Growing Reader 8.1.2 Issue on XP

We're on Windows XP SP2 on very new PCs with no printer driver changes. The Reader version is now 8.1.2, and a simple, black and white 1 bit PDF file that took a few seconds to print before, now takes minutes to even send to the printer after the upgrade. (The last work station that upgraded this morning is now complaining of the exact same issue.) I've even tried removing my SOPHOS anti-virus to see if that's the issue - no change in Reader's print performance. All other applications print fine. I can't seem to troubleshoot the problem, but I believe it's something Adobe changed in 8.1.2. Any ideas?

After updating to 8.1.2 from 8.1.1 the program will not open. I deleted 8.1.2 and installed reader 7. That would not open. I tried to restore the OS to a date before the update but it did not work. I removed all adobe reader programs including from the register. I then re-installed reader 8.1.2 but it will not open from the short cut or from the explorer. I have 8.1.1 on my laptop and it has no problem. I had no problem before the updating. Help

  • Adobe Reader 9.1.3 Issues with browser viewing and printing

    I have several users reporting issues after upgrading to Adobe Reader 9.1.3
    Issue #1:  User tries to open a PDF on a bank website using Adobe 9.1.3 but receives an error stating file could not be found.  Adobe 9 was uninstalled and Adobe 6 re-installed.  The file on the bank website was then viewable without issue.
    Issue #2:  Different user successfully opens pdf on a different bank website, but is unable to print while viewing in browser using Adobe 9.1.3.  User had to save file to desktop and reopen locally to print from Adobe 9.1.3.   Uninstalling 9.1.3 and re-installing Adobe 6 allowed them to print from the browser successfully.
    Issue #3:  turning off "View in Browser" causes the error "File cannot be found" when trying to view a PDF on a website.  This appears to be happening on sites external to our network, but not on internal sites.  Turning on "View in Browser" corrects the problem.
    Any assistance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated!

    To clarify my previous post, I had already seen http://forums.adobe.com/message/1770581 .  I mentioned in my post that I get the message "Preview not supported" when I click the Preview button from the print dialog in Adobe Reader, and thus concluded that the "Preview" workaround discussed in that thread wasn't helping me.
    However, re-reading that post, they were talking about using the Mac "Preview" application to print the pdf file.  Like every other application (other than Reader) I have tried, the Mac's Preview application prints just fine, and is another workaround.
    The only program that doesn't print for me is Adobe Reader.
    BTW, I also have an Intel chip in my MacBook Pro.
    Re-installing Leopard, as suggested by one post in that thread, is not a reasonable option for this problem.
    In fact, since Preview allows me to view and print .pdf's , my solution is probably just going to be not to use Adobe Reader.  In fact, had I not been new to the Mac, I would have known that I didn't need Adobe Reader at all.
    However, I'm glad this happened, in the sense that I use CS3 on the PC, and had considered moving to CS4 on the Mac.  However, since Adobe apparently hasn't figured out how to get printing to work on a Mac from their flagship product (!), I will be sure to do a lot of testing of CS4 before considering buying the upgrade.

  • Okay, I have read some of the issues here

    Okay, I have read some of the issues here and I am scratching my head. I have my PC hard wired to a Linksys WRT G router and my Mac is connected wirelessly to it just fine. Now, my computers don't seem to see each other on the network. Pretend I am a a complete novice and step me through telling me how to network to share the CD files, documents and pics that I have on my PC with my MAC.
    I have the sharing enabled on both the MAC and the PC and I had this working at one point but something went haywire and all was lost. I have since reset my router and re-established the wireless connection between the PC and MAC.
    When I click on the Finder and click on Network, my PC is no longer in there like it was before.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank,
    Dave

    I'm just getting setup myself. Is your mac sensing the wireless network? And if so can you surf and check your email on the mac wirelessly?

  • Can' t read disk label, install issues

    can' t read disk label, install issues
    i am trying to install solaris 8 on a sparc5 (256mb, 4.2gb,110mhz). i initially installed using the installation disk and it seemed successful as i was able to load the rest of the cds. something went wrong though b/c the system is stuck in a rebooting loop after it finished the last cd. so i went searching and found that i could only have a root partition of no bigger than 1gb. since i used the installation disk, i was not given an option to specify slice sizes. so now, i am trying to redo the install starting from the first disk (1 of 2) and skipping the installation disk. when i do a "boot cdrom" with the 1 of 2 disk, i get the cant read disk label or something about short entry and it will not boot. i am using actual Solaris 8 cds and not downloads. what can i do to get it to boot up from the first disk, or fix the partitioning on the disk?

