Grid View: Flags, Rating, Color Label read only? / Mark Images Read only?

Hi
I'd like to see the flag-status, rating and color label assigned to an image as cell icons. But if I show them as Cell Icons, I am also able to change them, which happens to me quite often accidentally when I click into the frame of a image to change selections.
Is it possible to show these markers for each image without being able to change them in the frame? I would be quite happy being able to change them from the tool bar, but still being able to see them on the single image.
Related to this:
Is it somehow possible to mark images as read only, so that further changes (development, metadata etc.) can be made impossible? This would be nice for older images, which have been processed completely and should stay that way, inhibiting accidental changes to images. Sometimes it is difficult to even notice when one accidentally changes metadata on an image.
Thanks for your thoughts

Yes it's a bug. I see it on Mac platform.

  • Applying star rating/color label to "Current Pick" in Stack View mode

Is it possible to apply a star rating/color label to the "Current Pick" in Stack View Mode? Thanks.

is there a way of applying both the five-star rating, AND the green color label at the same time, with one keyboard shortcut, or otherwise?
If you need to do this in exactly one action, then I don't think there is a way to do this. Of course, if you want to accomplish this in two actions, you can select all the 5 star images, and then apply the Green color label to them all in one step, but that isn't what you asked for.
Is there any way to make my five-star rated photos more visually prominent in the grid view?
    Not that I know of
ANother thought is to create a smart collection of your 5 star images, and then you can use the smart collection to view the 5-star images (none of the other images will appear)

  • Grid view by rating includes raw unstarred images

In the grid view by rating, if you have a starred psd PLUS the raw file from whence it came, they both appear in sort by rating (this is NEW and UNDESIRABLE).  Is there a way not to see the raw file?

  • Why doesn't the "Command Number" keyboard shortcut apply the colored label to the selected image?

Why doesn't the "Command Number" keyboard shortcut apply the colored label to the selected image?  The similar keyboard shortcut to assign stars works, but the shortcut to assign a label color doesn't?

Just to be sure they haven;t been reassigned in your Aperture go to Aperture->Commands->Customize then in the search box in the upper right hand corner enter color.
You should see the keyboard shortcuts and the corresponding add label commands.
If they are set then quit Aperture move you preference file to the desktop and restart Aperture. The instructions for moving the preference file can be found at Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

  • Grid view thumbnail border colors

    Hi all,
I have searched Help and online and can't find an answer to a very simple question:  Why is the thumbnail border for some images a different color in grid view?  Please see the attached image.  I can't figure out why the image on the left is a lighter gray than the two in the middle.  The far right image is lighter because it is selected.
    Thank you.
    John

Thanks Rikk, but I'm not sure if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me there.
    Just for clarification:
When images are not selected, and they are in an expanded stack, they will appear in the grid in a darker shade of the colour they would have if they weren't in a stack, or if they were in a collapsed stack, like so:
The two images on the left are not colour labelled, and not part of a stack. The two images on the right are also not color labelled, but are an expanded stack, so are shown with a darker shade of grey.
If we then apply the same colour label to each image, we then get the same effect:
But I agree that making a selection on any of these images does complicate the answer!!

  • Color Label (icon only)

I found it somewhere before, but I can't seem to locate that option anymore, where color label only applies to the icon and not the text.
    Help.

Hi starbark, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no built-in feature on Tiger that will allow that. (EDIT: That I know of)You might try this Unsanity haxie. It looks like it will do what you want.

  • Problems with impromptu slideshow in lightroom 5, functions such as flagging, rating not applying to all selected images?

I'm using windows lightroom 5 and have just started to learn the programme.  I am using adobe photoshop lightroom 5 classroom in a book which is an official training workbook from Adobe so you'd think the instructions would work for the lessons but they don't. Is anyone else having problems getting ratings, flagging, colour labels to apply to selected images. Also the esc button doesn't take me back to the main working screen. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Can you zip up a few of your GoPro images, upload them to dropbox.com and post a share link, here, so others can experiment with them, or do you mean this issue is global to all camera models?

