Groups-Enable Group Mailing List

I just upgraded from Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server to Mac OS X 10.8.3 Server. I had an Employee Mailing List working under Mac OS X 10.6.8, but can't seem to get the new Group Mailing List to work that was created in Groups in Mac OS X 10.8.3.
When trying to send an email to the group "[email protected]" I get the message "Cannot send message using the server".  I gave the group access to Mail but it still doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Yes, it works, but the Mail Overview still return Mailing Lists Stopped, and I don't know why...
This is the procedure:
- on server open terminal
- then use these commands
1) sudo touch /etc/postfix/aliases
2) sudo newaliases
3) sudo postfix reload
that's all!

That is very unusual. You might want to check with the mailing list administrator and see if anything has changed there. Is there anything unusual about the way you create and send these messages?

Hmph, obviously they haven't got the slightest clue what they're talking about. This might be true with a Windows machine, but there is no such virus on Macs. You can safely set this worry aside.

  • Not receiving mails directed towards my group manager's mailing list

    Hi,
I joined recently and used to receive mails directed towards all team members who report to my group manager(i.e. mails sent to [email protected]). But since last 2 weeks I am not receiving those emails. Can any of you help me to resolve this issue or please provide me with the pointers to whom I shall contact ? Thanks.

  • Cannot enable group mailing list

    Hi,
Running 10.5.2 server on Xserve, server acts as OpenDirectory master and Mail sever.
We have a normal mail service running fine, but trying to enable the "Mailing List" option for groups results in an error.
"Error of type eDSInvalidAttributeType (-14131) on line 733 of /SourceCache/WorkgroupManager/WorkgroupManager-319/Plugins/GroupAccounts/GroupB asicPluginView.mm"
Web service is enabled, and appears as the option for the dropdown "Enable services for this group on:", but even just choosing the server from the dropdown and attempting to save the config (without turning on any services) results in this error.
Can anyone help with what this means?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi,
In Mail service -> General -> ensure "Enable SMTP" is checked,
if you don't desire to send outgoing from clients then don't select any authentication methods in Mail Service -> Security -> SMTP,
In Mail service ->Mailing Lists ensure that "Enable server group mailing lists" is checked,
once that is done, per website -> Web Services ensure "Mailing List web archive" is checked if you want mail to appear on the website,
For each group ensure "Mailing list" is checked, and "Mailing List web archive" if you want the group email repository on the website.
At least one group member should have an email account or a Forward to email address for the mail to go somewhere, assuming Web archive is not selected.
Send an email to the group address at [email protected] and look in the SMTP log for teamsserver to receive the email and then forward to individual addresses.
    Hope this helps,
    Harry

  • Group Id mailing list technique

How to use group id technique (from selection screen) for shooting the mails to respective mail ids after occurrence of some event . I have used the method for sending the mails to respective ids by maintaining a custom table for mail ids, but now i have the requirement to use group id on selection screen. Can anyone please suggest me on this?

I have puzzled over this a just figured out why ours weren't working.
Some background...In WGM, all users have a primary group and other groups. The primary group is stored with the user record in the LDAP directory, the "other groups" entries are stored in the Groups container in the directory as a Member list for each group.
For WGM to list all users in a particular group, it must display the Member list from the Group and then search the Users container for all users with that group as their primary group. (you've probably noticed in the WGM group lists, primary group member are in italic and "other" group members are not)
I have found that when you enable the mailing list for that group, /usr/sbin/mailgroupexpander is not searching the Users container in the LDAP directory for members who have that group as their primary group, thus if no one in your group has that as apart of "Other Groups" no members will be added to the list, or in the case where all the members are primary members, the list isn't created.
To remedy the issue, you must add the group to the "other groups" list for each user. Unfortunately, this will cause your groups lists to show every member twice, unless you change their primary group to a group where you don't need a mailing list.

  • Group Mailing Lists and Email Addresses

    Howdy All,
    A couple of quick questions:
    1. When a Group mailing list is created does this create an equivalent Mailman mailing list (i.e. that would appear at the Mailman list URL)? I'm not so much concerned as to whether Groups uses Mailman behind the scenes just whether or not one could "further" admin the group mailing list through the admin interface.
    2. What happens when you have a username "x", a group name "x" (which I commonly used on other Unixes) with a mailing list (implictly named "x"), and a Mailman mailing list named "x" (what was created as a Mailman mailing list in Server Admin) and then you email x@serverDNSname? Because I often use the same user and groups names this could be quite common.
Thanks for any thoughts on these puzzles.
    Cheers,
    Ashley.

