Good software to make and burn movies to dvd using 10.8.2

10.8.2 does not support I DVD I am looking for a good software to make my own movies yet be simple to use and burn to DVDs. I'm a beginner and need help thanks

You can use iDVD with 10.8.2 - I am; it still works (although it is no longer included as it used to be). So, if you have a retail iLife 09 or 11, install it. If you don't, it is absolutely worth going to Amazon or ebay or some other resellers and buying a copy of the retail iLife 11 disk.

  • Burning movies to DVD using imovie

I downloaded some movies I took from my Canon FS100 to iMovie. How do I burn them on a DVD?

First, make a project. Then share your project to the Media Browser.
If you prefer to make a DVD of your raw import, go to the iDVD Media Browser and navigate to the Event file.

    Hello guys
I have a project in my Final Cut just about done.  I want to add my slideshow as part ofthe project and burn it to DVD.  Inmy slideshow, there are some stills from the movie clips and some downloadedfrom the internet but they all look blur when playback and even worse if Iapply Ken Burn to it.   Pleasesome one can tell my how to do it right or it can’t be done because thedownload quality and stills from the clip are not suitable or slideshow.  Thank you

    Thank you Ross.
The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto.  The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT,  the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet. After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not.  The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not.  I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536.  Please enlightenme.  Once again, thank you so much,I really appreciate the time you offered.

  • No sound when burn movie to dvd (premiere elements 3, sony vaio, vista)

    Hi,
When I burn a movie to DVD using premiere elements I end up with no sound.
Analyzing the VOB with avicodec reports it has no audio track - and I get the same problem if burn to a folder or direct to a disc.
Exporting to mpeg or other formats works without problem.
Also - when I try the burn, I find a large .wav file in the temporary files folder, which seems to match the sound the DVD should have.
But for some reason PE isn't combining it into the VOB?
My current workaround is exporting as mpeg, and importing this to moviemaker and burning from there - but it's a pain to do this.
I saw some posts about this topic from last year - and mentioning VAIO as a common factor - but none of the sugggestions there have worked, and I can't find any solution/new info. Apologies if I've missed something in the forums.
Any info/suggestions would be much appreciated!
    cheers,
    Mark

Sadly, we see a number of problems that are unique to the VAIO.
Sony is notorious for rewriting the operating system to fit their needs. Still, you'd think, if Premiere Elements came bundled with it, it would at least work with the system.
I highly recommend manually updating the operating system and firmware (these things become outdated weekly, and outdated firmware can really wreak havoc on your machine), clearing off the junkware, optimizing Vista and making sure you have the latest version of Quicktime and, if you're using Premiere Elements 3, that you have installed the 3.02 patch. These links to the FAQ library at the top of this forum will show you how.

And, if all that fails, it might well be worth a call to Sony, since they supposedly built and tested their machine and software before they sold it.

  • Slide Show from Fotomagico to .mov to DVD using iDVD 08

I used to make slide shows using analogue equipment (multiple slide projectors and electronic controlled slide changes involving fading and timing). These slideshows were projected onto a large screen (2m * 2m). With the introduction of large high definition TV screens and advanced display options it is natural to aim for this media. I use Fotomagico to develop slideshows and aim for quality high definition and smooth transitions (pan, zoom, fade). As long as I use the Fotomagico for screening transitions are smooth but once I take the show thru the conversion process (part of Fotomagico) to make .mov files for QuickTime or that matter for iDVD, pan/zooms may or may not come out jerky on the screen be that on the computer screen or the TV. However this never happens when using "Front Row". Is it possible that Quicktime and iDVD (08) do not make proper use of hardware resources available? Is there any software that would not cost me an arm and a leg that would overcome this problem? My system is a Mac Pro Q-Core 2.8 GHz and 6 GB of RAM and I have 200 GB HDrive available. One of the offending pictures has 344 KB with an aspect ratio of 3.6 taking 12 seconds for the pan (screening the picture from let to right in slow motion) and increasing the screening of one image to 20 second may reduce the jerky motion slightly. Fotomagico staff is aware of that problem that will not occur as long as the show is screened using Fotomagico - of course the whole exercise is to bring a show to anyone using DVD players and TV screens. I am highly suspicious of QuickTime and iDVD since shows play ok using "Front Row". Any suggestions or questions?

What am I missing? How come DVD recorders can record and play back good to very good resolution and motion in HD coming from TV broadcasts or for that matter coming from professionally made DVDs?
Maybe I left something unexplained in my post: Slideshows developed with Fotomagico and transferred to .MOV format and then recorded on DVD (using iDVD) in 1920*1080 are coming out quite good on my large screen TV (LG DLP 52" 1280*720p) and the same is true playing the .MOV file on the Mac or a PC. I do not use a projector for play back.
It is only when it comes to PAN/ZOOM motions that the display can become jerky. During the translation from Fotomagico to .MOV format I am using the best resolution and compression available to me. I am aware that during the translation (authoring?) massive amounts of data have to be processed to generate the illusion of a slowly moving picture passing across the TV (monitor) screen especially so considering the wide screen (16:9) format.
I am new to making movies for DVDs and I like to learn and why not from the best; any help with my problem is much welcomed and I apologise if I don't use the proper terms or if I bark up the wrong tree.

