Gradient Wipe Doesn't work in HD Sequence Why?

I apply the gradient wipe to DV footage in a DV sequence in Final Cut and all works well. I can wipe between clips or from an empty area of the timeline to the clip. However, when I apply the gradient wipe to HD footage in an HD sequence
(1920x1080i, uncompressed 10bit or 8 bit, Motion Video Processing Best, Normal, or Fastest, Render in 8 bit, 10bit or Precison YUV--makes no difference),
not all is well. I can wipe between clips, but I can't wipe from an empty area of the timeline to the clip. The wipe icon in the latter case is visible on the head of the clip in the timeline, but no wipe effect can be seen. It just appears as a straight cut. I've tried using a slug instead of an empty timeline, but as soon as I make the slug transparent the transition appears as a cut.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Apple Modem (for dialup) doesn't work in Lion. Why?

We have no acceptable alternatives for dialup where I live here. Even dialup is difficult. But the Apple Modem does not work in Lion!
Anyone know why Apple did that?
And what alternative is there for us (other than resinstalling Snow Leopard).
Does Apple not know that there are still PLENTY of places with poor or non-existent Internet services?
Does anyone know of an option?
Using a MacBookPro, but the problem appears to be Lion so the hardware would not seem to matter...

Mighty Mouse - scrolling to zoom view doesn't work in Photoshop CS, why?

I just got my new G5. Apple's new Mighty Mouse doesn't seem to work right with the main apps I use. You can't use the scroll wheel to zoom the view, in either Photoshop or Cinema4D (3d app). I tried turning off horizontal scrolling in hopes that it would fix the problem. Nope. No zoom. Can you remove the Might Mouse driver so it is just a two button/vertical scroll mouse?

Gradient tool doesn't work with gradients on strokes?!

Okay, so one of the new flagship features of Illustrator CS6 is gradients on strokes, but you can't use the Gradient Tool with them? I just get a crosshairs pointer with a "no" sign next to it. What's up with that?? I can see why this wouldn't work with shapeburst mode, but linear and even angular gradients (to set the center point) should be no problem.
In addition to this, here is another bug I discovered:
In earlier versions of Illustrator, you were allowed to use the Gradient Tool to adjust the direction of a shape's gradient even when the shape's stroke was in the foreground. Now that Illustrator can apply gradients to strokes, it is understandable that, if a shape has a transparent stroke, Illustrator will prevent you from using the Gradient Tool on the shape if the stroke is in the foreground.
But the opposite should also be true: if you have a shape with a gradient stroke and a transparent fill, Illustrator should prevent you from using the Gradient Tool if the fill is in the foreground. But it doesn't. Illustrator will happily respond to the new gradient direction, but the gradient of the stroke will not change, and the fill stays transparent.

Adobe tends to introduce half a feature, then abandon it and never develop it further.
Or charge for the fix in CS7!
Couldn't have said it better myself. I get so sick of half-baked "glorious new features" in this program that--as you two state--either never get fleshed out, or require hundreds of dollars spent to get something that feels finished years later--and then start the whole cycle all over again on something else.
I haven't even been able to order CS6 yet, because Adobe's "upgrade" policy is as convoluted as Illustrator itself. First mistake was buying into the Master Collection collection when it was first offered (something I've increasingly regretted since).
Like doubtless thousands of others, I did not upgrade to the much-ado-about-nothing half-baked CS5.5 middle version, because it offered next to nothing (and absolutely nothing in regards to Illustrator). So Master Collection CS5 owners are penalized for this a niggling $25 over and above what the same "upgrade" costs those who bought the CS5.5 non-version--but have to jump through the ridiculous, unnecessary hoop of first "upgrading" to the already defunct CS5.5, and then wait for permission from Adobe to "upgrade" from that to CS6.--AND you have to do all this before a couple-week's deadline.
So I'm sitting here with an utterly useless CS5.5 DVD, which I am dreading to install. I have absolutely no use at all for this version. But I have to install it (and you know how that can go) anyway, because Adobe says you can't install the CS6 upgrade version without having CS5.5 installed. This is an utterly stupid practice that NEEDS TO STOP. It is no small burden to run Adobe's bloated installers on a large bundle package like this. Having to do it twice for my $600 "upgrade" to CS6--just to get AI to run as a 64-bit application--just adds insult to injury.
All this stupid tedium just because Adobe couldn't bring itself to allow the regular upgrade purchase to apply to a mere one full-version back!
And, of course, the also-stupid disparity between Acrobat and the CS bundles continues. To stay current with with Acrobat, you have to "upgrade" to new versions which are released midway between the CS versions. So much for the "all inclusiveness" of the so-called Master Collection.
Each release has two or three half-baked "new" features which, in practice, simply do not justify the inflated upgrade pricing. Rather than being excited about new functionality, I grit my teeth each time this happens.
Meanwhile, Corel's no-nonsense upgrade to its CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 (also 64-bit) is $200, and is available to users of two full versions back--without a penalty for having skipped a version they didn't find worthwhile, and without a must-do-it-now time limit.
And of course Illustrator's text handling remains attrocious. It still can't do ordinary brain-dead simple live shape primitives. It's snaps are pathetic. It has no dimension tools, connector lines, callouts. In other words, the decades-old long list of missing ordinary basic functionality remains. And we pay hundreds of dollars for yet another re-do of its never-get-it-right window dressing.
What a mess! Adobe needs some serious competition.

