Gradients complecated in Illustrator: best way to do them?

Please could you advise as the best way to create the gradients in the file here:
http://www.graphics3d.plus.com/silverman2.jpg
I have the task to make it capable of being printed 2 foot tall so at 300 dpi that would be 7000 pixels high by 12000 pixels wide. I do have an 8gb memory on my workstation but I would imagine it would be better to create this image in a vector format that would easily scale and keep its crispness. Please could you give some advice as to how to get these fairly complecated gradients done in illustrator? Or should I just airbrush them in Photoshop and import?
Thanks for any advice?

I haven't tried the trace features in Illustrator but you might look into
that.
I believe I'd use a combination of expanded lines and gradient meshes to
draw this. If you make expanded lines you can adjust the thinness and
thickness of the line a very specific points.

    Just use the same one on all devices.

    I need to organize medical photos.  They are pre-op and post-op photos.  What is the best way to organize them?  should I use iphoto or is that too much trouble? Since they occur on different days, organizing by event does not seem appropriate.  Also, organizing by face is not always possible as some are close up photos of an individual eye.  Surely, this has been done before, and I don't want to spin my wheels reinventing this.

    Who can tell with that amount of information to work with?
    iPhoto is not limited to Events or Faces as organizational tools - Albums, Keywords, various forms of metadata can be leveraged for use as well, and these are often more flexible. Really it's up to you to look at the tools available and see if they suit your usage scenario.

  • I am scanning all of our old photographs.  What is the best way to save them

    I am unsure if I should store on DVDs, thumb drives, or an external hard drive

    I'm assuming that your old photographs are valuable to you and you don't want to lose them. If this is the case I would plan on some kind of redundant backup scheme. Har drives fail. Recordable DVDs become unreadable. Any method could fail. If you plan to access them frequently I would definitely have them on a hard drive. In addition I might put them on some other media. Three separate copies stored in three different locations and not in the same residence is the best way to make sure the photo files are preserved should something happen in one of the locations.

  • I have a large kodak easyshare library, what is the best way to transfer them into iPhoto ?

    I have about 5k pictures in the kodak easyshare software system on a dell laptop - what is the best way to transfer or import them into iPhoto on my iMac ? any help will be greatly appreciated...

    Simply, export the data from this esy share system to standard formats like jpeg, making sure to preserve all metadata on the way. How to do that? YOu'll need to post on a Kodak forum I'm afraid.
    Then copy the files to the Mac and import them.

  • New UC560 and 3 ESW-540-24P Switches, best way to wire them

    We are installing a UC560 and 3 ESW-540-24P switches at a client in a couple of weeks.  I have installed many of these but have never installed one with multiple switches.  What is the best way to connect these together physically.  They will be all in the same rack.  Was just wondering the best way to "series" the switches together and what ports to plug them into.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    There is a Smart Design: Implementation Guide at :http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/sell/smb/tools_and_resources/smart_business_comm_system.html
    Implementation Guide
    Smart Business  Communications System 2.0 – Implementation Guide
    The implementation guide complements the SBCS 2.0 Design Guide through  the detailed guidance for SBCS 2.0 based Main Office deployment. This  document leverages the GUI configuration capability with easy-to-follow  step-by-step network deployment guidance using CCA v2.2. It also  includes an installation checklist to assist during the installation  process. It is recommended that users refer to the SBCS 2.0 Design Guide  for underlying design guidance and considerations.
    In this (figure 6) it shows a 48 and a 24 port switch connecting to each of the UC560 expansion ports (there are 2 GE ports for expansion on the 560).
    These could also be 2 48 port switches (96 total ports).  (In your scenario, I would connect 2 this way and the third to one of  those 2.)

  • Multiple movies--what's the best way to put them all on one disc?

    Hi there, as an Xmas present for the grandparents, we are compiling a bunch of movies of our daughter in various stages of her 3 years thus far, and we are hoping to put them on a DVD so that they can watch it on their DVD player / television. We were thinking of just burning them as data files to a CD so that they could see them on their computer, but were hoping that we could find a way to burn them onto a DVD so that they could watch it on their television instead!
    Will iDVD do the trick? We have an iMac 21.5" and the movies are all from our Panasonic point and shoot digital camera...
    Thanks!!!

    iMovie => iDvd should work fine in this scenario, yes. (As will iPhoto > iM > iDvd).

