Gradient Tool Color Select problem

Hi All,
I'm stuck! I finally got up and running with the gradient
tool and now I'm having trouble. Here is what I'm wanting to do and
doing:
I start a new image and set the bg to the color I want
(#330033 which is plum)
I select the gradient tool, which is to the left of the
eyedropper on the Colors pane.
Then the paint bucket modification icon defaults to 'black
and white' and no matter where I click the thing I can't get the
color selector to come up. Any idea how I can solve this dilemma
and get back to the color selector?
Thanks!
And if you are DizzDizzy..no need to reply...lol!

I done figured it out! I had to click on the left slider icon
next to the little color wheel (god forbid we were allowed to click
on that!) to bring up the color selector. Yee-haw.
I'm off and running again!

  • Problem using Radial Gradient tool in Creative Suite CS4.

I have pasted on a separate layer a circular photo of a couple's head and shoulders onto a woodland photo, and want to make the sides of it gradiently transparent using the Radial Gradient tool. The problem I have is that it makes all of the photo gradiently transparent.
If I use the Linear Gradient tool it works fine, but only on one part and I can't add it to other parts of the photo.
Am I using the right tool for the job, and if I am, where am I going wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

here I send 2 versions, one is the hand done one as I mentioned, before, re mask then use black brush, the second is the circle feather edge again as mentioned but I left in the layers to give you an idea too
the first allows you more freedom to kill background as I notice the top is flat, I assume that's the edge if the original photo

For the sake of clarity and to save people time, Todd is asking about the behaviour of the Patch tool when using it to repair the area next to the young lad's head.  Todd gets a blurred dark tone pretty much regardless of the options he uses.
IMO that's what I would expect to happen because of the close proximity of the other image elements i.e. the lad's neck and the strong lines of his shirt.  I would not choose to use the Patch tool in this situation.  Content Aware Fill makes a better stab at it.

  • Color selection tool has stopped working [was: need help with indesign cs6]

I am working in InDesign cs6 and my color selection tool stopped working.

Do I reply here? I have been creating a newspaper in InDesign cs6 and the color selection box won't work any longer.  It used to work just fine, but now it won't let me access it.
Someone in tech support last night before they went away, was directing me to: Go to Folder from my desktop, and then to Preferences, then to ~/Library/, then to InDesign version 8.0 and en US.  Then we lost contact and I didn't know what to do next, so I still have the problem.

  • Problems with gradient tool bar not remaining on object applied in illustrator cc

    Hello,
when applying a gradient to a rectangle i will get the gradient tool, click on the left half of the object i want it applied to and while holding down drag a line to thew right hand side of the object. the problem the arises when i release the mouse as the gradient bar that has been shown while holding down then disappears. this applies the gradient but the issue is that all gradient editing has to be done on the gradient window as a posed to live on the object slowing the work flow.
I am not sure what I'm doing wrong but help would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Joseph

Just for the sake of learning how to use the tool i start with drawing a rectangle then click and drag the gradient tool across the box. i see the gradient line appear but when i release the mouse the gradient line disappears
i end up witha box with a gradient but all my editing has to be done in the gradient box as shown in this screen shot:

  • Problem with Gradient Tool

I contacted Adobe because I began having difficulty using
the Gradient Tool in Photoshop CC 2014 which had previously worked properly.  As I explained to technical support when I
tried to generate a gradient a progress bar would appear, and at first would
begin to fill rather quickly, but at 75% of completion it would slow to a
    crawl.  Apparently, eventually it would
complete, as a gradient did appear in my image, but the completion time was probably
    15 or 20 minutes.
Adobe technical support first had me restart Photoshop and
not load my plug-ins which they thought were perhaps conflicting with the
    gradient filter.  I followed this
direction but, after doing so, the problem persisted.
Then they asked that I restart Photoshop and delete my Preferences.  I was hesitant lose my preferences and asked
if I could copy and rename the file containing my preferences before deleting
it.  They directed me to its location,
but I couldn’t find the file where it should have been located.  So I elected not to follow their suggestion
of deleting my preferences to see if this would resolve the issue with the
    Gradient tool.