    I am using the offical Solaris 8 Installation 2/02 for SPARC Platform Edition for Sun Computer Systems February 2002, Revision A

  • I am having issues with 360 degree rotation, I have an iPhone 5 and ios 6.0.2. I have read alot about this issue online and I found out that my issue is software. I want to know if and when apple will fix this issue?

    I am having issues with 360 degree rotation, I have an iPhone 5 and ios 6.0.2. I have read alot about this issue online and I found out that my issue is software. I want to know if and when apple will fix this issue?

    I had the same experience with a new iPhone 5 that I bought  last week. Did not have a chance to measure battery life before the 6.0.2 upgrade installed but I set up my phone exactly like my 4S and immediately started running out of power after short periods. Went to Xmas get together with fully charged 5 and 4S. Heading home the iPhone 5 shut down for low battery and the 4S had 65% power. Both phones had two half phone calls on then and no data usage.
    That night I fully charged the iPhone 5 and, without lighting it up, put it on my night table. Next morning I picked it up and looked at battery indicator and I had 42% charge with NO activity!
    Tried it again next night and wound up with 37% charge. (Slept longer).
    Today I called the carrier and reactivated the 4S.  Took the 5 to Apple Store and they kindly gave me choice of new replacement phone or refund. I took the refund. Uniquely, the Apple Store said it was Verizon CDMA phones that were coming back.
    The are other strings on this with temporary solutions, but from my experience with 7 firmware changes on an HTC 4G phone the problem will continue because the solution will be hardware caused. We are in the days where RTM means Rush to Market - not Release To Manufacturing.
    I fear the only solution is to either wait for the next model (I did not notice a really major change in performance over the 4S in LTE heavy Seattle area) - or switch to another manufacturer.
    It might be useful for these forums to indicate if you have a GSM or CDMA phone to see which have more problems.
    Discouraged....

  • Is the Time Capsule wi-fi router compatible with the Nest thermostat? I've read where there are issues with the Nest and Airport Extreme (AE)? Is AE used in the Time Capsule?

    I've read where there are issues with the Nest and Airport Extreme (AE)? Is AE used in the Time Capsule?
    If so, i already have a wi-fi router, so can the Time Capsule simply be used for wireless backup instead of as a router if there is conflict?

    A TC is fundamentally a AE with a sata chip included to drive the hard disk. Some slightly different bios to include disk functions, although most of those are also on the AE. So as a router it is 99.999% identical.
    And yes, if you have another router you can easily bridge the TC and use wireless for backups and internet connection. Once you no longer route through the TC the issues with most NAT problems including port forwarding should disappear.. mostly this is due to all apple routers using NAT-PMP instead of upnp which is the near universal standard for opening ports.. without upnp apple keep their routers more exclusive.

  • HT4356 My iPad does not see my printer on the network.  The printer says it is connected and I can ping it from my pc, but the iPad does not seem to be able to find it.  I am going though an AOL supplied router, I have read this can cause issues, is this

    I am trying to print from my iPad to a HP 3520 printer using AirPrint. I have connected the printer to my local wireless network and it confirms it is connected. However my iPad can not find the printer on the network when it searches for it.  I am using an AOL supplied router and have read reports that this can cause problems.  Is this the case? How do I resolve this issue?

    Hi,
    That indeed can be caused by a router as Apple's AirPrint uses Bonjour to communicate with the device.
    Bonjour Services relies on IP Multicasting which have to be supported by your network.
    To isolate the problem, please follow the steps below to enable Wireless Direct and directly connect the iPad to your printer (which means without using the router).
    Once the iPad connected to the Wireless Direct network try printing and check for any difference.
    If the printer can be found via the temporary connection but not through your router that indicates lack of Multicast support or wrong configuration of your router.
    In such a case be sure to contact AOL and check if the router support Multicasting, if so ensure it is enabled within your router configuration, as well ensure it have the latest firmware installed..

  • Error when reading a RCDC (permission issue)

    Hello,
    I have created a MPR to grant right for a specific set (set 1) of user to read somes attributes (DisplayName) of a specific set of objects (set 2).
    For you information this set contains in fact all objects of a custom type.
    I have created a RCDC for viewing this object.
    In a first time the XML template of this RCDC contains only a control for the DisplayName attribute.
    <my:Control my:Name="DisplayName" my:TypeName="UocLabel" my:Caption="{Binding Source=schema, Path=DisplayName.DisplayName}" my:Description="{Binding Source=schema, Path=DisplayName.Description}" my:RightsLevel="{Binding Source=rights, Path=DisplayName}">
    <my:Properties>
    <my:Property my:Name="Text" my:Value="{Binding Source=object, Path=DisplayName, Mode=OneWay}" />
    </my:Properties>
    </my:Control>
    When I try to read the object with a user belonging to the set 1, I meet the error below. However if I modify my MPR to grant right on all attributes, I am able to read the RCDC. This is why I think the error is related to a permission issue.
    Error page on the FIM web portal:
    Unable to process your request.
    Please contact your help desk or system administrator.

