GroupWise 7.0 on 3 machines
Im planning to migrate my GroupWise 6.5 on netware 5.1 to GroupWise 7.0 oes2 (1500 users in one location).
But at the same time id like to move the current system from one server to three machines.
I decided to put
on the 1st machine - domain and MTA and the first PostOffice and POA
on the 2nd machine - second PostOffice
on the 3rd machine - GWIA and WEBACCESS
Is this a good solution or should i do it in some other way?
In one of the Novell documents i found a hint that i should have at least 2 domains (1 primary and 1 secondary) and i should put PostOffices under secondary domain and that primary domain should be only used for administrative purposes.
I need some advice.
Thanks in advance
Yes you should have 2 domains (primary and secondary). This gives you
redundancy and you can rebuild the primary from the secondary in case
of corruption.
Take your choice on which server to put it on. I normally put a
secondary domain on GWIA/WA server.
An advantage of putting the WA/GWIA on a different server is that when
you upgrade WA you have to take ALL the GW agents down on that server
as well as apache/java. With your POs on different servers users will
not see this down time, other than maybe seeing incoming email slightly
delayed.

Mac compatibility with 'Novell Groupwise' PC network
Hi all
I'm currently working on a PC, but my company is 'looking into' buying me and my colleague Macs (We're the Graphic Designers for a large organisation).
I've worked on Macs for 15+ years. However, the company uses 'Novell Groupwise' for all its e-mails and network stuff.
They are very nervous about Macs, and wouldn't want one on the network, which would make sending/receiving e-mails and printing to network printers next to impossible!
We could use a USB printer, but we also have large format stuff, which is network only.
Does anyone have any experience of using a Mac on a Novell network?
I'd welcome any information, as I would like to be able to have some definitive stuff to go to the bosses with to try to convince them that Macs aren't poisonous and likely to infect the rest of the system!Hi Mikey.
First: sorry for my bad english
After years i work with a MacMini in a PC Network organisation.
Our mail server is a Novell Groupwise 7.x.
I have 3 choices:
1. Groupwise client 7.0.3 (a Java client similar to PC Client).
2. Groupwise web Access (web client)
3. PC Groupwise client in a virtual machine with VMWare or Parallel.
My MacMini is a 1gb machine and my light solution is 2.
Unlikely GWclient doesn't support notifications.
I'm in network and smb connection works well.
So.. i support our graphics minds all in mac.
In august is my first birthday with mac at work
Hope this can help you.

Groupwise 8.02 client crashes in lion
I have recently migrated files and settings from a macbook snow leopard to a macbook air lion.
I have installed Groupwise client on the new machine. It loads fine but crashes repeatedly when I try to open a mail item. It connects to the internet and I can create and send mail just cannot physically open mail.
I have deleted any and all com.novell files I could find in the System folder/Home folder Library etc. I have tried starting up in Safe Mode but no luck.
BUT I can run Groupwise with no problems on the original macbook with the same settings AS WELL AS on the new machine under another user account.
Any ideas on what I can do to repair whatever is wrong with my admin user account?
Thanks very much!Steve544c wrote:
Our company has a number of people using Blackberry RIM devices. We're in the process of rolling out Novell's latest release of their Client software (version 8, Service Pack 2), HOWEVER, after upgrading the GroupWise Client, the "Desktop Manager" software no longer syncs.
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You have to start there...as per this KB, there is no DTM version that is compatible with that GroupWise version. Indeed, why it worked before (8.1) is a mystery...it should never have.
Good luck!

GroupWise Client 2012 SP2 & Windows 8.1 64bit & addressbook
Hello.
On one Win 8.1 Prof. 64bit worksation I've got several problem with GW Client 2012 SP2 Build 115186.
Under Tools -> Options -> Security I've error messages from WMS "No version of serviceprovider of the personal Groupwse addressbook available (Sorry for that worse translation, the german version is installed).
The addressbook don't have access to the personal and the Systemaddressbook
Some HTML-messages don't work (Page not found)
Links in E-Mails don't work (No application found)
On the machine also MSO 2010 Prof. 32bit is installed (Outlook included)
I suppose, that the WMS isn't installed on the machine. Reparing the programs not solved the problem.
Any ideas to solve the failures?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Best regards.

