GT70 Turbo after GPU Upgrade

Hello,
I successfully upgraded my GT70 0ND from a GTX675mx to a GTX780m  . The new card is from MSI. Everything works fine, however, the only thing I noticed is that the TURBO button isn't working any more or to be more accurate, Sbar shows "Turbo on" and after some seconds "Turbo off". I guess that's a BIOS matter as the turbo clocks stored in it don't fit my new card's clocks cause they are specific to the GTX675mx. If I rembember correctly the default clock of the GTX780m is higher than the turbo clock of the GTX675mx. Can anybody confirm this is and is there anything I can do about this? BIOS updates? It's not a great deal but I'd like to have everything working normally
Thx

Sorry for late reply.
Actually I do use the same driver 327.23 as before. This is for fps cut-off via nvidia inspector which seems to be ignored by newer drivers (fps cut-off at 58fps eliminates vsync input lag in one of my games).

in order for the TURBO mode/button to work you need to run MSI VGA Overclock.exe as an Adminstrator.
That's funny I didn't even had that exe on my computer, so I've downloaded and installed it. The first version I had installed told me I had no GeForce card in my notebook (maybe due to optimus), a newer version worked, however, turbo still isn't working (though running the exe as administrator).

  • Photoshop Crashes after GPU Upgrade

I just recently upgraded my GPU from an nVidia GTX 460 to an AMD Radeon R9 290, and since then I've been experiencing problems with Photoshop.
Just after I upgraded my GPU, I did a clean uninstall of my old drivers, installed my new drivers (which I also updated to the latest version [13.12] just today), and tried using Photoshop.
At first, I was prompted with an error dialog saying that Photoshop could not detect my graphics card, so it has disabled OpenGL support.
I ignored the error, and proceeded to editing an image, but after a few actions Photoshop crashed, prompting me with the 'Photoshop has stopped working' windows dialog.
After restarting Photoshop, I went to Edit -> Preferences -> Performance and checked the GPU Settings box, which was now grayed out.
When hovering over it, Photoshop displayed a notification saying that there is a problem with my Display Driver, and that I should re-install it.
I re-installed my graphics driver, tried several different versions too, re-installed Photoshop, did a clean uninstall (with the help of the Adobe Clean tool) and re-install, but none of these actions helped.
While I was in safe mode (for cleaning up my GPU drivers), I launched Photoshop and realized that even though it told me that there was an error with my drivers, it would work just fine, without crashing after executing a few actions.
I also checked the Help -> System Info dialog for possibly obtaining additional information about the error, but the only relevant thing I can see is 'The GPU Sniffer crashed on XX/XX/XXXX at XX:XX:XX'.
I find this weird, because when I manually run the sniffer, it simply exits after printing 'snifferStart="XXXX-XX-XX_XX:XX:XX"'.
The last thing I tried doing was renaming sniffer.exe to something different.
This resulted in Photoshop re-enabling the GPU Settings box (but obviously saying that there is no GPU detected), and getting rid of the weird crashes.
However, it also resulted in various other glitches, like the main view not updating, the layer previews not properly working, etc.
Finally, I should note that I tried using both Photoshop CS6 (which I initially had installed), and a trial version of Photoshop CC.
My system specs are the following:
    OS: Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
    RAM: 16GB DDR3
    CPU: Intel i5 3570K
    GPU: AMD Radeon R9 290
Secondary GPU (Onboard): Intel HD 4000 Series
Currently Installed Photoshop Version: Photoshop CC 14.1.2 (x64)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I noticed the same problem if I had my two R9 290s in Crossfire mode. If I turn off Crossfire, I get no error.
HOWEVER, as I have just upgraded from 2 GTX580s, and I do a lot of professional digital painting, I noticed using my Wacom Intuos5 (I usew the Cintiq 24HD with GTX580 at work), there was heaps of lag in painting with a standard brush. If I just did a slow stroke, the 'paint' would be lagging behind the brush 5-10mm onscreen. I tried setting the 'Use Graphics Processor' down to Normal and Basic, and it got worse. I turned 'Use Graphics Processor' off completely and there is no real discernible lag, feels very natural as with the Nvidia cards. However, because this is turned off, I loose any GPU 'accelerated' advantages like animated zoom etc.