I am beginning to suspect a combination problem- i.e. bad converter and bad Admin Tools.
The 10.6 Mail Admin manual states that:
+In Workgroup Manager, enable the Mailing List service for each group you want to have a mailing list address.+
+The setting is located in the Basic group options in Workgroup Manager.+
However, I no longer have these options in Admin Tools. I had them in 10.5.8, but not in 10.6 or 10.62 tools. I took a screenshot of the basic tab in WM:
    Image: !http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t69/dunkelza/Screenshot2010-01-08at81609AM. jpg!
I checked the About Workgroup Manager menu item and got "Version 10.6.2 (361.2.1)"
So it appears that the update to 10.6 not only failed to convert the LDAP settings correctly and/or map them to the mail system; but, that the update also removed my ability to see this and fix it through the GUI.

  • How to create a group of e-mail addresses

    Hi,
I need to create a group of recipients (mailing list) using a list of e-mail addresses. I guess I need to use the Address Book, but I could not find the correct way to copy/paste the entire block of addresses. The only way I found was to insert each address, one by one. This drives me crazy because I have to insert some dozens of addresses. Any suggestions? Thanks

This would be an ideal use of Address Book's File > Import...
    From Address Book's help:
    To import contacts:
Export addresses from another application in a supported format.
Before exporting tab-delimited or CSV files, you may want to note the order of the information fields. If the file doesn’t contain labels, you can refer to your notes to manually identify the fields in a later step.
If the application you’re exporting from supports it, export vCards that include multiple contacts to speed up importing. For example, in Outlook select all of your contacts and choose to forward them as vCards. Send the email message, which includes a vCard attachment for each selected contact, to yourself on your Mac computer. In Mail, save the vCard attachments, and then use Address Book to import them.
Verify the exported .txt or CSV files using a text editor such as TextEdit.
Make sure there are no line breaks within a contact’s information, which can cause the import to fail. Remove any line breaks you find.
Make sure that fields in a .txt or tab-delimited file are separated by a tab, and fields in a CSV file are separated by a comma, instead of by quotation marks or another character. Do not include spaces before or after tabs and commas.
Make sure all addresses have the same number of fields; add empty fields as needed.
In Address Book, choose File > Import, select the file you want to import, change the encoding if necessary, and then click Open.
If you’re importing a text file, review the field labels Address Book will use for the information. You can change field labels, or choose to ignore or not import fields.
If the first card contains headers, review the headers to make sure they are correctly labeled or marked as “Do not import,” and make changes as necessary. Any changes you make to this card are made in all of the cards in the file. To exclude the headers card from being imported, select the “Ignore first card” checkbox.
Use the arrows to browse information in the file to determine if fields need to be relabeled or not imported.
To change a label, click the arrows next to the label and choose a new label from the pop-up menu. If you don’t want to import a field, choose “Do not import.”

  • Enable group mailing list in Server.app not working

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to enable a new (?) feature of Server.app : "Enable group mailing list". Until now, it does not work for me. When I try to send an email to the group [email protected], Mail tells me that the smtp server cannot send my message. Here is what I see on the server's /var/log/mail.log file :

Does any has any good/bad experience with group mailing lists under Mountain Lion Server ? Any advice ?
    Thanks a lot !

Hello Mark23 and thanks for your help !
The log says nothing particular when I (un)set the "Enable Group Mailing List Option". The only difference I see is a line saying mail_groups[127]: sleeping for: 1 hour(s). I have no idea what this means exactly. Googling it did not help me much either.
I post the /etc/aliases file below. Interesting : every time I (un)set the "Enable Group Mailing List" option, the /etc/aliases last access time changes. But the md5 hash of the file stays the same.
I guess that the "sudo newaliases" uses /etc/aliases to construct the binary database file /etc/aliases.db ? It seems that this script is run every time I (un)check the option since the access time of *both* /etc/aliases and /etc/aliases.db are changed to the current time.
Do you have any other option checked ?
Here is my /etc/aliases (I removed the blocks of comments at the beginning and at the end):

  • Enable server group mailing list

I am try to figure out why I cannot get the server group mailing list to work. I have a group called testgroup in my OD and have 4 users added to it. I restarted the server after I ticked the box "enable server group mailing list" in Mail/settings/Mailing list and when I send an email to testgroup the mail client rejects the address. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is create a group email account.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    HI John,
The group settings in WGM SL and Leopard are different.
Yes, they are. I booted to my eval copy of SL Server and ran through the settings in WGM, Server Admin and Server Preferences; as you pointed out, all the mail list admin tools I could find are in the Mail service in Server Admin.
The only thing that may be of interest that I could find is that for the group mail list, the email address for the group is group_shortname@ServerDNSname, not groupshortname@yourdomain (this is in the Mail Services Admin Guide for 10.6). This might explain why your email to the group may have been rejected?

