Grid Layout and component locations

Can any one tell me if it is possible to get the location of a Jlabel in a gridLayout using getLocation().
I have 12 labels in each 12 consecutive grids , one below the other .
This cycle continues till the input is exhausted. There is no user interaction at all. Once the program begins to run , it keeps writing to these grids .
Now I want to find out the location of each Jlabel . The program always returns x = 0, y = 0.
Why is this happening.
Suggestions for solution pls ???
RC

Thanq.
I got it done by using getHeight() and then using this as the offset to increase the y-coordinate keeping the other three parameters in scrollRectToVisible( .... ) method.
But I have 2 new problems now.
1.I'm able to scroll very well .. But it tooooooo fast that before i could read the lines it is gone.. I have to time them, how?
2. Also, the scrolling stops once the main exceution completes. I mean, the panel scrolling is not synchronous with the main program execution. What should I do?

  • CS6, Fluid Grid Layouts, and Spry Menu - sizing issues

Hi. I am a full-fledged nubie to Dreamweaver, so please forgive my ignorance. But I really need to build a new site, and I really like DW so far (much better than what I was using).
I am building a site with fluid grid layouts so it is properly sized across all decices. I have inserted a spry horizontal menu as my primary navigation. I got the menu to look like I want it as far as formatting goes.
But when I view the page live and change the size of my browser, the menu wraps around to the next row, even with fairly large browser windows.
Can anyone tell me how to scale the spry menu bar the same as an image does in a fluid grid layout?
    Thanks,
    Steven

Don't use Spry Menus.  #1 they're not Responsive.  #2 They don't work all that well on Touch Screen devices.  #3 Adobe abandoned the Spry framework last year.   Is that enough to convince you?  See links below for alternatives.

  • The grid layout and different cell sizes

    Hi all
is it possible to use a grid layout but specify the height of each cell in the grid
    lets say i have a grid 2x5
    label1 | TextBox
    label2 | ComboBox
    label3 | TextBox
    label 4 | checkbox1
    checkbox2
    checkbox3
    label 5 | TextBox
the above is how i want it to work but it is appearing like this
    label1 | TextBox
    label2 | ComboBox
    label3 | TextBox
    label 4 | checkbox1
    checkbox2
    checkbox3
    label 5 | TextBox
and i assume this is because the grid cell with the checkboxes in is setting the height for all the other cells
so i want to say basically all cells equal say 20 pixels but label 4 and checkbox cells to equal say 50 pixels
    can this be done?

is it possible to use a grid layout but specify the
height of each cell in the gridNo. Use GridBagLayout.

  • Need help with Fluid Grid Layout and variable column balance.

I'm using the fluid grid layout.  I have multiple columns that are actually fluid grid layout columns done by Dreamweaver.  I'd like them to extend as high as each other (all to the maximum height of each other) within the same section.  An added catch is that in the desktop layout, I have three side by side under one that takes the whole width of the page.  On tablet size, it's 2x2 in a square grid.  On mobile, they're vertically stacked.  I'm trying to get it so that background colour and/or borders looks decent and is fully balanced, no matter which layout is hit with the fluid layout.  The columns reflow, no problem.  But the height of any background and/or border is variable.
    Any help on fixing this?
    Example at:  https://music2help.thoughtburst.net/
The example doesn't have borders or colours, as it looked silly unbalanced.  The music2help.css is the only one I'm modifying manually.
Love the fluid grid layout, but I need a way to make it behave decently with backgrounds/borders.  Any help would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks!
    mark->

I tried the solution Nancy posted.  It altered things, but doesn't seem to do the trick.
Just some quick background.  I did HTML from 1994 through about five years ago by hand in vi on *nix systems.  I learned HTML through 4.01, and never bothered with XHTML at all.  I learned CSS through most of CSS2.  The CSS3 and HTML5 stuff is all new to me, but it can't be that hard.  I'm not exactly a novice in JS (I've done a fair bit of AJAX programming), but it's not even close to my primary language (I'm a Perl guy).
I'm "stuck on" wanting to use Fluid Grid Layouts.  It's billed as one of the selling points of DW CS6, and I really like the concept and results.  I just want the results embellished a little, namely with sensible identical heights on grid containers set in the same row, so that you can apply background colours, dropshadows, and borders.  That's really all I want to do that it doesn't already do.
I have a test page at:  http://music2help.thoughtburst.net/ that you can try with your Quick Columns.  I'd be interested to know if you can get it to work.
Here's the catch, though...  Resize the browser, shrinking it inwards.  (I suggest Firefox, as Chrome only shrinks so far, and you won't get to Mobile width.)  As you can see, on a Tablet, one of the columns that should be equal height actually moves up a row and should be equal height with the row that, on a desktop, would take the entire width of the page area.  So that's like a 4-up output in printing terms.  At Mobile size, the entire thing is vertical, so none of the columns should be resized.
If your product works and can accomodate these conditions, I think I would be interested in spending the $35 it costs.
    Let me know?  Thanks!
EDIT:  Changed URL to be non-SSL.  The server has multiple vhosts on it, and I keep forgetting that I don't have a cert on this new one.  Sorry about that.  You can just add anything to one of the the three middle columns, if you're pulling it down to test.