  • Burn avi to dvd using idvd

i dont have idvd, i dont even have a mac so this may be a really stupid question, but is it possible to convert an avi file and then burn it to dvd using idvd?
for example if a had a film in avi could i put it on a dvd to watch on a dvd player?

It is possible to put an .avi video on DVD, but it has to be converted into DVD format (which is mpeg-2). Another wrinkle is that .avi is a so-called "container" format and it is more or less difficult to convert .avi files depending on the format (codec) inside the container.
iDVD is fairly limited in the types of video formats it can convert (the latest version is the most flexible). If you have a very specific video you're wanting to convert, and thinking about buying a Mac, you could take it to an Apple store and see if iDVD recognizes the format. Alternatively, try visiting a Mac user group and see if they can be of assistance.

  • IDVD or iDVDHD to make and burn new movies???

I am a new owner of a MacBook Pro and am trying to use my built in iSight to make a movie and burn it to a DVD for viewing on a DVD player'd tv. I can record the video on imovieHD however cannot burn a viewable copy. When I try to make a movie on imovie it wont let me use my iSight. Also, I cannot export my movie from imovHD to imovie - it says Quicktime couldn't parse it???
    Can anyone offer advice? Thanks!

a DVD for viewing on a DVD player'd tv. I can record
the video on imovieHD however cannot burn a viewable
copy. When I try to make a movie on imovie it wont
    let me use my iSight.
We don't all have a MacBook Pro, although I am sure most would like one.
Have you posted this question on the MacBook Pro discussion?
Also, I cannot export my movie
from imovHD to imovie - it says Quicktime couldn't

I am not sure what you mean. iMovieHD to iMovie??? Do you mean iMovieHD to iDVD? If you have made a movie with iMovieHD, you can open iDVD create a simple theme and drag your iMovieHD project to iDVD, check to make sure it will play, then burn your DVD in iDVD.
    That should work.

  • No sound when playing Audio-Cd's and burned movies

I recently bought a MSI DR-8A and it is working just fine, except when I want to play a burned DVD-movie or an Audio CD I don't have any sound
When I insert a original DVD, no problem whatsoever. What can this be??????

    Hi Cave,
LOL. No, when i asked about the power supply, i was asking about the brand, the power rating (250W, 400W...) and especially the different amps ratings on the different rails
    ex: 3.3V: 20A, 5V 18A, 12V 25A.
all those data should be on the power supply label (inside the case, though).
Power deficeincies can lead to really strange problems (but i dont think it is the cause here).
As for your problem, i'm kinda stumped. I asked about all i can think about and i still cant see a solution (more like i cant locate the problem)
    summary:
    DVD:
     - disc is correct as it reads in another player.
     - sound is correct, as pressed DVDs play correctly
     - I'm not familiar with what you mean by Audio TS format.
    CDs:
     - play in the CDRW burner (so, good media)
     - digital audio enabled on DVDRW drive
     - correct sound properties (no mute or low volume)
     - tried different softwares? (winamp, WMP6/7/8/9, DVD player...)
    Does anyone see a problem/solution?

  • Good Software to Make a Font?

I did a search here but the most recent thing that comes up is from 2003.
Does anyone know of any good software that I can make fonts with? This is my first attempt and I want something free or inexpensive just to see how I like it.
    Thanks!

You asked for something 'good' and also 'inexpensive'. In general, you
    can't have both.
The two suggestions you've received so far include one good and
expensive solution (Fontlab) and one poor and inexpensive (Corel Draw).
Corel Draw's font creation process is absurd! It does one character at
a time and has just about zero ways to select or create any other than
a couple of default font attributes.
An exception to the rule is FontForge, which is both good and free. It
also has a steep learning curve, and requires a cygwin environment.
Somewhere in between, you can find:
Other programs from Pyrus/Fontlab, with varying costs and degrees of
capability, including TypeTool and Scanfont. Scanfont does a
reasonable job of vectorizing images of full character sets, but
should really be used in conjunction with FontLab. They also own and
sell Fontographer, an expensive old warhorse of a program that hasn't
been updated in many many years. The Mac version is a bit newer.
FontCreator (High-Logic Systems). Extremely flexible when vectorizing
images of individual glyphs. It has poor defaults (such as assigning
the copyright to High-Logic Systems and creating many hundreds of
empty glyphs) that have to be overcome. Again, post-processing with a
program like FontLab is recommended, but not necessary.
    CR8 Software Solutions:
Has a free font creator, TypeLight, that has limited drawing tools,
can't import scanned images directly, and other limitations. He also
offers a paid version with significantly more capability, and a
separate program CR8Trace, for vectorizing scanned images. All in all,
not great, but you get what you pay for.