  • OD Group members not synchronized to mailing lists

We have some Groups in the SLS OD that we configured as wikis to distribute Dokuments to the members. Last year the configuration of the wiki vanished from the workgroup manager and I think since then the members of the groups were no longer synced with the mailing lists.
    This is what I tried:
I looked after /etc/aliases and found it was an old version (it misses new members and has old ones).
So I looked where it was built from and found /Library/Application Support/Apple/mailinglists/mailinglists.plist. If I delete this file it is rebuild but with the old accounts.
So I think there is missing a actual synchronisation between the OD and the mailinglists.plist file. But how it is done?

    Hi ,
SharePoint 2010 permission group cannot have email address but AD Security Group can.
If you want to make your AD Group and members address are created, you may want to use the PowerShell like Set-mailbox “MailboxAddress” -EmailAddressPolicyEnabled $true to enable "Automatically update e-mail addresses based on e-mail address
policy", here are two articles about this.
    http://johnyassa.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/disable-automatically-update-e-mail-addresses-based-on-email-address-policy/
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123981.aspx
And for more questions about the AD user and Exchange mail address, you can post in Exchange server forum and be able to get a better assistance there,

  • Creating mail enabled groups

    Hello,
I read information about the IDM driver for GW and it is stated that it uses
GW Admin API. If the IDM driver can create a DL by using the GW Admin API,
then we should be able to do the same. I have read part of documentation
from the GW Admin API and found something that might be related to DL
creation. I have pasted below some information. It is taken from document
gwadmenu.pdf from the GW Admin API page 18. Can this be used to create a DL

  • Built in Approval workflow can't send to AD univeral security mail enabled group (email recipient not valid)

Background: SP2010 SP2 with March 2015 CU installed. Using the built-in Approval - SharePoint 2010 workflow on a library. The Approval workflow does send email to individual users when users are specified in the Approvers field instead of a group. We
need to use a group. The workflow reports the error email recipients are not valid. I don't see anything in ULS logs. The Exchange server tracking logs do not show the emails to the AD group being processed (no evidence they are even received into Exchange,
but all other mail from SharePoint goes through, including the workflow's email to the workflow initiator). I can send email to the AD group from Outlook and all group members get it.
To send Approval workflow email to a mail enabled AD Universal Security group, what
    exactly are the requirements?
Q1. Does the SharePoint\system account (aka web app pool account) *absolutely* need to have a mailbox?
If so, I need some clarification. I saw
http://www.spdev.info/2012/11/using-security-groups-with-workflows.html which was offered as a solution in another post. It says "To allow SharePoint to email the mail enabled security group you need to either create a mailbox for the SharePoint service
account, or attach the email address provided in the Outbound Email Settings as an additional email alias for a mailbox." Then it says you need to do *both* - create a mailbox for service account *and* add the outbound email settings address as an alias
in the *service account's* mailbox settings. Well, we can't do the latter. We are using a dedicated AD account with a mailbox for SharePoint mail settings purposes, and no two mailboxes can have the same alias.
I tried adding the AD account specified in the Reply From: outbound email settings (Reply To: is set to a distribution list) to the AD group's "Message Delivery Restrictions" and UNchecking Require that all senders are authenticated (even
though the AD account does authenticate). I tried allowing All Senders and UNchecking Require authentication (though that leaves email address open to spammers), but neither worked.
Q2. Does the AD mail enabled group need to be synchronized via User Profile Sync?
We currently only sync users. I do see the AD groups (we use AD groups into SharePoint groups security model) in SharePoint's People and Groups, and the mail address for the mail enabled group is *not* present in the properties. Is it a requirement to sync
the AD groups so that the email address shows in the AD group's properties in SharePoint?
The AD group is in a SharePoint group with Approve permissions. The individual AD group members are also in another AD group in a SharePoint group with Contribute permissions. I even placed myself in the AD group to test whether permissions issues; I am
farm admin. All SharePoint groups are set to allow Everyone to read the group's members.
    This is driving me crazy.
    Thanks,
    Joan