  • Footer text-alignment in fluid grid layout and another color in white space, not the body

I'm working in a fluit grid layout. Everythings works almost perfekt. Accept for de alignment in Opera mini. Mini works not with %. So it must be padding, line-height and something else. But then the footer does not stick.
    In Opera mini
If i want the footer to stick to for example the bottom. I'm may not use padding in de footer.
De <p> i used for alignment in from the text. Now my footer must have a alignment in the middle of the footer (center). With padding in footer, it wil work, but then my footer will not stick to the bottom anymore.
and i have also another question, about the white spaces in de fluid grid. I don't want to give the header, body, footer another color. But that outside of my website.
With a normal website you give the html and the body grey and the content white. But if i do this with the fluid grid. The content because grey. Is there also a code for.
This is what it must be. It is a example, not for real. But i really want to know the code for it.

I found the wright code for the footer. Thanks a lot. I'm happy.
I'm also searching for a code for max-height. For example one page i have less text, so the page is not filled to the bottom. I want for designing reasons this. So the page is always fitt from header to footer.
It must not scrolled. Just complete for the desktop-computer and laptop. Is there a code for. Because there is already internet-tv and that are big-screens. It must be for all the browser also ie7, ie 6, opera, safari, chrome and more.

  • Dreamweaver sc6 fluid grid layouts and nivo slider

I have the nivo slider pretty much set up on my home page, with one exception. I have a sidebar to the right of the slider and the slider bullets end up above the sidebar as opposed to below and centered below the slider. If I remove the sidebar and set the slider div to the full width of the page, then the bullets end up where the should be (centered and below the slider).
What do I have to do so that the bullets end up centered and below the slider when I have a sidebar to the right of the slider?
    Thanks.

The site is not live so I don't know how to post a url for it for viewing. I inserted a print screen of the preivew in internet explorer from dreamweaver (I hope this helps), you can at least see the bullets for the slider above the sidebar. Also, the source code for the page is below. If this is not enough please let me know what else I can include that might allow someone to help me. Thanks.

  • CSS height property use in Fluid grid layout

Hi, I'm totally new to fluid grid layout and just got started in it. I have a div tag that has 5px height and I sucessfully applied that and seem fine only on Tablet landscape (1024x768) and Small tablet landscape (800x600), nevertheless it isn't even displaying on Mobile portrait (320x480), Mobile landscape (480x320), Small tablet portrait (600x800) and Tablet portrait (768x1024).

I really do appreciate your efforts to help me solve this problem... Thank you in advance

Height is determined by content.  I can't think of a single reason to have a div height of 5px because almost nothing will fit inside that small a space without problems.
As to why it doesn't show up in other devices, you must have put that style into the Tablet CSS code instead of the default Mobile CSS code.
Fluid Grids build up from Mobile (applied to everything) with specific rules for Tablets, then Desktops.
Best advice, use Fluid Grids for layout only.  Use a separate CSS file for content styles.
    Hope this helps,
    Nancy O.

  • CSS layout and Internationalization of JSF apps

We use message bundles to handle internationalization in our JSF applications. This approach seems to work as we used HTML tables (or rather <h:panelGrid> tags) to layout components on the page.
We had numerous customer complaints about tons of extra white space left on the screen in languages like German (where some words are very long). There are other issues with grid layouts, and we decided to give CSS positioning a try.
I wonder, what folks on this forum think about using CSSP in conjunciton with JSF components. Also, given that text strings have different length in different languages, what is the i18n approach? Afterall, coordinates that work in English may not be accurate in German.
Any suggestions, ideas, pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vadim.