  • Backups.  Best way to use them?  iPhone 4s to iPhone 5

    I currently have a 64gb iPhone 4s.  I just purchased the new iPhione 5, and it's still sitting in the box.  Here's my problem.
    I have a lot, I mean, a lot of app's and accompanying data. I need to save everything, from PDF's to money management.  Ideally, I would love to put all the data from my iPhone on my iMac.  I would love to access the data anytime,  whether I want Excel files, Word files, PDFs, whatever.  I would love to access the data I have an iPhone on my Mac.
    Now comes the iPhone 5.
    I want to Start fresh, but able to pick you choose the data that I have on my iPhone 4S onto my new iPhone 5.  I just don't want to take it from a full-blown back up and dump it on my 5,  I'd much rather pick and choose what I want.  Is there any way to do that?
    thank you

    No there is not, you cant pick and choose selected items from a backup to put on your phone . Its either all or none. Sorry

  • I have some custom html5 tables, what's the best way to insert them in to Captivate 8?

    I have four html5 tables styled using css. They function perfectly in a browser - how do I get them into a Captivate slide?

    Hey, I think I’ve managed to crack it. So, I compressed my .html files to zip files. The HTML5 animation feature allows you to import zip files. So I imported the zip files into a Captivate slide and published the project to my desktop. On viewing it worked perfectly – maintaining all CSS. Perfect.
    Thanks for the help,

  • What is the best way to set up multiple Apple devices ?

    Lime many of us here I have quite a few apple devices and I just wondered whet the best way to set them up with itunes / Apple
    my Apple gear:
    Mac mini 2.53 with Mountain Lion
    Mac Mini 1.6 duo Snow Leopard
    Iphone 5c (mine) running 8
    Iphone 5c (wifes) running 8
    iPad 2 (old)  64 GB  running 8
    iPad Mini 2 retina  32 GB running 7
    g3 iMac (running Tiger) Juke box (semi retired ;-) now)
    At the moment all devices (apart from new Mac mini 2 and the old G3) are set up under my Apple ID ... (1 Apple ID for all devices) ... obviously this has problems : my wife downloads an App it will appear on my phone; we have had to disable some of the messaging systems as at one point my wife was getting my messages et ... is there a better way to do this?

    cosmiconion wrote:
    one drawback of same Apple ID for store is that what she downloads will automatically appear on all devices
    Do you mean the visibility of the purchase in the App Store (under purchases) or the installation of the app automatically on the other devices?
    In the App Store on the device (under iOS 8 at least on the iPad, I couldn't get it to work on my iPhone 5 under iOS 8), you can hide purchases...just swipe it to the left in the Purchased list. You can then unhide the hidden purchase(s) if desired by using iTunes on the PC/Mac under your iTunes account.
    Auto App updates (Automatic Downloads) can be controlled under: Settings/iTunes & App Store, scroll down to Automatic Downloads and disable those that you do not want.

  • What's the best way to manage Apple IDs for multiple devices?

    Hi,
    We have
    a shared Macbook air
    a shared iPad
    my iPhone
    his iPhone
    We want to put one ID on the Macbook and iPad that we can use to have the same iMessage on both and that we can put a card on and use in the iTunes store etc.
    We also want to have our own iMessages on our iPhones, plus be able to use the account with the cards on them to purchase and share across devices...
    What's the best way to manage them all?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    iTunes is straight forward, just use the same ID on all of them.
    What exactly do you want to see in messages on the Mac and iPad, messages combined from each of your phones or a different account just for both of you.
    You should think about what you want in calendars, contacts etc, on your shared devices.

  • Best way to return an array of values from c++?

    I have a a group of structs made of a mix of primitive types in c++. I need to return these to Java but Im not sure the best way to return them quickly.
    Should I create a class corresponding to the structure in Java then create the class in C++ and set its fields and return that? Or should I create arrays of different primitive types and return those? Can I even do that? Say, store a group of arrays of different types in a jobjectArray and return that? If I can, what would be the return type? Object[][]?

