Group open windows in tabs

I am getting a very cluttered desktop with lots of terminal windows open and lots of Preview documents open as I am programming and looking up code in manuals and references.
Is there any app out there that groups my open windows in tabs. Like all terminal windows are grouped in one window with tabs, all preview windows are grouped in one window with tabs,...
This way I could have both windows next to each other and simply switch documents.

Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
Thank you.

    hi, i can not find any way to delete all my firefox history, except open windows and tabs.
    i could not find any solution about in the web. i did try almost all settings in privacy settings, nothing works. any ideas how to do that, or maybe suggestions for add ons?

    Hello,

  • How can I turn all of my open windows into tabs?

    There seem to be tons of resources to turn tabs into windows but I would like to turn my ridiculous amount of open windows into tabs so that I can use the many addons to organize tabs but can't seem to find anything. Help, please. Thanks.

    The manual way is to click and drag the tab from the tab bar of one window to the tab bar of the window where you want to move the tab. As you hover over the bar a heavy upward pointing appear should appear at the base of the tab bar showing where the tab will be inserted (i.e., between some tabs already in that window, or at the end of the bar). Does that make sense?
    (Note: it's easier if you un-maximize the "source" window and pull down the top of the window so you can see the "destination" window behind it.)
    Not sure if there is a more automated way to do it.

  • Firefox asks (twice) to save and close tabs, on new open windows without tabs, when i close them.

    About one month ago, i started to receive a message box from firefox, asking if i wanted to save and close tabs, on newly open windows (and pop-ups) without any tabs open on them.
    And everytime i close the windows without tabs, firefox asks it twice...
    I did not made any changes, so i don't know why it started doing this.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Open window or tab to a link  without having to hold down a button

    Is it possible to not have have to keep holding down command or option in order to open a new window or tab. Make it so it opens in a a new window or tab automatically when you click instead of dissolving the current page and loading the link.
    Thanks !

    You can do two things, but they won't necessarily eliminate the need to hold down the command kay, and will sometimes have no effect at all, depending on the link.
    First, launch Terminal and copy/paste this command:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
    press Enter or Return, then quit Terminal. This will cause targeted links to open in a new tab automatically, without holding down the Command key. However, any links that have no target or are controlled by JavaScript will be unaffected and will open in the same window or tab.
    And, you can also download and install Glims, which offers even more features, and it's free.

  • Q: How do you sync all open windows and tabs?

    How do you sync all windows and tabs? And if this is not possible, how do you nominate which Windows' tabs are sync'd?
    Sincerely,
    Adam

    You don't have a hot-corner for that anymore.
    You use a gesture for that now. You can either 4-finger swipe down, or place the tips of your fingers in the center of your track pad.  Your fingers should be bunched up and touching each other.  To show all windows, expand your fingers, as if you were showing someone "5" on your fingers.

  • Firefox opens window with tabs leading to garbled links

    Almost every time I go to a site, firefox opens a new window with numerous tabs trying to access garbled links. The first tab looks like this: http://i56.tinypic.com/2nkuo9k.jpg.
    Anti-virus programs found nothing, and re-installing firefox didn't fix it.

  • Open in New Tab and Open in New Window have switched places, how to revert?

    I was glad to find as i logged in today that Firefox had a update ready. I was even more excited when i learned that the browser itself has been updated. And while all these new and exciting things make Firefox an amazing choice for a browser, im at my wits end on this little change that is annoying the hell out of me.
    Apparently between 3.6 and the new Firefox, when you right click on a link, you see Open in New Window in the spot where Open in New Tab was. This may not seem like a big deal, but to a person who has been opening windows in tabs since tabbed browsing came out, i absolutely hate having multiple windows open.
    When i right click on a link, its an automatic reflex for me to open it in a new tab, but now i cant. Each time i end up opening a window instead. Is there an easy fix to this little problem that's driving me insane?

    Opening order of Tabs in 4.0.1
    To make TABS open to the right within each browser window in the same order as you opening them:
    What to do:
    Open a second window so you can read these instr.
    Enter "about:config" in URL address bar.
    Get a warning - 'Are you sure / advanced settings...blah, blah. '
    Click YES
    Scroll down the page until you find the described line:
    "browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent"
    Find it a ways down, then right click on the line to then TOGGLE the menu pop-up option to "FALSE" DONE !
    It worked immediately, no need to restart.
    My tabs now all open to the right in order of them being opened.
    Nice.
    Thank you 'Platon' from a different Mozilla help site.