Gradient Maps doesn't work properly when editing a photo from Lightroom

When I open a file in photoshop to edit and apply a gradient map to the image, it works fine. However, when I open an image from Lightroom (right click image, EDIT IN Photoshop) and apply the exact same adjustment layer, NOTHING HAPPENS. It's the strangest thing and for the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm doing different! As far as I can tell, the only difference is that the image from Lightroom is in 16 bit ... but when I change it to 8, still nothing happens.
My process: I apply a pastel gradeient on top of the image (preset: brown, tan, beige) and choose the "Pin Light" blending mode. Normally (as in opening an image outside of Lightroom), this gives my picture the desired effect. But when I open the image from Lightroom and apply the exact same gradient map, nothing happens. If I shift the color within the selector in the map window, I can eventually get the gradient map to reveal itself and the picture to show different colors, but ONLY if I move the color selection to the more saturated end and away from where I actually need it to be.
My setup: I'm working on an iMac, OS X > Lightroom 5 > Photoshop CS5. I'm clicking on DNG pictures within Lightroom and then selecting EDIT IN Photoshop > then working within photoshop.
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! Thank you.

Why not keep things simple and create a shortcut on the user's machine that uses this target command:

No, it's working perfectly on Win XP. I just find it too sad that it no longer works on Win 7. I view this as a regression.
When you run it the way you do it you actually do open a further Explorer process but it remains invisible to you because it runs in the background.
No, the user does get a new explorer windows that pops to the foreground. The
only trouble is that it opens in "My Documents".
Of course I could (try and...) teach them to right-click, copy the link, paste it in an explorer and so on, but they are going to hate me.

TwoWay binding doesn't work using StringFormat={}{#:#.####}, why and how to fix it?

After changing the stringFormat from 0:0.#### to #:#.#### twoWay binding has stop responding.
I fixed one problem and end up with another!

It is hard to say without having seen all of your code. The information in your last post says nothing but there seems to be nothing wrong with the StringFormat as the property gets set as expected using the sample code I posted. You can try it for yourself
if you don't believe.
Please upload a reproducable sample of your issue to OneDrive and post the link to it here if you want anyone to be able to be able to get a clue on what is going on in your application.

Well, StringFormat and UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged is not a really good combination all the time. You should probably remove the StringFormat and try to handle the formatting logic yourself by for example using a converter. Something like this:

EL in template text only works on Servlet 2.4 / JSP 2.0 and newer. So you need at least Tomcat 5.5. Tomcat 5.0 is Servlet 2.3 / JSP 1.2 and Tomcat 6.0 is Servlet 2.5 / JSP 2.1.
To fix this, use JSTL c:out tag. This problem is by the way not related to JSF.

Hyperlink doesn't work in Adobe Viewer, why?

Hi everyone! I'm creating an interactive newsletter in Indesign CS6 for the iPad and iPhone. I have a 3D model that I would like to demonstrate, but here comes the problem. I have a link to the IPM viewer (the 3D model is there), but when I use this URL it does not work. The adress starts with: ipm://.
When I press the link in Adobe viewer it shows: an error 101. Also just to inform I do have IPM viewer on my ipad and iphone.
I really want to have this link work. Please help me work this out! Is there any other way to demonstrate a 3D model in Indesign?