But as soon as i put my ati hd 5770 or nvidia gtx 460 in it wont post. When i put the new cards in i get wierd beep codes. Sometime they are 4-2-3-3 then sometimes its 1long and 2 short. It just shuts down and turns on and repeats but nothing comes up on the screen. The specs are listed and any help would be GREATLY appretiated.

  • Mac pro losing internal drives after GPU upgrade

I've recently added a PC style 3GB graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660) to my early 2008 8 core mac pro.
Apart from living without the boot logo, this has worked very nicely...
But since then I've had some clicking/chirping noises, especially when running graphics intensive apps (e.g. Video editing, some 3D heavy games), and have subsequently lost one of my four internal drives (my iTunes media library), and another drive regularly 'ejects' during these periods.
Is this liable to just be drives failing, or possibly a psu issue, to do with powering this new card?
Has anyone else had issues running 4 internal drives, with a video card like this?
Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome, thanks!

Beg your pardon, I've just checked again, and the card does just use a 6pin connector. Sorry got confused.
The card lists its minimum requirements as a 450W psu with min 24 amps on the +12V rail (based on i7 3.2 machine)
Does that narrow things down at all? For the record, with only 2 drives mounted at the moment, I still get the odd click from the machine when under some graphics load. Thanks for the replies.

  • Stuck on Bios screen after GPU upgrade

    Hello,
I own a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1024ch (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4132&product=5144367). I've replaced the GTX 550 ti with a Gigabyte GTX 760 (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4935) and when I power on the computer, the screen get stuck on the bios.
Is there a new bios update for my computer or how can I fix it?
The problem don't come from the power supply, I changed it for a Corsaire 850Watts.
(sorry for my english, I speak french)
Thank you in advance for your answers.

    Hi,

After latest upgrades it seems that anything gtk-related (2 or 3) is drawn as garbage, see image on http://i.imgur.com/g57D0KS.jpg

I have the same problem too. the same graphic card model.
I temporarily change the driver to 'vesa' or 'fbdev' to make it render right.
but it may cause the resolution smaller.
    any suggestion ?

First time on forums - hope Im not asking a questions that has been asked several times before.  I purchased a mac mini not even a year ago, and its was plenty fast until I updated to Yosemite.  I also found a link to Etresoft from another questions and ran it.  For the sake of expediency - Ill go ahead and post the results.  Any thoughts? - all help is more appreciated than I can express in words..

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(1217 ' 0.5 0.25 10 1000 15 5120 1000 25000 1 1 0 100 ' 51 25600 4 10 25 5120 102400 1000 25 1000 80 40 500 300 85 25 20480 262144 20     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it. Then go to the next step.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I may not agree with them.

  • [SOLVED] Low quality windows after kernel upgrading

    Hello,
I've got such a weird situation. After I upgraded to 3.12-2, my KDE windows got a low quality style. You can figure out better what I mean with this screenshot.
I did try to reinstall the video driver (I'm using the integrated gpu currently), delete and recreate the KDE cache, and downgrade the kernel. But an even stranger thing is that although I downgraded the kernel, the system kept using the 3.12.2-2; I was able to use neither dhcpcd nor X too.
I strongly think it's an hardware compatibility problem, don't you?

It would have been better to post the exact commands you used and their result (what video driver? what KDE cache? what kernel? )
I strongly think it's an hardware compatibility problem, don't you?
How could that prevent you from downgrading the kernel?
So you say that you downgraded the kernel, to 3.12.1-3 I presume, you rebooted and the machine still uses the 3.12.2-1 kernel!
It's very strange : did the downgrading finished normally? Look into the pacman.log file and the kernel log messages in dmesg; and the xorg server log also, if possible with the new kernel and with the previous one. There is also the .xsession-errors file in $HOME.
I know it's strange! I've never come across a similiar problem. And I'm gonna tell you more: it kept doing that even when the *.3-1 came out. I had to use the brute force. I manually removed the kernel images, the packages in the cache, and upgraded with --force, all that in live mode, and it worked fine.

  • [SOLVED] Huge power consumption after kernel upgrade.

