Graphics Card/DVI Input help...

Hello,
Is someone could help me that would be great. I have a monitor that suppirts both VGA and DVI inputs. I want o use a DVI input but my computer only supports a VGA output, so I need a new graphics card. Could someone please recommend a good graphics card that would be compatible with my computer. My computer is a Gateway GT5674 with a AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz, 3GB RAM and 32 Bit Operating system. Right mow it has a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce430 graphics card. Thanks

upgrade with the 8000 series graphics, your computer i think comes with a 300watt power supply so you shouldn't need to spend any more money. i think the highest you can go is 8600gt/gs for the best quality.
if you don't play games 8400 is enough. even for high definition viewing.
if you play games, go with 8600gt/gts.
if you play games and want to go with the best picture possible, go with the 8800gt/gts (if you can still find one) u can find those really cheap now and they're actually like the best graphics card you can get for the money.
if you don't have a budget limit, you can get the gtx260/280 and upgrade the power supply to 600 watt or more.

  • MONITOR MADNESS - Is it Leopard ? My graphics card perhaps ? HELP

    Friends,
    I am going nuts ( no don't answer that one ! ).
Recently ( possibly after the 10.5.2 graphics update - I can't exactly recall ) my LG flat screen monitor has started to look like a grainy 60's acid art house experiment !!
It is subtle but most disconcerting as I use my beloved G5 every day with Logic P8.
I have tried changing settings - calibration the lot... but still it looks strangely weird - like a TV that is not quite tuned in.
Gradients and shaded areas have weird lines instead of fine tones and artifacts appear around type and lines where was once beautiful and clear graphics.
When I first bought the LG 204WT 20" monitor 5 months ago it was fine !.
I have been using the recommended DVI output and tried different cables and the alternative input - the effect is still there but not quite as bad when using connector to RGB input.
The shaded areas in finder and Logic are almost transparent and grainy with a light blue / pink halo like effect around windows and graphic boxes - *I don't know how to explain it really but I do hope someone out there may have some answers or at least have an inkling of what I'm trying to describe..*
As if I couldn't make matters worse I did an archive and install to roll back to 10.5.1 early hours of this morning - this didn;'t cure the problem and I lost the use of some music plug -ins and authorizations in the bargain.. Maybe it is time to call it a day and take a long break.
Really I should get a pen and paper and sit with my guitar an a darkened room for a few days.
I called the Mac shop where it was purchased then LG but with no help, advice or offers to replace it.
I guess the monitor basically works but this strange behaviour is arguably quite subtle and may not be considered 'serious' by most people !
*In the meantime if any of you lovely people could take my situation seriously and offer any practical advise I would be most appreciative.*
Many thanks - not quite lost it yet - Paul

    Hello,
    Perhaps my problem is related?
Today, I installed Leopard 10.5.2 on a LaCie Quadra FW disk with my G5 2x2.3, 4.5 GB RAM, GeForce 6600 graphics card with one Samsung 18" and one LaCie 20" monitor. This combination (less the FW disk) has worked (and works) perfectly with Tiger.
Also, directly after installing, both monitors showed what's expected.
However, after restarting (also restaring after updating from 10.5.0 to 10.5.2) the image on both monitors is scrambled in vertical bands!
After learning how to get hold of the Monitors settings panel, just by a fluke I decided to checkmark 'Screen Doubling' (equivalent; sorry, running a Swedish System), which made the scrambled stripes go away. Then, when unchecking Screen Doubling again, everything was back to normal.
After restarting again, the problem was back, and had to be dealt with as above...
I'd really appreciate some feedback from anyone with a similar experience.
Switching back to trusty old Tiger, everything is normal as ususal, so there's apparently no hardware problem involved.
    Best regards,
    Joey

  • Problem with NEW H520 when installed new power supply & graphic card. Please help!