Some basics.
1. Under no circumstances should wms.exe from groupwise be installed on
a machine that has Outlok installed. Sometimes this can happen
nevertheless, and cause havoc to both programs.
2. If you install Outlook and Groupwise on the same machine, Outlook has
to be installed first.
This, however should have no influence on your HTML issues. Can you give
more details?

Hardware, drivers, bios. Speaking of drivers, yours are utterly
outdated. Please reapply SP5 (or better yet, apply SP6 plus post SP6
patches), and make absolutely sure to aoolw it to update drivers. Then
install the latest HP support pak for netware. You may also download the
latest firmware CD for your server from HP, and apply that too. If that
stil doesn't help, then you most likely have a hardware problem.

Migrating to new server: advice! :)
Hi!
My current GroupWise 2012 SP2 server is a SuSE 10 SP4 and I need to migrate to a new server!
I currently have 5% disk space left and have ordered additional drives, but while I'm going through the hassle and word is Windemere is not going to be supported on SuSE 10, I've decided to set-up and configure a new server.
This is my plan (this is my first migration) so any suggestions, advice, LOOKOUT FORs, would be welcome with open arms!
The current GroupWise server is a virtual machine on XenServer 6.1 with a NAS attached.
After I install the addition drives, here is my plan of attack:
1. Start up a new SuSE 11 SP2 server.
Notes: The old GroupWise server had a 20 GB disk allocated: 502 MB for /boot and 17.4 GB for / and 2.0 swap
GroupWise files are mounted at /var/opt/novell/groupwise with a 750 GB allocation (it's 83 Linux native).
I think I will double that (40 GB allocation) for room to grow.
Question: What would you recommend LVM or NSS for the partition that will hold GroupWise?
(I will have about 2 TB to work with).
2. Install GroupWise on the new server with the same po/domain name as 'old' server?
3. Install eDirectory on the new server and bring it into a new tree.
4. Perform a Gwava Reload migration.
5. Shutdown eDirectory on 'old' server, backup and restore on new server, then shutdown old server, reboot new server after modifying server name & IP to match old server.
6. Run DSRepair to insure new server is in sync.?
Comments welcome! StanMaybe you can do the follow, if you have a small downtime.
1 .Stop GW, make a "chkconfig grpwise off", change IP of the server, reboot and configure the old IP as a secondary(with yast). Then you can start GW again(and "chkconfig grpwise on)".
2. Install a new server with a new name and new IP in the tree.
3. Install the GW-Agents on the new server and copy the config-files (*.poa,*.mta, web?, gwia?, /etc/opt/novell/...gwha.conf) from the old server, and "chkconfig grpwise off"
4. In XEN you can expand the 750GB VOL and then the ext3 or you create a new VOL in XEN and mount it on the same place (/var/opt/novell/groupwise) BACKUP before expand !!
5. If you have a new VOL make simply a rsync to the new VOL, online for the first time
6. Online-Rsync(with delete-option) you can make ever day to see the consumed time, you can use also dbcopy, but this didnt delete old files
7. On Day X you stop GW on old server, make a final rsync (or dbcopy, if you like)
8. remove secondary IP from old server and configure this IP as a secondary to the new server.
9. start GW (if you use gwmonitor its easy to configure it new with the install of GW)
Similar "IP-mechanism" use a GW-Cluster.
In XEN you can make (or you have) a separate network to check this after the first rsync. Switch the server to this network, give the seconday IP and start GW and check the gw-logs and/or start GW with X-Window, if you have runlevel 5 or xming.
Because you have today > 750GB you should think about a second Postoffice, because the handling of big volumes(Backup, Snapshot,...)
That you can make after moving to the new server. Simply build a 2. GW-Server, create a second PO with C1 (or you wait to windermere ??) and move some user.
A Client with the old IP that moved on the new PO is automatically redirected.