    Hello Victoria,
Thank you. I have an update. I got the workflow working. Turned out to be two separate unrelated issues:
    (1) invalid email address for recipient was because the email address of AD group was not present in SharePoint's properties for group. Also why nothing appeared in Exchange Server tracking logs; the email was never sent from SharePoint. Once this was remedied
(explained below), the Task Assigned email was sent out to the AD group.
    (2) the Task Assigned email was rejected by Exchange for reason 550 5.7.1 RESOLVER.RST.AuthRequired. The Exchange tracking logs clearly showed this. Setting the AD group's properties Mail Flow Settings, Message Delivery Restrictions to "Only senders
in the following list: <the domain account of the email address specified in SharePoint outgoing email Reply From setting>" and UNchecking "Require that all senders are authenticated" allowed the Task Assigned email to go through.
Answer to Q1: It is not required for System account (aka web app pool account) to have a mailbox when the SharePoint outgoing mail settings Reply From email address is of a domain account of the domain SharePoint is in. That is our scenario, as I noted we
use a domain service account dedicated for SharePoint mail. I can't speak to other scenarios. The Reply To: does not have to be the same email address; we use a distribution list. And, ever paranoid about spamming because of unchecking require autenticated
senders, I verified that my own account could not send email to the group (Outlook provides message "You do not have permission to send to: <GroupName>").
Answer to Q2: I did not have to sync groups via User Profile Service. What I did do, however, was remove the AD group from SharePoint, People and Groups, Groups list, and readd it. (Note: what I *literally* did was was remove the SharePoint group from all
permissions, remove the AD group from the SharePoint group, then remove the AD group from the Groups list, readd the AD group into the SharePoint group, and reassign permissions to the SharePoint group - Read to top-level site, Read to subsite (has unique
permissions), and Read, Approve to the subsite library with the workflow. In order to start clean. When I readded the AD group to the SharePoint group, it came in with an email address; email address now shows in the group's SharePoint properties. I noticed
that the format was GroupName instead of Domain\GroupName. (I had originally created the AD group as a Global Security group, added it to a SharePoint group, *then* (after I found out about that requirement when first troubleshooting workflow) converted it
to Universal and mail enabled it.
I suppose, would syncing groups would fix this issue of SharePoint not updating AD group changes?
Additional note: I first gave the AD group Read to the library directly instead of giving Read to the SharePoint group, tried the workflow, and the email was sent. I then removed the AD group's direct permissions to the library and added the SharePoint group
to the library and that also worked. So I was able to use the AD group in SharePoint group (I had read in one post that would not work).
    Thanks,
    Joan

    Hi,
I have used the group mailing list feature and the group web service maillist archive.
In both cases the Mail service must be running. I set up the General panel to Enable POP and IMAP because I have users on those services. I did not Enable SMTP because I used my ISP for outgoing. I don't think you need IMAP or POP for teamsserver mail because no mailbox is created for that user by cyrus or postfix.
In the Relay panel set to accept SMTP relays from 127.0.0.1 and your server IP.
Use junk mail rejection from zen.spamhaus.org
In the Mailing lists panel Enable server group mailing list.
In the Advanced panel -> Hosting ensure you have a local host alias set for your groups domain.com
Group mailing list can be setup in WGM with Enable Mailing list for the group.
Group Mailing list web archive will only work when wiki/blogs are setup for the group.

  • How to create a group mailing list in JavaMail?

    Hello,
I've been searching through the entire API, specifically the InternetAddress class and I can't seem to find out how to create a group/mailing list. Does anyone know how to do this?
That is, I would like to be able to group a bunch of e-mail addresses together and give that group a name "my friends". Then send it off using this 'group mail address' as opposed to an array of InternetAddress[]. Then when the recipients receive the e-mail, they see "my friends" in the To: field, instead of everyone's e-mail address...
Is this possible in JavaMail? I've tried many things like creating an InternetAddress object passing in a comma-delimited list of e-mail addresses but it doesn't like it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi:
I have the same problem. I've read JavaMail implements RFC 822 which allow mailing lists. But, how can I implement it with JavaMail?