My H520 was working perfectly and was running FAST..especially when rebooting. ( It was AWESOME!  )Then I installed a new power supply (Coolmax 400w) and a new graphic card (Sapphire Radeon HD6450) and then everything changed.  Now my computer is booting very SLOWLY and all the programs are taking a long time to load too.  I was getting a black screen for almost a full 2 minutes before the windows 8.0 screen would finally load up and then it hangs there for a few seconds and finally goes to the start screen in windows.  But BEFORE I installed this new hardware, when I would reboot, I would see the Lenovo splash screen come up for a few short seconds and then it instantly went to the windows welcome screen.  And even then I would barely have enough time to see the welcome screen before it instantly loaded into the windows start screen.  Everything would load up fast on the desktop too and we'd be good to go. It all took about 30 SECONDS.
But now? It takes MINUTES to get everything going.   After it FINALLY loads up (it takes almost 2 full minutes now!), everything hangs up.  When you first click on the desktop, it takes a few seconds for all of the icons to pop up.  Before I loaded the new hardware, everything loaded up instantly.  I didn't even see the icons load because they were already there.  But now I have to wait for them to load up before I can even see them.  And it's like that with every program and web browser I try to use now.  Everything hangs up at first and then finally loads.  The programs work but they are sluggish.
So I uninstalled the new power supply and put back in the original 280w power supply and I took out the graphic card but it did no change.  The machine is STILL running slow on everything it does and booting very slowly.
I have seen this problem mentioned elsewhere about Lenovo computers but there is never a solution.  Please help!  It took me a long time to save up for this computer and I have been babying it ever since.  I will never be able to afford a new one or pay for tech repair.  I need to fix this!    I was so thrilled with this computer before the hardware upgrade. This is devastating to me that it is working so poorly now when all I was trying to do was upgrade it a little bit.     Now it's performing horribly and it's only 6 months old.
I ran a four hour test on the hard drive and it is fine.  I ran all the system clean ups, optimizations, registry cleanups, windows disk cleaner, defragger and virus scans. Nothing is showing up as not working but there is CLEARLY a problem.  It was never this slow.   And why is it STILL acting this slow even after I uninstalled all of the new hardware that made it start acting this way and went back to the original setup?
I'm trying to run a memory test on it now but the BIOS will NOT allow me to select another drive to boot from so I can't boot from the flash drive or CD drive to run the memory test.  I have NO IDEA what to do next and I am starting to pull my hair out in frustration.
Please, is there anything that can be done to make it better again?
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.    Thank you!
    Sincerely,
    Jennifer

