GPS not working on N97

Hey guys, i have had my N97 for about 2 weeks now and on sunday the gps stopped working. the GPS was working on nokia maps 2.0 and then was using 3.0 for a day or 2 and it stopped recieving a gps signal, i have tried updating to the newest maps and it still doesn't work.
in satellite staus i get 2-7 empty black bars evenwhen i am out in the open with clear skies!! the gps used to work when i was in the most enclosed space indoors.
Anyone have any idea of what the problem could be!! its driving me nuts that a €600 phone's gps just gives up a week after getting it!!

ok, so i got my n97 back a few days ago, turned out the place wasn't actually a nokia data centre they just hadn't changed the sign outside yet, but they still fix nokia's. gave it to them and got it back and still no working gps!
now im stuck with a €500 n97 that has no gps on it, which was one of the big selling points for me. going to wait for v2.0 firmware before i go any further with it.
So they didn't have the new parts. It seems that some places have them already and some don't. Fw20 will improve the gps a little bit but probably not so much (? People who have tested it say so) but the big fix are the new parts.

  • IPhone 6 location services/gps not working

Anyone else have an issue with iPhone 6 location services/gps not working? I have had it happen to me twice where it stopped working for good 7 or 8 hours and then all of sudden it starts working again. For example, directions don't work, every time I open Apple Maps it will say "Cannot determine location", then when I press the location icon on the bottom left, it will try to search again and have an approximate location but not exact, where as the iPad that I have right next to it is able to pin point the exact location. Sometimes the location circle is pulsing blue sometimes its gray. If I am driving and have tracking on it won't track, and so on.  I have tried to setup the phone as new without restoring the backup, when it stopped working with no luck, it still didn't work. I went and restore it back from backup and few hours later it started to work again. This has happened twice now since I got the phone last Friday.

Check your "Privacy" settings on your iPhone see what apps are using your location.

  • N97 GPS not working after 2.0 upgrade

    Hello
I have a N97  (RM-505) which is currently running 20.2.019. Previously it was running 11.x (don't remember exactly). The problem is that after the upgrade, GPS stopped working: it will never get any signal. I have tried in various places, ranging from the roof of my house to the top of a mountain, with and without cell signal and with and without AGPS (which obviously makes sense only when I have signal). I'm using Applications->Location->GPS Data->Position, which always shows "No connection" and the well-known message "GPS works poorly indoors and in enclosed areas".
Of course all of this was working fine before the upgrade (with the obvious limitations of the GPS signal) and I have checked with a standalone Garmin GPS just in case (it could get signal where the N97 couldn't).
I have tried a hard reset (*#7370#), but the result is the same.
    Anyone experienced the same problem?
    Thanks

Same happens with 5800's firmware update... Nokia doesn't care to make a beta phase before release any update, they like to test with us.

  • F3507g GPS not working after sleep/resume Windows 7

Under Windows 7 on ThinkPads with the F3507g Mobile Broadband Connection, there have been two long-standing problems:
    (a) after sleep/resume, the F3507g (Wireless WAN) disappears from the Fn+F5 menu;
    (b) after sleep/resume, ThinkVantage GPS does not work (forever displays Fix Type: N/A).
By searching these forums, you can find past threads about these problems, none with a reproducible resolution.
I am pleased to say that the latest driver update for the F3507g (v6.1.10.5  7UW708WW) appears to ameliorate problem (a) in that the F3507g Wireless WAN eventually re-appears in the Fn+F5 menu if you give it a few tens of seconds after a resume.  This update is available from:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73681
However, the non-working GPS after sleep/resume is still not solved.  Even though the "Wireless WAN" card is present and shown powered-on in the Fn+F5 menu, ThinkVantage GPS (2.60) is stuck on Fix Type: N/A, and the Windows 7 Weather gadget does not automatically discover the location.  Both applications work fine after a full Windows restart, but not after a sleep/resume.
I have, however, discovered a work-around which restores GPS operation without a full restart:
    Open Device Manager;
    Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers";
    Right-click "F3507g Mobile Broadband Device" and select "Disable";
    Wait for the system to settle down again;
    Right-click "F3507g Mobile Broadband Device" and select "Enable";
Wait for the system to settle down again.
Now you can press Start in ThinkVantage GPS, and Fix Type will quickly change from "N/A" to "No Fix", and then onward to satellite discovery.  And after a few false starts, the Windows 7 Weather gadget will discover the location.
The fact that this work-around restores GPS operation indicates that the underlying fault is a driver software issue.
The above symtoms and work-around have been verified on both a ThinkPad X301 and a ThinkPad T400s.  Neither have ThinkVantage Access Connections installed.  The X301, when previously running under Vista with the previous generation of drivers, did not display these symptoms: the symptoms appeared with the upgrade to Windows 7.

