Hi Suneel,
If you are very good at BW, then obviously you can go ahead and learn BPS. As SEM is a planning tool within SAP and planning mainly involves financial planning. Its better if you are good at the processes of FI-CO before learning BPS, CPM and BCS.

Manual data change in SEM-BPS

Dos somebody know how to find possibility of manual data change in the planning layout of SEM-BPS?

Hello Svetlana,
When you meant "to add new (or change existing) data in a planning layout, you have to make use of the function module
API_SEMBPS_SETDATA.
The parameters what you have to pass are:
1) Planning area
2) Planning level (where your layout is defined)
3) Planning package
4) Planning Laoyut
5) Characteristic values of each row
Check the documentation of the Funtion Module (CTRL+F4).
1) Be sure to convert the key figure values in string format, otherwise you would get a runtime error.
2) Make sure that no two rows have same keys (characteristic value tuples)
3) Make sure that all the characteristic values are contained in the planning level (Check the filters)
A simple working example (ABAP Code) you have it from me when things dosen't go forwards.

BW work experience before SEM-BPS?

Hello,
I am a SAP newbie. I have 5 years of Object-Oriented design and development experience using C++/Java. I also have a MBA and have worked in product management/marketing for enterprise software products (customer requirements gathering and defining next version of product, sales support on closing deals) and in strategy developoment.
My goal is to work in SAP-SEM, leveraging my technical and business background. I am currently taking training in BW as was told that I need to understand BW in depth before working in SEM.
I am wondering whether it is required/recommended that I work on one or more client projects in BW before I take up a job in SEM-BPS or another SEM module in order to be effective in a SEM job (after taking training in the appliable SEM module) or whether I can directly take up a SEM job without having to work in BW (but getting trained in BW and practicing the module on my own).

I suggest you go thoroughly through the standards related to accounting and consolidation:
IFRS 3 - Business Combinations
IAS 1 - Presentation of Financial Statements
IAS 7 - Cash Flow Statements
IAS 14 - Segment Reporting
IAS 18 - Revenue
IAS 21 - The Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates
IAS 27 - Consolidated and Separate Financial Statements
IAS 28 - Investments in Associates
IAS 31 - Interests in Joint Ventures
IAS 32 - Financial Instruments: Disclosure and Presentation
IAS 36 - Impairment of Assets
You should understand some basic accounting rules, like any profits/revenues/gains are always credit turnovers (negative in BCS), not only in the balanse sheet, but also in P&L etc.
Don't know any particular books that would be useful (certainly, there are some, I just don't know).
From the courses, it's without doubt SEM240, and probably AC660.
And I'm sure that in your neighborhood you'll be able to find some courses related to consolidation issues provided by Big Four firms. Might be very useful.

SEM BPS and BI-IP

Hi all,
    I am working in SAP BI 7.Currently in my company , project is running in BW BPS.They are going to upgrade to BI-IP.
I have to work in that project in couple of days.I am having only theory based idea only in SEM BPS and BI-IP which i get it from SAP Site.
    If the person in good in SEP BI 7.Can able to manage the BI-IP works on not.Please advise.
    Can anyone help me to give screenshot like how to create the planning folder and planning functions.

SEM-BPS vs myFinancial (business Analytics)

hello
I have read in a book that the planing functions are distributed. e.g. balance planing is in SEM-BPS and the profit planning is in Financial Analytics (business Analytics).
So where I can find a overview? or can somebody write me this.
And I want to ask. If we have Netweaver 4 (included BPS) can we planning balance or can we palnning profit?
Please tell me why.

I can also only guess, but the xApps Analytics focus is "Analytics", while many Business Packages are more on the transactional side. So I guess we will still se both in the future.

SEM BPS or BW BPS

Hi Experts,
I am new to this planning area and have some basic questions.
1. I hear that SEM BPS has become BW-BPS. Does it mean that automatically from BI 3.5 or 7.0 the SEM server has been integrated to BW system(single system with BW and SEM together)? Pl. give me clarity on this.
2. What If I had the SEM BPS separate system and want to migrate to BW BPS system?. Is it possible?
3. I see that SAP is more recommending BI-IP. Does it mean that i have to change to BI-IP if i want to have better planning?.
4. I see that CRM needs BW-BPS planning framework as the basis for CRM planning functions. Does it mean that even if I have SEM BPS, i need to use BW BPS only for CRM market value planning?.

It is not BI-BPS , I think it is BI-IP (Integrated Planning).
You will need a good knowledge of BI to use it. I would suggest, you read a bit about it and if you have a server handy with BI installed, start on it. Then do a short course on BI Planning.
The FI-CO background will help you in visualising the use of BI-IP and the design of the application. To actually model it, you will need to know the BI technical modeling.

SEM BPS Requirements

Does someone have any list of questions to ask during SEM BPS requirements gathering session for new planning process?

1. who plans
2. what is planned, what do the users want to change: quantity / value / ...
3. how ofthen do they plan / is the planning based on a rolling forecast
4. what is the planning horizon / how far in the future do they want to plan
5. How do users select the data they want to plan / what are the relevant selection criteria
6. Do they want to plan on the web or on the GUI
7. What do they want to see when they are planning / do they want to see actuals of past months ?
8. If they want to see actuals of past months / where should this data come from (already in BW / from flat files / ...)
9. Which reports do they want: version comparision / actual - forecast comparison
10. What is the planning process, is there a hierarchy of planners / are plans consolidated and then changed on a higher level
11. Which additional functions should be available to the users (calculations / distribution / ...)
This should give you a good start.

Whatever you feel is important - line by line - mark them and make some questions out of them

Do we need be BW expert to get in to BI-BPS or SEM-BPS??

I am an experienced FICO consultant and want to get in to BI-BPS(formerly SEM-BPS).
Do I need to have in depth BW knowledge for this or moderate knowledge of BW as a FICO consultant is sufficient?
Can please some one suggest me on this?

Does SEM BPS support "Cost Estimates"?

Hi,
I've been given a task to assess if SEM BPS application can do "COST ESTIMATES"?
I don't have enough information, but "COST ESTIMATES" estimates the cost based on certain factors by looking into multiple tables in SAP R/3.
Please remember that I have pretty good idea of SEM-BPS with 2 projects experiences, but, it's just that I don't have enough idea on "COST ESTIMATES".
I appreciate if anyone could share their experiences on "COST ESTIMATES" in BPS.

I do not remeber that this function is available in BPS. What I can suggest is to use an exit function. in this case as you know you should put down on your own the algoritm with ABAP.

We have the Scenario that For General Price Reduction GPR we are maintaining 12% in r/3 that will be replicated to CRM table from there it ll be updated to ODS101 thyen to ODS201 then In CRM users create TA for the product then system picks GPR from ODS201 but its picking 145.7% can aniy one tell how its picking that vale.