I totally give up!!  I restored everything to the ORIGINAL state with drivers AND hardware and STILL everything is not working properly like it was BEFORE the upgrade.
So this has been the WORST experience with Tech support EVER!!  I have spent DAYS on the phone for HOURS with these technicians and nobody seems to know what they are doing.  They put me on hold every 10 minutes and are gone for 10 to 15 minutes and when they come back, they seem all set on a new solution but when you ask them questions about it, they have NO CLUE how to answer and then they put you on hold again.  Nothing gets solved and after HOURS on the phone, I just tell them to stop because we are getting no where but running around in circles that make no sense.    THIS A NIGHTMARE!!
So I totally gave up on being able to upgrade this machine.  To any future buyers, I STRONGLY recommend you do all upgrading BEFORE you get it home for the first time.  Make sure you have your power supply and graphic card INCLUDED before you bring it home or you're mostly likely going to have a NIGHTMARE upgrading it later.    Technical support is a HORROR STORY and expect to be WAITING for LOOOOONNNNG periods of time both ON THE PHONE and ONLINE and probably ending up with NO SOLUTION in the end.
I've VERY upset with how this turned out!!  I'm just gonna have to deal with the fact that my computer is permenantly messed up and NOBODY AT LENOVO knows how to fix it.    So I'm stuck.
I decided to send back the new power supply and the new graphic card because of this nightmare with tech support.  I put everything back to the way it was when I bought the computer and it is STILL acting up!!  I just want to revert it back to factory settings .. INCLUDING THE BIOS... but Lenovo said I have to send the WHOLE computer back to them to do that.  All I can do from home is restore from a point in the hard drive and that's not enough.  I need a TOTAL CLEAN INSTALL.  Everything needs to be wiped out and reset, not just restored to a previous restore point.  I've done this multiple times and all it does is erase all the programs and stuff I put on the computer.  The drivers and other codes are still the same.  And then bugs come up and things get all wonky.  I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE I TRIED TO UPGRADE IT!!
I am NOT comfortable with Lenovo's "solution". I do NOT want to send my computer back to them for them to reset it with factory disks ESPECIALLY when they stated that they are NOT responsible for any damage in transport or otherwise. I have to buy extra packaging to make sure it gets there safely. They told me to use the original box and packaging, that is the only way they can be sure it will get there safe.  Who has the original stuffing SIX MONTHS LATER?!?! I don't want to be sending my computer across the country to get jostled all over the place and have that add to the slowness of the hardware because it was jostled.
Can't I reset it from home?  Can they not send ME the disks instead of me sending my whole computer to them?
I'm so incredibly frustrated with this.  I hope somebody answers quickly and that I don't have to wait DAYS to get a response again.
I absolutely LOVED my Lenovo computer!  And then I tried to upgrade it.  BIG MISTAKE!!  Now everything is totally messed up and Lenovo's customer support for technical problems is HORRID!!
Somebody please help.  This is driving me crazy with frustration and totally breaking my heart.  It took me a VERY long time to save up for this computer and it was my most loved possession.  It was a reward for a lot of hard times and now it's all broken and acting slow.  And it's only 6 months old.
Is there a solution to this very frustrating problem?
I just want it to go back to the way it was before.
And is there a very low cost KNOWN TO WORK WITH THIS MACHINE upgraded graphic card and power supply?  Is there a very specific brand and make?  If so, could you let me know what it is in case I try to upgrade it again someday?
Thank you for your time and for reading this!
Please have a FANTASTIC day today!!
    ~Jennifer~

  • Iq771 inactive graphics card and no help from hp!!!

My iq771 is dead.  I took it to pc world as it is out of warranty and after a hardware diagnostics test they told me there was a problem with the graphics card either broken or inactive.
I called the hp support line and after great difficultly was given an out of warranty repair service that hp utilise.  I explained what had happened and they told me that they had been informed by hp escalation complaints service that they no longer supported the graphics card or screen on the touchsmart iq771.  It was irrepairable.  They gave me the name of the manager at escalation complaints, Grant Cyster, and after many calls and reassurances that they would call me back, i have yet to hear from them.
I have an iq771 that is three years two months old, it cost £1099, and it is now irrepairable.  Surely this machine is not fit for purpose!!
    Any advice greatly appreciated
    Techno b

hey hope this gets to you before you trash it.   If the machine powers on and you hear no beeps you are in good shape.
There is a known issue ( at least with the community, hp will never admit ) with the nvidia 7600 go graphics card burning out on this unit.  luckily the motherboard comes with a built in nvidia 6150 go, you just have to switch the right cable to it.  now getting to it is hell on this computer if you have never opened it before.
I will not go into how to remove the back cover in front of the HD and the bottom panel, as HP has these on their website under how to change the Memory and hard drive on this unit.     The real tricky part to this operation is that there are two hidden screws on the bottom right front of the unit under a sticker.  the sticker doesnt actually look like a sticker, its the label for the front audio and usb inputs.  after these are out and you have removed the optical drive and one screw on the right side close to the bezel, the plastic assembly should slide out giving you access to the graphics card and processor.
You dont actually have to remove the burned out card, you just need to look for a pinout and cable labeled lsvd1 and lsvd2 (not sure if that's the exact name but its close)
which should be located on the left side in the front.  switch the cable to lsvd2 and you are done.  reset the bios if you have not already and it should come up.    do a reinstall from system recovery if you still have the original hard drive

  • PCIe Graphics cards for G5 - help please

    I have a PowerMac G5 (late 2005) model #M9592B/A
I am looking for graphics compatible graphics cards that are identical.
    here are my requirements
    1) i need three to fit so must be 1 slot high
    2) must do s-video/composite out
    3) PCIe 4lane
as cheap as possible around the £70-£100 mark
can anyone suggest any certain models or know a place i can go to get them, i can't seem to find any anywhere and apple store don't have any to this "low" spec
    any help greatly appreciated
    best regards

    Hi-
There are none that feature s-video/composite out that are single slot cards.
The only card that is even close to your specs is the Geforce 6600.
Check what is available for PCI express graphics G5's at We Love Macs.
    Some alternative thinking.

