Greyed out permissions buttons

After installing the latest Safari update (3.1.1) and restarting, my 20" 2.4ghz aluminum iMac was a bit buggy so I decided to repair permissions. While I was at it, I wanted to do the same with my external hard drives, but the Verify Disk Permissions and Repair Disk Permissions buttons were greyed out. I've repaired permissions on those drives before, and I don't know why it won't let me now! I got info on the drives using Disk Utility, and it says:
Can Repair Permissions : No
Can Be Verified : Yes
Can Be Repaired : Yes
Both external drives are attached with USB, HFS+ formatted, and Verify Disk comes back as good for both of them. I've tried restarting, unmounting the drives and switching cables.

Repair permissions process should only be possible on non-boot drives. It's actually completely useless for anything else. It only checks and repairs permissions on OS X system files. Nothing else is touched.
Even if your external is bootable, you should never repair permissions on it when booted from a different drive. If you do, the permissions will be checked against the wrong database.

I have several songs I deleted on an unknown date that I want to redownload. As I stated in the title, the songs I am looking for are not in my "Purchases" list, and when I search for the album the song is in the song has a greyed-out "Purchased" button. I get the same result on my iPhone, which was bought long after I deleted these songs (I assume).

It is possible that you may have deleted the tunes.

Also, make a backup to iTunes of the device. Then restore it as a new device. If you still have wi-fi greyed out, then contact Apple again, and explain that you believe you have a hardware issue. They may still ask for a $19 deposit, but if it is actually hardware related, then you won't be charged the $19. Only if it is software related do you get charged that $19.

TS1559 I have tried to access wifi from my 4s which has the greyed out wifi button as outlined but still no good. What else can I do

I have a greyed out wifi button for wifi. I have tried to reset the network connections as suggested but this has failed. Any ideas?

Greyed out "locked" button/ strange behaviour

anyone got any idea why virtually all my files and folders have the "locked" button greyed out? (g4 under osx 10.3.9). even if i make a brand new folder it's lock is greyed out (i thought it might have been a permissions conflict from copying stuff from other computers/ drives at first, but it seems that now this function is simply unavailable. the permissions all look ok (i am the owner of the files/ folders, i have read & write access, as do all groups and users. i have a great freeware application called File Examiner that will over-ride any permissions and that will sort out any essential files, but it is just plain wierd that when i am the owner i can't perform this simple function. is it advisable to repair permissions on the whole computer or is there some risk involved? bearing in mind that i have 1200mb of external drive storage (mainly music stuff). i have selected the main folder on some of the drives and changed every permission to Read & Write and then clicked "apply to enclosed items" and that made no difference (although it did correctly change the permissions)
These same folders have been copied to another drive downstairs, attached to a mac mini (under tiger). this has resulted in another strange problem whereby my music library behaves like it is locked and won't let me move files/ folders around. The "locked" button on the folders is actually available (which is strange as they were copied from the 10.3.9/g4 with the grey "locked" buttons), but not selected. i "solved" this problem by clicking it on, then off again.

my os is exactly the same as the one you described [Mac OS x 10.3.9 (7W98), Darwin 7.9.0.
however, that menu item is definately nowhere to be found...i know the menu you are describing as i use it all the time, but i don't remember ver having seen this "file util" option.
i am slightly concerned as i'm wondering whether this has something to do with another issue i'm having: i have built a music library on various external drives connected to my g4/panther. when i connect a drive to my intel mac mini (tiger 10.4.10) and delete files/ folders they still show up in searches afterwards (in spotlight, or using the search bar in the finder) - however, it shows up with a blank icon, uses zero k, does not give any location, is "read only", and if you double-click it a message comes up saying that it is an alias and the original can no longer be found. it then gives me the 3 options usually associated with a broken alias - "delete", "fix alias" or "ok". none of these achieve anything. it is like it has retained a "ghost" of the deleted file. as you can imagine this could gradually become ridiculous as searching will show endless nonsence that no longer really exists.
never seen anything like it. if i create and delete a file or folder on the same drive from the mac mini things behave as normal....it just happens with data written to the drives when connected to the g4/panther
conversely, if i reconnect the drive to the g4 and search for any of these "ghost" files it does not find them.
i also had a brief period the other day where i couldn't move anything around in my root "mp3 library" folder on a drive connected to the mac mini (as if my root "mp3 library" folder was locked or read only - niether of which were indicated). i eventuallly "solved" it by locking the root "mp3 library" (under "get info"....by god! it actually works in tiger!) and then unlocking it again. maybe, due to the wierdness gong on with the greyed out 'locked" folders coming across from panther, tiger saw them as locked when they wern't.

some very strange things going on

Greyed out Build Button, even though I bought Premiere Pro myself

I used to work for a company that provided us with Premiere Pro & Encore. I stopped working there months ago and no long have rights to Premiere Pro or Encore. I've been working on a video the past week, sent it to Encore, got the whole thing ready and then realized the build button is greyed out. SO - I bought Premiere Pro myself, thought it's already installed on my computer. It STILL won't let me hit the "build" button on Encore.
I'm not sure how to make it available now, other than possibly uninstalling and reinstalling Encore and Adobe? And in which case, will I lose my entire project?