  • In OSX Safari, how do I drag a single open window to an existing tab set?

    In OSX Safari, how do I drag a single open window, without tabs, to an existing window with a tab set?
    I have an iMac 5K running Yosemite.

    Thanks, but I have multiple open tab sets and want to move a solo window to one of the windows with multiple tabs. It seems there must be a way to grab that solo and move it in with the tabs. My workaround is to add a tab to the solo window to create a tab that I can grab, but isn't there a "handle" for a solo window that is "grabbable"?

  • Is it possible to restore lost windows? Firefox crashed, and only 5 of my open windows reopened, even though all settings are such that all should be restored.

    Unfortunately when I restarted Firefox after its most recent crash, most of my open windows and tabs were not restored as they are set to do and as they usually do after a crash. Not that I enjoy Firefox crashing, but usually everything reopens and life goes on. However, after a crash tonight, when I next opened Firefox about 80% of my open windows and tabs did not reopen.
    After this (most recent) crash most of my windows and tabs were not restored:
    bp-e7f145b9-04cf-4de8-a4a4-8e2952130816
    This was the most recent prior crash where my windows and tabs were restored:
    bp-c674bdd3-e905-44c0-9bc9-6b4982130815
    **I would love to have these windows and tabs reset, or at least be able to find a list of them to reopen them manually.**
    I am running Firefox 23.0. My antivirus and antispyware were run overnight last night with no issues.
    (This is on my desktop computer using Windows XP. I also have a laptop which runs Firefox 23.0 which uses Windows 7. Firefox on it crashes as well, but thankfully thus far the windows and tabs have been restored. I use it less than I do my desktop, however.)
    Thank you very much!

    Thank you -- I will do so. Still, I'm very eager to restore (or find a list of) my windows and tabs that were not restored after the last crash. Is it possible to do that from the last working restore?
    The last two working restores were after the crash mentioned above, bp-c674bdd3-e905-44c0-9bc9-6b4982130815, and before that, bp-7f5b697e-c4c5-4cb8-9b15-9318c2130815.
    FWIW, I just updated to 23.0.1. Thank you *very* much!

    After opening certain websites, pogo, firefox 4.0.1 closes with no error message. When I restore the session I get: Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    I have had this problem before and had to reinstall an earlier version of firefox.
    The error console has a long list of errors, many of them end with: does not implement nsIObserver. Is there a way to send the information on the error console to firefox support?
    Redownloading Firefox 4.0 will fix my problem until I either close firefox or turn off my computer. The problem recurs when I open firefox again.

  • Is there a way to use Sync to restore the windows and tab groups I had on my previous computer?

    I recently set up a new computer. Signing into Sync restored my bookmarks but not my Firefox windows and tab groups. I can get a LIST of "Tabs From Other Devices" to show up, but what I want to do is to restore the session from my previous computer. Is it possible to do this with Sync? I thought that this was supposed to be one of the things it was for.

    You can copy the sessionstore.js file in the current Firefox profile folder to an USB stick and copy that file to the profile folder on the other computer.

  • How can i open a few windows or tabs side by side?

    Hi firefox crew!
    Okay, I know how to work the tab groups. But I'd like to be able to open a window(or tab) side by side with one or more others, as often I want to compare a couple sites/web pages. I really would rather be able to easily do this! So I'm wondering:
    is there any way to, say, choose some setting or option/customize to have firefox automatically open a second window (or tab) as a half-window, whilst shrinking the first fullpage down to the other half of the screen (or window)?
    And, even better would be if I could select a few tabs of my choosing at once (eg. by ctrl-clicking each one i want from among the tabs i have open along the tabs bar, say, A, C, E, and F out of all my 7 tabs A-G), and right-click to bring up a context menu, and from there select an option: "open tabs in a grid", and have that work to display (all four of) these tabs side by side.
    (And, theoretically, each successive tab/window opened in this manner would effectively add to the grid, thereby shrinking each one proportionately.)
    Any ideas on how to make this work? Much appreciated!