  • G5 replacement graphics card dvi socket

Just replaced my dead graphics card with a new ATI 9600 AGP card. I’m running a dual 2.0 GHz G5 and a 23" Apple display. Problem I have is my DVI plug from the monitor does not fit the DVI sockets on the card!! The plug from my monitor has 10 pins and rounded corners and the 2 sockets on the card have only 8 pins and a square shape. Are there adapters that will connect the 2 or do I need to find a new card.

    Hi-
    Is this your connector?
    Are these the cards connectors?
If "Yes" and "Yes", then you need a DVI to ADC adapter.

What Machine to buy so it can do the above things?I can afford around 2700$ / 2000 Euros
2000 Euros won't buy you a Mac Pro, although you could buy a 27" iMac.
You can buy a pretty decent Windows machine for that price.  There are so many variables it's impossible to give you specifics, but here's a basic guide:
Buy the best CPU you can afford.  Faster CPUs give you better overall performance.  Multiple CPU cores make rendering and previewing faster.
You need 2GB of RAM for each CPU core, and a bit extra.  So, if you buy a dual Quad core machine, giving you 8 cores, you would be wise to have 16-24GB of RAM. If you buy a single Quad core machine, with 4 cores, you need 8-16GB of RAM.
You need lots of fast hard drive space to work with HD video, so buy as much as you can afford.  Avoid "green" drives and other 5400RPM drives, which can slow down your workflow.  If you can afford it, buy two drives - one for your system files, and one for media storage.
The display card is not so important in After Effects - any midrange card will do the job nicely - but because you want to play "new games", you may want a display card with a bit more power.

  • HELP!  Final Cut 4, graphics card assistance needed...

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro that I bought in August, and I recently tried to install Final Cut Pro 4... everything was successful except it tells me there is a "Configuration Error" and "this software requires certain hardware or software which is missing: AGP Graphics Card" ... What can I do to make it so it works? Is there a way without installing that graphics card? Pleas help!
    - Mike

Do you know if I can upgrade for a reduced price?
As long as you own a legitimate copy of FCP, you can upgrade to the complete Final Cut Studio 2 package for $699.00 (USD). If you own the older Final Cut Studio (v1), the upgrade price is $499.00 (USD). The full retail version is $1299.00 (USD).

  • Drivers Missing After New Graphics Card ?

Recently the graphics card on our Power Mac G4 "MDD" stopped working. For a while, there was an increased fan noise, then just a few days ago, when the computer was turned on, the fan was very loud & the screen was jittery & pixelated before providing an error message & turning off.
We ended up buying a new (refurbished) graphics card -- the same model as was in the computer to begin with: NVidia GeForce4 Titanium TI4600 128MB DVI/ADC.
Today we installed the new card & everything worked great without any errors, screen issues, etc.
However, now we have issues using both our external HD & the iSight (external Firewire camera). First, the Power Mac was not even detecting the External HD (a Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II - 2TB). We then plugged the external HD into our MacBook Pro & it worked as it did before.
Upon further investigation, it seemed that maybe the drivers & managing programs for the WD external HD were missing from the Power Mac. We downloaded & installed those (including an updated firmware) from the Western Digital site. Now the External HD isn't even turning on.. but that's a separate issue that we believe we need to speak with WD about.
Our iSight camera, however, is also not responding & we can't seem to get it to work. We tried to find the drivers for the camera, but have (so far) only been able to find an update for OS X 10.5+
*SO our question is....* are drivers installed/stored on the graphics card?? Why would these things be missing after only switching out the graphics card?
Any help/advice/info would be much appreciated as we are about to pull our hair out!

