Guitar Rig 3 - wah pedal not recording...

Hi there
How do I get Guitar Rig 3 to work so that when I use the Kontrol for wah, it picks it up? At present Logic is just recording the raw sound.
Thanks!
Steve

Doesn't the GR manual describe how to do all this?
From memory, the issue is that you are recording onto an audio track with GR on it, and twiddling the pedal sends MIDI info, which obviously can't be recorded onto an audio track (because it's MIDI). And the effects of the pedal won't be printed into the audio, because you ar printing the guitar sound before it's processed with GR, so it's just the dry sound.
If you want to print GR, you can use it on an input channel, rather than on the destination recording track. This uses GR pre-tape, and thus the audio from GR is recorded, not the dry guitar signal (you could always record that as well, to give you options).
Lastly, you could probably also record-enable a MIDI track and record the MIDI data the pedal sends during the performance, and play it back to GR to replicate your pedal moves...
But I'm sure the manual talks about all this...

  • Guitar Rig 2-how to record wah or pitch pedal control?

I've been trying to figure this out, how do you record the controller info from the Rig Kontrol Pedal ? please help, i'm stumped , and the guy at N.I. said he'd have to call me back tomorrow. not encouraging.
I love this plugin BTW, it's really amazing.

you should be able to by selecting the track in the arrange with GR2 on it. Then, change the automation setting from "off" to "latch". Now, press play and move your foot controller pedal. After this, look at the automation for the track to view the controller changes. BTW - make sure that rig control is enabled on the GR2 plugin instance you are using.
PS - have you been experiencing clicks and pops in GR2 while monitoring playback? GR1 never had this problem, and I'm about to throw GR2 out the window until NI releases an update to fix this. (I don't use rig control BTW, just the software).

  • Guitar Rig & Studio Devil not showing up in GB '09

I have been using Guitar Rig and Studio Devil in GB for a couple of years now. Since upgrading to GB '09 these do not show up in GB at all. I can use Guitar Rig as a stand-alone app without a problem. I just can't access the AU plugin from within GB. Anyone else having this problem?

Never mind. I found the answer here. The interface has changed quite a bit so it took some diggin'.

  • Guitar Rig plays in stereo, but will only record in mono.

Hi, I hope this is something simple. Here is my dilemma:
I open Guitar Rig and am using a preset where there are multiple amps and effects panned to the left and right channels. I hear it in stereo fine when playing and even when recording, I can physically see it recording in stereo. However when I hit stop, all the data on the bottom channel disappears, and I only get one channel. I have the track monitor ON and set to Stereo 1/2 (Presonus Firebox (1848)).
I'm obviously doing something wrong here. Can anyone put their finger on what it is I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!
    Ray

"What usually would happen is that your mono guitar would be recorded to a mono track and you would use a stereo effect. Even though you're imputing a mono signal it is being sent to a stereo out."
Thats kind of what's happening here. Guitar Rig 4 is what is creating the stereo affect of one amp in the left and a different amp in the right. I can hear them fine when I'm playing, but when I hit record, I see it recording in stereo (an upper and lower group of sound waves) but when i hit Stop, the bottom group disappears, and Im left with only one amp sound and no stereo. I guess the problem might be with Guitar Rig 4 and not GB.

  • How to use the wah pedal in L9?

    Hi there,
In the new pedal board in L9 there is a couple of wah pedals. Does any one know how to use them 'real time'? May be with an expression pedal, so I won't have to automate the whole thing?
Basicly I wan't to be able to play my guitar with wah when I record.
    Any suggestions?

  • How do I change Guitar rig patches when it is a plug in in main stage

I'm using Guitar Rig (v.3.2.1) inside Mainstage (v.1.0.2). I'm trying to use a midi foot controller (Yamaha MFC10) to change the patches. Pressing the Yamaha foot pedal sends program change information into main stage, but it changes the patches at the top level of main stage. Also, main stage responds to program change on all midi channels and I don't see a way to limit it to just one. What I'm hoping to do is have the MainStage patches respond to one midi channel, and the Guitar rig patches respond to another. Can this be done??