  • Rating / Label "Buttons" active, although not shown in Grid View

While I was investigating the reason for JPEG images being written back with no obvious changes applied to them (see also How to filter on Metadata Status "Has been changed"?) I noticed something I think is a bug:
Becaus it sometimes happened to me that I unintentially changed the rating for a picture because I wanted to click into the frame of an image to select it as the only image, I have set my Library View Options as follows for Compact Cell Extras (for a better description also see Grid View: Flags, Rating, Color Label read only? / Mark Images Read only?):
    Index Number checked
Top Label checked with File Name
    Rotation unchecked
Bottom Label unchecked with Rating and Label
Now, if I click into the area, where rating or color label would show (if shown), the rating of the images changes. So I am clicking on an option I don't even see ...
This was one of the reasons, why metadata in pictures sometimes  would get updated without me knowing why. Anybody else who has experienced this behaviour?

P.S: My workaround now is to have Common Photo Settings shown in the bottom label.

  • Feature Request: Linked flags, ratings, and labels in a stack

I use stacks to group the original image with derivatives of that image, but the way Flags, Ratings, and Labels work on stacked images isn't well implemented for that.
Often, I will create derivatives of the original by flagging a bunch of images as Picks, then using export to create the new files.  When I do this, the rating and status of the original are automatically added to the new files.  Unfortunately, the Flag status is not, so I cannot, for example, just set a filter for Flag = Pick and continue working with the same set of images.  Likewise, since stacks aren't fully implemented in collections, I can't just create a collection first and then continue working there the way I'd like to.
What I'd like is to have a checkbox in the export dialogue, when I am stacking with the original, that will allow me to copy the Flag status to the new files.  That way, my Flag=Pick filter will allow me to keep on working with the same set of photos.
Even once the photos are stacked, I can't really work with them as a set because, now, a Flag, Rating, or Label change to one image in the stack doesn't affect the others.  For me, since these are all derivative of the master image, I generally want such changes to apply to the entire stack.  I know this probably isn't true for others, so what I envision is an intuitive icon on a stack to quickly link or unlink, or select or unselect, all images in the stack.  When all are linked or selected, any changes would affect all the images in the stack, otherwise, changes would only apply to the currently selected or visible image in the stack.

    Thanks Carolyn.
    I'll follow your link.
I'd also like to know others input. Sometimes I think I'm the only ones who is used to shortcuts, or I have to wait until forum residents quit writing (others might think I'm taken care of and not replying) so people who actually uses the Mac to work can opine.
Anyway, here's how I use the browser when working. I think it's very common, or at least enough for an "option".

  • Lightroom 4.4: Only 3 thumbnails will display at a time in both Grid view and the Film Strip

Hi. I have Lightroom 4.4. and Windows 7--both of which have been working fine for several months. Starting a few days ago, however, thumbnails have refused to load for any NEW photos I import. They appear gray/blank in both Grid view and the film strip. However, if you click on any of the film strip thumbnails (while in either Grid view or Develop mode), that thumbnail and corresponding image WILL load--until up to three have done so. Then they begin disappearing again, allowing you to view no more than three images' thumbnails at any one time.
I can't review a shoot via Grid mode this way. I'm also afraid to use Lightroom while it's misbehaving, for fear of corrupting the catalog somehow (though all the images appear to be there). Searching this forum, I found several people who experienced having all of their thumbnails blank out and who were able to correct this by either reinstalling or removing their color profiling software. However, 1) I did this (and it didn't work), and 2) it isn't that all my thumbnails that have disappeared. All the thumbnails and images imported prior to the bug, still initially display correctly.* And I can get three thumbnails of the newer images to appear at a time.
*The asterisk is because after I poked around some more, I realized that if I opened other folders and began post-processing images from older uploads (vs. just viewing them), the thumbnails that initially displayed correctly everywhere also blank out and begin appearing in this up-to-three-at-a-time fashion.
    Help, please?
    With many thanks,
    Rita

Alas, it didn't work. I did it twice--the second time rebooting the computer before starting Lightroom. I didn't expect the reboot to make a difference, but I did discover something else in the process: the second time I tried this, I accidentally opened a different catalog--and new photos imported just FINE into that one, thumbnails and all! For one moment I thought the reboot HAD made the difference. However, when I reopened the catalog I actually wanted, the original problem remained. Thumbnails don't load with import, and, when forced, only display up to three at a time.
So the problem seems specific to this catalog.
And yes--thank you for affirming that reinstalling Lightroom wouldn't work, either. (I forgot to mention that's what I had tried first. It didn't help--but it's nice to know it wasn't supposed to.)
Thank you so much for your reply. Do you have any other ideas, please?
    With many thanks, truly,
    Rita

  • How do I find images in LR 2.4 (imported from CS4 Bridge) that have color labels already assigned In CS4 Bridge? I have set both Bridge and LR color labels text to match (eg Green for green, etc).