    Does anyone have an idea of a way to solve this issue? Thank you ;)
    Regards,
    Serge

    Finally, I found the solution. I had to add ObjectID in the list of attributes in the MPR.
    If the user can't read the object id, he will not able to read the RCDC.

  • [SOLVED] Root mounted as "Read-only filesystem". mkinitcpio issue?

    I am currently in the middle of setting up system encryption with LUKS. I have been making good progress so far, but I do have one remaining issue.
    After typing my LUKS password, the Linux kernel starts to complain that root is a read-only filesystem. "Starting NetworkManager... cannot touch file XYZ: Read-only filesystem". When it has finally finished booting, I am dropped into a TTY. I can log in and cat my files, but I cannot write to any files our use any programs that do (like pacman).
    I wonder if this is an mkinitcpio issue, but I am not sure. For whatever it's worth, here's my basic setup:
    * /dev/sda1: Boot
    * /dev/sda2: Swap
    * /dev/sda3: Root (LUKS/ext4)
    * menu.lst looks like this
    * /etc/fstab contains this line:
    /dev/mapper/root / ext4 defaults 0 1
    * /etc/mkinitcpio.conf contains these lines:
    MODULES="ext4"
    HOOKS="base udev pata scsi sata encrypt filesystems"
    edit: I should note that I did reinstall the kernel after making those edits to mkinitcpio.conf.
    Any idea what I'm doing wrong? As always, I really do appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

    So it looks like this major problem was caused by a minor mistake. The file /etc/rc.sysinit was not executable. This made it impossible for the kernel to run the script, which in turn made it impossible for the kernel to mount /dev/sda2 (the swap partition) at /dev/mapper/swap. For some unknown reason, this in turn caused /dev/sda2 to be mounted at /, messing everything up.
    Anyway, a simple sudo chmod +x /etc/rc.sysinit fixed the problem. Thanks for the help, MadTux!

     Dear Adobe people ...
    This is a user-to-user forum; you do not address Adobe staff here.
    The original post was about an installation on a beta version of Windows 7, which was not supported at the time.
    If you have a problem with a different version of Adobe Reader on a different version of Windows 7, please open a new topic.
    I'd gladly address Adobe staff directly about it if they didn't make it so difficult to do so but there are notices galore on their website restricting the ways of doing so for this particular product. That said, I accept that they may not review these posts and act on bugs found (although why is beyond me, I know if I was a developer of software and I wanted it to be top quality, I'd be looking everywhere I can for sources of bugs having been found and I certainly wouldn't make it any more difficult than an ordinary bug submission on any other software to report it).
    It's clear to me that the problem originally posted about that shows up in Win 7 RC, is still present in the latest software and popping its ugly head up under Win 7 RTM. If they'd nipped it in the bud back then it should be fixed by now - that's annoying. I've been using online forums for a long time and I know it's always a good idea to search for a solution or similar thread and post in that if present, rather than opening an entirely new thread. As the bug is the same, the Adobe software version is very similar and the OS is just an earlier non-RTM version and there are no set forums for bugs within specific RTM vs RC/Beta OS's I posted here.
    I'm not going to start a new thread because if, as you say there's no addressing of Adobe Staff here (and you haven't mentioned you have inside connections and will pass it on) what's the point? I will make one phonecall to Abobe in an effort to report this but there needs to be more open ways of bug reporting, even if it is a free product.

  • PDF file from Outlook folder created with Standard X not opened with Reader XI _ Flash issue ?

    Dear Community,
    I tried to fix this issue but i have to admit i'm stuck right now :
    Computer on windows 7 SP1 with Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Standard X installed.
    On Outlook 2010, I convert a folder to a PDF file so i can navigate offline and share the mails with colleagues.
    At the end of the conversion, Adobe Standard X opens and all the tree architecture of the PDf is available, browse in all files, open attached documents...
    But as soon as, on my computer or on other computer only with Reader XI, the PDF file (whatever it's size and number of mails inside) is to be opened with Reader, there's a message saying that flash player compatible with Adobe Reader and Acrobat as to be installed.
    There's no precision regarding the flash version to use, and clicking on the link to open web browser, no page is opened (no internet issue).
    After 1 minute, Reader finnally opens but only displaying the first file of the PDF (in my case the first mail of the outlook folder).
    i have the latest flash player version installed
    Can anybody tell me if this problem is known ? or if someone knows how to fix it so the pdf file can be fully used in Reader ??
    Many thanks for your help.