Sharing a groupwise calendar through iCal
I use an iPhone for my work but our appointments and mail are managed through groupwise. While my groupwise calendar syncs fine with iCal, the problem I'm having is that there is no "share" option in iCal for me to share that calendar with my partner. I can share any other calendar but not that one. Any ideas??
Thanks in advance...
WIVery clear question, but it doesn't look like there's a good answer for you. The MobileMe entries are "all or nothing" - each machine synced to that one account would receive ALL of the subscribed calendars.
Note that you could always choose to disable (i.e. not view) the calendars which you don't want to see, within iCal, just be unchecking them in the list. So, your display would enable your calendars, including the shared entry; and her display would enable only her calendars, including the shared entry. The others would still exist on each machine, but they wouldn't clutter your iCal display, if you didn't want them to.
Outside of that, the only want to have multiple editors for a shared calendar would be to use a 3rd party product such as Spanning Sync - see http://www.spanningsync.com/. I hope that helps… -
GroupWise client reports that there is no Default Mail Clien
Installation of GroupWise client reports that there is no default mail client. On clicking OK the next error: "The 'MAPI Session Handle' of the Novell GroupWise 'Object Request Broker' could not be accessed. The address book cannot run.
In our company we use GroupWise 7 on a mix of Windows XP Pro and A few Windows 7 Pro machines. On all machines where the GroupWise 7 client with hot patch 4 (HP4) was installed everything works fine along with other installed applications with a specific mention of MS Office 2003 or even MS Office 2010.
This morning (August 9, 2011) a new Windows 7 machine was deployed to a new Database Administrator. It was this machine that had these errors. The machine was deployed from a disk image.
The problem was baffling because we never experienced this problem on the other Windows 7 machines and un-installing and re-installing GroupWise even with Administrator privileges did not solve the problem.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, the bottom line is this: Don't trust an installation made by someone else even if they are Database Administrators! (Our IT dept consists of an IT Operations section and a Developers Section).
The installation of Microsoft Office by the IT Operations crew never includes the Microsoft office OutLook client. This installation had it included and that was what was causing the whole problem.
The Solution: Simply use the Microsoft Office installation to remove the Microsoft Office Outlook client and the problem went away immediately. We did not have to remove and re-install GroupWise after that was done.
Hope this helps someone.Kenlobo <[email protected]> wrote:

Repacking Groupwise using AdminStudio Repackager
Hi,
I wonder if anyone has encounter this before. I'm trying to repacking groupwise client 8.02 into a MSI so i could push via ZCM.
Used 2 clean WinXP SP2 and SP3 guest machine to repackaged (AdminStudio Standalone Repackager) the groupwise installer. No error during repackaging.
However when i run the msi file on one of the test machine, error 1935 appear at the very end of the installation thus forcing it to rollback. The error seems to be pointing to problem with MSMXL.

GroupWise 8 + Outlook 2013 on the same PC (headaches)
So I have a problem that's been making me pull my hair out and was hoping someone could offer some advice.
OS - Windows 7 Professional x64 (all Windows Updates installed)
GroupWise version - 8
I have a user (who is a local admin on that machine) who is unable to properly run GroupWise. He simply gets the "GroupWise is not properly installed" error when he tries to open the client. I have found that I can go to the Control Panel, select the "Mail (32-bit)" option, and remove every information service entry from that list, and then I can open GroupWise again. One time. Once I close GW, it gives that same "GroupWise is not properly installed" message.
I've seen this in the past where GW and Outlook don't like to be on the same machine (most of the problems in those cases being related to the address book and GW insisting that I create an Outlook profile). My fix has always been to simply "custom" install MS Office and exclude Outlook, since we don't actually use Outlook. For the most part, that has always worked like a champ. However, to the best of my knowledge, Office 2013 is an "all or nothing" thing that doesn't allow you to do a custom install, so I end up with a machine that's going to have both installed.
Am I doing something wrong? I typically install Office first, then the GroupWise client, make sure GroupWise is set for all its defaults, and I'm good to go. But this is the first time I've dealt with Outlook 2013 and GW on the same machine. Is there a more proper way to make GroupWise 8 behave when it's on the same machine as Outlook 2013? I've just got this particular user running with WebAccess until I can get it figured out. Since we're going to be doing a lot more Office 2013 installations in the near future, I'd like to get this figured out and not have to deal with it again.Hm...somehow, in all the searching I did on this, I managed to miss that. Didn't notice that there was a difference between click-to-run and the actual disc and thought the custom install wasn't even an option.
Thanks. I'll try the download/burn a disc option and see if I can get it to work that way. I believe I'll be in good shape if I can just do a custom install of MS Office and not be forced to install Outlook with it. Most of the issues seem to come from GW/Outlook being installed on the same machine. -
Groupwise 8.0.2 error and crashing
Hello all,
I'm having a problem with groupwise and I can use some advice. A user of mine is having an issue when she composes new mail she switches from plain text view to HTML view and GW either crashes or it freezes, and a error message appears. I thought it was a local profile issue so I re created the profile and it still didnt fix it. In addition I upgraded from GW 7 to GW 8 and the issue still remains. This is an XP machine. I only happnes on thius machine, I tried another XP machine right next to it and it switched views from plain to HTML no problem. Im not sure if the user tinkered with some settings or what.