    Dear All,
I have recently bought the new lenovo thinkpad X1 equipped with a Core I5 processors and 4GB of RAM.
I am quite satisfied with this machine except for the fact that the fan is extremely loud (but perhaps a bios upgrade will fix problem).
    Now my problem:
When I first installed Arch (first days of August) I ran powertop and the power consumption was around 10 Watts when idle with wifi card turned off.
Now, after some upgrades, the power consumption raises to 18W in idle and consequently the battery lasts less than 2h.
    Here my current configuration:
    Linux think-x1 3.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Aug 30 08:53:25 CEST 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
and here the powertop output obtained with the cpu frequency governor set to "On demand":
    Cn Avg residency P-states (frequencies)
    C0 (cpu running) ( 5.3%) Turbo Mode 0.1%
    polling 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 2.50 Ghz 0.0%

    0.1% ( 0.3) kworker/u:3
    0.1% ( 0.3) watchdog/0
I have also tried to disable most of the running daemons and unload some modules, but I have never got less than 14/15W when idle, which in my opinion is definitely too much!
As far as I'm concerned, the kworker process is responsible most of the wakeups.
    Any ideas?

enabling it by default in 3.0 caused regressions for some people, so it was
disabled. Hopefully Intel figures it out, and we can switch it back on by
default in 3.1 / 2.6.41 (until then, you'll have to set it by hand).

  • Connectivity speed plummet after Mavericks upgrade

I ran a speed test from my iMac (2.66 GHz Intel core 2 Duo) after Mavericks upgrade and I'm only getting 0.06 Mbps download over 5g WiFi with a 20 Mbit Time Warner Turbo Cable account.
The App Store app seems not to respond either when attempting to download updates.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

I have experienced the same issues since the official release of Mavricks. I have even had my cable provider out to swap my modem. In all of my testing... the issue is clearly Mavricks. I have incredable speeds on all devices exept my mac no that Mavricks was installed.
We are talking a 500-700% difference in speeds. This was not always the case and has only been an issue on the 1 machine since the upgrdade.
When I find that my speeds are crippled, a restart of the wifi adapter will usually fix the issue for the time being. It WILL return with in a few hrs to 24 hrs.... unacceptable in my book.
I have since upgraded another mac on my network and we will see if it suffers the same fate.

  • Performance degrades in Probook 4540s after memory upgrade

Hello. I've installed recently in my Probook4540 two Kingston memory modules  (2x8gb ddr3 1600 CL10 240 pin). Ever since I did this, Windows 8 takes much longer to boot and performance has significantly dropped. But, if I only place one of the two modules, or the original 4GB module, Windows runs at normal speed.
I think it's a BIOS problem, as I've just seen this very same error in other brand's laptops, for example here
    http://superuser.com/questions/379970/laptop-is-incredibly-slow-after-ram-upgrade
I've got the latest available BIOS version installed (F31 26-SEP-2012).
    Thank you.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I actually started a case under their Business division. I first received the generic/automated response from HP saying that the laptop can only take 8GB of RAM max. They actually sent me a link to an official HP 4540s specs and it actually shows 8GB max. BUT, I never saw that PDF but used the one linked on their shopping site under business section and it shows maximum of 16GB of RAM. I explained all of this to a supervisor and they decided to escalate the issue to Level 2. I'm still waiting for a final decision. I'm worried they are going to try to replace the motherboard. I truly believe this is a BIOS update issue. Like I said the 4540s i3 we have can take the 16GB of RAM with no performance decrease. Only the i7 one is slowing down to a crawl. No error messages anywhere.

  • After I upgraded to Yosemite iphoto can't recognize my backup CDs which were created in iLife09. Ihave the original applications install disk and my old hard drive(I upgraded  to SSD). How do I get a n iphoto back to read by old CDs?

After I upgraded to Yosemite,iPhoto can't recognize my backup CDs created in iLife 09. The applications install disk won't install iphoto because iphoto 9.5 is already installed..I updated to a SSD and have the original Hard Drive with an updated iphoto which recognized the older CDs(thanks to iphoto expander). I thought that the iphoto that transferred with the new hard drive was the same as what was on the old one. I guess it wasn't. I really need to access my backups.   HELP

Later version of iPhoto write to the library on opening, and so cannot open libraries on optical media, as that cannot be written to. Further, optical media is going e way of the floppy disk. Therefore, you need to use a different form of archiving and back up going forward.
To allow iPhoto to open these libraries you need to copy them to your Mac or an attached external disk.
To merge them into an existing Library will require that you use either Aperture (if you have it) or iPhoto Library Manager.
