GX620 Native Resolution problem

I sent my GX620 off to MSI last week to get a problem fixed with it (still under warranty).
It came back within 5 business days, so that was great, and the fixed what was wrong with the display - however i've just noticed something else.
The laptop isn't letting me set the res any higher than 1280*800. The native res of a GX620 should be 1680*1050, and thats what i used to run it at before the fault occured.
Is this a display driver thing? I have tried to update with both the latest nvidia drivers from their site, and the latest MSI display drivers from the MSI site - and neither made a difference. Also i notice my display is now listed as a 'Generic PnP Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT". Does that mean the display itself should have some of its own drivers that just haven't loaded right?
The warranty service form i got back with the laptop states they swapped the LCD panel when they fixed the fault i encountered. Have they put in the wrong kind of physical display? Something that is physically limited to 1280*800, and not put in the wsxga++ screen they should have?

You did send it to MSI directly and yourself? (not via a dealer)
If so, show them the original box (the specs are printed on it).
Else give me your original serial-number (printed on the BOX), with that number I can check with my MSI contacts.
What specs your laptop should have, also (if we are lucky) what MSI did with it.
Best call MSI if you RMA'ed with them, as it looks like they swapped the wrong panel in it.

  • Native resolution problem on Boot Camp running Windows 8.1 on Macbook PRO 15 (2011)

    Couple days ago I purchased a DELL U2414h display, and I came across some problems while trying to use it with Windows 8.1 on Boot Camp.
    Everything works like a charm on MAC OS X and I get 1680x1050 resolution on my 2011 15 inch Macbook PRO, and 1920x1080 on the external DELL display.
    The problem starts when I run Windows 8.1... I get my native resolution on the Macbook, but the maximum usable resolution on the external display is 1776x1000. There's an option to choose 1920x1080, but when I do that, the screen looks blurry. Is there any way to overcome this problem?
    I'm using HDMI Adapter, and I installed all the drivers which were downloaded while installing the Boot Camp

    No I haven't, but could it be the case? The same display with the same adapter works fine while running the MAC OS X.
    But yeah, the adapter converts the mini display port to HDMI (as far as I know)

  • Native Resolution problem (GX640)

    I have just bought a brand new MSI GX640. Unfortunately I can't make the native resolution go up to 1650x1050 like the specs say (I only go up to 1200x800). I have tried reinstalling the drivers, even after using driver sweeper, but nothing happened. I noticed that the specs say it goes up to 1650x1050 in non glare mode and 1200x800 with glare, but I'd rather have the high resolution.
    Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

    I did a little research and found out that the native res of WXGAs are 1280x800. What pisses me off is that this wasn't what was sold to me, even if the processor was a little better than expected (i5 450 vs i5 430). Oh well, I'll see what I can do... Thank you very much for your help though

  • Big Problem with Directx 11 and Games scaling when lower than native resolution

    Hi Guys,
    MY system is Windows 7 Home Premium (Korean version), and I have dual GPUs, Nvidia Geforce GT 630m for gaming, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 for all other display matters.  My native resolution is 1920 x 1080.
    This problem wasn't there couple of years back, but from 2~3 years ago, when I play recent games that require/favour directx 11 (such as Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins), it seems when I use lower than native resolution (such as 1280
    x 720) and select fullscreen, giant ugly black borders always appear around the game, and the game does not fill the whole screen.  
    I thought this was something which could be fixed in my GPU's control panel, but there was no scale fullscreen option under Nvidia's control panel.  So I went into Intel HD Graphics control panel, but there was no Scale fullscreen option there either (under
    native resolution.  With lower resolution there was).
    Anyway, after months and months of searching, I finally found an Intel forum which was discussing the same situation:

    While going through the forum, I found out from other users that problem is not with GPU's drivers, but with Directx 11.  
    To test this theory, I put Batman: Arkham Origins in Force Directx 9 mode, and changed the game resolution to 1280x720.  And the game showed no black borders, it scaled up perfectly to fullscreen under Directx 9 (so no problem whatsoever under directx
    9).  I changed the setting to Directx 11, and the ugly black borders appeared again.
    Could someone please help with this?  I know I can change my screen's resolution every time I play the game, but it's a real nuisance to do that.  And more games are utilising Directx 11 or higher, and I don't think there are many games where I can
    force Directx 9 mode like I did for Arkham Origins.
    Or if someone connected could contact the people working on Directx 11 and ask about this issue (and get them to contact me through my email below), that would be much appreciated.