Actually mine works fine after applying all the updates available on T400 w/ Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I can sleep/shutdown as much as I want and the GPS works.
By the way, you have to goto your bios to reset your settings to default by pressing F9. Maybe you should try this and see if that solves your problem.
The only GPS related issue that is not fixed is the issue of dual booting into linux. I dual boot into linux, and when that happens the GPS problem re-occurs once I log back into windows. The only way for me to fix the problem again at that point, is if I go back into the bios and hit F9 again, then re-enter windows.
If I were to stay in a windows environment indefiniately, there is no problem. The problem is once I enter Linux, the problem in windows will occur again (maybe the powerstate settings by the linux kernal messes up the settings on the card).

  • GPS Not working for E72

My GPS is not working for E72. I can get my position but I think that is because of A-GPS enabled.
I talked to customer care and they are saying "you must be in open space, no tall buildings etc" which is not practical.
I tried for hours, it always says "waiting for GPS" but never gets any thing.
It used to work earlier but then there was p problem [ no breathing light ] and I had to take it to serivce center, after that it never worked.

  • IPad 3 - Wifi + 4G GPS not working

    Folks,
I got a the new iPad with 4G, however no SIM is inserted.  The issue I have is that the GPS is not working.  My current location comes up as Taiwan on google maps.  I tried a few of the free gps apps and they do return the right lat/long.  Is there something I need to do to activate the GPS??
    Thanks!

    Problem solved, reboot fixed it.

  • GPS not working all the time, and 3G radio not turning on

    Alright,
Here's the situation in a nutshell.  I have done extensive trial and errors trying to troubleshoot my own phone.  And by the way, I’m on my 4th Incredible.  I have come to the conclusion it’s not my phone, at least for now.  When I’m in a Verizon area (towers), my GPS works the best.  Locks on to signal within seconds.  Ok, where i live we have the Alltel towers yet which are being divested to ATT.  So, when i bring up the GPS/Nav/Latitude etc, etc. the GPS never locks on and just sits there searching.  Now, if i leave a Verizon coverage with my NAV on it works fine all the way home.  Next, i turn off my NAV and wait a few seconds or minutes and then turn it back on, i get nothing.  There is something wrong with the towers or something where i live.  Does the Incredible download the GPS assistance from the towers to better locate the satellites?  Also, most of the time if i do a reboot, i have to place my phone into Airplane mode, wait, then turn it off to get my radio to turn on.  I was in a Verizon area this past weekend and restarted my phone like 4-5 times and the 3g Radio would turn on no problem.  I think I’m getting close to the problem at hand.  I just need some assistance from a techy at Verizon.  I hope I explained this thoroughly.  As everyone knows this screws up all my location apps to show the wrong location.
    Thanks