    Hi everyone!
Thanks so much for the help! It didn't make sense to us as that any drivers would be on the graphics card so the suggestions here make a lot more sense.
Before we boot to the OS X install disc and run Disk utility or Disk Warrior, etc.. is there any thing we need to know regarding files on the computer? Is there anything we should or shouldn't do so that we don't need to worry about any possible files being deleted from this procedure?
*A bit more info:* (If this helps) upon further investigation & reading online, we found that somehow the BaseSystem.pkg file was missing. We had all the symptoms mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2023
And we also tried to follow the recommendations regarding getting the computer to recognize the *iSight external camera* found here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10084429 However, we had no luck. Everything we go through those steps, a window pops up saying no camera is detected even though it is plugged into the Firewire port. We're hoping that following japanmac's suggestions will correct this as well...?

  • Graphics going bad -- Monitor or graphics card failure?

My graphics are starting to go haywire.  It came on sort of gradually.  The screen is all pixelated, and it's dominated by red pixels.
My sense is that it's a hardware failure, not a software problem.  But how can I determine if it's the monitor, or the graphics card?
The monitor is not an Apple -- it's a Dell.  And I don't have a spare, or I would just plug in another monitor.
The computer is a 2-year old Mac Pro, with an Nvidia graphics card.
    Any help?
    thanks,
    Mike

99% sure it's probably the card. At least that's the way for me anyway.
As @X423424 said, at least try to reseat the card and don't forget to unplug and replugin the video cable also.
Take the cover off the side and look to see if the video card fan is spinning or if it's completely packed with dust. If it's clogged with dust or the fan died then you have a 40/60 chance it will be fine once the fan works again.
If you know anyone with a computer, Mac/Windows, ask if you can check out the monitor before spending any hard earned cash on a new card, eh?

  • Best graphics card for G4 MDD and still have 3d acceleration in OS 9?

My MDD (June 2003) has the standard 9000 Pro in it. I read in another topic on here where someone said if 3D acceleration in OS 9 is required then upgrade options are extremely limited. Just wondered if anyone knows the last best AGP card I can stick in this MDD that'll still provide 3D acceleration in OS 9.2.2, or am I stuck with the 9000 Pro?

    Hi-
The Radeon 9700 Pro was the top card to ever be offered for the MDD.
The OEM version is very rare, and usually expensive.
The equivalent PC version 9700 Pro, flashed to Mac ROM, is readily available ob eBay.
The 9700 Pro is pretty close in performance to the 9800 Pro, supports Core Image in OS X, and is a good upgrade beyond the 9000 Pro.
However, the driver support in OS 9 is still limited:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/Graphics/Radeon9700PROOEM/index.html
The Geforce4 Ti is another performance option for the MDD. If you read the following article carefully, you may find that a graphics card won't help as much in OS 9 as you think:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/Graphics/geforce4ti/geforce4_titaniumMac.html
    This article makes similar points:
    http://www.barefeats.com/graf31.html
Serious gaming, with help from a powerful graphics card is in the realm of OS X.
For OS 9, most cards don't really get utilized as much as one may think.
Look at this article to see the potential for gaming in the MDD and OS X:

  • New iMac Graphic Cards

Yes I am a multimeida major in college and I am thinking of buying the new iMac I have an older G4 Powerbook that works ok but it will not run the new iMoive. So I am thinking in time the G4's will be a thing of the past. My question is, I don't play much games at all but if I did get into playing games is the iMac good for games or no? I mean i've heard the graphics card is not that great but I don't know much about graphic cards. Any help would be great.
    Tony

We just bought a new aluminum 20 inch iMac. The only game my family plays is the Sims 2. Imagine our shock at discovering that our sparkly new computer won't play this game. Aspyr (the company that makes the Sims 2 for Mac) tells me that at this time they cannot support any of their games on the new iMacs because of the ATI 2400/2600. They are working with Apple to try and fix the problem, but there is no timeline as to when this might happen.
We love our new computer, but if we had known about this issue in advance we would not have purchased it.