  • Adobe Reader X save location issue

    Hi All, i would like to seek expert helps on Adobe Reader save location issues. After we upgrade from Adobe Reader 9 to Adobe Reader X.
    There are changes on how save location works in Adobe Reader X
    If save PDF via Internet Explorer – the save location will according to last save location, HOWEVER
    If save PDF via Adobe Reader X – the save location will set according to location the file is being open
    Let me show you what i mean over the pictures
    I open a reader_X_help.pdf using Adobe Reader X and then save the file using Ctrl+Shift+S at: C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save
    refer my last save location.jpg
    Now i want to save another new file back to C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save, I open the file Adobe file2.pdf located at desktop and when i do Ctrl+Shift+S, the location point to my desktop and not C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save
    refer my last save location change to desktop.jpg
    I have tested this features in Adobe Reader 9 and it's different whereby it's will point according to my last location save.
    There is no issue with computer as i have 3 machine running different enviroment, Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 Enterprise, and all using same version of Adobe Reader X version 10.0.1.
    So my questions & concern:
    Is there any way to change the save location features same as Adobe Reader 9?
    If YES, how to do it? By Computer Changes or Adobe Reader X packages modification using Adobe Customization tools?
    If NO, Where can i find this source of documentation stated about this new changes so i can publish this information in HP website as new design changes to avoid complaint or negative feedback.
    Looking forward for expert reply as soon.
    Thank you very much and Have a great day.
    Best Regards

    Solved it!
    1-go to "edit", select Preferences.
    2-select from the left pane: Security (enhanced)
    3-click on "add folder path" button just below the big white box
    4-pick a folder of your choice and click "ok". (your selected folder path will appear in that white box above the "add folder path" button in step 3)
    5-if you want to add additional folders, just repeat steps 3 & 4
    6-once you are done, click "ok" on the preferences screen and click "ok" again to accept the changes.
    Yes, it seems illogical, but it worked.
    I tested by closing the Reader (X), then surfed the web and did what Neher5 was explaining he/she wanted to do just after opening a pdf from a website and lo-and-behold,  it worked!. No more "save to temp folder" issues.
    Hope this helps.

  • Reader 11.0.03 issue printing PDF in colour

    Trying to print a document (PDF) in colour with Reader 11.0.03 but only getting blank pages.
    Reader 11.0.03 can print the PDF in Black and white.
    The PDF has be tested on different machines all with the same issue.
    I can print the document using 10.1.4.
    The work around (print as image) does work with Reader 11.0.03 but the quality is not the same plus i dont want my customers to keep doing this and playing around with the dpi.
    So far this is the 1st PDF and only one to have this issue but i would like to get ahead of this before it becomes a major issue.
    The PDF was created with CS6.

    Hey McBlob,
    Thank for your reply.
    Yes this way also works much like print as image.
    But I guess what I am trying to find out is there a way so the user will not have to do this work around?
    Is this a known issue related with Adobe Reader or is this a once off issue?
    Is there something needs to be done during the creation of the PDF?

  • Adobe Reader X EULA agreement issues

    This has been commented on before, but I have a few other things to add we have seen at our company.
    Previous thread was http://forums.adobe.com/message/3791868
    Issue 1:
    Cannot open emailed pdf attachment or any PDF locally that contains the uppercase Letters "CR" in the title.
    Three workarounds:
    1. Have Adobe Reader opened first before opening the pdf file attachment.
    2. Save and rename the file—removing the uppercase CR.
    3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\FeatureLockDown]
    "bProtectedMode"=dword:00000001
    Options 1 and 2 are not a good solution for the mass public when you may have 100's of thousands of files that contain CR. Option 3 we cannot use because of a conflict with SAP software we use.
    Issue 2:
    Pdf document will not open and gives the EULA screen
    Resolution:
    Check to see if the client has the full version of Adobe Pro.
    If so, uninstall Adobe Reader X, using the Add/Remove Programs.
    A repair may also be needed on the Adobe Pro (use repair found in Add/Remove Programs for
    Adobe.)
    There may be a Adobe "Best Practices" article I missed, but this was the first major issue we had with clients running both Acrobat and Reader on the same computer.
    Is there any sort of patch expected from Adobe to correct these?

    We fixed this issue by installing patch 10.1.1. You can download this patch from Adobe’s FTP site: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.1/misc/ .
    The cause was that many of our auto-generated documents contained the “CR” in either the filename or pathname.
    Good luck fixing this issue!