    While yes, at first people on the Intel forum thought it was the display driver problem (hence the question was originally posted on the Intel forum).  But if you look closely through the pages especially Pages 2 onwards, there are some very astute
    comments by some posters:
    Update to black borders problem: The problem is DirectX11. Fx. Company of Heroes has a setting "Shader Quality" that when set to ULTRA it will run directX11 and when set below ULTRA it will run directX9. So the intel graphics driver is not
    responsible! It is Microsofts DirectX11 that does it - maybe only to computers with both Intel HD and a second graphics card for video games
    Different workarounds to the black border problem:
    Change resolution before running fullscreen
    Use directX9 instead of directX11
    Fx. in CoH2 there is a setting fx. 50% of resolution, so even in native resolution the graphics is only half and thus faster
    Try window mode without borders
    and here's also another:
    I can confirm that this problem still seems to exist, and that it definitely seems to be related to DirectX 11.
    In a variety of games, turning DirectX11 off (either in-game or using ini files in some games that don't present you with the choice) fixes the issue. But this is obviously not ideal.
    I have a laptop with a native resolution of 1920x1080, but tend to run games at 1280x720 because it provides much better performance on my HD 4400 graphics chip. This bug and the memory leak issue on Windows 8.1 are extremely annoying.
    Like the first poster, my PC has intel HD GPU, and a second graphics card for games (Nvidia).
    And all the members have mentioned that they updated the intel graphics driver, but it does not fix it - so it doesn't seem like a graphics driver problem (and more to do with Directx 11).
    And they are right.  With Batman Arkham Origins, if I set the resolution to 1366 x 768 and apply fullscreen, under Directx 11, ugly black borders appears.  Luckily Arkham Origins has "Force Directx 9 mode" which I use, but a lot of games
    don't have this mode (such as ACIV Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs etc) - you either play in ugly black borders, or can't play the game at all.
    And all my Graphics Drivers are currently up-to-date, and issue still exists, so I don't think it's the driver problem.
    I have already tried that registry method you just mentioned.  It didn't work.
    As for Directx 12, well I just hope it works better than Directx 11 (with its ugly black borders in games) does, and works well like Directx9 (with no problem in scaling).

  • Macbook Pro 13 inch & External Display - resolution problem

    I'm trying to connect my macbook pro 13inch to an NEC 26' Multisync display - which has a native resolution of 1900 x 1200 - and when connected to a PC this is what I get. When I connect the mac though the top resolution is 1900 x 1080 - so the display is distorted.
    I've tried finding diplay drivers for the monitor and graphics card without success. Apparently the GEForce 9400 graphics in the macbook can output up to 2500 x 1600.
    I'm wondering if it's the connection method - I'm using the mini display to VGA adapter that I got with the macbook. Do I need to use the alternative adapter - the mini display port to DVI adapter? Seems this is needed for connection to 'advanced' displays. Will this make any difference or is it that the macbook 13 inch can't output to a 26in display?
    Any advice or assistance will be greatly appreciated

    I would get the DVI regardless.
    Your taking a digital signal from the macbook, converting to to anolage VGA, and the the monitor is converting it back to digital again to display on the screen.
    DVI will make it direct digital to digital.
    Plus, because DVI is digital, is passes resolution information. So you should get your native resolution no problem.