    OOH, to let you all know (both experts and other newbies who might benefit!)--
    i think i found my answer! :)
    To tile open windows horizontally(side by side), if i right-click on an empty Taskbar area i can choose Tile Windows Horizontally (in Windows XP).
    To tile windows vertically, i can right-click on an empty Taskbar area and click Tile Windows Vertically (in Windows XP) or Show Windows Stacked.

  • Open in new tab on right click fails to open in the current window when used in a dependent window called with window.open command from original window this worked fine until ver 4.0

    i have been using this page in all versions of firefox until ver 4.0 and it has worked fine
    https://npwas.com/dummy/charts/charts.html
    when this page is loaded enter a stock symbol in the text field "AAPL"
    then click one of the lower links --"Yahoo Headlines"-- and another window is opened with this code
    - function yahoolink(sqlstring, winnum) {
    - var myurl = "http://finance.yahoo.com/";
    - var mysymbol = document.SymbolForm.symbol.value;
    - var mysrc = myurl + sqlstring + mysymbol;
    - var mywindow = "mywindow" + winnum;
    - //alert("mywindow- " + mywindow);
    - if (sqlstring == "mb/")
    - mysrc = "http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/" + -sqlstring + mysymbol;
    window.open(mysrc,mywindow,'resizable=yes,titlebar1=1,toolbar=1,scrollbars=1');
    all this works but when i right click on a message or news item and select "OPEN IN NEW TAB" - it fails to open the tab in this current window it opens it in the parent window --
    the way i have always used this is to able to select news and right click all news items to read as new tabs and have all news items or messages to be grouped in the child window
    this is now broken or do i need to recode something??
    https:\\npwas.com come is my secure server and you may load the page and see the code
    so far i really love ver 4.0 especially the sppppppeeeeeeeeed!!!!
    keep up the great work

    1. Install the Menu Editor add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ .
    2. After the installation, go to Firefox> add-ons (or simply use Ctrl+Shift+A)
    3. Go to the Menu Editor "Options"
    4. In the "Main context menu," simply grab the "Open link in New Tab" and place it below the "Open Link in New Window"
    5. and Voila! You may also change other menu options if you want to!
    I tried jay_ff method first and found that indeed changing the Main Context Menu did cause the hotlink context menu to change as well.

    Question
    How do you get firefox 4 to save tabs and windows and restore them? Don't say set preferences to open them on startup or use restore previous session under history; those do not work. Or is it no longer possible to save windows and tabs?

    '''IT'S A EASY AS IT SHOULD BE.'''
    This is essentially paulbruster's answer, but I've added the steps some might assume, but which aren't so obvious to those of us who are new at this, like me.
    This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
    # If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
    # Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
    # Select Tab Groups.
    # Create a few groups as described [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group here] , i.e. just drag them out of the main thumbnail group into the new groups they create.
    # Now click on any thumbnail in any new group, but not the original big default group you may have left some tabs in.
    #A regular Firefox window will open, but'' only the tabs in that group will be visible.'' You also now have the Tab Groups button in the tab strip.
    # Right click on any tab, and there it is: Bookmark All Tabs. Click on it in the list of options. Or you can hit Ctrl+Shift+D instead and go straight to the dialogue box from the tab without any clicks. But don't go looking for this familiar option anywhere else, 'cause it's not there.
    # Now pick an existing folder or create a new one just like you would have before and '''shlpam!''' there they are. New folders are supposed to end up in the Unsorted category all the way at the very bottom, but for some reason mine show up at the bottom of my last sorted category.
    # DO NOT CLICK THE UPPER-RIGHTMOST X to close this group of tabs. This will close ALL of your tabs in all groups, currently visible or not. At least it asks if you're sure first. Instead, click your new Tab Groups button to return to the Boxes 'O Thumbnails window, and click the X in the group box you just bookmarked.
    # Click on another thumbnail to repeat the process with another group, or click on a thumbnail in the big default box to return to the original FF window. You can also click the Tab Groups button at the upper right, or Ctrl+Shift+E, which will also get you ''into'' the Boxes 'O Nails window ''from'' FF.
    # So now when you reopen FF after shutdown, simply select your folder from your Bookmarks and Open All in Tabs. '''Just like paulbruster said. '''
