now?

I had one question. When you changed the:
<script src="http://www.cargobay13.com/Spry-UI-1.7/includes/SpryWidget.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
TO
<script src="http://www.pleysier.com.au/Spry-UI-1.7/includes/SpryWidget.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
I see that you swapped the cargobay13.com --to--> pleysier.com.au ... Does it need to be changed to pleysier.com.au specifically? or is it a diffirent directory in the server?
Im having the Same issue, In Dreamweaver CS5 and in Previw Mode is fine, untill i upload the to my server I receive the [SpryXXXXXX requires SpryXXXXXXX].