Which operating system are you using?
On windows you need to enable Show hidden files and folders in the Tools>Folder Options to see the photoshop cc 2014 preferences folder
On mac os press the Option key in the Finder Go menu and click on Library to see the user Library

  • Is the gradient color selection workflow fixed in CS6?

    http://www.bittbox.com/illustrator/illustrator-quick-tip-faster-gradient-color-adjustments
Double clicking the color in the toolbox panel to bring up the color picker, resets the angle of the gradient. The only way to use the color picker for a gradient color is to preselect it and place it in the color swatch. This is a blatantly incorrect implementation of a common workflow. Has this been fixed in CS6?

    Okay.....
The color panel is essentially useless. Adjusting color based on RGB values is incredibly difficult/retarded.
Possibly, of course there's a color ramp at the bottom of the Panel as well.
The number of colors available for a particular hue are very limited. There is no reasonable way to change the saturation of a color.
Really? Again show me a single color you can not achieve via the color panel which the color picker can.
As for saturation... I guess setting the panel to HSB (Hue/Saturation/Brightness) wouldn't qualify?
Because of it, there is essentially no way to select from a wide range of colors and be able to live preview the color for a gradient, a standard way of doing things in Photoshop and every other graphics software.
Hmmm... again... the color ramp means nothing? You can't move sliders? You've not tried Live Color/Recolor Artwork at all???
Why not just outright state that you aren't comfortable with Illustrator and want it to conform to things you are comfortable with rather than learning to use Illustrator.
The entire "every other graphics software" section is completely incorrect. Painter doesn't use the color picker the same way any Adobe app does. In fact, once you venture away from Adobe you find many graphics apps approach color selection in many different ways. And even within Adobe software.. explain Fireworks color selection....  Indesign color selection... After Effects color selection.... Even merely looking at Adobe products alone your statement falls apart. You just want it to "be like Photoshop."
Look, I totally "get" that some people prefer the way Photoshop works. And I understand that they may want everything to operate exactly like Photoshop does if for no other reason so they can seamlessly move from app to app with as little a learning curve as possible. The reality is, Illustrator is NOT Photoshop. You can complain until you are blue in the face, that's not going to change the app. Adapt or fail.

  • Illustrator crashes when changing color on gradient tool.

In any file, even a brand new, empty artboard, when I double click on the color box on the gradient tool bar ON THE OBJECT (not on the Gradient tool box, I've included an image below) to change the color, Illustrator crashes every single time without fail.

The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Gradients foreground color to transparent

CS4, using gradient tool on toolbar
Obviously, I'm not understanding something, or I'm doing something wrong. What is it?
    Here's what I did:
Create one layer and fill it with black.
Create a second layer above black layer and select it. Open gradient tool.
The gradient tool has the 4 blocks, two at each end. I use the lower left block to set the color to blue, and I leave the block above it to 100% opacity.
I use the lower right hand block and set the color to white. I set the opacity to 0 in the upper right hand block.
I draw the gradient on the new layer. I'm execting to see a blue gradient that fades to black, but rather it fade to white.
    Why is this?
More importantly, what do I have to do to get the gradient to fade from blue to 100% transparency to reveal the color of the lower layer (black in this case).
    TIA.

I now have the pixel transparent gradient working. Utlimately, it was user error, though
I think the design leaves a bit to be desired.
The problem was, I had not notice the checkbox for "Transparency" on the gradient's option panel. It was not checked. As soon as I checked it, I was able to drop transparent gradients on the transparent layer and they worked as expected. Personally, I would think if one designed a gradient with 0% opacity at one end, that should be enough to have a foreground color to transparent gradient. Don't know why there's the second step.
    But, all is good.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Eye Dropper Tool (Color Picker Tool) not working correctly - Premiere CC - Windows 8 - Multiple Displays

I'm running Windows 8, Premiere CC 2014 with two monitors. The eye dropper tool (color picker tool) isn't working correctly. It is selecting colors that are not the colors being hovered over. I've reasearched and see solutions to the problem when occurring with Mac, but do not see a solution for Windows. When I disconnect the second monitor, the eye dropper tool works correctly (as described by Mac users). I deleted any profiles for the montors that weren't the same, and still having the issue. I've also tried putting the source monitor on the second monitor, and tried sampling color from there... same result.