P.S. Earlier I tried to use the 360 view by making lots of images, but eventually the sad thing is that it works ONLY horizontally! And that made me very disappointed honestly saying.

MacBok pro Audio line in port doesn't work for microphone input Why?

I turn line-in port on in System preferences/sound but no reaction. Using within third party applications like Hear or Amadeus the recording via head set microphone is without problem. What is wrong with the Mac os ?

Actually, I've found the following problem with mine:
If the jack is stereo jack, the computer is in "line in" mode, where you need higher signal level (approx. 500mV afaik) which no passive microphone will provide. If the jack is mono, it "looks" for an external microphone and it works.
Both sockets (in and out) of the MBP are intelligent, in the sense that they detect what's connected based on the jack configuration.
I have a headset with a stereo pink jack (the microphone) and it is not working. Another microphone that I have, with a mono jack works flawlessly.

Now it totally doesn't work!!! WHY?

so i was downloading some music on my new 30GB iPod video tonight. for some reason iTunes froze. i had to force quit and actually hold down the on/off botton to finally restart my powerbook. bummer. after the reboot, iTunes does not recognize my iPod. so i re-installed the updater and such with the CD-ROM. did not help. what's interesting is that the iPod shows the correct amount of disk space left, now with all the music i put on it. but it doesn't show it and i can't listen to it.
okay, so then i tried to "restore" my iPod, but the utilities can't even find the connected iPod to do that. i want to, but my computer won't see it connected!!!! AHHHHH!!! i love mac, but geez, why can't i fix this!?

Blocking cookies with Tools Options Privacy Exceptions doesn't work on some sites, why?

I have Firefox 3.6.9 (on XP pro) set to '''ask me every time''' and '''block third-party cookies'''. Despite this I noticed that both ''live.com'' and ''yahoo.com'' (neither of which I visit directly) were able to leave persistent cookies. Having noticed this I '''blocked''' both sites using the method in the header. This did not work.
I only managed to block them by visiting the sites and using '''Page Info > Permissions'''.
It would be nice to know why this can happen. Thank you.

I haven't got the problem any more as I explained, I really wanted to know why an apparently blocked third party site was able to bypass the block.

IMessage doesn't work all the time

I'm using iPhone4S and noticed that recently for the past week, iMessage doesn't work when I text my husband who's using iPhone4.
I tried switchin network (wifi and telco data) but both also doesn't work. Please advise why this is the case and how to fix it.

Ask him to enable his email address to receive iMessages and do the same on yours. It's in Settings > Messages.

HP P1102w Wireless Function Doesn't Work!

- I am tech savvy
- used search, google, etc.
- Mac OS X 10.8.3
- HP P1102w, driver 5.0
1. installed "HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver"

3. after inputting my wireless information (SSID, password), I am redirected to a blank page with this url: http://localhost:5050/cgi-bin/ip_wireless_result.htm
The USB works, but the wireless feature doesn't work at all. Why does life have to be so hard? This is extremely frustrating.

I know that sometimes just pressing the wireless button one time can disable the wireless feature unless you are certain your wireless feature is completely broken. I suggest holding down the cancel button for five to ten seconds until the configuration page prints out and it will provide you with some information in the network section (for example: Wireless DISABLED) if it is not working.
Also, here is a link to the firmware update for this printer designed for your Mac - Version: 20130213. I know this printer can be confusing so here is a link with the User Guide for this model.
I would print that configuration page and try to update the firmware and see if that fixes this for you. Let me know if it works. If not, do you see anything in the network section of that page that prints out that says it has been disabled?

Apple 5C voicemail doesn't work even after Apple Support

About a month ago, I purchased an iPhone 5C and the voicemail wouldn't set up. I called Apple support and they helped me upgrade to iOS 7.0.4 and the newest version of my carrier, Verizon. They then helped me call my own number and set up my personalized greeting and voicemail. We even test called the number from Apple support and left a message. My Apple support helper did get the greeting and I recieved a messgae from them. The voicemail and greeting continued to work for a few days, and here we are a week later, it doesn't work. Help?

Why is this Apple's problem? Your voicemail is provided by your carrier.
Apple was kind enough to do the VM configuration for you when you couldn't, but the *setup* is Verizon's problem.