When Encore is not licensed, it gives a "can't run in nonserialized mode" type error. In other words, it won't open. You are able to open it and get to the build panel, etc. Your problem is not licensing.
What a version of Encore do you have? (Help -> about Encore)
Since CS3, you could not buy it without buying it bundled with Premiere Pro.

Greyed out "Submit" button in Compressor 3.5.3

The "Submit" button is greyed out when I get to the point of submitting a job. I have the sequence highlighted in FCP 7.0.3 when I "Send to...Compressor. After dragging the "DVD Best Quality 90 min" icon into the "Untitled" area, I establish the "Source" by Right Clicking on the word "Source" and then go to "Destination", "Other". After selecting a place for both the compressed audio and video file to reside, I press the "Submit" button. At that point, where I have an option to name the file, I can only "Cancel", as the "Submit" button is greyed out. I am on a Mac Pro, with Mac OS 10.7.5. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Grey out "Publish" button

Is it possible to grey out (~ disable) the Publish button when clicked?
Now it's not easy to find out if the action has been taken or not. Sometimes (referring to Flickr export service), it starts to show a progress bar after 10 or more seconds. It happened to me, at least.

Me too, can't publish, add or delete songs to existing playlists either.......really *****!......called tech support and they wanted to charge me $50 to fix it......yeah right, later ping!

Greyed out import button lightroom with iphoto plugin

Hi,
import button not working. I am new to lightroom 5.7.1 and I am running on Mac with iphoto and 10.9.5 mavericks. I tried to use the iphoto plugin to create my new lightroom catalog but the import button is greyed out. my iphoto library is about 240gb, i am attaching the screenshot.

ITunes 11.4 has greyed out "sync" button and won't back up iPhone 6?

I have iTunes 11.4 and when I connect my new iPhone 6 it doesn't have the available option to sync. It is greyed out and will not sync. Also, when I press, "back up," it doesn't work either. I have told my iPhone to trust this computer, (same as my computer), and I have reset warnings and tried that again. iTunes 11.4, iPhone 6, 10.6.8, iOS 8.

This problem is usually caused by a restriction setting on the device you are syncing with. You may have enabled this setting to prevent your kids from making purchases while you weren’t looking.
To fix this problem, disable the restriction with these steps.
From the iPhone, iPod or iPad, select “Settings“.
Select “General“.
Tap “Restrictions“.
Enter the password that was set on the device. If you don’t know it, ask anybody who has handled the device to see if they set a password.

i have the requirement to hide "Delete" button in the serial-material screen of the line item of a contract.
               VA42 -> enter contract number.
                select one line item.
                Go to "Extras" -> Technical objects
                 Serial-material screen appears. Here i want to hide the Delete Button.
i am using enhancements to achieve this.
i require the exact point where i can use my enhancement.
please assist.

TS1559 I have two problems but since they both started at the same time I'm guessing that they are related. My WiFi on/off button is greyed out AND my iCloud Drive (under "Settings") has been "Upgrading" with that spinning download symbol for 2 wks now! N

I cant be positive but I think this started when my iPhone did an automatic software update. I couldn't get any WiFi connection because when I go to turn it back on the iPhone wont let me and Greys out my WiFi on/off button.
But also I think something happened to my iCloud connect as well because next to my iCloud Drive under "Settings" it has that spinning symbol that usually denotes waiting for something to finish downloading. But this time it never stopped! Its been spinning saying "iCloud is Upgrading" for 2 weeks now! I have tried the on/off iPhone restart or reset, and I've even put my iPhone into "Recovery Mode" as a last resort. but when iTunes was finished "Restoring" it, nothing had changed; Still Greyed out WiFi button and iCloud is still "Upgrading"! Help please!

return true;returning the result TRUE when both fields are not null
And this statement -
elsif ((p_select_list is null) and (p_text_field is null)) then
return true;returning the result TRUE again when both fields are null. If you see closely basically is not validating becoz it returning true whatever the input is.
I do not know what you want to use the second statement when you have else statement at the end. It will return false if one or both fields are null unless you want to validate either text field.

Itunes showing all data as other and sync button greyed out

Itunes showing all data as other and sync button greyed out. I have downloaded and installed Itunes 11 (multiple times) and restored my phone twice already, but I am still not able to sync my Iphone 4 with Itunes.
When I select / de-select Apps on Itunes to remove from the phone the "Apply" button does appear, but after I click it nothing happens. Then the greyed out "sync" button just appears again.
Anyone with some advise please?

Try Restarting or Resetting your touch.
Restart: Hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears and turn off your iPod. Press the sleep/wake button and hold it until you see the Apple icon.
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time. The red slider will appear first, keep hold everything until you see the Apple icon. Release the buttons.
Check your iPod and see if your music and apps have reappeared. If they do after either option, then resync your iPod.
If neither works, then Restore your touch through iTunes.