  • LCD native resolution not available in system preferences

    I need to set my resolution to 1680 x 1050 and that resolution is not vailable. I have a original G4 Mac Mini with Tiger. The monitor has dual inputs for both VGA and DVI, sometimes it will work with the VGA input but not consistantly.
    I need to use the DVI input now to leave the VGA input free for my KVM.
    I have tried Zapping my PRAM multiple times, starting the Mini with the monitor unplugged, swapping between the DVI and VGA inputs on the LCD monitor, and swapping between my old CT monitor and the new LCD. None of this works.
    The LCD always detects as "LCD Display".
    I have been unable to find information on where the monitor resolutions are stored, one thing which I would have liked to try would be manually editing the file to the correct resolution.
    What else can I try?

    Hi Brian, sorry about your issue- it's frustrating isn't it? The file you need to edit is in system > library > frameworks > IOKit.frameworks > Versions > A > Resources, and it's called IOGraphicsProperties.plist. If you activate the root user temporarily using the NetInfo Manager, you can edit the file with textedit, save it to the desktop, then drag it into the Resources folder to replace. When you look in the file, you'll see the following:

    I had the same problem as you. I bought an Acer 22" widescreen, with a native resolution of 1680 x 1050, which wasn't "available" in the displays control panel. After some swearing and lamenting the olden days in OS9 when you could just willy nilly see all the resolutions, i added my resolution the this file and it showed up in the control panel. You'll have to monkey with it to see how it works, but basically you're going to add another 'integer' line, like so:

    If this is too hairy for you, or just too much trouble, i highly recommend SwitchRes. It works perfectly for this problem, and you can input the specifications for your monitor exactly and it will install the resolution so that it's available to the system. Its cheap too.

  • External Display native resolution suddenly not available

    I'm using a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 external monitor with my MBP, connected via a DVI-to VGA adapter. I've used this computer/monitor setup for quite some time with no problem. Yesterday, I hooked my computer up to my 46" Samsung HDTV with no problem.
    When I hooked my computer back up to the Westinghouse, the native resolution (1680x1050) was no longer available. Instead, the monitor hooks up at 1600x1000. Strangely, though, the EDID information appears to suggest that 1680x1050 should be available. Here's the EDID:

    Well, you can move the file from the desktop back to its original location to at least get back to what you had before.
    The file structure under Snow Leopard has changed and it's hard to keep up with this stuff. There is also now a com.apple.WindowServer.plist file in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons that you could try moving to the desktop and restarting. I dunno. Same rule applies.....if it doesn't help, move the file from the desktop back to its original location.

  • Native resolution does not fill entire external display

    I've got one of the original MacBook Pros with the Mobility Radeon X1600 hooked up to a Samsung P2350G display (it's a 23" LCD panel.) The native resolution on the display is 1920x1080.
    The display has inputs for both VGA and DVI. The DVI port however is used by a desktop PC already, so I use a DVI to VGA adapter on the MacBook Pro, and use the laptop panel as a secondary display.
    The problem is that when I set the external display to its native resolution, I get vertical letterboxing and some flickering along the edges of the image. It does not horizontally fill the whole display as it should. I have tried the same adapter on the PC and it worked fine (though with rather spotty image quality.)
    Resolutions that are lower than 1920x1080 work fine and fill the whole display properly. I'm not exactly sure what the issue is. The laptop is only semipermanently attached to the large display so I can live with a reduced image quality there, but the flickering, slightly distorted image is just not acceptable right now.

    Sounds like it might be a sync issue. Have you tried powering the monitor off and then back on with the MBP connected to it? How about just temporarily disconnecting the DVI cable from the desktop PC and using that to plug into the MBP.

  • [Solved] Native resolution 1366x768 with Vesa drivers (cedar trail)

    Hey, I've been trying to get a native widescreen resolution on this machine and not had any luck.
    This is an intel atom D2550 on an NM10, so it loads the gma500_gfx driver first but that doesn't work. I just get a black screen on boot.
    After trying everything I could find to solve that issue I just blacklisted the module so that it boots to console at least.
    Now I'm trying to use the vesa drivers to get a widescreen resolution, as currently my only options are the standard
    640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 settings. When I start X the vesa drivers detects the monitor properly and shows it's native resolution modeline.
    As it continues however, it claims it can't find the modeline and sticks me with the defaults.
    This is a fully updated system, fresh install.