    Java side:
    package jni;
    import java.nio.ByteBuffer;
    import java.nio.ByteOrder;
    * @author Ian Schneider
    public class Struct {
        static {
            System.loadLibrary("struct");
        public static void doit() {
            ByteBuffer bytes = ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(structSize());
            bytes.order(ByteOrder.nativeOrder());
            getData(bytes);
            System.out.println("int : " + bytes.getInt());
            System.out.println("double : " + bytes.getDouble());
        private static native void getData(ByteBuffer bytes);
        private static native int structSize();
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            doit();
    }C side (I'm not a C programmer, so be nice):
    #include "jni_Struct.h"
    struct foo {
      int x;
      double y;
    } foo;
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_jni_Struct_getData
      (JNIEnv * env, jobject obj, jobject buf) {
      struct foo * f = (void*) malloc(sizeof(foo));
      f->x = 123;
      f->y = 456.;
      void * data = (void *) (*env)->GetDirectBufferAddress(env,buf);
      memcpy(data,f,sizeof(foo));
      free(f);
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_jni_Struct_structSize
      (JNIEnv * env, jobject obj) {
      return sizeof(foo);
    }This is a bit simplistic as foo is static in size (no pointers), but hopefully you get the point.

  • What's the best way to sync video and sound?

    If I'm going to make a music video with performance shots (lip-syncing) interspersed with story-line shots, what's the best way to line them up. I mean, I start with some video shot from a car while the song is playing, then transition to a shot of me singing. Say I get the singing clip lined up perfect, then when I add the transition, isn't that going to mess with the timing? And of course, I'll be doing this multiple times throughout the video. Say I get the first one right, then add some more storyline video and another performance clip and I lock that (second) clip to the audio. Isn't that going to shift my first performance clip when I add a transition? Am I making sense?

    First look at all your material ..'review' it.
    As you say so rightly: "..then when I add the transition, isn't that going to mess with the timing?.." ..yes; but only if you haven't allowed for the length of each transition when you first line up your clips.
    So watch your footage, think where you want to cut it, and then immediately think "what kind of transition there, and for how long?" ..Imagine it, in your head, so if you think "that would work best with a quick two-thirds of a second dissolve" jot down that you want to leave an extra two-thirds of a second at the start of the clip which you want to transition into.
    In the US of A, at 30 frames per second of NTSC video, two-thirds of a second is 20 frames. (..The frame counter gets up to 0:29 and then changes to 1:00, because the 30th frame changes it over to the next second..)
    In Europe the frame rate is 25 per second - so after 0:24 comes 1:00 - so two-thirds of a second is about 0:16.
    So when you start to cut your video clips, if you're going to have a two-thirds of a second dissolve between your first two, you'll need to leave an extra 20 (NTSC) or 16 (PAL) frames at the start of your second clip, before the action you want begins onscreen, so that those frames will be "eaten away" in the dissolve between the end of the previous clip and the start of the clip which follows it.
    If you definitely want to see the last few frames of "lip-sync" - for some reason - of the first (outgoing) clip, then leave the extra frames on the end of that clip, instead of at the start of the following clip, but it usually works best to ensure that the follow-on clip starts with those extra "sacrificial" frames.
    If you want to use any embedded audio that's in the video clips - and you're not simply matching up the video to external sound (..such as an iTunes track or your own material which you're pre-recorded..) then be sure to Extract the audio from your clips as soon as you've cut them, and before you apply any transitions. This keeps their audio safely "marooned" on an audio track, where you can edit it separately, and then match it to the edited video.
    So prepare all your video first, and cut it to have excess "tops and tails" which you can eat away during the transitions. (The only transition which doesn't eat away material is iMovie's "Overlap", which freezes the outgoing clip, and dissolves the incoming clip into that freeze-frame. But that - in my opinion -doesn't look to good with music videos, because it freezes the flow of the video, and makes it seem too pointlessly 'jerky'.)