    Hello All,
Problem solved...I reset all tools in the Tool Preset window. Seems to be working.
    Hope this helps someone...
    Cheers!

  • Gradient Tool Question

Is there a way to specify the begin and end exposure adjustment on the gradient tool?
What I really want to do is apply an even exposure adjustment to the bottom section of an image. There's a hard line where I want the adjustment to begin, so I don't really need a gradient. I know I can do this with the adjustment, but that requires passing the brush over a large section of the image and, of course, being very careful in lining the edge of the brush up with the edge of what I want to lighten. I'd like to be able to put a line across the image and say "lighten everything below this line" by x amount.
    Any way to do that?
    Thanks.

    You wrote:
"What I really want to do is apply an even exposure adjustment to the bottom section of an image. There's a hard line where I want the adjustment to begin,..."
You apply the graduated filter from the botto up if you want to change the bottom part of the image and you apply it from the top down if you want to change the top part of the image.
"Bottom" and "Top" (where you start the grad filter) means the bottom / top margin of the image and then you drag up or down.
If you don't see the white / light grey lines of the grad filter press letter "H" on the keyboard. You can adjust the transition zone by dragging the lines  closer together or farther apart. You can rotate the grad filter: hover with the mouse over the center line and a curved arrows icon appears. Then drag to rotate.
Apart from that you can adjust the Exposure, Brightness, Contrast, etc. with the sliders. You can also apply a coloring by clicking on the small icon besides the word <Color>. You can choose from the preset colors that are like warming / cooling fiolters in traditional (film-based) photography ar you can select a color from the image by dragging the eye-dropper into the image.

  • How can i use gradient tool in Illustrator

    Hello,
I am trying to use gradient tool in illustrator.
My image is active but how can i start using gradient tool.
I clicked the tool and tried to drag with my mouse but, i can not activate the tool itself.
Can any one help me, I am using CS4 extended with Mac.
    Thank you very much.
    Steve

First in order to use the gradient tool you must have a gradient fill applied to an object not an raster image it can be a vector illustration..
Select the object or objects or groups of objects
Now click on the gradient bar in the Gradient Panel while the object(s) are still selected that will fill the object with the default gradient.
You can also use a gradient swatch in the Swatches panel, you can make a gradient swatch as well.
Now your object(s) is filled with the default gradient fill.
Now in the tool panel select the gradient tool this will allow you to control the way the gradient is oriented and applied to the object.
Now you can change the colors and add colors to you gradient by clicking on the color markers below the gradient bar which will bring up the color or swatches panels.
Now finally and this is the most important factor to consider you have to purchase a book and or tutorials and the book that will probably do you the most good at this stage is Mordy Golding's Real World Illustrator CS 4 this you shoud do before you go any further. Honest.

  • CS3 Gradient Tool is screwed up

Please forgive me if this has already been discussed.  I searched, but couldn't find it.
I just recently began using the gradient tool, after learning its usefullness with masks.  It worked fine for several weeks, but now I can't get it to work.  I think I might have accidentaly changed default settings.
I dragged the pointer from left to right across the middle of the picture, but instead of going black to transparent (or transparent to black, I never can remember which way it goes), the top went clear & the bottom went dark.   Note that foreground is white & background is black.   When I change to foreground red & background blue (for instance) & draw the line at same place, the top is red & bottom is blue.  If line is drawn top to bottom, left is red & right is blue.
    What am I doing wrong?
Actually, I 1st tried to use this on a mask.  When that didn’t work, I tried it on a “regular” layer.  This isn’t the 1st time I’ve had this problem.  It been consistently screwed up for several weeks now.
I tried “Reset Gradients”, but that didn’t fix anything.  I also made sure that “Dither” & “Transparency” are checked, as they are on my laptop, which is working OK.
Most of my Photoshop work is pretty basic stuff, so please provide "basic" answers w/o "buzz words" that might be over my head.
    Thanks

Note that foreground is white & background is black.   When I change to foreground red & background blue (for instance) & draw the line at same place, the top is red & bottom is blue.  If line is drawn top to bottom, left is red & right is blue.
Which gradient do you have selected anyway?