    Any ideas? I just want to get a widescreen resolution. I've seen some people have success using the 915resolution-static package but my chipset doesn't seem to be supported and I can't find a patch that adds it.

    Really? You'd think that kind of information would be easier to find. I had searched for vesa and widescreen before and all I could find was many "maybes".
    I guess I will have to go back to trying to get the gma500_gfx driver to work.

  • Second monitor decided to stop allowing its native resolution.

    My external monitor (17" TruTech LCD screen) has a native resolution is 1440x900. Since the first time I plugged it in (using the DVI to VGA adapter and an extension cord), my Mac has recognized the monitor's native resolution automatically and worked perfectly, for the most part.
    Earlier today, after my computer crashed and I had to force shut-down, the Mac can no longer find the monitor's native resolution, and doesn't have it listed in the Display Preferences.
    I have done all of the following, to no avail:
    -Several hard power cycles of both my Mac and the monitor, with different combinations of the monitor being plugged in and unplugged before/after/during booting.
    -Reset PRAM/NVRAM
    -Repaired Disk Permissions
    -Unplug/re-plug the monitor to the computer (hitting "Detect Displays" while unplugged and again once plugged in)
    -Toggle mirroring on/off
    I installed SwitchResX, and after some tinkering with it was able to get the proper resolution on my external monitor. The problem is that it's only a 10 day trial, and I don't want to pay for software to fix a problem that I shouldn't be having. I'd also rather not have more software running in the background than I need.
    Is this an OS X problem, a Mac hardware problem, a problem with the monitor, or bad cables? If it's either of the latter two, I'm willing to purchase new cables or a new monitor. If it's an OS X problem, what can I do to fix it?
    Any help is very much appreciated.

    You may be able to trash the windowserver.plist files, but I'm not so sure if that works under Snow Leopard the same way it used to under Tiger and Leopard.
    When you build a custom timing using SRX, it just becomes part of a standard plist file. In other words, it writes to standard OS X framework files. So it's not like it's running in the background. You can delete SRX from your computer and that timing you made will still be there.

  • Native resolution of external monitor not appearing in System Prefs - Displays

    I have an Acer G206HL monitor, which has a 1600x900 native resolution. It's connected to a 13" MacBook Pro (the current non-retina model) via a Thunderbolt-to-VGA cable. The MBP is running Mountain Lion 10.8.3.
    When I go to System Preferences -> Displays -> Resolution: Scaled, 1600x900 doesn't appear in the list, and none of the listed resolutions are satisfactory.
    Anyone know of a way to add custom resolutions to Mountain Lion's Display preferences?

    I'm having the same issue with a a 2012 MBA running Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25). I wish I could find a solution to this problem.

  • IMac G5 iSight - Resolution problems when using s-video output.

    Good afternoon all.
    I have an iMac G5 and the only video output it has is a mini VGA socket. I have used this with a mini VGA to S-Video converter cable from Apple and am getting some odd results.
    The Mac is running Leopard 1.5.7 and I'm outputting to a fairly old Panasonic CRT TV.
    The problem I find is that when I plug in my mini VGA adaptor to the Mac it reduces the resolution on the Mac screen down to 1024x768 (stretched). The TV outputted TV image looks great, but I can't seem to keep my native resolution of 1440x900 on the Mac display.
    If I do go and change the resolution in "displays" in the sys' prefs' then it just seems to keep the 1024x768 resolution on the Mac but this time without stretching it.
    Does anyone know how I can keep my Mac at its native resolution of 1440x900 while still outputting to s-video to the TV?
    Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    I have the same config as you: I have been using it for years to view on my tv dvds or videos from the web.
    To my knowledge there is no way to acheive what you wish: when you plug the adaptor in the mac adjust to your output source and its main display (the g5 display) will reflect that with the result that it becomes very difficult to use.
    Maybe there is a way to try changing the resolution in a middlle"configuration" which would give an acceptable viewing on the tv as well as on the g5.
    Personally I keep plugging and unplugging the adaptor as needed.