    Hey Burr,
Okay, I was able to get Mainstage 1 and Guitar Rig 3 talking okay. I'll outline here how I got the two to talk but I probably need a bit more info to address your exact need(s). I've also re-read your posts and I'll take a stab at what I think you might need to do to get set up a little better. The caveat here is that I'm not 100% clear on what you want to do, so apologies if I make assumptions that are a little off
Since it sounds like you want to do MIDI patches and Guitar Rig patches and you're trying to separate the two, then let's look at that, we can always look at combined patches later.
So what it kinda sounds like, is that you're thinking about Guitar Rig at the concert level, the best thing is for you to think about Guitar Rig at the patch level. What that allows you to do is to create two different sets within the concert, one for your MIDI patches, and the other for Guitar Rig patches.
That way, you can navigate to whatever you want (MIDI patch or Guitar Rig patch) and not worry about the MIDI channel separation issue. When you were saying the Yamaha MFC10 was sending program changes for patches at the top level, instead, what you want to think about is using CC's (not PC's) for set and patch navigation and PC's only for direct access to a specific patch.
So, first program your MFC10 to send 4 different CC's for Mainstage navigation (Set Up, Set Down, Patch Up, Patch Down) e.g. you could use switches 7,8,9,0. Then go into Mainstage at the layout level and map the Set Up, Down and Patch Up, Down icon/switches using the MIDI Learn function. Go into Edit mode and test the navigation.
Next, create two different sets MIDI and Guitar Rig.
Then create your MIDI patches in the MIDI set as you normally would.
Create your Guitar Rig patches within the Guitar Rig set. Create separate Guitar Rig patches using the MFX stereo version of the AU plug in for GR. When the Guitar Rig plug-in window opens, select/edit the patch within Guitar Rig that you want to use. That specific Guitar Rig patch will now be saved in your Mainstage patch. Set up a separate Mainstage patch using a Guitar Rig patch for each of your different patches/songs.
Now you can go into perform/full screen mode to navigate to each set or patch using switches 7,8,9,0 (if that's what you used) of your MFC10 and that will call up you patch.
Additionally, if you want to call up a specific patch from MFC10, then program one of your MFC10 switches to send a specific Program Change. Then click on the patch in Mainstage, the Patch Inspector window will open up - now assign that same Program Change number there. Your MFC10 will now call up that specific patch when you press on the switch.
Now, the next thing is...if you then want to modify or express something WITHIN a Guitar Rig patch. Then you first have to program your MFC10 to set up/send let's say...5 different CC's so let's use 1-5 of your MFC10. We might want to turn on/off different effects for example, or boost a gain, or whatever. In this example, we'll choose turning an effect on/off.
So program your MFC10, then go into layout mode in Mainstage and assign the stompbox on/off switch by clicking on it, using MIDI Learn, and then pressing your footswitch to learn the CC.
Go into Edit mode, select your Mainstage Guitar Rig patch, then click the stomp button(s) you just programmed. The parameter mapping section then opens up at the bottom. Choose your Mainstage patch name (appears right under "Parameter Mapping".
Then the next column (to the right) populates, choose "Guitar Rig 3 MFX", the next column then populates with all the Guitar Rig 3 parameters, select whichever GR3 item you want to control and do the parameter mapping. In my test I chose Skreemer On/Off because I mapped my FCB1010 and Mainstage Stompbox to switch that effect.
Anyway, if everything was done ok then when you press switch 1 on your MFC10 it will turn the effect in Guitar Rig 3 on and off through Mainstage.
So now knowing all that, you should be able to map Mainstage and GR to do what you want by just using the same principles.
Sorry for the long explanation but it's the only way to give you the details...I hope I got what you wanted to do after all that...phew
Give it a go and let me know if you have any questions.

  • MainStage patches not loading Guitar Rig 4 patches

I'm trying to use Guitar Rig 4 as a channel strip plugin for live EG performance. Unfortunately Mainstage seems unable to properly recall assigned Guitar Rig patches and/or recall screen mapping for those patches. It seems like it only loads the first GR4 patch. If I open up the plugin I see the correct GR4 plugin name but when I double click it seems to then load.
I've mapped screen controls to specific editable functions within Guitar Rig 4's patch. Unfortunately after reboot Mainstage patches do not properly load Guitar Rig patches and screen control mapping breaks.
For instance within a specific Mainstage patch, I have a Guitar Rig 4 patch that has a stereo delay. I screen map to the stereo delay's controllable functions (mix, feedback, etc). I test it out and everything works properly. I save. I restart and then the screen controls lose their mappings.
So what's up? Is it a user error or a limitation between the two softwares?
    Andy

    Hi again,
OK so to map a MS toggle switch to activate an event in a Plug-in like Guitar Rig 4?
    - You have Pedalboard as an insert in the channel strip?
    - You have Guitar Rig as an insert in the channel strip?
    - if so
    - selecect the unassigned button in Manstage edit mode
    -  MS will open the screen control inspector panel below the edit view of your MS edit window
    - In the third tab 'unassined' of the inspector you sohould see columns make sure you're looking at the left most col
    - You will find the name of the channel strip (guitar-1) or something like that - select it
    - The next col will fill with info on the channel strip including the inserts - select Guitar Rig 4- The next col will fill with all the attributes of the Guitar Rig patch you've selected as an insert
    - The list will contain all the controllable attrubutes of the componants that mack up the guitar rig patch.
    - Select the WAH/ON/OFF or what have you.
    - Now the switch in MS will control the ON/OFF state of the WAH efect in that Guitar Rig patch.
The same process works for rotary knobs so you can have MS contol the ON/OFF function and allow you to adjust say the Gain and Tone of your choosen Guitar Rig effect. Obviously you can use for Amps/effects/Cabs/and even Tapdeck etc.
Once you have a channel strip set up and your happy with the layout of MS you can save the channel strip and use it in Logic and vise versa - so I have started a library when my guitar and bass patches are channel strips.
This is because I mix up componants of the various Plig-ins I have say - Pedelboard => Ampdesigner => Guitar Rig 4 => Amplitube 3 => and Redwirez as a single 'patch'. So playing live I use the appropriate 'patch' strip in MS and when recording the I use same 'patch' strip in Logic.
    Have fun!