Hi,
Just a suggestion, before doing the whole uninstall/reinstall, simply try a reset on IE: Tools | Internet Options | Advanced | Reset (bottom right-hand corner).
Cheers,
Hey Laura and Bob,
For some reason that is grayed out. Im logged on as my administrator account and its still grayed out. My next step was to be logged as Administrator as in with the username administrator. I actually got it working now thanks for your help guys. I did the reinstall and I uninstalled additional browsers like chrome, safari and firefox. I will add them back when Im with the user after she sees it working again. I also disabled all the toolbars and add on (like snag it) in IE.
I'm so glad I came to this forums for ideas. Waiting for the guy that supports groupwise for my hospital would have been a lost cause. I'll be coming here for my groupwise issues from now on.....THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!! -
LDAP Error on part of Groupwise Installation ...
Hi!
First: sorry for my english, its not often in use :-)
I try to install a fresh NLSBS 9 server. All available updates are
installed by redcarpet. eDirectory installation works fine, with my windows
machine ldap and edirectory authentication are full functional.
Now the problem: if i try to install Groupwise with Yast, the YaST LDAP
Authentication page show the right IP adress, context and user - but
everytime i click on "next" there is an ldap authentication error. As shown
above, the ldap authentication with any external host is full functional -
what is the problem? Any tips? Any logfile where i can find error details?
many thanks

Outlook 2013 connecting to Groupwise 2012 any solution?
I have been looking for an answer to this question, I have a MS exec that has just been hired in a company that I support. He wants his calender and scheduling to work with the outlook 2013 client. They currently have a Groupwise 2012 sp2 server installed. I have looked, but have yet to find an answer.. I just love the MS pricks..

POP/IMAP is just for e-mail. It might be possible to install the
GW2012 client and OL2013 on the same machine, to where Outlook
essentially uses the GW2012 client as a "plugin" to talk to the GW
backend. This would give e-mail, calendar, and contact abilities to
Outlook.

Problem with Groupwise 7 and Adobe Reader/Microsoft Office products
We recently went to Groupwise to handle corporate external email (we've been using it for years for internal email). We've run into a little trouble. The first trouble is that we had to manually push out registry settings using ZENworks (changes we took were from the tool available at- http://tinyurl.com/2su3vt). We are having trouble now with emailing from a third party program.
For example, we've got many users who email a file using Adobe Reader.Using a "clean" VMWare machine, I install Groupwise (7.0.2 currently)and install Adobe Reader and try to send the email and it works.
When the users try to use it, though, it prompts them to use either"Novell Default Settings" or "Novell Groupwise." They can hit okay, and neither of them work. They get an error message and the message does not send.
If they try to send from Word or Excel, they get a similar message.
I'm led to believe that this is some sort of trouble with Windows Messaging, but I can't put my finger on it. So, here's what I've tried today - reinstalled wms and ran fixmapi.exe. Double checked to see that IE is the correct email program in IE.
Didn't work.
"Push out" application that assigns Groupwise as default email client.
Reinstalled Groupwise
Reinstalled Adobe Reader
Nothing... still is giving me an error in Reader "An error occurred while sending mail." Anyone experience similar trouble - especially with Adobe Reader (which has many important documents our users use to email).
Thanks in advance,
Brent Hanson--I'm experiencing the same exact problems. Were you able to find a resolution?

Do I need to unload the GroupWise agents if I am installing WebAccess on its own server?
Hi,
I ma installing GW Web Access into our GW703 tree and the install is prompting me to unload all agents on the machine to which I am installing.
As I am installing onto a separate server, I am assuming I can leave my PO, GWIA and MTA running?
Can someone confirm this before I proceed?
Thanks for your helpThanks!

Yes, the install means to unload all agents running on the server where
you are installing WebAccess. If all your agents are on other servers
you can leave them running.