Looky what i found.  I found this on another forum that a guy figured out.  Verizon, please get a patch for this or a permanent fix.  We shouldn't have to do this to make the GPS work.  My phone doesn't say i'm roaming, but i do live in an Extended Network.
    Here it is:
One way to get a GPS lock when Roaming.
Like some others in this thread, I can track myself with the GPS on the satellite map from home (in Verizon service area) to our cabin in NE Pennsylvania (Extended Network in the white area not covered on the Verizon map). The tracking is accurate. It even follows me down the path to the water. But, when I turn off the map so save battery, I can't obtain a GPS lock when I turn mapping back on. GPS Test sees the satellites, but won't lock. By trial and error, I discovered that if I put the phone in Airplane mode and turn it off, (wait a while), and turn it on while still in Airplane mode (Signal Strength 0dBm - Not Roaming - because it doesn't know that it's in Extended Network with radio off), I can get a GPS lock just as quick as I can at home (in Verizon territory - not roaming) - usually less than minute using GPS Test. Once I have the lock, I can turn Airplane mode off and the map and tracking work perfectly (I have 3G and 1X, to download maps, depending on location), and continue to work until I close the map, at which point I have to do the Shutdown in Airplane mode work around.
Answers in this and other forums as well as Verizon and HTC support are all over the map (no pun intended). Verizon says I need a cell signal to lock while HTC says not necessary at all, and others have various solutions. Clearly, the phone is able to obtain a GPS lock without any cell signal since it locks in Airplane mode. It seems to be some sort of software problem in that IF it thinks the phone is Roaming it must be waiting for some sort of A-GPS signal, and won't lock. Also, it won't work if I simply put in Airplane mode without re-booting because it's still in Roaming status. But when it's booted in Airplane mode and it doesn't know it's in a Roaming area, it relies on the internal GPS to get a lock. (For some reason, I have to leave it off for a while for this to work). So the hardware seems to be working fine.
I got this phone to eliminate the need for a separate GPS, and I have figured out how to use it when out of Verizon's area. But it's ridiculous to have to go through the shutdown in Airplane mode, wait a while, and reboot just to get a GPS lock. If Apple can do it, why can't Verizon? It seems like this would be pretty easy to fix by writing a software patch that uses the standalone GPS if a A-GPS signal is not available. Does anyone know if Google is looking into this? Does anyone have any other ideas on how to get the GPS to work without rebooting while Roaming?

  • VZ Navigator and GPS Not working in East Texas

My phone and my wifes phone (both TB) are experiencing the gps outage in East Texas.
We live in Henderson, TX which geographically lies between Tyler and Carthage.
I have called Verizon repeatedly with little to no help so far. I have been told by customer support many times that Verizon does not support 3rd party gps apps like Google Maps or My Tracks; however, I'm not able to get VZ Navigator to work either.
After calling customer support and being reminded that they do not provide support for Google maps, the rep asked if I was able to use VZ Navigator. I quickly installed VZ Navigator while trying to communicate the real issues at work in our area of
Texas. Once VZ Navigator was installed, (yes, I agreed to the $10 per month) I opened the app to discover all the same issues. VZ Navigator doesn't get a gps fix. It just says, "Updating location..." and when you try to navigate to any destination from your current location, it says "Getting GPS..." until it returns with an error message. The error message reads "VZ Navigation is having trouble finding your current position. Please try again. (1001)
Once the 2nd level tech verified that I actually installed VZ Navigator and that was not able to make it work, she notated all I had to say about the gps issues and escalated the open ticket to a higher level engineer. She said I should get a call
    tomorrow (05-16-2011).
She said the key to getting the issue escalated was VZ Navigator. It's not free. It's a Verizon product. She also stated that I can
stop the service once the issue is resolved. I encourage everyone living in East Texas with this issue to do the same. It's worth a shot!
I will keep everyone informed of my progress (or lack of) as time passes.
If anyone has a solution to the GPS outage in East Texas please post a reply.

I have always thought this was a GPS issue..  but i only use the free apps..    i complained enough to get 2 months credit for VZ Navigator..   guess what..   it uses the same gps chip in the phone and it doesn't work either.  supprise supprise supprise.
How many weeks does it take?
As for Google updating a database..    in airplane mode, GPS still works...   or used to.. ...   i have done it many times.
Why does Google have to update something that works in airplane mode when all the transmitters in the phone are turned off?  makes no sense at all..
fix your service or credit me something for the services you are not providing till you get them fixed!!!
It's been weeks and weeks and weeks guys..   COME ON!!!!