    Hi guys.
The problem seems a little bit weird. But you could try the following. It is just the idea.
    1. You should recover the .properties file and get the Map for the current Locale. This should have to be done maybe in the Backing bean.
    2. Get the maximum length of the UIOutputText elements present in the form that you need to control its length. Now the important thing here is that you should have the value atribute of the UIOutputText objects based on an internationalized Base Bundle prefix. Just cut -based on the substring of the value attribute- the name of the property.
    3. Consider that you have to look in the Map the entry you just obtained from the UIOutputText object. After get the value of that Map entry (a String object) and get its length. At the end of the loop you sould have get the maximum length in characters of the component values to be displayed.
    4. Fix that value as an attribute in the backing bean.
    5. Use the output of that value to generate the style in CSS, as an String attribute of the Backing Bean. Base your CSS construction in "em" measures
    6. Change the -style- attribute in each component to reflect the correct length using CSS like this -style="#{backingBeanName.style}"-. With this you will get an space dependent of the length of the localized values.
Again. It is just a suggestion, I had not tried it already but I guess that will be my way in that case.

  • Can I use grid layout in JSF visual page designer ?

    Hello dears...
    I am using Jdeveloper 11 g and 10 g .
When I tried to use JSF visual editor (from the component palette), and when I drag any control to the page I found that the control go to the top left of the page
and I even can not move the control to another place in the page by the mouse.
the JSF visual designer seems to use flow layout for the page . (the same as using flow layout in the swing applications).
The question is Can I change the page layout to be grid layout instead of flow layout ?????? (to be able to move any control to anywhere in the page.)
Note that in netbeans 6.1 , when u design JSF page , you have 2 options for the page layout, grid layout and flow layout and u can choose as u like.
Is this feature found in jdeveloper 11 ?????
if not , Can anybody tell me any workaround to design JSF pages without using flow layout ????
    Thanks in advance
    Samy

We don't provide absolute positioning for JSF application - this is a bad practice since it fills your JSF page with CSS code and create applications that are not portable between different screen/monitor resolutions - so we use flow layout instead and provide a much richer set of layout components.

  • DW CC Fluid grid layout how to change px width for desktop layout

    Hi there,
I have been going through the various tutorials about fluid grid layout and setting up our bureau's website in a responsive layout.
The width of the original design was 960 px and the hero pic and others have been exported at that size.
The first divs in the design look fine, header with the 960 px pic in it, and also the BC menu which is set to 960 wide.
However the body text goes out to the right, past the 960 px and this is because, right at the start, when starting the file in DW the desktop screen width is set to 1232px.
How can you change this setting when starting a new fluid grid layout?
I have tried changing the number of columns, or the percentage, and the width for desktop remains at 1232px.
    Why is this?
Not all of our clients want a site 1232px wide on a pc.
    Thanks so much.

    Hi Ben and Nancy,
Thanks for your replies, but maybe you both don't realise I am asking specifically about DW CC and setting up a responsive design using a fluid grid layout?
I have been following the recent videos from Adobe on this.
As far as the width of 960 goes, Nancy I am only shortchanging myself, as this is the website for our agency. The original design is 960px wide as I did read somewhere that this width is recommended now that responsive is coming, as it is easily divided into a grid layout. I also am quoting for a client at the moment who wants a responsive design for their website, and they have specifically requested that the site have a maximum width of 960 px. So I would like to find out if this is possible in DW CC at the moment when doing a fluid grid layout.
So what I am trying to do here is follow the Adobe tutorials on responsive design, using DW CC and I am using the current design for our agency website as a trial to set this up and try and get it working as a responsive website.
It does not seem to me that many other people are doing this, as most people are recommending that I try Github or Bootstrap.
However, I am not a coder and I am used to using DW, so I would like to get the DW CC responsive design features working if possible.
Ben the CSS you are looking at is being generated by DW CC as I follow the steps in the Adobe demonstration videos to set up a fluid grid layout in DW CC.
One of the things they say in the videos is that you can't program the CSS directly when doing a fluid grid layout, or you break the CSS and it all stops working. So I am using the new panels in DW CC to set up the layout. One thing I cannot get access to is the ability to set a maximum width for the site. It seems to be set in concrete when you start the fluid design up in DW CC.
Here is a pic of the screen I am talking about that sets the maximum width:
I cannot click in the pixel width at the top and change it. Also if I adjust the number of gridlines or the percentage for the pc layout, the default maximum pixel width does not change.
If you click on the preferences button and go into the Window sizes screen, there does not seem to be a way to set the maximum pc width here either, so I am a bit stumped.
Maybe I just have say to my clients that if you want a responsive design then the max width for pc can only be 1232px? It does seem strange to me that this cannot be changed.