  • GarageBand stops recording immediately when using Guitar Rig Session

When I try to record a guitar into GarageBand using my Guitar Rig Session the recording starts, then immediately stops. This happens on a new track, or on an existing track. Everything was fine before I updated GarageBand to the latest version (6.0.4) via the App Store. I also updated to OSX 10.6.8 too. I've tried recording a track in Reaper and it works fine so I doubt it's a Guitar Rig/OSX 10.6.8 issue so I'm suspecting that it's the latest GarageBand version that's to blame. This discussion was the closest thing I could find to raise a support ticket about this. I'll have to switch to Reaper for now but if it's not fixed soon, I may not come back to GarageBand!

Native Instruments say they'll have a fix to make their software work in Lion in September. From what I've heard it only affects them running in 64 bit mode so try Guitar Rig in 32 bit mode if you can. I've switched to Reaper like I said and I'm finding the transition quite easy. Give their demo a try...

You recently updated iTunes to v.11.4? This message has popped up on many a Mac screen when this version was first made available, because this kext was obviously faulty.
You should try to download iTunes 11.4 again from Apple's website: the new version bears the same name, but this kernel extension has been updated, and the issues it was causing are now a thing of the past.
    Should solve your problem, too...

  • Can midi keyboard sustain pedal control guitar stomp box wah pedal

Does anyone know if a midi keyboard sustain pedal can be used to control a guitar stomp box variable.  Specifically the controller pedal for the "wah" pedals. Many thanks!

Sustain cannot control Wah, because a sustain pedal only sends out value 0 (up/off) or value 127 (down/on). You need an expression/volume pedal, that sends out continuous messages from 1 to 127, which is what you'ld need for operating Wah.

  • Guitar Rig and Third Party Controllers

    For Guitar Rig users
I bought the Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller to replace the limited Rig Kontrol. I have programmed it and it works great with Guitar Rig
I also run Guitar Rig as a plug-in in Garage Band and I can record real instrument tracks with Guitar Rig effects. However under this scenario the Guitar Rig software doesn't respond to the FCB's commands which doesn't allow me to use the expression medal or change any effects during the recording. The GarageBand MIDI indicator does flash when I step on the controller however the sound isn't getting over to Guitar Rig.
I'm very frustrated it over this. Can someone help?
    Thanks
    JG

I think your interpretation is correct. When you get GR you'll find that it has a Learn function so that you can pass to it whatever codes you want. I was actually able to setup several effects on/off parameters, switch GR presets within a bank, the two expression pedals.
When I run GR in GarageBand the GR plug in doesn't respond to any of the commands from the FCB.
Here is what NI's suppport person sent to me:
"the problem occurs due to a Garage Band limitaion which makes the send midi function nearly unusable.
If you plug in Guitar Rig FX on an audio track you cannot send midi to it. And If you use it as an audio instrument you could send midi to GR, but because Garage Band does not support a sidechain function of audio instruments, you cannot record audio. To record audio you need to use the FX version of GR (same as in Logic), but you cannot send midi to an FX in Garage Band.
This is defenitely a big limitation of this host sequencer. "

  • Guitar Rig 3 and Duet

I am trying to get Duet and Guitar Rig 3 v3.2.0 and Logic Pro 8.0.2 to work together. After selecting Guitar Rig3 in the Insert slot of the channel strip and enabling record, I am able to hear the guitar through the monitors but there is no GR3 sound effect. The GR3 Global Header does not display any in or out activity. But upon play back, I hear the GR3 effect on the guitar track.
I have been adjusting so many settings, I am afraid I might have set something along the way incorrectly - Perhaps in Maestro or in Logic Preferences? Also should Input Monitoring be selected? To make things simple, I unplugged the USB connection to the GR3 foot pedal. That will be a different project for another day. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Mainstage/Guitar rig/ midi

    Hey all,
So im quite enjoying the pedal board and set up to a midi foot controller.  I dragged 4 pedals and routed them to 4 pedals in pedal board.
I do have guitar rig and was wondering if anyone could help me use some of the guitar rig patches in the mix with pedal board so I can use my 4 pedal board stomp boxes and say 2 from guitar rig.  So I would have 6 in total.  4 from mainstage pedal board and 2 from mainstage.