  • Equium A100-147 - Native resolution on external LCD doesn't work

    Hi,
    My Equium A100-147 has 1 VGA and 1 S-Video output, so I'm using the VGA output on a external LCD monitor with native resolution of 1680x1050@60hz, but the integrated Intel 945 graphics card doesnt give me the right resolution to choose for this monitor, the most close is 1600x1200 and some another weird widescreen resolutions that make my monitor scaling show a ugly image.
    So I tested another external monitor with native resolution of 1920x1200, and the closest resolution the Intel drivers gave me was 1920x1080, even installing both monitors drivers, removing and reinstalling the driver and even formatting the machine and reinstalling everything from zero didn't give any different results.
    I have another laptop MSI Wind with the same graphics card built in and the very same driver version, and the laptop detects both monitor and the right resolutions for them, so it's not a monitor driver problem.
    Seems for me that is a problem with the S-Video output that makes this mess, but there is no way to disable it in the BIOS or any another place in device manager I have seem yet.
    Does anyone can give me some advice for what can I do?

    actually the resolutions available to external monitors here on the intel control panel are
    800x600
    1024x768
    1280x1024
    1400x1050
    1600x1200
    1856x1392
    1920x1080
    1920x1440
    2048x1536
    so it seems possible to use another widescreen resolution at least to match aspect ratio without matching the right resolution.
    I've just hooked my 1080p hdtv via VGA and I'm able to use 1920x1080 16:9 aspect ratio
    seeing this another resolutions that aren't on the manual, maybe its possible to make custom resolutions as well.
    I've tried make a custom driver using the intel ones and power strip but without success because I don't know exactly the range of frequencies to setup the driver .inf

    But the LG's native resolution is 1920x1200, not 1080. My MacBook Pro drove it happily at that resolution, but the GT120 seems to see it as a 1080p device only. How do I go about getting the Mac Pro to recognise it properly?

    Just bought two great monitors from Fujitsu/Siemens. 26 Inch Each.
    Also I got the MacPro with a.m- graphic card. This is a horror show. And it does not work.
    I have them hooked up with DVI. Each work fine on their own with their max resolution which is full HD - 1920 * 1200.
    So when I hook both up the main will show the gray apple boot screen. As soon as Login Window appears, both screens will go black and I have to power cycle the mac as I cant see a thing. If I boot into safe mode, one monitor will come up. If I set that to - 1280*720 and do a reboot - this time into normal boot. The 1280 * 720 screen will appear but the other will remain black. If I open display prefs. and set the black screen to 1280*720 I can use em both. Goes without saying that such a setting aint no fun and totally useless on a 26Inch screen.
    Soon as I try and set any of the screens to native max size - the go black on reboot.
    I dont know what to do. At all.
    Hooking those displays up on my old harpertown 8 core - is working fine.
    The specs of the graphic card states that I should be able to run that setup.
    I am pretty disappointed in this. Any help would be appreciated.

    I have w500 laptop with firegl v5700 card on it.
    I am really getting nervous on this issue right here. Have been looking for a solution for quite a while, but none to be found, even though there are people who have the same problem.
    What I am trying to do is to use lower than native resolutions: 1680x1050 and 1440x900.
    When I am using those resolutions I am getting black borders, meaning picture won't scale/fit the screen. All resolutions under 1280x800 do scale, which is weird. There has to be a solution to this matter. I wouldn't buy this laptop If I would know that there is such an issue. Please help!
    When I am trying to change it in the CCC, on 1920x1200 it won't let me change anything at all (just grayed out). If im on mentioned resolutions then I am able to change it, but nothing actually happens, it just blinks and that's it. Tried everything already, even setting modded drivers.
    Please give me some ideas at least on fixing this issue.

    Since you're not using Switchable anyway, find the latest Mobility Catalyst (might be the last of the 12.x, 13 dropped a lot of legacy support) that supports the V5700 and install that driver. You might have to do it manually via Have Disk, but it should work.