  • T440p n5321 GPS not working

    Hello,
I just upgraded my T440p with an Ericsson N5321gw  mobile broadband card. Unfortunaltely the build in GPS module doesn't deliver any data. The driver is correctly installed (visible in the Device Manager) and the firmware is updated.
When I run Microsofts sensor diagnostic toolkit, it sais the device is Initializing, so first thing I guessed was, it doesn't get GPS fix. But now, since I ran the tool outside under clear sky it should have gotten fix by now.
I use Windows 8.1 and the mobile broadband card is activated. I'm running out of ideas now, can anybody give me a clue how to get the GPS device to work?
    Thanks,
    tmoehle

    FOLLOW UP;
when ultranav driver is installed then i do not seem to have issues with the trackpoint movements, until I start clicking buttons. For example this is a standard event. I am in window , like in  a multipage word document, and i want to scroll down using the slider on the left frame of the window. If I do it by keeping the button pressed and moving the trackpoint - all works fine; but if I want to do it by simply multiple clicks at the bottom part of that slider part of windoe frame (left frame) then after 3 clicks (always ) the track point and buttns freeze forever, or sometimg can be unfreezed by external mouse movements, or by quikcly moving my hand over the touchpad...
As if quick succession of button clicks created the problem
When no ultranav driver is installed (and touch pad disabled in BIOS) then occasionally the button do not work and in general harder clicks are needed, and occasionally succesion of clicks also freezes the track point and buttons...some time can be "woken up" by external mouse movements and sometimes not.
thanks for any help or pointing to a place on www where I can find solution..
by the way anybody heard of physically putting the old trakcpoint system (like e.g. in T60) to t440. ???

  • N8 integrated GPS not working ANNA

    Hi,
Integrated GPS is not working on my New N8 with anna. I tried Hard rest and even Google maps. OVI works with A-gps but position is highly inaccurate. I can see a notification which says GPS available but no satellites are locked. Confirmed this with Google maps. Is this a hardware issue?

Sounds like a dud antenna but...
If it was working before Anna then check your Positioning Settings under Settings/Application Settings/Positioning especially check that the Positioning server is set to supl.nokia.com
Have you tried the Battery Out Reset  (Power off the hold power button for about 8 seconds until you feel three vibrations)
Try re-installing Anna using Ovi Suite or Nokia Software Updater.
Note: if your in an area with no Internet connection it may take 20 minutes or more to get an initial fix and it's best to be stationary while its doing it.
    Good Luck.

and when i use pc suite to downlad maps like before it don't work it send me to lumia here maps that it dont on my n95 8gb  because nokia abandoned the best symbian and used the bad lumia,  so they delete symbian so users change to lumia, and i  say no
help me get maps back and preload maps without internet
i formated my phone manytimes and i used nokia software update and still no solution for  me
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Now, you have old cities/qf on your phone because you started with Maps 2.0 which used incompatible map data. Please, on your phone delete the folder cities and the file qf. These are in the at the start (root directory) of your storage. Then on your phone, open Maps and browse a bit around. That re-creates cities/qf. Now try the Nokia Suite again. Does it show the countries? Good. Now it should work. If not, please, report.

I had the previous PC Suite.
Now that webpage make sense. The button in the PC Suite links to the Nokia Map Loader. Anyway, nowadays one should use the Map Loader of the Nokia Suite because it supports very large maps.

  • GPS not working in Lumia 535

I have been using Lumia 520 since its release and switched over to Lumia 630 Dual when it was released in India and  for the same SIMs the GPS was working excellent. Recently when Lumia 535 was released I exchanged Lumia 630 for 535.While the mobile touch issues were addressed very well by the two updates -December 2014 and March 2015-I am a bit disappointed to find the GPS is not working properly as it did in 520 and 630 .When Here Drive + is opened, the green arrow appear and my location is shown but the arrow never travel in time over the map as I move in my car or walking and just freeze. If I go out of the app and return back, it updates the location but again the green arrow doe not move on the map along with my motion in car or any other vehicle.I wish to know if future updates will solve this problem or my mobile has any hardwear proplem. As I am very familiar with Lumia series since April 2013, I am sure that I am following the steps and settings perfectly. Please help me.I am  in India and I am using Airtel SIMs.