How do you find images in LR 2.4 that have been imported from CS4 Bridge and have been assigned a color label in Bridge?  I have set both LR 2.4 and my CS4 Bridge to match the text for each color to be the same (eg. Green for green, etc), and the filter search in LR 2.4 shows that a label has been assigned, but I am unable to identify and locate the specific images in LR 2.4 that have had a color label assigned from CS4 Bridge.  I have tried to search via attribute, metadata, text, etc...Is it necessary to re-assign color labels all over again, image by image, in LR 2.4, or is there a way to automatically have the color labels assigned in CS4 Bridge be assigned and searchable to the images after they have been imported into the LR 2.4 catalogue from the Bridge program?

    JohnM.
I closed both programs and re-imported photos and re-tried the action of having LR  read the XMP metadata from the CS4 files, and it seems to work now just fine...don't know why now and not before, but thanks much. Is there a way to have LR do this automatically upon import of images from CS4?  I tried to do this with an import metadata preset, but no luck.  It seems as if I can only do this once the images have already been imported into LR, and then to have to have LR read the metadata from the CS4 Bridge files.  thanks gain.

  • Tumbnails missing in Grid view for project

I've searched prior discussions but did not see the same issue listed.
Referenced files on internal drive, Aperture v2.1, OS X 10.5.2 and PowerMac Quad.
I'd been sorting out iPhoto and Aperture dups. and consolidating everything into Aperture. I noticed that one project had 214 images, yet only displayed around 5. No scroll bars etc. I rebuilt the library and tried a reset permissions but the project remained in error. Since I had the masters and that project had few if any edits, I merely secured my masters, deleted the project and reimported the masters.
Has anyone seen a similar issue and if so, found a fix/workaround for when there are ost of edits?

Sorry guys, i meant since iTunes 10 and not 9! Grid view worked fine on 9.

  • Cycle Grid Views (J) odd behaviour

    Hi
I am using using 4.4 and have seen a strange behaviour when using the J key to Cycle Grid Views.
On some images the J key works as expected and cycles continuously through each option.
However, on some occasions, on certain images, the third press of the J key causes the grid view to jump to a different set of images, interestingly the selected image remains selected.
Limited testing shows that when the grid view does jump it always seems to jump to the same set of images.
This is not a huge problem as I do not cycle the view that often and on this occasion I did it by accident as I was meaning to add a keyword that happened to begin with a J and I had not selected the 'click here to add keywords' box.
Any thoughts as to why this is not working would be appreciated.
    Regards

That seems similar to, but not exactly the same as, the problem I've been having for the past 2 weeks on only one of my 2 computers:
metamatt, "missing text / thumbnails / many Lightroom UI elements disappeared" #, 18 Aug 2007 3:08 pm. I too find that the problem in Grid view depends on the view options I've selected, but for me, the thumbnails are either always present or always missing, for given view options -- they don't appear then disappear.

  • Grid View in shared library account

Hello, I decided to share my library with my son so he could use Itunes on his account in my Mac. When I go to his user account and look into Itunes I can see the shared library but I can not select the "Grid view" (on the top right). Only the list view is available and the 3 choices on the "view menu" are grayed, no access to it. Is there possibility to view the music as a Grid View?
    Thanks
    Thierry

    Thierry,
I just ran into this today. I'm setting up 2TB of music and video on a Mac Mini in iTunes that I want to access from the other Macs in the house. It works, but I can't change the view on the client machines. You wrote about importing the shared library. Can you be more specific? I'm not an iTunes expert and didn't see how to do this.
    Thanks,
    David