  • Fluid Grid Layout can´t be changed after opening .html file

    Hey Community!
I´m working with DW CS6 for a few weeks now and I´m really happy about it!
But now I´ve got a Problem... I used google and this forum to find a solution to it, but didn´t find anything about it. (Sorry, if i was too stupid to search for the right keywords! )
I´ve created a new side with DW and wrote some html pages: All of them are fluid grid layouts and it worked all fine till today. Every page is seperated in an own folder including the "boilerplate.css" & the "respond.min" file, so the filetree looks like this (UPCASE = Folder):
    ROOT:
         index.html
         boilerplate.css
         respond.min
         OFFERS:
              offers.hmtl
              boilerplate.css
              respond.min
         ALBUMS:
              albums.html
              boilerplate.css
              respond.min
    and so on...
So today I wanted to open the .html files, to make some changes, add new fliud-grid-div-tags and add new content. The pages look still lik I left them (correct layout, old fluid-grid-div-tags still at the right position, everythings fine), but the collums of the fluid grid aren´t displayed anymore and I even can´t move the fluid-grid-div-tags anymore
    In other words:
The collums are still there, but the fliud-grid-div-tags are no longer displayed green and editable in their position and size.
Did I do something wrong? Or is it maybe just a special Checkbox to click in DW to edit them (like I´m now in a wrong DW-view or something like that?)?
I hope you got a solution so I don´t have to rewrite all the pages again to be able to edit them!
    Greetings from Germany,
    David

    Hi Community,
I found the solution on my own in a video, where someone deactevaded those green fields...
    So it´s solved

  • Fluid Grid Layout -

I added a new Fluid Grid Layout and when I try to add a DIV I receive the message "Could not find Dreamweaver Fluid Grid Style Sheet".  I don't see the pink bars on my screen as shown in all of the tutorials.  Can I use this option in CS6?  I have followed the tutorial but it doesn't seem to work.

No, not a site.  I am working with a test folder.  I created a new folder called fluid.  The folder contains 4 files:
fluid.css (the new FG css file)
    fluidpage.html (a new blank page)
    boilerplate.css
    respond.min.js

  • Fluid grid layout won't open

I simply create a new fluid grid layout.. name and save the default css file ...name and save the default first page and upload to my server.
Everything works fine and I am able to work on the page in dreamweaver cc as a fluid grid layout.
But when i close down dream weaver, (even if i do no more than save the two files and dont edit anything else) and reopen dreamweaver cc i can no longer work in fluid grid layout, dreamweaver doesnt recognise the page (default) as fluid grid layout and i cannot see the little button that toggles fluid grid layout on and off.
I have not edited the css file or the page in anyway.
someone suggested i go to visual aids and enable fluid grid guides .... but this does not exist and there is no longer a fluid grid button next to the live view button.
I really need to get this working, fluid grid layouts are useless if you cant edit them after creating them

Thanks in advance for any replies

I defined the site, when i imported the site as business catalyst site.
It is there, i have checked all the details are correct and can edit and work on the site as a normal site, I just can't get it to recognise any pages i've created as a fluid grid page after closing and reopening the page.
Yeah I watched the video and that is what im doing, create new page as fluid grid layout, save the css to the root, save the html page to the root, all works fine and i can edit in the fluid grid, the grids there, the little buttons there, the handles to adjust fluid grid propertys there.
But at any point if i close the page and open it again i lose the handles, the fluid grid and the little button and can only edit as a normal dreamweaver page.
I tried to phone adobe support yesterday but gave up after 2 hours of waiting

  • How to get 100% width in fluid grid layout CC

I'm currently getting to grips with dreamweaver's fluid grid layout and cant seem to get a div to go the full 100% width across the screen. Ive created a div outside of the grid container as a non fluid div, and entered in the CSS myself in code view since Dreamweaver doesnt seem to allow you to add a class or ID to non fluid elements in design view. I have done this and all though i thought i had achieved success i noticed when looking closely in live view and when previewed in chrome that there is still a tiny gap between the div and the edge of the screen. Its very small, but its definitely there. Ive enetered width to be 100% and its definitely not simply 100% width of the grid container as its wider. I just cant account for the tiny gap which seems to be about 1 pixel wide. Any ideas whats causing this gap?