Yes I have done all that you have mentioned. Also I have checked with single sim to make sure that it is not due to two sims.As Lumia 520 and 630 were perfectly  locating the position in the same place where I am now living with same sims , I do not find the reason to be anything external. Also I must be a bit descriptive about the problem:
1.Once Here Maps + or Here Drive + is opened, after locating the position , the distance will display a random digit even though I have not moved at all.For example, after the app is opened Here Drive + will show distance anything random llike 500m or 1Km even if I am not moving.Only after closing and opening the app few times the value gets zeroed. This happens even when sims were tested individually as well in diffeent places in the heart of the city where mobile towers are available. Also, the distance calculated is most of the time wrong and on the higher side. But  in Lumia 520 and 630 I have seen the distance displayed is always 0m to begin with and the green arrow travel with time over the map  .But in 535 the speed used to be most of the time blank with display showing - Km/h
I must bring to your attention that when I bought Lumia 520 in April 2013 , its GPS performance used to get affected from one up date to another and subsequent update used to correct it .In fact Lumia 630 that I bought in Sept 2014 had GPS problem but an update that follwed made GPS very perfect. As I am a traveller all over South India, I was always using the GPS and it used to work exceedingly well without the network  most of the time with good tower signal.
The update in March 2015 updated my maps as well. Even Here Drive + was also updated this year and the version now is 4.2.5905.1 and map is 8.30.57.115.
As I am using all the smart features of Lumia since 520, I am familiar with the operation as well performance of Lumia series .Many of my friends switched over from Android to Lumia ( 525, 630 etc) for the accuarcy of GPS in windows phone without using the internet which is a must in Android.
I feel that 535 is finding difficult to locate the postion co ordinates and so not working accurately. Even in a car the GPS fail to track the motion in time inside the city most of the time. Where as 630 GPS worked very well even inside AC compartment without any problem without mobile data and with just tower signal.
All the other applications are working very well.
    Please help.

  • GPS not working after froyo 2.2 upgrade

I upgraded to froyo 2.2 yesterday and since then my GPS won't work.  The only way I can get it to work is to turn GPS on, power off/on my phone, then the GPS will work when the phone is first powered back on.  If I turn off the GPS off and then try it again later, it won't work again.  I don't normally leave GPS turned on because it drains the battery too fast, but now I have to restart my phone any time I want to use GPS?!?!?

OK. Not just me then.  I have 3 Fascinates since last Sept.  First couple months, none of the 3 GPS would work.
Then after first verizon patch/upgrade, all 3 worked better. Then after 2nd and finally 3rd EA28, GPS worked
GREAT on all 3 phones. Been working great since the EA28 upgrade.
Yesterday, 2 of the 3 got their Froyo 2.2 upgrade.
Now, the GPS on both of them quit working again.  They either never get a signal lock or take over 20 minutes to get one
and IF they do, its a once a day event.
The one that didnt yet receive its 2.2 update, its GPS is still working fine. ( though I'm sure it will quit post update as well).
Since all 3 worked great last 4 or 5 months, I can only assume the gps radios in all 3 are fine and this is some kind
of Android bug.  ( i've seen similiar posts in other forums for other phones after gettting various android updates. )
So, $64,000 question for Verizon, Samsung or whomever: How do I fix this now and keep it fixed ??
( I've cleared all cache data I can find, turned off/on, removed battery turned off/on ...Nothing helps on either phone.)
I have not yet tried a 'factory reset' , though I could on  1 of the 2 phones.
    Thanks.

  • GPS not working on Nokia C7 since Belle Update

GPS IS NOT WORKING SINCE NOKIA C7 IS UPDATED FROM ANNA  TO BELLE.
ON ANNA IT WAS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE..
    PLEASE GUIDE ME THE SOLUTION.

    Hi matemale,
If you are using just Internal GPS, could be that the location information got wiped when you did the update. In this case give the device some time to get the location, this can take relatively long time (the first time), so little patience is needed.
If you are using AGPS and Network based navigation, then do the following actions and in between them test if the device works.
Make sure the internet is on in Maps > Options (3 lines) > Settings > General > Connection > Online. Also check that the network destination is correct.
Make a back up with Nokia Suite. Type in *#7780# = soft reset, no data lost.
You can also reinstall the phone software. The process is the same as when updating with Nokia Suite, but at the end select "Reinstall".
If it's still the same, type in *#7370# = hard reset, phone memory will be wiped. Restore back up.
Hope you get the navigation working again!
